Heres my problem.
I have an acer laptop, with a faulty DVD RW.
I need to remove it, but the screw on the bottom, which needs to be removed in order to take out the cd drive, has been damaged by me trying to unscrew it, and it will not turn, so the head is damaged and i cannot use a screw driver to turn it.
For some odd reason my laptop seems to make a funny pop sound. It occurs in the back of the left side of the 1705. I thought originally it was an audio thing, but it also did it on bootup and it will sometimes do it idiling on windows. Im not sure if this is due to the weather as i have this thing only a few feet from the window and actually our wood on out doors sometimes makes a crackling noise due to the changing weather. Its not a huge issue, but you can hear it when it happens and for some reason I fear it could be an audio issue, or something hardware related. It seems to take place near the 'lock' mechanism where you might insert a lock to keep the thieves away but it occurs for now on the left side of the laptop. After i come back from class I will try some things to fix it. We have been having a lot of problems in the building with internet, cable interference and odd noises coming from the walls so maybe its just this brand new building going to hell who knows.
My other guess would be when certain parts heat up (CPU,GPU) but they are running idle now at 55 and 60.
i've decided to jump on a mbp... now my question is.. i wanted to buy a case for it (one of the snap on crystal cases) and im wondering if i could use the ones for the previous macbook pro 13 for the newer macbookpro 13 ?
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy HP notebook's keyboard frequently stopped functioning. Each time required that I turn off the computer then turn it back on again. Recently the amount of time between each off/on was so short as to make the machine unusable, except when at home with an external keyboard. So I decided to venture into ensuring the keyboard was securely attached to the motherboard. I'm not expert and ended up breaking one leg of the plastic snap-on that holds the keyboard ribbon onto the motherboard. Oops.
So now I would like to know where I can obtain another one of these cute little snap-on thingies. I've looked into purchasing a new keyboard, which I'll probably do anyway, but I confirmed with a number of sellers that the plastic snap-on is included with the motherboard, not the keyboard. Bummer. So anyone have a suggestion on where I can get this snap-on thingy from?
Note that my notebook is an nx7000 and the keyboard has a model number 337016-001. Also, I've attached a photo of the snap-on thingy:
I wanted to change my hard drive back to my original one and it turns out that when I first changed it in May I have screwed the low quality screws too tight. When I tried to unscrew them again, 2 of them (the ones that are towards the middle of the laptop) failed to unscrew and I pretty much turned them unusable with my repeated tries.
I'm not going to rant about the fact that Dell could actually use STEEL screws to prevent this type of thing, I'm just going to ask you Dell XPS M1330 owners if there's any other way around getting the hard drive out.
If I'll unscrew all other screws, can I take my XPS apart? Is there anything I should be particularly careful with (other than unscrewing the low quality screws that is)? Or do you have any tips on how I could unscrew the faulty screws?
Anybody know what size screw is needed to hold the bluetooth card in place? I want to order the card but from what
I understand it won't come with the screw, so i need to find one that will fit.
Does anybody know the screw size for the wwan card in the XPS 1640 ?
I bought a card but it didn't came with the screws and i don't know what size to order.
I've been recently applying Arctic Silver 5 paste to my CPU/GPU according to the guide found on this forum. After that the temperatures not only did not drop they actually are slighlty higher. The problem may be that I haven't use the lint free cloth tough I did took care not to leave any lint on the surfaces. Anyway, I decided to redo a whole operation with much more care. Unfortunately as I opened my XPS M1530 one of the screws heads was broken in a way that I could not use any of my phillips screwdrivers on it. How can I remove it now & more importantly what are the dimensions/sizes of the screws that are used to attach the heatsing to the GPU/CPU as I may have to buy one to replace it & don't seem to be able to find that info anywhere?......
View 10 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if anyone on here uses a special size or brand of screwdriver when working on Dell laptops.
The reason I ask is because we support a number of Dells here at the office, and my team mostly has an el cheapo laptop repair kit with a very cheap universal screwdriver set.
I've noticed that the phillips head of the screwdriver doesn't seem to set very well into the Dell screws on the bottom of the laptop
I am thinking of just getting a nut and bolt to try to fix this problem, anyone have any ideas for a quick fix? Attached is a picture
btw: I tried superglue to glue the screw hole back on and let it dry overnight before putting the heatsink on.
(they finally nailed them for what we all KNEW was happening)
Dell accused of getting $6 billion from secret Intel pact New York's Cuomo names Intel in antitrust lawsuit (Nov. 4) By Ben Charny
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Dell Inc. allegedly received billions of dollars in payments over a four-year period to use chips made by Intel Corp. Payments that sometimes totaled more than the computer maker's reported profits for a fiscal quarter, according to a lawsuit filed on Wednesday.
I just did a clean install of win7. When asked on which partition I wanted it I also deleted the recovery partion thinking it would just be reallocated to the one I was installing win7.
Now win7 is all installed but I have a unallocated 15 gb and I have no idea how to get this space back.
I've been looking at the studio 1558 deal on the dell.ca website. The specifications say that the ram is 1333mhz, but on the customization page and review screen it says the ram is 1066mhz.
I'm looking at getting it with the i7 , so the ram speed matters. Which one is correct, the main site or the customization screen?
I have this Dell e1705 Core 2 Dou, 2 GB Ram and an ATI video card. I've been buying Nvidia's GO 7900 GS off ebay. some of them arrive here dead. the rest arrive, they work for 1 hour and then become like the rest, lines on the screen, color blinking, in windows, the Bios, and even in safe mode, I put my ATI back and everything works fine, only two of the 6 I got worked for like 1 hour, 1 just stopped working completely, and the other one that I bought a week ago worked for 1 hour then red flickers and pixels started appearing on the screen then it got messed up completely like the pictures show.
Is it possibble that its the mainboard, or any short, and why just Nvidias and not the ATI. I think I just have bad luck with the cards I bought.
I got an Aspire One a few months ago and it worked fine. I hardly ever use it.
I brought it with my on vacation and when I went to boot it up, it wouldn't turn on. Figured the battery was dead so I put the power cord in and turned it on.
After an hour or so, I unplugged the power cable and it instantly shut off. Thought it was weird, but whatever.
I just now noticed though that the battery light blinks orange. XP says the battery is 100%, but if you unplug the AC power, it instantly shuts off and it can't be turned on without the AC.
i have deleted my main drive (c), i want to recover back to the factory setting by recovery partition, i dont have the recovery center, so i cant use the f10 to recover it, how can i recover the drive by using the hidden recovery partition.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just had my Yoga 13 for about two months and really liked it. Upped RAM to 8GB and added the second SSD. Sweet.
But now I managed to nearly brick my nice little Yoga by spilling juice all over it, and now I am in recovery process.
I checked the original mSATA SSD on another machine, and it looks like it still works fine, all partitions are still there.
In the very beginning after first "drying" the Yoga I got it to boot a couple of times. But now all I get is "Default Boot Device Missing".
Next thing I'll try is putting the SSD in an external USB enclosure and try and boot from there.

My problem goes as following:One day I realised I cannot use my built in camera anymore. Tried reinstalling original preinstalled Cyberlink Youcam software, but as you can assume if that worked - I wouldn't be here. Then I tried troubleshooting according to HP guide. The problem is there is no category called "Imaging devices" at all.
I can place two bets on what could actually happen:
a) somehow I managed to delete basic HP webcam 101 driver.
The exact name of the device is: USBVID_05C8&PID_021E&MI_00
b) internal camera itself broke down (it's not unplugged cord issue - made sure myself)
I believe I could try installing basic separate driver for the camera, the problem is I cannot find one/cannot find reliable source. Could you send me/upload it for me?
I am using Lenovo G5070 and I installed the Graphic Drivers for Win7 but the main screen is very dim and its using the Intel VGA instead of the AMD Radeon display. I downloaded the latest drivers from the support site. How can I switch the main screen to AMD Radeon VGA
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm thinking on using my MBA as my main computer, therefore I'm considering buying the Apple Bluetooth Keyboard and the Mighty Mouse and hooking up to my HP Monitor for when I'm at my desk for long periods.
It's very easy to hook up ... this MBA seems quick enough and a usb hub can be added if need be ... why not use it as a main pc?
Further, the only windows app I'm really going to miss is Publisher, I'm thinking on being daring and installing Vista on the Mac with Bootcamp and then run Publisher in Windows. If that worked well I could get rid of the T500... (I have a desktop I could use for heavier app's, movie/music downloading) ...
Seems like a lot of work for such a small little machine, lol, can it handle it? Has anyone there done this before with success?
When I plug in headphones into my headohones port, should the main speakers not go to mute?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have 4 partitions on my disk as shown in Disk Management. I don't use hibernation, so I want to reclaim the 8GB partition for use as storage. I have a few questions regarding this.
1) What will I compromise if I remove the 8GB partition, other than hibernation?
2) I right-clicked on the OS partition and selected "Shrink Volume". I received the popup shown in the attached image below. It doesn't reflect anything about returning the 8GB partition to the OS partition. In fact, shrinking goes against my intention of expanding the OS partition to include the 8GB. Right-clicking on the 8GB partition only brings up "Help" in the context menu and is not shrinkable.
3) Can I do this any time after having used the laptop for a while, with data and programs already installed? Does the process affect existing files and installations?
Do Vaio Z Series laptop owners use their laptop as their main primary computer or a secondary computer? Do Vaio Z series owners also have a desktop pc as their primary computer and use their Vaio Z Series as a secondary computer? Or is your Vaio Z Series laptop your one and only computer that you always use? Is it comfortable using the 13 inch screen for long periods of time?
Reason i ask is some people have more then one computer and some people just have one.
I'm just wondering if the Vaio Z Series laptop is a good choice as a main computer since it's got good specs and it's nicely portable but will the 13 inch screen be ok to use for long periods even at the higher 1600 x 900 resolution?
Im still torn between getting a M90 or Inspiron 1720. The M90 would have the Quadro FX1500M and the 1720 the Geforce 8600GT. I like the fact that the 8600 is DX10 capable, but I've heard that the FX1500 performs a little better. My 1720 would be new, with 1.8 core 2 duo, 1GB ram and 120GB hard drive. Would this setup outperform an M90 with 1.6 core2duo, 1gb ram and 80gb harddrive. This computer would be for gaming and internet. What should I do?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have recently downloaded Windows 7 beta from MS and have my OS DVD's in the mail from Dell... now here is my problem.
I have the 3 partitions that came with my 1720 from the factory. OS C:, DATA D:, RECOVERY E: I am not interested in messing that up as my vista ultimate runs great. I am VERY interested in test driving Win7 and doing a little bug hunting in my spare time. Now what I would like to do I am not sure is possible.
I currently have Vista 32 installed and would like to dual boot Windows7 64 on the DATA drive. I've heard about removing the primary drive and installing on whatever is left then using the BIOS to determine which drive to boot from. Would this work on my Inspiron? It seems like an Ideal solution. I can make a nice partition on the D using partition magic or something and format that to whatever Win7 would like then use, i think it's f12?, to determine which drive to boot from when i turn my computer on. I know laptops open a whole new world of quirks which is why I ask this question of you guys to see where my logic is flawed and if there is a way to get around that. I should have my Vista 32 and 64 disks by wednesday so hopefully a workable solution is found by then!
My laptop doesnt over heat or anything but I have had this dell inspiron 1720 for over a year now and I really would like to clean out the fans/vents.
I read people's posts and they make it sound so easy to do. Well i flipped my laptop over and i look near the vents. There are no screws near the vent.
I also checked my manual and it does not show you how to get to the fan without taking the complete laptop apart. Is the 1720 really this hard to get to the fan or am i overlooking something?
I really don't feel like taking the screen off and then the keyboard just to get the fan.
what is the best processor not named Intel Core 2 Extreme Mobile X9000 2.8GHz 6MB and is it overclockable in the 1720?
Also are any of the t9550, t9600, or t9800 compatible with the 1720?
I have done a search on this so forgive me if its been addressed already. I found no answers.
I have seen taht a number of Inspiron 1720s have the 8600m GT card in them with 512 mb of memory, while others such as mine have the same card, but with 256mb memory on them.
I'm getting ready to start doing some photoshop work as well as some CAD work. I'm going to start my engineering degree as soon as I finish my current degree. Would this increase in memory help out in what I will be doing?
Will it also help in gaming? I pretty much use this laptop for everything and am trying to learn what I can about it so I fully understand it's capabilities and such.
I am stuck looking at a black screen. Also, when closing the lid I am unable to open the lid and restore my previous session.
Although I am not sure if this is directly related but it seems to only deter me from restoring the session if the computer has been plugged in, otherwise the laptop comes back exactly as it was.
I have tried reinstalling the video driver twice, both times doing a complete clear and removing all registries tied to them
