SOME UPDATES COULD NOT BE INSTALLED
The following updates were not installed:
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 Security Update for Windows 2000,
Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2 (KB953297)
I have a new Inspiron 15 3521. I tried to update to Windows 8.1 several times. It downloads to 50% and then says Installing for a few seconds and then Getting PC Ready for a few seconds then it starts downloading again. Steps taken so far
1. I ran Windows Update and the Intel Storage Controller 7 Series Controller needed to be updated. The update failed.Â
2. I went to Dell's Driver Support site and it detected the same driver needed to be updated. I ran the update and it installed successfully. I restarted the PC. I ran the Dell driver update again just to be sure and it said it needed to be update. I tried it 3 times and every time it said success but it never updated.
3. Downloaded driver from Dell and tried to install from Device Manager. It said the driver was up to date.
I googled this and it appears to be a common problem but no solution was stated. Surely others are having this issue.
I get the "failed configuring windows updates reverting changes" message when i try to update my computer, how can i make sure that the updates go through?

2. dont flash the bios unless told so by a qualified tech or acer
3. cant reflash/install orig bios via usb thumb drive
4. one option is to take back to acer and get slugged $$$ cos not covered
by warranty.
5. second option is to take bios chip out and have it reflashed.
6. third option is to buy a new bios chip.
7. fourth option i to buy a new motherboard

i have a sony vaio vgn-ns290j laptop and i was told I needed to do a bios update..well i downloaded the bios driver from the sony website..started doing the update..and mid way through the laptop blue screened. Now when I go to turn it on it gets power but does not post..Is there a way I can reset it back to the default..?? why does sony offer a driver that bricks your motherboard?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've just tried downloading and installing the latest bios update for my XPS 13 laptop, update 3360A18.
When I run the update, from inside Win 7 x64, I get a "ERROR 242 - This is not a valid supported system!"
During updating BIOS with this i have error "BIOS update failed! Image verification failed. Error code -200" and laptop was frozen, keyboard and touchpad doesn't respond. After 30 min i remove AC and battery from my laptop and try to power on again, but dell not respond.Â
What can I do now?
I have a two year old 5633WLMI (Nvidia graphics) Upgraded the RAM to 4gb only to find that 3gb was being shown in BIOS and Vista 32/64.
Downloaded the latest BIOS update from Acer, (v3.50) updated via Dos - Boot USB pen drive, haflway through updating it turned off, now DEAD, no power/lights/screen - tried silent/forced BIOS update but failed due to no power to board.
I contacted Acer, who were not that helpful to be honest, who told me to contact my local service centre (São Paulo, Brazil) again they were not to helpful. so I'm now sat here with an expensive paperweight.
Fairly sure the MBD has fried, so, How on earth do I get one to me to fit?
every site I've seen requires you to send the old to them but they won't ship to brazil or are incredibily expensive.
I attempted to update the BIOS in my Acer Aspire 5315 laptop to no avail, the winbios program froze straight away, while erasing the BIOS I think. So since then I havn't been able to start the laptop, no fans, but does blink a red LED beside the little light icon when left for longer than 10 seconds or so when you press the power button. I've tried the fn+esc method to boot it to flash the bios but nothing at all, tried it with USB and CD-ROM. I've tried removing all the hardware and starting it, I've also tried resetting the CMOS, still no luck.
I'm thinking that the red LED might be a little indicator of hope, or is it maybe the capacitor filling up
How do I get this to install ? All the other updates were installed on the same day with out a problem.
I have tried some fixes posted on the MS site and none have worked so far.
I have a z710 with OEM win 8.1 installed.

This is an endless loop - which never lets me boot into windows - so I cannot go back to a previous version of the BIOS.

I have been reading around the forums and discovered a method to try an emergency recovery by getting the rompaq bios and holding down the Windows Key + B when I turn on the system.

Just bought an external USB Floppy drive to try this emergency recovery. I tried the USB - but it wouldn't work. I am getting different results here - but not what I want.

With the USB Floppy plugged in: When I hold down Win+B - the caps light flashes for a lot longer now, it looks like it initializes the floppy drive (green light comes on for just a moment) - but then nothing - just flashing caps lock for a bit and then finally a restart again into the doom loop. It never appears to begin to read the floppy disk or search for a bios file.

What am I doing wrong? What can I try? Does the disk need to be leabeled a certain way? Does my BIOS file need to be renamed?
I tried to update my bios to A07 -> A11 (the lastest). But the update failed. Ok. I just close the updater. I open Google Chrome, surf on the Internet etc. After 10 min, I shut off my Dell computer normaly. Now when I turn my MiniPC on, it just doesn't do anything... My hard drive doesn't starts. The screen stays black...

I also tried the Inside BIOS crisis mode (fn+r) with the BIOS file on my USB drive but it doesn't work and tries to access the file on the USB drive but boots normally instead to the error again. (Couldn't try it with removed battery as I have to remove the whole back to remove the battery on the Z510).
Every time I run the Client System Update tool and check for updates I get the error message "Check for updates failed"

Last week, I think it was last week, I did some Windows updates. Restarted. Came up with Windows Failed To Start.
So then yesterday I was uninstalling some games that I haven't played in awhile. Defraged after that. Restarted my computer. And it happened again Windows Failed To Start. Put my windows cd in. Got into Windows. After everything was loaded, I decided to restart again. Never uninstalled anything or deleted anything this time. Restarted.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWe have a Dell Laptop N7010 on windows 7 (bought Oct 2010) that started freezing up and is now giving the "Windows failed to Start" message. We have tried the two options:
Launch Startup Repair (recommended) and Start Windows Normally. Have tried to select each but no luck. The Startup Repair takes awhile but nothing happens and we are right back to this screen. Then, in reading other logs with this problem the suggestion was to run a diagnostics check.So, chose F12 and ran the Preboot System Assessment Build 4124 and then the Boot Diagnostic Utility Partition
The following errors appear:
Error Code 0F00:65D
Msg: Disk - DST Self-test Read Error
& also get
Error Code 0F00:133C
Msg: Disk - No suitable disk media is present
(This one was related to SATA DVD + RW...)
I then tried to select F8 to set the system back to factory settings but do not get anywhere. It seems the only options are F2 or F12.
I've had my Dell Inspiron 1545 for a couple of years and it ran fine until recently I noticed that I couldn't update ANYTHING, Itunes, adobe, java, AVG... ect. so when I looked into what could have cause this problem I noticed a lot of  the windows updates had failed, so of course I reran the updates and turned my computer off when it directed me too and no luck they still failed I need this computer for school or at least long enough for me to buy a new one.

I had made system recovery DVDs (Win7) when I first got it, so I replaced the hard drive and restored the system from the DVDs to the new hard drive. All went great, and Win 7 worked perfectly until I shut the system down (restarts work fine). After a shutdown, and upon startup, I get this error:

I have tried going in the bios and the system sees the new hard drive. I also tried all the Dell diagnostics (F12), and all passed, including the hard drive.Â
There is no option to "Repair" once I boot from the Recovery DVDs, only to restore the system completely, which I've done twice now with the same results.Â
It seems that the lack of a recovery partition on the new hard drive might be to blame? I don't know. I'm out of options at this point.
Windows 7 64bit on my T510 has died. When logging in, it hangs on the login screen forever. Windows recovery failed too. It ran for 8 hours and reported error (something like error in restoring a file and disk is full, though my C drive is half empty). After that all the Windows restoration points are gone. So I suppose I have to do factory reset.

My question is, I made two additional partitions on my hard drive using external tools, which store all of my data. So when I do factory reset, will these two partitions be overwritten? How I can recover the system while keeping all my data?
My YOGA 11 S came with Windows 8.0. I upgraded to Windows 8.0 Pro W - Media Center without an issue a few weeks ago. Today I have twice attempted to install the WIN 8.1 Upgrade from the Store. Both attempts failed and rolled it back to WIN 8 pro. It's a stock machine, no mods at all.

I've put the new HDD on it (tried even the same with a different HDD too), and started to instal WIN 7 64-bit from the recovery disks. I used to do it many times so far with different Lenovo laptops without any problems. But this time, a while before the end of the instalation (when processing the sdrivebackup.wim) it stops and comes with a statement: " the recovery process has been finished, please ...." (but I see that the progres bar is far awayfrom 100%) , and finishes the instalation, reboot the computer and it comes the screen with the statement from the Windows Boot Manager:

I read a lot about the ways to solve similar problems, but they don't work on my case. The strange thing is, that I can instal WIN 8 or WIN7 from regular Windows instalation disks (not from Lenovo recovery, but from normal universal Windows instalation disks).
As I told before, I tried it in 2 different HDD disks with the same effect. It looks that the recovery instalation stops before the end without instaling some files which are missing later during starting the system.
i have tried updating my computer (vista OS) with the latest updates (for security update). i tried twice (which had me restart, and i did), and both times they failed. why is this? this has happened before.

However each time after installing the update from the store and rebooting, I am greeted with the message that the update could not be installed, error number 0xC1900101 - 0x20017. I have installed all Windows Updates and also updated all Intel and NVidia divers. Uninstalling everything preinstalled by Dell did not change the result either. What else could I try?Â
