I have a dell inspiron N5110 laptop.It switches off randomly when i say switches off it doesn't go to the shutdown mode it just switches off. I have run the diagnostics and everything is fine BIOS is completely up to date and there are no heating issues it sometimes switches off right after i switch it on. My warranty has expired .

View 5 Replies View Relatedwhen I tried to play any sound (details at bottom ). Anyway, I went onto the dell website to get a driver to see if it would fix it. I had to fond this service key thing, and then it told me I needed to get these three things. They were a couple of number with a letter or two in there, meant nothing to me. So I installed one, and it came up with this grid, and the boxes were getting filled in, and then some of the, were red in the middle. My laptop was reeeaaally loud at this point. But then, the power cable went out, and I've had this problem where the laptop loses connection to battery, and it went. So then, my laptop went off. And now when I tried to switch it back on, what happens is the power button lights up, three buttons on the right light up momentarily. But the screen stays black. So then the only things indicating it's 'on' is the power button, and the three lights on the bottom of the laptop, which I have no idea of purpose. Also, my laptop is very very quiet at this point. Anyway, yeah, I've taken battery out, charger out, both out, left both out, put both in, that hasn't solved it.
I had been messing around with my playback devices (enabling/disabling) because I had tried using Skype. Originally, I had a problem where my skype calls were coming through my headphones (plugged into the headphone jack), but any other noise, coming through my laptop speakers. I sorted this by disabling my "communications headphones". And then now, I had a problem where I was in a skype call, when everything else stopped producing sound, bar the skype call. So I tried reopening my browser, but nothing, checked iTunes, and the music wasn't playing. So I thought it may have been the skype call. It wasn't, as I ended it, and still no noise was coming through. Then after a few minutes, there was a just this background noise coming through my headphones, like a fan. I noticed that it was coming out of my headphones when plugged in, but also my speakers when unplugged. Also, when I muted sound, the noise stopped, so I thought that may hint at where this problem may occur.
I am facing a severe problem of sudden crashing of windows and restart of window.............after restart it shows the message that window is recovered from unexpected shut down.

From last 2 days, I have seen that my laptop 3521 Dell doesn't switch on at all. Second thing I have observed is that, when I have my charger connected to the plug point (not connected to the laptop), I see the green light on the charger as ON, but the moment I connect it to the laptop, the light from the charger turns OFF and ultimately, my laptop doesn't charge. I mean no power supplied.
The steps I have carried over so far are -
1) I have tried checking the laptop battery by taking it out and reputing it in the laptop and trying to see if it works, same problem.
2) I have tried checking if everything is okay with the charger, but still the same problem.
I am using dell inspiron N5040 laptop from last 1.5 years. from last 2 months suddenly its going to blank screen. There is no sound at that time.

If I turn the laptop off by going: Start, turn off, the display turns off but I can hear the fans still running. The only to turn it off is to hold down the power button.
Also if I shut my laptop lid the screen turns off but once again the fans are still running(doesn't go into to sleep mode). If I then re-open my laptop the display doesn't turn back on I have to hold the power button and then turn it back on.
I tried to update bios in Inspiron N5110 but laptop freezed in the middle of update so I had to remove the battery to turn it off.
Now it won't turn on and just it makes three beeps and nothing else. how I can turn it on again?
Whenever i turn on my laptop(DELL ispiron N5110), my system gives 5 continuous beeps thrice, i don't know the reason and what kind of failure it may be indicating. Few days back it was showing blank screen for a short duration when i turned it on.

They blinked for about 2-3 seconds and stopped. Now, I'm considering switching MBR to GPT, I'm 99% sure that my pc supports UEFI and that it will work fine. In order to do that I must clean my whole hdd, that's not really problem because I have backup. What bothers me is this.
There were few extra partitions on my HDD, 350 (empty) partition with no label (it's not windows system reserved) , 3GB partition with label OS. They were put there by Dell.
Now, considering that I have to Clean my hard disk using Diskpart, and this partitions will be removed, will I lose something? Some BIOS functionality or something like that? Is it safe to just wipe them out?

Neither with F2 nor F12.

Did the switching for testing another OS.

Acer here. It's an older 8920g, but it has a 18.4inch screen and an Nvidia 9500 GS card
Basically here's how it goes:
Laptop unplugged, full battery or near full, placed on a bed (you can see where this is going), playing emulator games
Later, it suddenly turns off.
Upon trying to turn it back straight away, the laptop turns on, but only a blank screen is present.
I recommended to leave laptop off for 2 odd hours. Tried again after 2 hours, same result.
I got hold of the laptop now, basically it turns on, then suddenly flicks off and then back on again, and does.... nothing. The audio/media pad responds though (i.e. hold and mute button is responsive). I tried to take out the battery and turn it on, nothing.
Then I put the battery back in and turn it on, same result. Screen remains black throughout all scenarios.
I have HP Pavilion g6-2288sx Notebook PC. It has core i3 processor with 4gb ram.
My problem is that my laptop suddenly powers off while running, not hibernating - total shutdown without any error or warning or anything. It just goes blank and dont turn on again until i connect it with its charger. Low battery is not the problem cause it doesnt give low battery error even battery sign shows that i have enough battery to work about next 30 mins.
I have a 1 year old HP Probook 4540s that recently has the following problem.
When unplugged the laptop suddenly shuts down even tough the battery shows 29% still remaining.
I receive no notification from Windows or anything, it just shut downs like when the battery reaches 0%.
Then in order to start it again, I need to plug it in.
I previously didn't have any battery problems and running the HP Assistant informs me that the battery is ok and it doesn't need replacements. Basically the laptop is dead at 28%-29% battery life.
i got my new dv5 last night and ive got a problem. The first time it happened was when i tried to make one of those back up DVD's, i open the disc recovery manager, and the computer suddenly logs off, and im reverted back to the welcome screen where i need to click my name to log back in. Every program that was running simply dissapears. I was like 'crap... i guess i cant make any back up discs'. But then it happened again when i tried to install WinRAR, it was corrupted becuase i copied the files from another computer and after i press ok in the error box it does the same thing.. 3 times i had to re-download a file i was downloading at that time. I guess it only happens when theres an error. I immediatly uninstalled norton and most of the bloatware so it cant be due to that. So now im paranoid about opening any file hoping that it wouldnt log off like that suddenly and lose my work.

I feel it was something from inside hardware because it is not turning on by pushing on button and tried to charge him but charging light did not on but adapter light was on that means adapter is fine. Since then it hasn't worked for longer than 15-20 minutes without shutting down suddenly. I dont think its overheating as it never feels very hot. Ive tried unplugging it, taking out the battery and holding down the power button for thirty seconds but that achieved nothing. But from week whenever i play a game it shuts down in 10 min .Later i tried few suggestions from dell forums on overheating and found that the laptop runs fine on battery and as soon i plug in the adapter it turns off in 10 min .I checked if it is a overheating problem and found the cores temp at around 60 degrees celsius when idle and it crosses 100 when i play games plugged in and around 95 degrees on battery.
I then checked if its due to dust but everything is clean and i use a cooling pad so this is quite abnormal.
I have all the updated drivers and bios, fresh installed windows again, so what to do...
