My laptop is booting properly. I can hear the windows start up sound. I can event browse the shared files from remote computer. But the monitor stays black.

Microsoft Word, McAfee, Excel), the screen fades to black, stays black for 2-3 seconds, then pops back up. It has happened at a few other times too, but I don't recall the specific circumstances. The symptoms:
-Screen stays black, also with an external monitor
-Fans goes on for a few secs like always
-Keyboard leds flashes one time
I removed the harddisk and cdrom drive but no difference. I think the mainboard is death Out of warranty...
Recently, my Blackbook has had some troubles when I close the lid. What happens is the light never starts pulsing, and the laptop gets really warm and the fan goes crazy. When I open the lid, the screen stays black. When I reboot it, It shows the grey screen, goes black for a sec, then restarts. I tried reseting the pram, but it didnt help.
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy acer aspire v5 - 122p went through an automatic update recently after it powered back on it never booted past the initial Acer boot screen I eventually did a hard resetbut now the screen stays completely black the fan is on the blue lights are on but nothing else. From what I have read online you can flash the bios but the file I have downloaded on the Acer website does not match any of the tutorials I have read or watched.
View 7 Replies View Relatedi have a acer aspire 3000 i got from some relatives but when i turn it on it turns on i can here the fan kick on an the dvd drive go click click and stuff but then fan stops and it goes dead silent and the screen never shows anything from the beggining by any chance do those little switches that shut off the screen when u close it ... .do they ever brake ...? ive tried hooking it up to another monitor but it doesnt show a screen of anything but it must send some type of a signal cause its just a plain blank screen and once i unplug it it sais no signal no signal all over

Is it the Mother board or the Harddrive? Replaced screen due to vertical and horizontal lines in color. Computer worked normal at times. I thought it was fixed but then while doing a HP diagnostic program the computer said to shut down because the batttery situation might harm the computer . I tested the AC adapter. I installed a new battery and at first it was working again. I updated and scanned with AVG & Malwarebytes. Did another HP diagnostic and at one point was told to restart. It never lived again to this point.
All it does is light up the power light and W/LAN (F 12). Blue lights are on at times indicating Cap locks and number locks are engaged. I did do a complete factory restore before it came to this point and updated the bios (to F 37) and downloaded updates for chipsets and Graphics also.(after screen installed) The only thing it does now is make noises at startup and power indicator is lit now Light keeps cycling.(light off, light on) in ten second intervals.
I have laptop listed above. For the past 3 days I hasn't not been able to get it in. it sounds like its starting but the screen stays black. Recently installed antivirus on 01/01/2012 because I had some kind of worm/malware. Windows 7 is the OS. Cap lock light is on and "hp combo assistant" light is on constant no blinking. Don't know what to do.

I open Google Chrome, surf on the Internet etc. After 10 min, I shut off my Dell computer normaly. Now when I turn my MiniPC on, it just doesn't do anything... My hard drive doesn't starts. And another question: I realised that only 3GB ram is being used by windows 32bit and I've got 4GB installed. When Windows 7 arrives will it be possible for me to install the 64bit version to use the full 4GB? I could'nt find any info in the manual.

View 5 Replies View Relatedi've had my dv5t laptop for about 4 months now and had no problems until now... for some reason every once in a while my screen starts to fade colors and i can't see what i'm doing. sometimes it gets really bad and fades until it turns black and gets stuck for a good 10 seconds. i can still continue to do everything, but i just can't see anything.
View 4 Replies View Relatedmy dv5t that is 11months old has been having flickering issues for like the last couple months. random lines just start appearing or screen goes dimmer, and it usually is fixed but just moving the screen back and forth. no idea what causes this. so i read other people have had the same issue and have sent it into hp, which fix it temporarily but the problem comes back. so my questions include
1. by now, does hp fully fix this problem yet?
2. what is usually the turn-around time? if i sent my laptop out on monday, when would i expect to get it back? i'm from TX btw
3. do i have to pay for shipping to ship it there? or will they cover that?
4. will my harddrive been reformatted when i sent it in?
5. can i remove my harddrive before i send it in (to verify i still have all my data)? where is HD located?
I have had my HP DV5t for a while now and didn't pay much attention to it, but I have noticed that my screen is not as bright as some of my friends laptops (dell's not hp). And that when I watch a movie from my HDD, the video has a sort of white/or extremely bright quality to it.

The computer seems to have a weird problem when watching HD videos from places like YouTube or Hulu. I will get horizontal lines near the middle height of the screen. They are not pixels changing colors or going dark, it is almost as if the image is jumping around or as if it is processing/updating the video or something. (It's really hard to explain - it looks like the video is slightly off, just a series of horizontal lines that are jumping around.)
I've never noticed this until somewhat recently. Is this just a case of horizontal refresh lines and the video being too high-quality? Or does it sound like something more problematic.
I have bought a DV5T Notebook 1 month back from US and now i am India, there is physical damage on the LCD screen and i am sure teh LCD screen got broken. When i tried to call HP India Customer Care people, they have said this model is not available in INDIA and they cant do service. And when i chatted with HP US customer care people they said it charges $700 for repair which i dont think to pay as i can buy new Notebook.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy laptop just got its screen replaced due to dust and I sent in my DV5T to them to fix it. They told me it was going to be a brand new screen. They fix it and send it back to me. I open the box and notice that my keyboard is improperly installed and later that hour, I noticed that I got a dead pixel.
So I call my HP case manager and tell him what is going on and it is B.S that HP won't fix my laptops screen. They are going to fix the keyboard but as for the screen he said that there is a formula that they follow to determine if they can fix my screen. I am pissed because I know that HP ain't going to give me any break because of the fomula but it is the fact that once I open my laptop I notice that I have a dead pixel. Can they really do that? Like fix my laptop and claim that it is a new screen but has a dead pixel?
I need to know what else I can do if they can't fix my laptop because the pixel is so obvious since I have the 1680x1050 res.
I used the nVidia VGA BIOS mod a few weeks ago, this is probably not my problem, though. I booted blindly using the USB stick (had to remove the HDD) and flashed the old BIOS, yet I still get a blank screen.
Before this happened, my laptop was acting really sluggish for some reason, so I thought I should restart to fix it, I did that and it came up as a blank screen! First restart, it seemed to boot to the OS, next time, it did not.
It's pretty much like the 5315 post (what a coincidence).

I have it set not to go to standby or anything when I close the lid, but it seems like it should still turn the backlight off to conserve battery.
I had to uninstall the current driver. After this it auto installed the old ati driver.
I uninstalled this one as well leaving me with the bare bones driver that comes with windows. After installing the modded driver again and restarting it began to work again................................................
Suddenly my PC started to stay for about 1 miinute at the HP logo during boot time, usually it took only a few seconds. There was no hardware change at the time of period of the start of this problem. These are the things i tried to solve this issue, but without success
-formatting the laptop
-reseating the rams
-reconnecting the hard disk
-changed the hard disks
-updating the bios
-disabling floppy, CD/DVD drive and network adapter check for boot devices

my housemate has a HP G6000...When she turns it on the laptop starts (ie. CPU/HDD and optical disk drive all start up fine and sound normal) but the screen remains completely black, no flicker whatsoever...I opened up the laptop and moved the ram modules around as a suggestion on old posts i found..It did no good...Also i could see the GPU and saw no evidence of it being burntout at all..
If i connect it to an external monitor and it worked would that rule out a GPU failure?
And would that mean a connection is loose somewhere?
I've spent a while now reading through the forums for both the 1st and 2nd gen 15" Envys. My first gen Envy, purchased 3 weeks ago suffered the dreaded black screen issue, which was identified by turning the machine on and leaving it for a while - could be 10 minutes, could be hours and the screen would go black, system would lock up and require a hard reboot. Oddly enough the hard drive packed up after a couple of weeks use. I replaced the drive myself with a new western digital Scorpio, but the symptoms still occurred.
Having bought the unit from a retailer, I took it back and had the last remaining gen 1, which was their display unit (i prefer the lower res screen for gaming-better performance at native res). To date I have not had a single black screen. The drivers and software are exactly the same, which kind of ruined my idea that it may be drivers causing the issue, so I'm very intrigued as to what may be causing the issue.
I'd like to keep this thread solely to covering this issue as it seems to be affecting users of both first and 2nd gen units, so feel free to post your experiences of this exact problem and any remedies you may have discovered, as it took me ages to find like minded users in the massive general Envy threads! Maybe we can get enough information to help the Hp techs, as I really think this unit is otherwise a very good performer!
I have problem with blackscreen on a dv6000, and after some searching I found some tips.
One of them was to check the soldering at the GPU and the BGA, but...to the question:
Where is the GPU and what is the BGA?
I have found some chips labeled Nvidia, but I'm not sure.
I just replaced the back piece to the laptop (behind the back of the lcd as well as the front bezel
Know the laptop powers up but, the screen stays black
I own a dv9500t model which has been working fine since I bought it in October 2007. Today out of the blue the screen went black while I was working on the computer. What does this mean? I am still able to use the computer via an external monitor.
