I have dell red n5040 i3 processor, service tag<Service Tag removed as per privacy policy> no display. i already remove the cd rom, hdd, wlan. i replace new memory. but still don't display. when i remove the memory it beep twice, when i installed the memory i beep once but still don,t display. I tried the original memory to other laptop it runs ok.
View 6 RepliesMy screen recently started getting a lot of faded white lines going horizontal and vertical across my screen causing the screen to blur/disorientated my screen. I can still navigate just fine but there is clearly something wrong here. I've plugged it into my hdmi's port on my tv and the image is just fine. Is it a wiring problem maybe? The lines are getting slightly more extreme and a little more colored... They lines of windows extend around the border all the way to the end if the screen.

Dell is recommending that people who are out of warranty to purchase a motherboard. System is only 2 years old.
At random, the 6,5, - and = keys get pressed (can be seen if a text editor/area is focused at the time) and the Windows 'help' dialog pops up, then shut down (no BSOD) within 2-3 seconds. It can also just shut off at any point during boot/shut down.

When i start my laptop it loads like it was before( it says big DELL and Inspiron,then progress bar and F2 Setup and F12 Boot options). After that loads i see this thing flashing _ . And then red text comes up and says something like " Your laptop was blocked because bla bla bla" and after that red text this thing _ flashing. Keyboard is blocked, nothing happens when i try to connect USB or my mouse. The only thing i can do on my laptop now is press F2 or F12 while Dell loads, before that red thing.
How do i restore my system, what disks do i use?
I think the problem may be to do with dust in the cooling fan vent .Tried to remove the back to get at it but nothing budges despite removing all screws. How to I do this?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an Inspiron N5040 just over one year old. To do a Factory Restore I followed the instructions and pressed <F8> after a power up.
In gets to the Advanced Boot Options menu. When I select Repair Your Computer it gives 2 options something like
1) Repair Windows
2) Start Windows Normally
If I select Repair Windows it loops back to the same screen and does not do anything.
What should I do? The laptop did not come with restore CD's or DVD's...

I have a problem with double clicking. (assume that all clicking is the left click) It is most apparent on the internet, when I hit the back button once, I go back two pages. Its annoying, but now i'm having trouble highlighting, and other important tasks. I do know about keyboard alternatives, but the mouse is just more convenient.
This problem started soon after my laptop survived having orange juice spilled onto it.
I have done my own research, and most forums state a software problem, but I am sure that I have a mechanical problem. I noticed that there is an "upstroke" and a "downstroke" to my click. When I click, that is the downstroke, the mouse performs as it's supposed to; but when I lift my finger, there is a second click that I did not intend, the upstroke. I've tested this on button clicking games on my laptop, and on other computers.
I have a dell inspiron n5040 . Its only 1 month old.since 2days ago everytime i try to turn it on all i get is a blank screen with audio of 7 beeps a pause then 7 more and so on. I have read a few posts about taking the battery out and pressing the power button for 30 secs and also trying with just the ac power, I don't think this works for my problem. However, it appears the original issue was the drive was coming loose from the connector. Now anytime I set the laptop down or on the side the hard drive comes loose. We can not find any type of strap or screw that holds the hard drive in place. It is a model N5040. All screws were tightened and none appear to be missing.

That being said, I am not actually having any problems with my computer. I ran the f12 diagnostic after a routine scan notified me of a smart short test fail and it came up on the diagnostic as well. Does that mean that at any moment I would actually see something happen?

I am noticing that on photographs (like my screensaver background) there are fuzzy lines across the screen kind of like straight sunrays at an angle. View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 15 (N5040) and currently having problems with it. I was watching something this morning and suddenly the screen turned green and then shut off. It turns on but the screen refuses to. I first expected that the screen is just unplugged inside the computer so I tried to hook it up to my TV via Hdmi and oddly it didn't do anything.I took it all apart disconnecting everything and then reconnecting everything. Everything seemed to be in good shape. No signs of shorts. Then after letting it run I noticed it beep 4 times. According to Dell 4 beeps mean "Read/Write error." I don't know if they meant the ram or hdd so I tried isolating both sticks of ram and no difference. I tried putting in two different hdds, nothing different. Even if they were I don't know why the screen wouldn't turn on and the bios wouldn't try to load. I suspect that the gpu is just fried. Dell Inspiron 15 (N5040), Intel i3, 8 gb of ram. Windows 7.

My laptop suddenly turned off during working, and wont start again, after giving a day rest, it starts again but before the windows launch it turns off again and wont start again.
Few days after I simply removed my battery and it start working normally but its been only 5 days, my laptop wont turn on now.
when I connect my AC power, laptops power lights on and it beeps once and power gone.
when I try to press power button, nothing happens,
but when i remove AC adapter and connect again, power light comes automatically but after 2 seconds it beeps and turned off.
I have tried disconnecting AC power, hold power button for 60 secs, and then connect my AC adapter (power button being pressed) lights come, it beeps for one time and turned off.

so sometimes my laptop will just randomly beep twice then something clicks... It just does it randomly, sometimes when I turn my laptop off and just randomly when it's running. The beeps are short.

I been reading threads about dell beep codes problem. Mine comes up after days of expired waranty. Very dissapointed with it because I now that my 1 year waranty expired I can not contact Dell support anymore.
It's been unclear if the what's the problem cause but one thing is for sure. I am very dissapointed in Dell, looks like their product has only 1 year life span.
