Dell :: 1530 With 7200 Rpm Hard Drive?
Jan 22, 2009Is it possible to get the 1530 with the 320GB 7200rpm hard drive as opposed to the 5400? Months ago on the dell site they had the choice between the two. And now...not. ???

View 10 RepliesHow hard is a HD swap on a Macbook PRO? Part of my whole conversion of the MBPRO to a "desktop" includes a display, keyboard, mouse...and I'd like a 7200 RPM drive....anyone done this? What's involved? What did you do with the old drive? I'm not interested in transferring data...I don't have barely anything saved on it which makes it easy.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI am about to order an XPS 1530 with the 320 GB 5.400 rpm harddrive, but I have heard that these make some really annoying noises from time to time, so my question is - is that normal or are these harddrives sort of defective? And I have only heard of that issue regarding the said 320 GB model. What if I buy a 400 GB hard drive? Do these make these noises as well? I am really concerned right now because I have heard quite a few things about the XPS 1530 that just didn't sound right... like the DVD drive noises, the hard drive noises, the display lottery...
here is another question but I don't want to start another thread:
I'll be using Photoshop a lot, so will I experience a big difference between the T8300 and the T9300 processor? I know this has been asked before but all I found out was that there will be virtually no difference in gaming.
What is the biggest capacity hard drive that I can put into my Dell XPS 1530 notebook?
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy xps 1530 is about a year old. The hard drive has failed 3 times now. The first two times I got a bit of advance warning with blue screens and error messages. This time no warning.
Rebot and error message that hard drive can not be found. I tried reseating the drive a few times and nothing. I have the solid state hard drives.
Is this a problem of the hard drive or the lap top? Can I request a regular hard drive from dell this time?
It seems they top out at 500 gb. Although I saw there is a 640 gb drive called the Samsung Spinpoint MP4 that is supposed to be out, but I can't find anywhere to buy it yet.
There are other larger drives, but they are only 5400 rpm.
My 320 gb laptop internal drive which came with my Dell finally crashed completely, blue screen, and all tests regarding the drive say 'fail', so I guess it's time to buy a new one...it was 5400 and I should upgrade to 7200 anyway....
Fortunately everything is backed up.
I was wondering if any apple owners could post if they are using a 7200 rpm drive in their macbook. Does the new aluminum unibody experience vibration from this drive or is it ok. I suppose the macbook pro would also fall under this since its also aluminum.
Im looking for a faster drive but im afraid the whole macbook will shake like crazy spinning up and down.
i have a HP dv6 2154CA, it has a quad processor, 4g of ddr3 ram, 1 g nvidia 230 M and a 640gb 5400 rpm hdd
i just bought the comp and I wanted to buy a 7200 rpm HDD for the comp as rite now the hdd is the only bottleneck..
However I am unable to find out anything about the mother board of this particular comp and HP support says I can't install a 7200 rpm drive on this computer!
now i have seen plenty of dv6 comps on hp's site with a 7200 rpm drive but they have a diff cpu or the mobo is diff.
I just want to know if I can swap my hdd for a 7200 rpm drive? please help me, please let me know if there is any other info that is required.
I bought an XPS 1530 four months ago. I went through 4 hard drives - one would fail, Dell would send a replacement ... that was the cycle. After #4 Hard Drive failed (and a tech came out to try and replace the motherboard & hard drive without success), I finally got them to agree to a "System Exchange"..
They sent me a new XPS 1530 - within 2 days the Hard Drive died! (#5)..
Anyone have any ideas (besides bad luck) of what could cause 5 failed hard drives in two different brand new systems?..
Electrical? I used the laptop at home and at my office. My office is a rented space inside another company's building.
I thought maybe electrical, but I use my old laptop their (Dell Inspiron 6000) and it has been fine. Unless something electrical causes a problem in the XPS only for some specific reason.
I have no idea, but does anyone have any "out of the box" explanations for me?
Dell is sending me a box so I can mail this 2nd laptop in to the Dell Depot for inspection and repair. My faith in the XPS 1530 is zero.
Any ideas or advice?
i am considering buying a SSD drive but i dont know which one will fit, also what do i need to consider about the warrenty when installing a SSD drive, will it expaire it?
The real reason that i want to change to SSD is because my HD is making too much noise electric noise, does the SSD produce it aswell? also are there are any other advantages, except it doesnt have any moving parts ?
like speed power supply etc?
also is it possible to install the drive by my own? and can i some how connect my old drive to my laptop as well?
the Matsua UJ-225 the only BD drive that will fit in XPS1530?
View 5 Replies View RelatedUsing my inspiron 2330 (only 18mths old ) as normal next thing it tells me it encountered fault and has to reboot anyway it keeps saying scanning and repairing drive (c) then does not allow me to log in so i manage to get into bios to do a scan and it guves me a error code of 2000-0142 validation code of 112406 and and then says harddrive 0-s/n wd-wmc152946178
When i finally manage to log in my desk top screen is flashing and keeps telling my hard drive fault ....
Something recently happened to my laptop, and now whenever I boot up my laptop, I get a message stating that "No drive detected", and I don't know if the hard drive might be damaged or not.
I tried connecting the hard drive directly to a desktop pc since it's a sata hard drive, but my desktop pc just froze on the boot screen whenever this hard drive was connected.
I also was going to try and use a hard drive external case to maybe connect it to the pc this way, but I wasn't sure if it would work
I'm thinking of removing my DVD drive and replacing it with a caddy and hard drive as explained here.
I don't use the DVD drive very often and would much prefer a 500GB or 1TB hard drive in there. The DVD drive can then be used externally via the eSATA port using this cable.
The ideal solution would be to use this NewmodeUS caddy as it supports the larger 12.7mm 1TB 2.5" hard drives and has a removable faceplate. The problem is the price.
At $55 including postage to the UK plus customs, VAT and clearance fees on top it's going to work out pretty expensive for what is essentially a slimline SATA to SATA extension
I hate for this to be my first post, but after looking everywhere on the internet and on this site (I've been lurking a while) I'm still at the same place I started with my Studio 15 laptop. I'll try to include as much detail as possible.
I had my laptop plugged into my LCD tv via an HDMI cable as I often do, and when I went to close the laptop to use just the LCD, the tv flashed, showed a blue screen of death for a quick second and then went black. I opened the laptop and it was still on, but the screen wouldn't go on.
I restarted my computer and from there on out it kept making a beeping noise and stalling for a really long time at the "Dell Studio/progress bar" screen. After leaving it at that screen for a while the clicking stop and then it allowed me to access the Boot Options and Setup. Under setup, when I click on the drive under SATA hard drive, it shows something like 10GB and nothing more, and I have no options on the screen .....

I have been getting a random blue screen popping up every once and a while, that will "dump my physical memory" or something and then reboot itself after like 30 seconds. my hard drive was the reason for these constant errors. So I backed everything up, in preparation of a real crash. I am in the process of ordering a new hard drive from Newegg.com, and I would like to know if it is hard to replace a hard drive in a notebook, or if I should have Geek Squad do it for $50. Also, I dont think I have the Operating system disc that came with my computer, so how do I order that from HP and how much is it?And last but not least, Is there a post or video with instructions on how to install a hard drive and the operating system?
I have a HP 15 Notebook PC with no dvd drive recently I was sent the system recovery cds from HP. I dont have an external dvd drive. What i do have is a Toshiba Satelight laptop with Widows 7 and a good dvd drive. Also I have a 500 GB external hard drive. I was thinking maybe I could copy the disks onto the external harddrive with the Toshiba dvd drive. Then attach the external hard drive to my HP 15 Notebook by usb port and install Hp recovey disks from the external hard drive.
View 2 Replies View RelatedLaptop is an Acer Aspire 1640. 2.26GHz, 2gb RAM.
Laptop was working fine with the factory Hitachi HTS541680J9AT00 80gb drive.
I purchased a Samsung HM160HC 160gb drive as it's supposed to be the fastest PATA laptop drive available.
I put it in and the laptop just kept saying "no operating system found" with the XP disk in the drive.
I tried several optical drives and got the same issue with all of them.
I then hooked a USB optical drive up and it wouldn't boot from it.
I removed the internal optical drive and the system then booted from the USB drive and loaded Windows fine.
I just assumed it was a fluke and once Windows was done loading I removed the USB drive, installed the factory internal optical again and turned it on...
"No operating system found".
This is where I'm stuck. If I remove the optical the system boots into Windows fine. There were no issues like this with the other hard drive.
I have tried setting the hard drive as Master, Slave, and Cable Select with no change.
Laptop has the newest BIOS.
Samsung does not offer firmware updates on their hard drives.
who opened I believe Z and connected a hard drive to dvd drive connector while leaving dvd drive in for cosmetic reasons. Can't find this thread. Where exactly can the hard drive go? Inside the tray?
I am afraid there will be too much vibration if I put regular HD there. For this reason I would rather put there SSD but is there a way to make this a primary OS drive? Seems like last bios allows to boot from optical drive.
I am thinking about getting a new DV4T and then upgrading the hard drive to an X-25 ssd, but obviously it'll only be 80GB which is an issue. I just read the NBR review of the DV4 and it seems that there is a special hard drive you can plug in into the optical drive bay to boost your storage space... i've been searching everywhere but I can't find the thing... anyone know where/if this thing does in fact exist and if it's compatible with the "new" DV4s?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to replace the hard drive in my XPS Gen 2. We currently have the original 60 GB 7200 RPM drive and I want at least an 100 GB 7200 RPM drive. I'm having a bit of trouble finding much - I need EIDE, not SATA, right?
I have come across this:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...437&CatId=2680
This would do, but is there anything else available that would be better? 120 GB or more would be nice, and so would having more than 8 MB buffer. It must be stable, too.
Since I haven't seen this posted anywhere, I felt it was worthy of mentioning. You can now purchase half a terabyte (aka terrorbyte <- yikes) in a convenient 2.5" form factor for your laptop.

Edit: Well actually 512 (actual) GB would be half a terabyte but you get the point
I ordered my xps 1530 with 320GB SATA hard drive 7200 rpm. I found the western digital website a tad confusing regarding this issue, hoping someone can help me out here.
device manager lists it as: WDC WD3200BEVT-75ZCT2
For the SXPS 16,
They're Western Digital.
I have the fujitsu MHW2120BJ G2 (120gb).
used HD Tune and it says the HD is at 51 C .
I am getting a new hard drive for my dell inspiron 1520 and i am planing to get a 500gb one.
I found this on newegg and wondering if it will work or if I should order it from somewhere else.

I recently replaced the SATA hard drive on my new Inspiron 1525 under warranty. Now Dell wants me to return the old drive, which I'd gladly do except for the fact that there is sensitive financial and password info on the drive.
I am not able to access the info by mounting the old drive as an axillary drive and therefore cannot overwrite the data on the drive.
The drive is currently sandwiched between two large magnets in hopes of scrambling the data, however, I cannot send the drive in without knowing for certain that the data is inaccessible

has anyone heard this problem before, its out of warrenty, will i need to buy a new hard drive?
I haven't posted in quite a while. Recently my Vostro 1700 has been making some clicking noises that really sound like hard drive clicking.
I hear them once or twice every hour, although the computer's performance remains perfectly normal. At first I thought it was an OS issue but I downgraded to XP and then upgraded back up to Vista and the clicking sound remains.
Could this really be hard drive clicking? The computer is just over a year old (Dec. 2007) and has the 250GB 5400RPM hard drive.
