Acer :: Aspire 3690 Keyboard Malfunction
Apr 5, 2009I have a aspire 3690 running vista. The left side of the keyboard types fine. The right side some keys don't work other type multiple letters and preforms different action. I replaced the keyboard twice thinking i bought a faulty one but still have the same problem. If i use a external USB or the onscreen keyboard it works fine. I also flashed the bio and still no change.

Jan 6, 2015I've had this laptop 3 weeks, and this morning the keyboard suddenly stopped working properly. All was fine last night, but this morning, when I tried to log in, I found that I couldn't type my password. Most keys have stopped working, while others just come up with random symbols or punctuation marks (e.g. the Fn key now displays a /). I can press any key to get from the intro screen with the clock and date. The touchpad is working as it should. Attaching an external keyboard also works.

Aug 20, 2009I just acquired a Kanga Powerbook running OS 9.1. It's in great shape except that the keyboard is experiencing a bizarre malfunction. Using Key Caps, I have determined that it is getting input from the Apple, control, option, and shift keys but the other keys are not responding. System Profiler also recognizes the keyboard as a Powerbook extended keyboard. It's as if the internal keyboard was somehow disabled. How can I reactivate it?

Feb 11, 2010I'm currently having some issues with the keyboard. It seems as if the two rows with Y and U are not responding.
Even from the Dell test thing. It happened that it would stop working for a short time, then work again and now it stop working again. It was intermittent and would always come back but now... I'm wondering will it ever come back?
What could I do? It's only 2 months old and I am out of the country, so I can't call support now. Could I make my warranty effective on other country?

Feb 11, 2010Th backlit keyboard on my XPS 1645 leaks a lot of light, which is quite annoying in dimly lit environments.
In my case it is mostly the upper row of keys, but other individual keys have the same problem. As not all keys have this problem I assume it is not a design feature.
Is anyone else experiencing this same issue? I have done a search on the forum, but couldn't find anything related.

Feb 18, 2010It's been over a month since I purchased my unit from Dell Malaysia and just yesterday I faced this very unusual problem with my keyboard. Keys 6 7 y u h j n m were not functioning. Did any of you experienced the same problem?
I am currently here in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and in case any of you knows how I can manage to avail Dell's warranty service from he I would love to hear from you.
Dell Studio XPS 1645 :: Backlight Keyboard No Longer Works
Mar 8, 2010I noticed last week that the back light option on my keyboard no longer functions.I know the Fn key works on the keyboard as I can perform other Fn+ tasks and I know that the right arrow key (which is the same combo key that controls back-lighting) also functions on it's own.
Aside from normal Windows 7 updates, the only changes to my laptop recently has been flashing to the A07 bios and the new power supply mailed out by Dell.Am I missing a software option somewhere that defaults my back-lighting to off? Or is it a mistake (or intention) of the A07 bios to disable this feature given the recent power supply throttle issues with this model laptop.

Dell :: 8800 GTX M1730 Malfunction Error In Vista
Aug 24, 2009problem with my 8800 GTX in my XPS 1730...
Within Vista, both cards show up with a yellow exclamaton and a error code 43
I tried installing drivers off the dell website and then using Nvidia Reference drivers. No luck...
Re-Installed vista fresh- same problem...
Installed Windows 7 w/ Refernce Nvidia drivers - Same problem.
THEN..I installed Windows XP Pro SP3 with Dell website drivers and everything is working fine. Ran 3dmark, no crashes...
is this a software problem or hardware? Why would my 8800 work in XP but not Vista or Win 7? Has anyone heard of this problem? My 1730 is out of warranty so calling dell isnt an option.

Sony :: VAIO BD Drive Malfunction
Feb 7, 2009All of a sudden my OPTIARC BD ROM 5500A drive does not recognize when a Blu-ray movie is inserted. I try to open the drive with a movie inside and it tells me to please insert a disc and ejects the drive.
I chated with the sony analysts and they told me to (in this order after the previous solution did not work):
1. Update WinDVD player
2. Reinstall WinDVD player
3. Update WinDVD player again
4. Restore my C: drive to factory conditions
5. Reset by BIOS
6. Take my laptop to a Sony shop and pay 600 dollars to get this fixed.
Everything points to hardware malfunction, but I find it weird that in my computer the drive is identified as a DVD-RW drive, when I KNOW that it used to be identified as a BD/DVD-RW drive.
DVDs and CDs play perfectly, but it acts like nothing is inside when I put in a Blu/RAy movie. In the device manager it is identified properly as an OPTIARC BD ROM, the driver it has is the generic CD drive windows driver (Sony support said that is what it should have).

HP/Compaq :: Hp Dv5000- Laptop Malfunction
Jan 3, 2009My hp dv5000 has been malftunctioning for the last few weeks, its shuting down ramdomly, i was wondering if my laptop may need a new battery (its i think been 2 1/2 years since i bought my computer). Im also not sure if it could be cause by a software malfuction or viruz. I would check to see if its a software malfuction but it doesnt stay on long enought.
I would like to know if i should get a new battery or if any of you know of any software malfunction could cause this.
Dell Inspiron N5110 :: Doesn’t Turn On Without AC Adapter - Battery Malfunction
Feb 3, 2013The battery of my inspiron N5110 is 100% charged but my lap doesn’t turn on without the AC adapter, I checked it in the dell support center and it says its working fine but the battery led blinks 4 times red and 1 withe. If I disconnect the AC adapter the lap turns off. Everything else is fine.

Feb 13, 2009I recently had my computer (HP Pavillion dv6000) repaired (I couldn't tell you exactly for what), and it was sent into HP to be repaired. I've got it back, and the problem that I previously had no longer exists.
Now however, the computer is not recognizing the battery. It works fine plugged into the wall and the battery is taken out, but when the battery is in the computer, the computer changes to battery power (instead of using external power and charging the battery) and soon dies, as my battery has little power left.
I borrowed a friend's battery (who has the same laptop) and for about 10 minutes the computer worked properly with the battery charging when plugged in. After those few minutes though, the computer resorted to battery power and won't charge. I think that rules out that it's just a faulty battery, but I could be wrong.

Apple :: Late 2008 MBP Keyboard - Left Side Of The Keyboard Feels Mushy
Mar 11, 2009I've had my MBP for about 4 month now and have been having problems with its keyboard since I bought it. First, the "Z" key sank in (I think there was a problem with the spring). I took it to the Apple Store, and they "fixed" on the spot (it's much harder to press and only registered a key press 70% of the time). The lower right corner of the "E" has noticeably sunk in, and I need to resort to pressing the upper left corner. Also, the left side of the keyboard feels "mushy", not hugely so, but definitely noticeable after typing a few sentences. Can I request that Apple just replace the entire keyboard instead of just individual keys?

I love the Acer, just not its keyboard and miss the thinkpad keyboard - which really encourages typing. The acer really doesn't.

Feb 24, 2009I currently have an AA1 and am curious to those who tried typing on both the HP Mini and the AA1 keyboards and noticed a difference. I believe the HP's keyboard is 92% and the AA1's is 89% I believe. It feels "okay" to type on, obviously not the best due to its size compared to a normal keyboard, but am wondering if the HP's is worth the price jump (paid 300 for mine).

Dec 27, 2009I'm currently deciding whether to buy the XPS 1645, 6GB RAM, i7, 500GB model of the XPS.
Or a refurbished MBP for the same price. (The one with 256MB DDR3 VRAM)
My main focus is video editing in HD. I've been using Windows 7 and OSX so am familiar with both systems.
What it comes down too right now is the build quality and the potential out of both machines.
I've read numerous reports of "Heat" problems from the XPS1645 which kinda scares me from buying it, however the 1080p and i7 kinda interest me.

Feb 3, 2010I have just received my new Studio XPS 1645 yesterday. since then i had been trying to install XP OS. then finally after being touched with dell, they said me that this machin is not compatible with XP Operating system. anyway, after that i tried to install vista ultimate and win7 dual boot. finally today i made it.
but the problem is both in VISTA and WINDOWS 7 the default font and icon is very small. in vista the taskbar icon is so small that they can hardly be seen. my screen is 15.6" widescreen with full hd (1920X1080). I have changed DPI Scalling to 120 DPI from the Default 96 DPI. but still the task bar icon (show desktop, switch between windows,internet explorer, mozilla firefox) is small. i have installed mozilla and it's font size has also become very small but clear(it seems). i m wondering is it they way in high resulation machine should appear. it's annoying. plz help me guys who is having this laptop.
Dell :: Waiting For My XPS 1645
Feb 5, 2010I ordered my XPS 16 during the signature event on 1/18 and it has a ship date of 2/8 which is on Monday. I don't expect that my laptop on time since its already Friday. The online status still shows it as pre-production and the two numbers I called say being processed/pre-prod/building plus the chat is no different.
I really hope there is no delay. I want my laptop
Anyway just wanted to post and say hi.
Dell :: No Bluetooth 1645
Mar 28, 2010All of the sudden, bluetooth stopped working on my laptop.
I installed the Dell driver when I first got the computer and everything was going fine. I was listening to music through some blue-tooth headphones this morning, when suddenly they unpaired.
Now, the BT light is on on the front of the computer, but the icon disappeared from the task bar. I tried reinstalling the driver, but got hung up when it asked to turn on blue-tooth with wireless button. The button doesn't do anything for turning on/off bluetooth that I can tell.
So now I'm stuck.
In Device Manager, there is no bluetooth 370 card. But I do have errors in the USB category and the "other devices" category.

May 4, 2010I generally use my computer each day, and if I close the lid at night without shutting the computer off, in the morning the computer will be off.
That wouldn't be a bad thing except many times it'll shut the computer off so I lose everything that was opened up. But the only weird thing is that it won't happen every time.
I was just wondering if any of you have this problem and if there was some setting that I overlooked each time when I looked to change that. It's not a big thing, but I had a Dell computer provided by school and it would still be on in the morning after using it at night...........................

Dec 16, 2009it seems that my lovlely 1645 keeps on freezing completely in random fashion. I have not noticed any patterns as everytime it has frozen it has been while doing something different, such as surfing the web, plugging in peripherals, etc etc. So know ive HAD IT. First with the bsod's when fullscreening a flash based video online, which i attribute to the video drivers, of which i have tried installing MULTIPLE, with no solution, and happens to begin with the screen freezing, and now the stupid freezing caused by random events..
Do these issues affect anyone else? I have noticed that the random freezing started to occur after flashing to the A03 BIOS.
i have already reinstalled the OS once, and dont want to do it again....unless absolutly necessary.
