I tried to update my bios to A07 -> A11 (the lastest). But the update failed. Ok. I just close the updater. I open Google Chrome, surf on the Internet etc. After 10 min, I shut off my Dell computer normaly. Now when I turn my MiniPC on, it just doesn't do anything... My hard drive doesn't starts. Recently, my Blackbook has had some troubles when I close the lid. What happens is the light never starts pulsing, and the laptop gets really warm and the fan goes crazy. When I open the lid, the screen stays black. When I reboot it, It shows the grey screen, goes black for a sec, then restarts. I tried reseting the pram, but it didnt help.
View 10 Replies View RelatedYesterday when trying to "wake" my laptop from sleep mode, the screen stayed black but the cursor would move around. I tried restarting the computer by holding down the power button. The laptop starts up as normal - see the Dell logo and Windows logo, but then when the desktop would normally appear, it is just a black screen. Again, the white cursor shows and it moves around the black screen when I move the mouse - which leads me to believe it's not a screen issue. The keyboard also works because when I hit the CD Eject key, the door opened. I tried a few of the F12 and F8 options but it hasn't worked. I just need the computer to start up one more time so that I can move all of my files to an external hard drive.

From what I have read online you can flash the bios but the file I have downloaded on the Acer website does not match any of the tutorials I have read or watched.

Is it the Mother board or the Harddrive? Replaced screen due to vertical and horizontal lines in color. Computer worked normal at times. I thought it was fixed but then while doing a HP diagnostic program the computer said to shut down because the batttery situation might harm the computer . I tested the AC adapter. I installed a new battery and at first it was working again. I updated and scanned with AVG & Malwarebytes. Did another HP diagnostic and at one point was told to restart. It never lived again to this point.
All it does is light up the power light and W/LAN (F 12). Blue lights are on at times indicating Cap locks and number locks are engaged. I did do a complete factory restore before it came to this point and updated the bios (to F 37) and downloaded updates for chipsets and Graphics also.(after screen installed) The only thing it does now is make noises at startup and power indicator is lit now Light keeps cycling.(light off, light on) in ten second intervals.
I have laptop listed above. For the past 3 days I hasn't not been able to get it in. it sounds like its starting but the screen stays black. Recently installed antivirus on 01/01/2012 because I had some kind of worm/malware. Windows 7 is the OS. Cap lock light is on and "hp combo assistant" light is on constant no blinking. Don't know what to do.

My xps 1530 is about a year old. The hard drive has failed 3 times now. The first two times I got a bit of advance warning with blue screens and error messages. This time no warning.
Rebot and error message that hard drive can not be found. I tried reseating the drive a few times and nothing. I have the solid state hard drives.
Is this a problem of the hard drive or the lap top? Can I request a regular hard drive from dell this time?

In mid November 2012 my laptop Inspiron Midi 1012 (with window 7 starter) suddenly stopped booting up.
I press the power button and I get the Dell Inspiron page & loading bar where I can also select F2 for set up & F12 for boot options or simply wait for boot up
Another page will appear (if I just wait at the Dell Inspiron logo page with loading bar) saying windows did not shut down succesfully. If this was due to the system not responding, or if the system was shut down.... & ask me to select booting option between safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode prompt or start windows normally.
I tried selecting every mode but to no notable result the only things that happens is that the Microsoft Corporation logo appears with a loading bar for 2-3 seconds then the screen will turn back and only my white arrow will be visible on the screen. At this time, no keys & short cut keys will work. The light of my computer is till on, I can still see some luminosity on the black screen. I can move the arrow around on my screen. The black screen won't change if I let it be for minutes or hours, no windows will pop up if I put a usb memory stick or plug my external cd/dvd player in the usb outlet.
I tried to use a usb transfer cable between my tower pc & my laptop Inspiron Mini but it doesn't work since windows doesn't boot on my laptop.
I tried F12 (boot option) when my computer start & selected diagnostic but there is no error detected (in short & long diagnostic, test memory, test system). I also tried the other booting options but to no avail (hard drive, network, ...).

When I took it to the service center they told me the hard drive of the system might have failed leading to such error. I am still unsure is it due to hard disk failure? On the top of that I have many important working files stored in the system for which I could not able to take back up. Is there any way I can retrieve my files? When my 1012 is booting there is an alarm (beeping) before Windows comes up. Not a few beeps, but probably 50-100. What is this and how can it be mutted?
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy sister has an Inspiron Mini 1012 Netbook (Windows 7 starter etc etc) and I need to action a Factory Reset.
My issue is, there doesn't appear to be any option for F8 when the netbook boots up.
I've googled the issue & it appears many people have had this issue.
I've tried the simple F8 & F10 options, along with FN + F8 &/or F10, Ctrl +F8 &/or F10 etc etc.
I'm at my wits end with this now as it doesn't appear to enter the recovery option with any of these functions.
There is definitely a recovery partition to the netbook, and the most annoying thing of all.......
I actually managed to restore to factory settings on this netbook no more than 6 months ago!!!
my laptop has failed the hard drive diagnostic with an error code of 2000-0142, and looking here in the forum I see it means that I should replace the hard drive. That being said, I am not actually having any problems with my computer. I ran the f12 diagnostic after a routine scan notified me of a smart short test fail and it came up on the diagnostic as well. Does that mean that at any moment I would actually see something happen?

"Your drive indicates that a failure may be imminent. Backup all important files and replace drive."
The hard drive is SAMSUNG HM640JJ.
A couple of questiions please:
1. I take if that this is a legitimate error message as opposed to some system glitch.
2. If I buy another SAMSUNG HM640JJ drive how can transfer the data from the old to the new.
I'm trying to load a new hard drive for my Dell Studio 1557 LT due to the original failed. I've worked on many PCs and LTs before and loaded software so I know the basics and then some. Problem is, when the LT boots from the OS from an external dvd drive -Win 7 64 when it attempts a write to the hard drive at the same point in the installation every time it blue screens then reboots. I cannot capture the blue screen info due to the immediate reboot. I have tried many utilities and other hard drives but the LT wont let me write to the hd to load an OS. I tried loading a hd from another pc then install it into this LT, same results blue screen then reboot. Very strange as if the LT wont allow a new hard drive or OS to be loaded. I've been trying to get this loaded for a week now and have tried everything. The hd was even DoD low level formatted too. Is there s Dell disk I need to get it started ?

The dell support center PC Check showed my hard drive funnel seek test failed. Before I ran the PC check, the laptop flashed and shutdown. I restarted in safe mode and backed up all of my files, shut down the laptop again and restarted.
I am currently rebooting the laptop, and have inserted the Dell Diagnostics and utilities CD and testing my hard drive. the following error code keeps occurring..No additional sense information
