Dell Inspiron 15 N5040 :: Won't Start Up / Suddenly Screen Turned Green And Then Shut Off
Feb 4, 2015I have a Dell Inspiron 15 (N5040) and currently having problems with it. I was watching something this morning and suddenly the screen turned green and then shut off. It turns on but the screen refuses to. I first expected that the screen is just unplugged inside the computer so I tried to hook it up to my TV via Hdmi and oddly it didn't do anything.I took it all apart disconnecting everything and then reconnecting everything. Everything seemed to be in good shape. No signs of shorts. Then after letting it run I noticed it beep 4 times. According to Dell 4 beeps mean "Read/Write error." I don't know if they meant the ram or hdd so I tried isolating both sticks of ram and no difference. I tried putting in two different hdds, nothing different. Even if they were I don't know why the screen wouldn't turn on and the bios wouldn't try to load. I suspect that the gpu is just fried. Dell Inspiron 15 (N5040), Intel i3, 8 gb of ram. Windows 7.

May 23, 2012I have a dell inspiron n5040 . Its only 1 month old.since 2days ago everytime i try to turn it on all i get is a blank screen with audio of 7 beeps a pause then 7 more and so on. I have read a few posts about taking the battery out and pressing the power button for 30 secs and also trying with just the ac power, I don't think this works for my problem. The power and battery lights comes on and the disk holder flashes. So my problem is I TURN ON MY LAPTOP AND THE SCREEN IS BLANK,I HEAR 7 BEEPS ETC.

Apr 17, 2013I am currently using windows 8 as my OS. When I attempt to start my laptop the Dell logo flashes on the screen and the screen turns blank/black and sits there for a few min before displaying an empty bar and F12 Boot Options in the bottom right hand corner.
I have attempted to press F12 to try and load windows in safe mode but everything is frozen at this point.
Is there a way to determine if its a hardware issue or windows issue. When I searched for the issue I found some with a similar issue but the link provided for support was no longer valid

Jan 18, 2015I fitted a new LCD panel to an Inspiron 3520. Upon boot, it showed the Dell logo, then went all white and then displayed a grid made up of RGB pixels across the screen. I checked the panel was connected properly and the tried to reboot but now the screen doesn't power up at all. The laptop also now plays 4 beeps while trying to boot. I've tried connecting an external monitor, but it also does not display anything an plays the 4 beeps.

Dec 9, 2014my laptop has failed the hard drive diagnostic with an error code of 2000-0142, and looking here in the forum I see it means that I should replace the hard drive. That being said, I am not actually having any problems with my computer. I ran the f12 diagnostic after a routine scan notified me of a smart short test fail and it came up on the diagnostic as well. Does that mean that at any moment I would actually see something happen?

Apr 19, 2013My screen recently started getting a lot of faded white lines going horizontal and vertical across my screen causing the screen to blur/disorientated my screen. I can still navigate just fine but there is clearly something wrong here. I've plugged it into my hdmi's port on my tv and the image is just fine. Is it a wiring problem maybe? The lines are getting slightly more extreme and a little more colored... They lines of windows extend around the border all the way to the end if the screen.

Aug 28, 2013All of the diagnostics have been run, multiple times to determine the BIOS light flash count blank screen issue, and all other suggestions run, including an additional monitor, with no success.
Hard drive, disc drive, everything works, or at the very least sounds like it is attempting to work as required on start up, just a blank screen. Final diagnostic points to the video card as the culprit? With all of the new systems available around $300, would like to know if it is the video card, and if it is worth the fix or just purchase an entirely new system?

Jul 8, 2010I've had my Studio 1537 for about a year and once in awhile my laptop screen goesblank after my computer restarts or if I turn my laptop on. This happened to be about 10 times (the first time I spent about 3 days on the phone with a technian) already and I always have to reinstall Windows Vista to get my laptop working again. Today I found out that whenever my computer updates my video drive my screen will go blank, is this normal? What I can do to prevent this from happening again? My screen also goes blank when I install a video driver from the dell CD, but when I uninstalled it in safe mode and restart my laptop my screen is no longer blank.

Mar 28, 2013Whenever I switch on my Inspiron 6400, either via the On/Off or Media Direct button, the screen almost always goes blank within less than a second. I would like to reset the computer to its original factory settings via F8 or reinstall the operating system via F12 but cannot do so because of the blank screen. Occasionally, I hear the sound which accompanies the window screen a few seconds after switching the computer on; the computer will also sometimes whirr and the number lock and wife symbols will illuminate, all whilst the screen remains blank.
This problem first developed yesterday when I received the message "NTLDR is missing". With a bit of perseverance yesterday, I could eventually get the computer to work by repeatedly switching it on an off, but this no longer seems possible today.My computer has Windows Vista.

The screen suddenly went black when I was watching tutorial about using Windows 8 from the Start Screen, which immediately closed the video, and a few seconds later the start screen appear. When the start screen appear, the size of the tiles and the fonts became smaller then before the black out happened. Then a warning box appear saying "No AMD graphic driver is installed, or the AMD driver is not functioning properly. Please install the AMD driver appropriate for your AMD hardware".

Dell :: Inspiron 1526 Blank Screen After Hibernation
Oct 21, 2009My Dell Inspiron 1526 won't restore after hibernation.
After a recent Vista update the laptop was placed in hibernation mode before the normal 'restart to complete update' process. After a minute or so i press a button expecting to see a logon screen, instead the monitor was off, blank screen with no power.
I presss every button but nothing happened. After a restart the monitor remains off but i can still hear 1526 checking the cd drive. I restarted several times trying the Fn+F8 option with an external monitor and pressing the up button while holding Fn but still the same.
1526 appear to be in a wierd state because i placed a XP boot cd and restart then hit Enter several times. If the backlight or inverter was the only problem then 1526 would boot from the cd as normal though i wouldn't be able to see. It doesn't, it simply power up, checks the cd drive then does nothing.
