View 10 RepliesI have an inspiron e1705 and when I push the power button, the back light illuminates and lights on the keyboard are green but I get no post beep or video. I plugged it into a vga external monitor with the same result. What could be the problem?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been listening to a bunch of podcasts on my laptop lately and realized that the right hand side speaker is MUCH louder than my than the left speaker, in fact if I lower the balance on the right speaker to 0% and left to 100% it's not half as loud as the right at 100%. Is this normal? If not is there a fix for this?
Also when typing, if I press the Caps lock key too fast the cursor disappears and my typing is interrupted anyone know is up with that?
The right speaker in my notebook is louder then the left one is. The only way to compensate for the problem is to lower the "balance" in the sound properties for the right speaker (I have it all the way down to 70 if you can believe that!) Now my audio sounds even between the left and right speaker. I think it's ashame that seems to be the only fix for the problem. Not sure if this is a driver issue or a hardware issue.
NVidia installs audio drivers to the computer when installing the video drivers (which I still don't understand why...I thought NVidia was a graphics company?) Then I install the IDT drivers/software afterwards. HP has verified that this is correct so everything on my end is up to date...minus of course offical drivers for the 320M video card that everyone is still waiting on!
Hey does both the Studio 15 and XPS 16 use the same speakers??
If they don't then which one is:
1. louder
2. has bigger bass
3. has better sound quality

I dont know if it is the right word for my problem but the notebook beeps ... its a sound like "piiieeep" .. a very high pitch sound. But the sound is very silent ... you can hear it when the fan is off. But everytime when the fan is off i hear the sound ...
that make me crazy .... what is the reason for that ? I think the sound comes from the right side of the notebook near the power cable.
The second Problem is the WLAN ... my wlan connectivity is very very low ... with another notebook i have full connectivity and with the sxps13 i got no connectivity or very low. Is that normal ?
Third thing is ... sometimes in irregular intervals the screen goes black for less then 1 second and then the normal screen comes back .
how to clean out the crumbs/particles that fall in the speaker grill on the studio xps 16? A vacuum does not seem to work.... its driving me insane. Great amazing laptop, but the speaker grills get very dirty and there seem to be no way to clean them.

I'm very irritated with a rattle being created by the "subwoofer" to the right of the touchpad on my new SXPS 16. Has anyone with a SXPS 16 noticed this rattle? The rattle is especially bad when I'm talking to people on skype; I'm assuming the midrange frequencies are causing the laptop to rattle ....

I got a new laptop in about June or so, and it ran great. I have McAfee for anti-virus, if that helps.
About 2 weeks ago, my computer started to slow down. A lot. My typing would lag on the screen, and some of the letters won't even show up.
I also seem to get an insane amount of pop ups on whatever sites I go on, and I get about 5 popups every hour, on the hour. When I scan, though, I get nothing.
Now, this is the worst part. My computer will completely freeze a lot. When it does, I'll wait a minute to see what happens.
Then, if I click the screen a few times, a single, insanely loud beep will come from the computer. This will happen a few times before I can actually use my computer, and I have to re-boot often.
My computer is insanely slow, like I said before, and it takes forever for it to finish starting up. Half the time, it'll freeze before I can even log in.
If it helps, this started around the time when I signed up for Facebook, if that has to do with anything. I've tried to do virus scans many many times, and I used the Dell Automated PC TuneUp tool. But, nothing seems to work.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have replaced my old CPU (T8300 2.4/3M/800) with a new CPU (NEW SLGEE Dell Intel Core 2 Duo T9900 3.06GHZ/6MB/1066 Mhz Socket P CPU Processor )...All I get now is when I start the computer the "power LED" will blink once and beep once and then the "battery led" will blink once and then it will shut off. If I remove the new CPU and replace it with my old CPU it works fine...Does this sound like the new CPU is bad or not supported by my motherboard? From what my manual tells me this CPU should be supported by my motherboard. My manual says it can handle Intel Core 2 Duo, 6MB and 1066 FSB. Dell verified that my system is socket P.

The left speaker on my Dell XPS M1330 went silent some time ago for all sound sources (Window Media, iTunes, QuickTime) without so much as a crackle.
I suspect that either the speaker itself died or the connecting wire has been dislodged. Do these suspicions seem plausible? Are there other causes I need to consider?
I want to check the connecting left speaker wire and re-attach it, if applicable. Can someone provide me a URL to diagrams that illustrate the speaker wires and their attachments clearly? I tried a Google search without success.
Does anyone or have anyone had their left side speaker replaced with DYI. I need a new left side speaker cause mines blew up.

I bought my XPS in October 2007 and I just updated it from Vista to Windows 7. There is no sound from the speaker, but in the "sound -> playback",
it is normal. There are two "speakers" and the volume bar to have reaction when I play music.
I heard that the speaker quality is poor for these series.

In 2 days ive had my 1557 to just shut down 4 different times.Everything just goes boom off.It could be the DEMO game im playing but upon restart sometimes I get a beep code.
I just hit the power button and it shuts down then I hit it again and it POST and boots like normal
OS: Windows XP SP3
I had two 512MB 2Rx16 PC2-5300S-55-12 sticks of ram in my laptop.
I purchased 2 x 2GB 200PIN DDR2 SODIMM 256MX64 sticks to install.
When i put in the new sticks I get 2 short beeps and it doesn't finish booting the the OS.
Am I doing something wrong? I know that the OS will only recognize 3Gb but it should at least boot right?

I recently bought a XPS L702X. When I boot the pc and when I start typing, I sometimes get a beep sound for every single button I press on my keyboard.It's about 50% of the time honestly. Sometimes I can boot the pc, start typing for 30 mins and I hear no beep. But sometimes I start pc and first hit on my keyboard immediatly gives a beep sound. Also it could just start in the middle of a text I'm typing and end 3 sentences later without me doing anything about it.some people say to check bios and turn off things related to keyboard sounds.I checked that but I couldn't find it and the things I found about my keyboard in bios were not changeable.

Note: My battery was not working, laptop was running as plug in only.
My laptop suddenly turned off during working, and wont start again, after giving a day rest, it starts again but before the windows launch it turns off again and wont start again.
Few days after I simply removed my battery and it start working normally but its been only 5 days, my laptop wont turn on now.
when I connect my AC power, laptops power lights on and it beeps once and power gone.
when I try to press power button, nothing happens,
but when i remove AC adapter and connect again, power light comes automatically but after 2 seconds it beeps and turned off.
I have tried disconnecting AC power, hold power button for 60 secs, and then connect my AC adapter (power button being pressed) lights come, it beeps for one time and turned off.
I have dell red n5040 i3 processor, service tag<Service Tag removed as per privacy policy> no display. i already remove the cd rom, hdd, wlan. i replace new memory. but still don't display. when i remove the memory it beep twice, when i installed the memory i beep once but still don,t display. I tried the original memory to other laptop it runs ok.
View 6 Replies View RelatedJust thought I'd post some info on what I just went through. Ever since A06 bios release I was having internet connection issues (slow!) and a speaker problem. When I logged off, I got a message saying " waiting for logoff sound" and had to click the force restart/shutdown prompt. Then I installed A07 bios and after playing a mp3 file with windows media player and then restarting, I would have no sound at all!. I had to shutdown, wait a few minutes and restart and sound would come back, weird?
Anyway, I decided to try and solve these issues, so I uninstalled the IDT audio & driver and reinstalled from Dell download site hoping it was just a bad install. BAD MOVE, now my sound really went bad! All sounds played through only one speaker AND it was really muffled sounding. I tried everything to fix this with no luck until I rolled back to A03 bios and ta da, sound was normal again, no issues whatsoever PLUS, my internet connection improved significantly!
Now I am hesitent to update to either the a06 or a07 bios since machine is running better tha n ever on a03. My uneducated opinion is you need to run any updates released prior to a06 or a07 bios before you install these updates.
In conclusion, if you are having issues like me, roll back to A03 bios, reinstall or update drivers, problem solved.
Dell doesn't seem to want to send me one even though they put a big scratch in it... long story..

My Latitude, barely 2 months with me, has it's speaker grill paint peeling off. It started with the right speaker grill and now the left one's starting to peel as well and its even bigger than the right one.
Anyone have any idea what type of paint I can use to fix it? I don't have the onsite luxury and I would really hate to send it to Dell just for cosmetic repair.
