View 1 RepliesI was performing a BIOS update on Dell Inspiron N5110 to Latest bios version,  when the laptop became inactive plus the fan started to run at full speed. i could not even switch off the machine by pressing the power button. At the end i had to pull out AC cord and battery. Now its dead(No activity at all). how can i restore bios???
View 9 Replies View RelatedI tried to update bios in Inspiron N5110 but laptop freezed in the middle of update so I had to remove the battery to turn it off.
Now it won't turn on and just it makes three beeps and nothing else. how I can turn it on again?
Im using Acer Aspire 4520. Now my laptop have dead because im update the BIOS firmware on windows vista platform. On 8% progress its 'hang' now i'm can using my laptop.
the many solution i have try on this forum. not done.
FYI on my procedure
1- Run the Phoenix Crisis Disk -> Format the floppy procedure.
2- Open the Acer BIOS from website -> I get the Z03_3626.wph file then rename to bios.wph
3- Copy the bios.wph to Floppy drive
4- Insert the USB floppy to my laptop then remove the battery, hold the FN + ESC button, plug in power then press power button
5- I hear the floppy drive reading on 3minutes then after 3minutes the floopy drive stop and i release the holding FN + ESC button
6- waiting about 20 minutes nothing happen.
so what i want to do...? i think this is right procedure because it reading the floopy drive long about 3minutes. If i try burn the CD procedure nothing happen (can read), then try rename to .fd it not read.
I have downloaded the current BIOS for the N5110 to upgrade for a Windows 8 upgrade. However, this may sound rather trite but I cannot find any explicit instructions on how to perform the BIOS update. even pointing me to a process procedure that has been written to follow.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just install Windows 8 in my laptop. But display did not came. so I attached my 32 inch Lcd TV with laptop and trying to update BIOS from A09 to A11. suddenly it hanged up. I restart my computer. but now its black screen. nothing else.what to do?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an Inspiron 17R SE 7720 running Windows 7 64-bit Pro which has been working fine, but I was thinking about getting an mSata flash drive to cache the hard disk, and reading on this forum discovered that my A01 bios version wasn't up to the job, so tried to update the bios tonight.
I downloaded the 7720A12.exe from the Dell site but wanted to backup my bios first. Again searching this forum, I saw a post that said there was a backup option when running the exe. Wrong.
Running it from within windows it immediately said it was going to reboot (I wasn't given an option!). My laptop powered down as if doing a restart, but immediately hung.Â
There was nothing but blackness on the screen, no text, no beeps. It appeared to be stuck in a boot cycle, as the screen back light was coming on, and off, and on, and off etc, for 10 minutes straight.Â
I powered down and powered up and I get the dell logo and can enter the bios setup, but after that, no matter what I do, I get a dos based "BOOT MENU" with just these options on:
Network Boot <- does nothing except messes up the display of this menu Setup <- loads the bios settings Diagnostics <- runs a diagnostic program which tests the hardware and reports all tests pass Change boot mode setting <- does nothing except messes up the display of this menu
I can't get passed this menu.
I've tried booting from a DVD - both a Windows 7 installation disk, and the Dell recovery DVD I created when I first got the laptop, neither DVD boots, and apart from buzzing the DVD drive, don't have any effect at all.Â
Both disks have been tested in another Inspiron laptop I have, and I also set the boot priority order in the bios so that DVD is the first item in the list.
I've also tried a bootable USB stick, but no joy there either. The light on the stick shows it's being accessed, but I still end up at the Boot Menu above.
I have inspiron N5110 . I recently upgraded my bios version from A9 to A11(to solve the Win 8 black screen problem) . But unfortunately the battery timing is reduced to 2 hours only . before that it was nearly 4 hours. I switched back to windows 7 and i want to get that bios version back..

View 8 Replies View RelatedStudio 1555 dead after trying to update bios from A8 to A9
So today I found that Dell had an update for the current A8 BIOS on the Studio 1555 that I bought in May of 2009. Just a quick comment, I have had nothing but problems with this laptop. I got it with VISTA 64bit, which you all know sucks balls!!!! So once Win7 came out I bought a 500gb HD and Win7 Ult. 64bit, but as I said, it doesn't seem to be just one thing, its the blue tooth, or the network card, or explorer keeps crashing and restarting by itself constantly, especially yesterday. Plus I've been trying to use this laptop as a dual boot with Ubuntu and Win 7.
So I found the BIOS update today, DL it and closed everything and then started the update. Says its going trough sectors and there are 39 of them, when it got to #20 the thing just stops, everything then freezes after trying to open a new window, ctrl-alt-delete doesn't work, nothing works. So I take the battery out and then of course I go to turn it back on and its dead or bricked or what ever you want to call a $1300 piece of on my coffee table.
So after that I found that a few other people have had the same problem and some people haven't, but I have yet to find someone who has fixed it. So I brought up the ol' Dell Chat support and of course they tell me"oh my supervisor says that your hard drive and mother board are dead now".....!!!!!! I asked how that can be with something they post and let the end user install, now my computers dead, I'm supposed to wait a few days for a tech to call me a schedule an appt. to come to my home and replace the "motherboard and hard drive" according to the chat support.
First of all I am about to smash this thing with a freaking hammer, I have been with PCs forever and when I was looking to buy a laptop, my wife said, don't buy another PC, all you do is spend days and days at your desktop when something goes wrong with windows, she of course is a MAC person and has always used them, but I said "oh no hun, this new Win7 is going to be great and Dell have great laptops" Holy on a shingle I was totally wrong and I will never buy another PC, it will be Macs from now on once I get a chance to buy a new laptop or desktop. But anyway, since Dell has about the test customer service I have ever experienced, I decided to post my conversation with the person from dell....enjoy, and by the way..... DO NOT INSTALL DELL STUDIO BIOS UPDATE A8 TO A9, YOUR COMPUTER WILL DIE.....I'm only kind of lucky since the computer is less than a year old and I have 2 years of onsite service if I need it. So anyway, here is my conversatation, take it as you will, but I would be very wary with this whole thing and Dell laptops in general, Dell, your company used to be all over the news and mags. because you were made by a smart guy who liked computers and wanted to give people what they really wanted when they needed to buy a new computer. Well I can tell you that ever since Dell came about as a company, all of that flash and glitter about their company, computers and people has faded so badly, these things might as well be sold in a vending machine, you think that when you spend $1300 you will get something really good. What a crock of crap...forget you dell, this thing is being sold ASAP after it is fixed......oh yeah heres my conversation for all you other dell studio 1555 people who need help or ammo in case their crappy customer service doesn't help you.
please for the sake of all of us, if you can and are willing, please read the doc I attached to this post which is the chat log between me and the Dell support person....we are all going to need help with this at some point if a simple BIOS update that is made to run in windows kills are computers!

I updated the BIOS via bootable DOS Fdd after reading things here and knowning that it was not possible via x64 Vista.
Update finished and notebook shutdown, not restart.
Now it will not turn on.
No lights with power adapter or battery.
I have tried the "crisis" disk method. holding fn+esc.
Tried power in and holding Insert.
I've tried with and with out battery/power adapter.
Opened and bridged the clear-cmos for 30 seconds.
Reseated RAM and CPU.
Tried all of this with 1gb, 2gb 3gb and 4gb.
but alas she is still in a coma.......
I have tried Acer support for help but they want it sent to them, I want to avoid this if I can.
Can a failed BIOS really kill a notebook?
I upgraded my RAM to 4gb and installed Vista x64 Home Premium. the system was only showing 3gb on start up so I updated BIOS to 3.50 via DOS as it can not be done inside Vista x64.
Bios update completed and notebook shutdown.
Now no power in notebook.
No lights on when connected via Power adapter or battery.
system will not turn on.
Downloaded and tried the crisis disk to reset the BIOS and still nothing.
Hp update popped up on my DV5t-1000 and asked me if I want to update the bios version. I downloaded it, but while the installation an error occurred and it dumped all the memory to the hard drive. After a restart, it does not even show the hp logo only a black screen. All the led lights are on not blinking.

It has vista home premium preinstalled. Lately I installed Xp on it (Ive done it many times before because its faster) The only thing is that with Xp it shutsdown after some time, 'cuase of the heat. So I thought I'll update the BIOS. It went well but then IT shutsdown! I was afraid of this but it happened. Now my Lap won't boot, nothing comes up, not even a sound! BTW I downloaded the bios of dv6880ev. Why the heck is the laptop model dv6700 and service tag is dv6880ev?!!?!
I start the laptop up and it freezes at the HP logo screen. Only the ESC key works (Press <ESC> to enable startup message) if i press it fast enough and if i push the F10(BIOS SETUP) key it just hangs at "Please Wait"

How it started: I updated the bios of my Laptop from Version F.57 to F.58(Latest). After the laptop shutdown, I immediatly turned it back on. Maybe its because i didn't give it a few seconds to power on by itself?
What I already tried:
-Removing CMOS, ram, HDD wait half an hour and power on again.
-This guide which does not work because HDD is formatted: Recovering the notebook BIOS using a key press combination
-The Phoenix tool procedure found here
How to use the HP BIOS update (uefi) utility
What I want to try but don't know how!
-Creating a new partition on the hard disk(HP_TOOLS) to trick the system that I have the old BIOS and maybe recover using the WIN+B combination?
how to flash the bios of a Acer Aspire 6530 without being in windows.
I download the bios update and opened to see how it worked and then accidently shut the zip file that it was in and it crashed, computer froze and now it wont work!
It load the boot screen and even windows but crashes after mup.sys and brings up an error screen about problems with computer and shuts down. I have tried reinstalling windows but when i get to the hard drive section the hard drive is not there although its there in the boot screen.
I have tried re installing the bios with the phoenix recovery tool but that didnt work.
Im guessing i need the Insydeflash tool and some special file name for the bios.
I have a Installed Windows 8 on my Dell Inpiron N5110 Laptop. It was working fine but since last 3 or 4days it is having some issue. Each time when i start my PC it shows me an error with blue screen which has written
KERNEL-SECURITy_CHECK_FAILURE
at last line of Error.
I tried Re Installing Windows 8 but still the same issue. Also tried Installing Windows 7 but When Windows 7 Installation Finishes the System Restarts and Shows a blue Purple (Dark Blue) saying Your System BIOS is not ACPI Compliant.
I have tried Installing Windows 7 and Windows 8 several time but still the issue persists.
I have a Dell Inspiron N5110. The Warranty ran out in July of last year so for some reason I cannot email technical support directly.I ran the Dell PC Diagnostic test earlier today, all of which passed with the exception of the SMART Short Self Test which failed. Apparently my hard drive is "operating outside of normal parameters and should be replaced". I tried this twice, once with the Dell diagnostic software installed on my laptop and once using the downloadable diagnostics from the Dell website, both had the same outcome. Â
I then tried the system diagnostics accessed via the F12 key on system startup. Again all passed but the hard drive test which would not run and provided the following message:
Error code 2000-0142
validation 12985
Msg Hard Drive 0 s/n (omitted), self test unsuccessful status = 7
I have read around on the support forums that the next step to try is removing and replacing the hard drive then re-running the diagnostics. If this does not solve the issue and I have to replace the hard drive does that mean I will need to buy a new copy of windows to install on the hard drive, as my laptop came with no disks? I have backed up all my important files but obviously not any programs.
what my next steps would be and what the process is should I have to replace my hard drive? I am a "noob" in this area and don't want to spending uneccassary money on parts that don't need to be replaced or buying software I don't need to replace as it is already available if you see what I mean?Â
I have a two year old 5633WLMI (Nvidia graphics) Upgraded the RAM to 4gb only to find that 3gb was being shown in BIOS and Vista 32/64.
Downloaded the latest BIOS update from Acer, (v3.50) updated via Dos - Boot USB pen drive, haflway through updating it turned off, now DEAD, no power/lights/screen - tried silent/forced BIOS update but failed due to no power to board.
I contacted Acer, who were not that helpful to be honest, who told me to contact my local service centre (São Paulo, Brazil) again they were not to helpful. so I'm now sat here with an expensive paperweight.
Fairly sure the MBD has fried, so, How on earth do I get one to me to fit?
every site I've seen requires you to send the old to them but they won't ship to brazil or are incredibily expensive.
I have a dv7-3021ea that will not switch on after an hp update for the BIOS applied and failed.
Â
When powered on, there is the two blinks from LEDs indicating BIOS corruption.
Â
I have tried the WIN-B BIOS recovery but the laptop has a quick think, then powers off and reboots to two blinks so I assume the HP_TOOLS partition is not working.
Â
I have downloaded the BIOS updates from hp support, both f.13 and f.12 versions but when I attempt to run these on another computer (to try and create a BIOS USB stick), I get the error "InsydeFlash can not load the driver. Please close all applications. If you are running this utility in Windows 7, please run as an administrator". I have closed all apps, am using Win7 and have run as admin, is this because the computer I am running on is not a dv7-3021ea? If so, how do I proceed to create the USB recovery media?
After the latest system update from Lenovo System update, my laptop T530 doesn't do a successful cold boot. A warm successive boot (with interruptible boot screen) works fine.
Â
But cold boot always fails and the system powers down in less than 5s. This is seen after the BIOS updated to 2.59.1.12. restore to older version of BIOS(downgrade it)?
1. cant trust windows for bios update
2. dont flash the bios unless told so by a qualified tech or acer
3. cant reflash/install orig bios via usb thumb drive
4. one option is to take back to acer and get slugged $$$ cos not covered
by warranty.
5. second option is to take bios chip out and have it reflashed.
6. third option is to buy a new bios chip.
7. fourth option i to buy a new motherboard

If I turn the laptop off by going: Start, turn off, the display turns off but I can hear the fans still running. The only to turn it off is to hold down the power button.
Also if I shut my laptop lid the screen turns off but once again the fans are still running(doesn't go into to sleep mode). If I then re-open my laptop the display doesn't turn back on I have to hold the power button and then turn it back on.
