I have a two year old 5633WLMI (Nvidia graphics) Upgraded the RAM to 4gb only to find that 3gb was being shown in BIOS and Vista 32/64.
Downloaded the latest BIOS update from Acer, (v3.50) updated via Dos - Boot USB pen drive, haflway through updating it turned off, now DEAD, no power/lights/screen - tried silent/forced BIOS update but failed due to no power to board.
I contacted Acer, who were not that helpful to be honest, who told me to contact my local service centre (São Paulo, Brazil) again they were not to helpful. so I'm now sat here with an expensive paperweight.
Fairly sure the MBD has fried, so, How on earth do I get one to me to fit?
every site I've seen requires you to send the old to them but they won't ship to brazil or are incredibily expensive.
I attempted to update the BIOS in my Acer Aspire 5315 laptop to no avail, the winbios program froze straight away, while erasing the BIOS I think. So since then I havn't been able to start the laptop, no fans, but does blink a red LED beside the little light icon when left for longer than 10 seconds or so when you press the power button. I've tried the fn+esc method to boot it to flash the bios but nothing at all, tried it with USB and CD-ROM. I've tried removing all the hardware and starting it, I've also tried resetting the CMOS, still no luck.
I'm thinking that the red LED might be a little indicator of hope, or is it maybe the capacitor filling up
how to flash the bios of a Acer Aspire 6530 without being in windows.
I download the bios update and opened to see how it worked and then accidently shut the zip file that it was in and it crashed, computer froze and now it wont work!
It load the boot screen and even windows but crashes after mup.sys and brings up an error screen about problems with computer and shuts down. I have tried reinstalling windows but when i get to the hard drive section the hard drive is not there although its there in the boot screen.
I have tried re installing the bios with the phoenix recovery tool but that didnt work.
Im guessing i need the Insydeflash tool and some special file name for the bios.
Im using Acer Aspire 4520. Now my laptop have dead because im update the BIOS firmware on windows vista platform. On 8% progress its 'hang' now i'm can using my laptop.

FYI on my procedure
1- Run the Phoenix Crisis Disk -> Format the floppy procedure. 2- Open the Acer BIOS from website -> I get the Z03_3626.wph file then rename to bios.wph 3- Copy the bios.wph to Floppy drive 4- Insert the USB floppy to my laptop then remove the battery, hold the FN + ESC button, plug in power then press power button 5- I hear the floppy drive reading on 3minutes then after 3minutes the floopy drive stop and i release the holding FN + ESC button 6- waiting about 20 minutes nothing happen.
so what i want to do...? i think this is right procedure because it reading the floopy drive long about 3minutes. If i try burn the CD procedure nothing happen (can read), then try rename to .fd it not read.
i have a sony vaio vgn-ns290j laptop and i was told I needed to do a bios update..well i downloaded the bios driver from the sony website..started doing the update..and mid way through the laptop blue screened. Now when I go to turn it on it gets power but does not post..Is there a way I can reset it back to the default..?? why does sony offer a driver that bricks your motherboard?
Studio 1555 dead after trying to update bios from A8 to A9
So today I found that Dell had an update for the current A8 BIOS on the Studio 1555 that I bought in May of 2009. Just a quick comment, I have had nothing but problems with this laptop. I got it with VISTA 64bit, which you all know sucks balls!!!! So once Win7 came out I bought a 500gb HD and Win7 Ult. 64bit, but as I said, it doesn't seem to be just one thing, its the blue tooth, or the network card, or explorer keeps crashing and restarting by itself constantly, especially yesterday. Plus I've been trying to use this laptop as a dual boot with Ubuntu and Win 7.
So I found the BIOS update today, DL it and closed everything and then started the update. Says its going trough sectors and there are 39 of them, when it got to #20 the thing just stops, everything then freezes after trying to open a new window, ctrl-alt-delete doesn't work, nothing works. So I take the battery out and then of course I go to turn it back on and its dead or bricked or what ever you want to call a $1300 piece of on my coffee table.
So after that I found that a few other people have had the same problem and some people haven't, but I have yet to find someone who has fixed it. So I brought up the ol' Dell Chat support and of course they tell me"oh my supervisor says that your hard drive and mother board are dead now".....!!!!!! I asked how that can be with something they post and let the end user install, now my computers dead, I'm supposed to wait a few days for a tech to call me a schedule an appt. to come to my home and replace the "motherboard and hard drive" according to the chat support.
First of all I am about to smash this thing with a freaking hammer, I have been with PCs forever and when I was looking to buy a laptop, my wife said, don't buy another PC, all you do is spend days and days at your desktop when something goes wrong with windows, she of course is a MAC person and has always used them, but I said "oh no hun, this new Win7 is going to be great and Dell have great laptops" Holy on a shingle I was totally wrong and I will never buy another PC, it will be Macs from now on once I get a chance to buy a new laptop or desktop. But anyway, since Dell has about the test customer service I have ever experienced, I decided to post my conversation with the person from dell....enjoy, and by the way..... DO NOT INSTALL DELL STUDIO BIOS UPDATE A8 TO A9, YOUR COMPUTER WILL DIE.....I'm only kind of lucky since the computer is less than a year old and I have 2 years of onsite service if I need it. So anyway, here is my conversatation, take it as you will, but I would be very wary with this whole thing and Dell laptops in general, Dell, your company used to be all over the news and mags. because you were made by a smart guy who liked computers and wanted to give people what they really wanted when they needed to buy a new computer. Well I can tell you that ever since Dell came about as a company, all of that flash and glitter about their company, computers and people has faded so badly, these things might as well be sold in a vending machine, you think that when you spend $1300 you will get something really good. What a crock of crap...forget you dell, this thing is being sold ASAP after it is fixed......oh yeah heres my conversation for all you other dell studio 1555 people who need help or ammo in case their crappy customer service doesn't help you.

My laptop is Dell studio xps 16. i try to update bios from A11 to A12 and my laptop was crash during this update. and now my laptop can't boot to win. how to recovery bios of this laptop?
I updated my friends system to the f.20 bios - and it now comes up that the bios update did not succeed, and then it restarts.  This is an endless loop - which never lets me boot into windows - so I cannot go back to a previous version of the BIOS.  I have been reading around the forums and discovered a method to try an emergency recovery by getting the rompaq bios and holding down the Windows Key + B when I turn on the system.  Just bought an external USB Floppy drive to try this emergency recovery. I tried the USB - but it wouldn't work. I am getting different results here - but not what I want.  With the USB Floppy plugged in: When I hold down Win+B - the caps light flashes for a lot longer now, it looks like it initializes the floppy drive (green light comes on for just a moment) - but then nothing - just flashing caps lock for a bit and then finally a restart again into the doom loop. It never appears to begin to read the floppy disk or search for a bios file.  What am I doing wrong? What can I try? Does the disk need to be leabeled a certain way? Does my BIOS file need to be renamed?
During updating BIOS with this i have error "BIOS update failed! Image verification failed. Error code -200" and laptop was frozen, keyboard and touchpad doesn't respond. After 30 min i remove AC and battery from my laptop and try to power on again, but dell not respond.Â
I get the error in the Title after i tried to flash the latest BIOS update for the Z510. I can press ok and then get into the boot manager but i cant choose anything there. Also I cant boot from a Disk with e.g. XP on it.  I also tried the Inside BIOS crisis mode (fn+r) with the BIOS file on my USB drive but it doesn't work and tries to access the file on the USB drive but boots normally instead to the error again. (Couldn't try it with removed battery as I have to remove the whole back to remove the battery on the Z510).
I have an ACER Aspire 5670. Recently i installed windows vista business.
From the day i installed vista my battery appears to be broken.
Ok let's say battery cells were destroyed (Fedora installed on the same system report that battery may be dammaged)-So it may be destroyed in a couple of hours.
The second weird thing is that it persists not to recognize one device. In the device manager it has a hardware ID: ACPISMCB000
Third weird story. Today my notebook prompted that there was SP1 update available. I installed it (in 3 phases - 2together at shutdown and 1 after restart)
After SP update my keyboard stopped working - same thing with touchpad. I uninstalled SP1, uninstalled synaptics driver and re-installed it - same thing.
In a forum somewhere i read that battery causes these problems. I took battery off and now i am writing this message from my notebook's keybord ... touchpad still dead...
both keyboard and touchpad work perfectly in Fedora 9 and that usb mouse/keyboard work perfect too in Vista.
can someone confirm for me that this laptop is bluetooth enabled. I have been trying all night to connect my nokia phone to my laptop via bluetooth with no joy. I have windows vista 32 bit
I bought the above laptop over a year ago with Vista Home Premium installed, with the usual partition including the recovery software. Did I make my recovery discs? No, I did not and subsequently had a hard drive failure that resulted in the partition being lost too. I managed to put an old copy of XP on which has been fine upto now. I just bought an xbox and want to put vista on my computer so I can use the Windows media centre. Is there any other way I can get the recovery software without using Acer directly?
i jsut DL'd the CL50134_Winflash.zip from acers website to try and fix some issues i've found this can fix, i extracted it, shutdown all apps i could, hit start or run and up popped an error message.. system froze... sat there for about 30+ min (i was freakin the whole time) and nothing didn't move.. didn't budge... my screen saver popped on but before that it hadn't moved an inch... can't toggle capslock or numlock.. can't even get rid of the screen saver now.... i shut the system down (the bad way) and now nothing.. can't get it to turn on at all....
I have an ACER Aspire 5520, (model ICW50) with AMD Turion TK55. I tried to upgrade it with the BIOS available under the model's specified page in ACER site, version 1.33 (IC50133.WPH).
Unfortunately I was naive enough to try flash32.exe, which is the windows base version of the flashing program; now I have a dead BIOS. Windows froze completely, I had to unplug and disconnect battery to have it down, and it never came up.
Then I did a lot of research and I found and browsed hundreds of pages about Crisis Recovery Mode (CRM). From all I read there are some misconceptions I want to get past:
1 - Deal with different CRM versions, which get accessed by Fn+B, or Winkey+B; on my case I have found that CRM gets accessed with Fn+Esc. I know it, because instead of powering up and then dying in 3 or 4 seconds on an eternal loop, when I press and hold Fn+Esc and then I connect the power adapter (with battery disconnected), I get a quick orange flash under the power button. So, when I press the power button the computer keeps running, fan is running, and it is checking HD and CD-ROM drives.
2 - There is a lot of myth about the way one has to press and hold Fn+Esc. You just have to press it before you connect the power cable. As long as you get the quick orange flash under the power button, you know the PC is in CRM. I have done all the fancy combinations of holding those keys down, but it all ends up in the same. By the way, even if you connect the battery, instead of the power adapter, once you are holding Fn+Esc it gives the same result: orange flash, you are in CRM. Of course you do not want to flash it using the battery, that's why the emphasis on connecting the power adaptor instead.
3 - Most of the info I found about this matter then turns to building the Crisis Recovery Disk (a floppy) or a CR pendrive. It does not solve my problem because when in CRM, the computer completely ignores the USB ports, the 4 of them, I tried one by one, be it with 2 different kinds of USB floppy drives, or pendrives duly formatted in FAT. There is no blinking of light on either. There is no attempt at all to access any of the USB ports......................
I have an Acer Aspire 5310 laptop which appears to have a dead bios and i'm hoping someone can help me bring it back to life.
Although I'm not a complete novice with computers i have always avoided messing with things like the bios etc... so i'm struggling a little on what some of you would consider basic steps.
The Laptop powers on, the fan spins for a few seconds and the hard disk light comes on..... I've followed several threads on different forums which have led me to believe that it is the bios.
If i remove the battery, press and hold the fn + Esc keys and then plug in the ac adapter, the power light flashes orange for a second. While continuing to hold fn + Esc, if i press the power button the fan spins constantly and slightly louder than before... but nothing else happens???
I've tried to follow steps to flash the bios using a usb stick and the bios versions 1.50 from the acer website but to no avail.
I have an acer aspire 1652WLMi with ATI MObility RADEON X300 PCI-Express.
I updated my bios with the file "3A45 for ATI M22, M24 and M26" and... its wrong. The laptop is dead. The screen is always black when I tur the laptop on.
Does any body here can help me to recover or flash my old bios or a new one working?
Yesterday, I've been told by an Acer representative that I should upgrade my BIOS as soon as I mentioned slowdown.
So I decided to upgrade with the BIOS from the site at Acer PanAm.
As soon as it said it was making a backup of the BIOS I previously had, it blacked out and turned off. Upon boot, my screen was black, my LEDs were flashing despite the only keys working were Caps and NumLock; and pressing the power button once would turn it off.
So then, as I thought Google was my friend, I searched for guides on how to do a BIOS recovery. Thing is, I don't remember my BIOS version, and I needed to go buy a USB floppy drive to do the Crisis Recovery Disk method. So I managed to buy one for $15, and tried the Fn+Esc solution correctly and endlessly with many BIOS versions, but to no avail.
Also, the laptop had to be downgraded to XP, as when it was previously a Vista with only 766MB of RAM, I couldn't do jack with it without slowing down like an elderly person on Ritalin. Maybe this has something to do with Acer's BIOS being Vista-only?
I suck with computers, so I dunno. I've been told I should change my BIOS chip.
I'm sorta afraid to update my BIOS since i'm planning on getting a Core 2 duo sometime. Acer Aspire 5135, and im trying to update to 1.33....what are the risks exactly? Or am i being paranoid...
I have a new Inspiron 15 3521. I tried to update to Windows 8.1 several times. It downloads to 50% and then says Installing for a few seconds and then Getting PC Ready for a few seconds then it starts downloading again. Steps taken so far
1. I ran Windows Update and the Intel Storage Controller 7 Series Controller needed to be updated. The update failed.Â
2. I went to Dell's Driver Support site and it detected the same driver needed to be updated. I ran the update and it installed successfully. I restarted the PC. I ran the Dell driver update again just to be sure and it said it needed to be update. I tried it 3 times and every time it said success but it never updated.
3. Downloaded driver from Dell and tried to install from Device Manager. It said the driver was up to date.
I googled this and it appears to be a common problem but no solution was stated. Surely others are having this issue.
im trying to update my BIOS on my 8930G from 1.10 to 1.13 (or maybe even 1.14). Im only doing this as id like to enable VT but the only info i can find is related to 1.13.
Now ive downloaded the BIOS package from Acer and have tried to run the Insyde flash utility (x64 on Win7) but it wont install. After a few seconds it comes up with;
'BIOS not for your notebook'
In the Insyde application window i can can see the following info;
Current BIOS ID - 8930 & Version V1.13 New BIOS ID - KM2/TT2 & Version V1.14
Does anyone know if there is a motherboard bios update for the 5920G? Is there anything for the 8600M? Any info would be a great help. Mine is a US model, purchased at Best Buy. Has the T5250 @ 1.5. Is there a way to upgrade the wifi from a/b/g to one with n?
