Dell :: Any Possible To Replace M4400/E6500 Speaker?
Dec 14, 2009I heard that the speaker quality is poor for these series.
Has anyone successfully replace the speaker? or is this possible?

I need to make the outlook of the M4400 looks similar to E6500. Is the front cover of LCD exchangable between these 2 laptops?
Sounds stupid but I cannot let certain people know that I am having M4400.
I'm considering one of these two systems for my personal computer as desktop replacement.
I don't need all the style of a consumer laptop, and I don't do much gaming (maybe an occasional game here or there).
I sense that either of these two computers will be high performance and high quality even as a personal computer.
I am in the markey for either an E6400 or an M4400. I like the power of the M4400 and the looks but I have heard some stuff about the lid not being as sturdy as it looks.
Is it made of metal as the lid of the E6500 is?
Which is a more durable laptop in yor opinion?
I have just received a refurb E6500 from the Dell outlet and felt as if it wouldn't be powerful enough for engineering (found an M4400 on the outlet a day after I bought the E6500 that would have fit my budget ).
So after reading some reviews and looking at some pictures I have decided to do a motherboard swap with an M4400 (and if everything works out make $60 from it all too!)
I have a M4400, and I notice there is no eject button for expresscard slot.
I am thinking to buy 54mm hidden esata expresscard, but i worry once i install i may not be able to pull it out because the card is not extruded like normal card. It is 'hidden'
I can't remember where I read it but somebody mentioned that on some of the older versions of the Dell ALPS Touchpad drivers there were more options available. Anybody know which version, if any, had support for tap zones in the corners or for browser back/forward swipe zones?
I tried the latest Toshiba drivers and the driver lets you configure these zones but for some reason it doesn't work. Horizontal scroll didn't work either on the Toshiba drivers but a feature I can only describe as "typing palm guard" works on the Toshiba version even though the Dell drivers don't have support for it.
So this suggests to me there are more options available that the ALPS hardware on our machines can support than provided by the Dell drivers.
On the Dell drivers when you type and graze your palm against the pad you can inadvertently move your cursor, select text in a random area, or accidentally lose focus from the edit box.
With the Toshiba driver it disables the touchpad as you type so that these mistakes can't happen and you can graze or even rest your palm on the touchpad surface
I currently have a Latitude E6400 that I LOVE...except for the display. I bought it from the Outlet and it was such a good deal that I couldn't pass it up. But it has the WXGA (1280x800) CCFL display and I really wanted the WXGA+ LED.
I'm in the process of finding its replacement, again from Dell Outlet. I'm seriously thikning about stepping up a size to the E6500 and getting the WUXGA (1920x1200) display. The Outlet also has a surprising number of Precision M4400s in stock, too. I've also found several of those with the WUXGA display that I want.
I don't "need" the more powerful graphics card in the M4400. But I really like (make that- LOVE) the exterior design of the Precision
I am very curious with this Frankenstein-ish upgrade. I have seen both the Precision M4400 and the Latitude E6500 up close before and I do realize that both laptops use pretty much the same lower chassis and other modular internals with the only difference is the screen and screen bezel and touchpad unit.
With the exact port locations the same. Is it worth it to get a refurbished M4400 motherboard and swap it with a Latitude E6500 one and putting it in a fully working Latitude E6500?
The reason I ask about this is a friend of mine's mother works for a company that resells their ~1 year old Latitudes for a really cheap price (I think Latitude E6500's go around $250-$350 a piece!) and replace them with newer Latitudes and (rarely Precisions) from Dell the following year.
Just logged on to dell's driver site. WOW, new drivers dated yesterday for fingerprint. Finally i'm getting native windows 7 bio support for my M4400. Downloaded and installed.
No, nothing, nada, shaite. Still no support. This is ugly. Just read online that Dell listens and now you can get Inspiron 10 with Moblin. What about business users that scream for native bio support for latitude and precisions. Dell needs to shape up on this point.
I've been listening to a bunch of podcasts on my laptop lately and realized that the right hand side speaker is MUCH louder than my than the left speaker, in fact if I lower the balance on the right speaker to 0% and left to 100% it's not half as loud as the right at 100%. Is this normal? If not is there a fix for this?
Also when typing, if I press the Caps lock key too fast the cursor disappears and my typing is interrupted anyone know is up with that?
The right speaker in my notebook is louder then the left one is. The only way to compensate for the problem is to lower the "balance" in the sound properties for the right speaker (I have it all the way down to 70 if you can believe that!) Now my audio sounds even between the left and right speaker. I think it's ashame that seems to be the only fix for the problem. Not sure if this is a driver issue or a hardware issue.
NVidia installs audio drivers to the computer when installing the video drivers (which I still don't understand why...I thought NVidia was a graphics company?) Then I install the IDT drivers/software afterwards. HP has verified that this is correct so everything on my end is up to date...minus of course offical drivers for the 320M video card that everyone is still waiting on!
Hey does both the Studio 15 and XPS 16 use the same speakers??
If they don't then which one is:
1. louder
2. has bigger bass
3. has better sound quality
how to clean out the crumbs/particles that fall in the speaker grill on the studio xps 16? A vacuum does not seem to work.... its driving me insane. Great amazing laptop, but the speaker grills get very dirty and there seem to be no way to clean them.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm planning to buy a portable speaker for my Dell Inspiron 1525. Is there any type of speaker that will work best,or will any kind speaker work on my laptop?
I prefer the speaker to be portable and can be used also with any audio devices.
I am looking to buy external speakers for this unit but I am not too familiar with what's out there and what would go well with this notebook.
Im looking to spend 60-70 dollars or so but can manage up to 100 dollars (CAD).
Is there a way to get 2.1 audio instead of just stereo so I can have control to my subwoofer?
I can only choose stereo, quadraphonic, and 5.1 surround under speaker setup. Is the bass boost the only way I can control my subwoofer on the laptop?
I just have on board audio with sigmatel HD audio software. It will let me change my 2 audio and 1 mic port to all 3 audio ports for front, center, and rear.
I'm very irritated with a rattle being created by the "subwoofer" to the right of the touchpad on my new SXPS 16. Has anyone with a SXPS 16 noticed this rattle? The rattle is especially bad when I'm talking to people on skype; I'm assuming the midrange frequencies are causing the laptop to rattle ....
View 10 Replies View RelatedThe sound on my XPS1530 just cut out and I can't get it back, volume is on and not muted, however I still get sound through the headphone sockets.

Hello,
I'm looking to buy a speaker addons for my Dell Studio 17.
I've been browsing through the 4 or so pages and there's just so much!
My budget is under 100$. Here is the link:

There's about 4-5 that I really like but I don't know if its crap or not.
Any recommendations?
The left speaker on my Dell XPS M1330 went silent some time ago for all sound sources (Window Media, iTunes, QuickTime) without so much as a crackle.
I suspect that either the speaker itself died or the connecting wire has been dislodged. Do these suspicions seem plausible? Are there other causes I need to consider?
I want to check the connecting left speaker wire and re-attach it, if applicable. Can someone provide me a URL to diagrams that illustrate the speaker wires and their attachments clearly? I tried a Google search without success.
Does anyone or have anyone had their left side speaker replaced with DYI. I need a new left side speaker cause mines blew up.
If I were to call dell and order a new one, is it going to be hard to replace or can someone share some pictures with instructions! By the way would the speaker need to include the LED lightings too?
I bought my XPS in October 2007 and I just updated it from Vista to Windows 7. There is no sound from the speaker, but in the "sound -> playback",
it is normal. There are two "speakers" and the volume bar to have reaction when I play music.
Just thought I'd post some info on what I just went through. Ever since A06 bios release I was having internet connection issues (slow!) and a speaker problem. When I logged off, I got a message saying " waiting for logoff sound" and had to click the force restart/shutdown prompt. Then I installed A07 bios and after playing a mp3 file with windows media player and then restarting, I would have no sound at all!. I had to shutdown, wait a few minutes and restart and sound would come back, weird?
Anyway, I decided to try and solve these issues, so I uninstalled the IDT audio & driver and reinstalled from Dell download site hoping it was just a bad install. BAD MOVE, now my sound really went bad! All sounds played through only one speaker AND it was really muffled sounding. I tried everything to fix this with no luck until I rolled back to A03 bios and ta da, sound was normal again, no issues whatsoever PLUS, my internet connection improved significantly!
Now I am hesitent to update to either the a06 or a07 bios since machine is running better tha n ever on a03. My uneducated opinion is you need to run any updates released prior to a06 or a07 bios before you install these updates.
In conclusion, if you are having issues like me, roll back to A03 bios, reinstall or update drivers, problem solved.
Dell doesn't seem to want to send me one even though they put a big scratch in it... long story..

My Latitude, barely 2 months with me, has it's speaker grill paint peeling off. It started with the right speaker grill and now the left one's starting to peel as well and its even bigger than the right one.
Anyone have any idea what type of paint I can use to fix it? I don't have the onsite luxury and I would really hate to send it to Dell just for cosmetic repair.
Picture attached.
Anyone else with a Dell Studio and the SRS Premium Surround Sound speaker notice that the bass and general speaker quality is skys and above better when listening on Ubuntu Lucid vs
