For the longest time, my M90 only recognized 3.25 gb of RAM on my M90 even though it had 4 gb installed. After the service pack, it recognizes all 4 gb! Did anybody else notice this? This is for the 32bit version.

View 7 Replies View RelatedAs some of you may know (I've been posting in the throttling threads) my SXPS1640 is being replaced due to ridiculous heat and throttling issues. I finally got information on my new laptop which actually WILL be new as it's being built from the ground up just as if I had ordered it, also included is the 130W power adapter, I have some questions about it though as I'm unfamiliar with some of the hardware in it.

I talked to a nice gentleman from Dell on Friday and am going to "seal the deal". I decided against an Outlet model to avoid any potential problems and my Mom, who is the one really buying it agrees.
The Dell rep recommended the standard Dell 1510 a/g/n card. He said the Intel wasn't really going to give me better performance just cost more for the Intel name.
I did notice the Intel 5300 has more data throughput. In real world, does it make much of a difference? I don't think the laptop will be used to watch streaming video or gaming over the WiFi connection, but what would be a reason to pay the extra for the Intel 5300 over the Dell 1510?
After nearly 3 years my beloved XPS has hit the wall, the 7950GTX and GPU fan are fried; graphical glitches and artifacting galore,
called Dell support to get a replacement (thank god for my 4 year warranty and NBDOS/Complete Care coverage)
Should I push to get the whole Mobo and cpu replaced too?
The system runs super slow and throttles after about 10 mins aswell as taking nearly 3 mins to boot up (only since the GPU failed)
Seems like Dell finally pulled the plug on the excellent Dell Xps m1530 and the m1330 as they are no longer avaialble on Dell Home USA .
Glad I snagged a LED refurb 2 weeks ago for my wife.
Finally, I can send and receive media to/from friends!
Also, my iPhone 3G seems to work just fine sending and receiving MMSs, while my girlfriend's iPhone 3GS doesn't seem to work. She can receive MMS, but anytime she tries to send one, she gets a red ! next to the photo saying "Error Sending Message. Try Again". I followed the same procedure to enable MMS as I did on my iPhone. OS 3.1 then updated carrier settings via iTunes 9.0.1.
Well After my first DV5T had really annoying buzzing, I asked for a replacement. Got the replacement and have been playing with it for about 3 days now and the buzzing is about 90% quieter.
I know a few others were experiencing this, but with the laptops side-by-side, there is a night and day difference between the two
My wifes trusty laptop of over 8 years has finally succumbed, it now begins to boot, then stops, and restarts, rinse repeat.
No screen activity, no post, just cpu fan, lights and then nothing, restart.
Kinda the restart of death. I've taken out the mainboard and all other componants and cleaned, then replaced, still nothing.
HD was already removed and data transferred, she's sharing my DV7 now in win 7 ...
(really think MB, pwr supply of some sort) Plan on getting her a new one, but if someone knew of a known issue with these symptoms ...

I connect it with HDMI cable with no problem to TV and have sound with windows vista. But with XP I get only image and no sound !
i have tried updating my computer (vista OS) with the latest updates (for security update). i tried twice (which had me restart, and i did), and both times they failed. why is this? this has happened before.

Spent about half a day now on getting the Windows 8.1 Pro update for my new Inspion 15. However each time after installing the update from the store and rebooting, I am greeted with the message that the update could not be installed, error number 0xC1900101 - 0x20017. I have installed all Windows Updates and also updated all Intel and NVidia divers. Uninstalling everything preinstalled by Dell did not change the result either. What else could I try?Â

my computer can't "standby" or "hibernate" I can see that option but its disabled, what can I do?
I'm downloading some drivers right now like, my wireless card drivers, ethernet drivers and some others that were lost during the reinstall.
The drivers I'm missing are:
Ethernet Controller
Video controller
Video controller (VGA compatible) ....
Update utility doesn't seem to support that "-writehdrfile" parameter.
View 7 Replies View RelatedLatitude E6410, changed a bad HD for a new one. Installed windows 7. Besides having issues with WIFI and USB drivers, I cannot do a windows update, it shows a big red X, message I get is
" Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You many need to restart your computer"
I updated the bios, and rebooted like 15 times.
I bought this laptop specifically to use for 3D development and made sure to get the nVidia GT650M to assist in this. I just got my nVidia Vision 2 kit and successfully upgraded the nVidia drivers from their site. However when I go into the monitor settings I am only given an option for 60Hz; there is no option to switch to 120Hz. I am unable to locate a driver update to assist in this. I used Dell's update for the GT650M but it's the same as what I installed from nVidia.
Where can I get a driver to update to 120Hz?
I have a new Inspiron 15 3521. I tried to update to Windows 8.1 several times. It downloads to 50% and then says Installing for a few seconds and then Getting PC Ready for a few seconds then it starts downloading again. Steps taken so far
1. I ran Windows Update and the Intel Storage Controller 7 Series Controller needed to be updated. The update failed.Â
2. I went to Dell's Driver Support site and it detected the same driver needed to be updated. I ran the update and it installed successfully. I restarted the PC. I ran the Dell driver update again just to be sure and it said it needed to be update. I tried it 3 times and every time it said success but it never updated.
3. Downloaded driver from Dell and tried to install from Device Manager. It said the driver was up to date.
I googled this and it appears to be a common problem but no solution was stated. Surely others are having this issue.
I have a problem with my studio 1525, whenever I run windows update and try to restart after, i get a blue screen of death, the i have to run recovery manager to get running again.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 1545 running Windows 7 64 bit SP1. Recently I cloned my old original SATA hard drive for a larger Seagate (600Gb). All is fin apart from no windows update and an annoying request to activate. When i try to update I get a message that my service isn't running and I need to re-boot. It is running and a re-boot makes no difference. In System properties the laptop says it is activated but Windows thinks otherwise.Â
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just bought my new laptop. I have it for around 10 days. Everything was ok at first but after 3-4 days I decided to update to Windows 8.1. After that the laptop never wakes up after going to sleep no matter what I do.
It seems that others have the same issue. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling both display drivers, I removed a bluetooth device that had an error with 8.1 but I couldn't resolve the wakeup problem. I ran the power troubleshooter, nothing. Hybrid sleep in advanced power settings was already off.
It's really frustrating to have to do a hard reset everytime

my question is, it is safe to update the BIOS from inside the Windows 8? I am ask because in the past my previous laptop, burned the motherboard of the laptop, because the bios update through the windows it was failed.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell XPS 17 laptop that seems to be stuck in the Startup Repair Loop, and I have tried everything to get out of the startup repair mode, but nothing seems to be working. I have tried F8, Safe Mode, System Restore (to two different dates), and the command prompt, but everything happened to no avail. I even did the Diagnostics test (long version), and that came up with nothing. I purchased the laptop back in October of 2010, and it has Windows 7. The laptop went into this Startup repair loop about a day after it did a Windows "Critical" update. One of the programs that the update tried to install onto my computer was Google Chrome (which it, according to the laptop, failed to install properly). It makes me wonder if the update uninstalled a driver, or turned a driver bad.
Two errors that I repeatedly get are "Corruptfile" and "Autofailover". I truly hope that this is something that can be fixed, and I hope that I will not have to restore my laptop back to it's factory settings.
My g and h keys stopped working after a Windows 8.1 update occurred on my Inspiron 15R-5521. I didn't even want te update--but could not stop it.
I have tried updatin BIOS drivers, input drivers, and altering keyboard functions in control panel.
I purchased a refurbished Dell e6410 about a year ago. Â The Laptop was working find with no issues. Â But in mid August, I did a windows 7 update... Â After the update, windows restarted... Â But instead of booting up to windows... Â It went to "startup repair". Â It ran this several times until is said it could not repair the startup.
I ended up having to do a recovery and reload windows and re-image my HD... Â After doing that, I tried windows update again. Â Same issue. Â after windows update... Â It would just got to startup repair.
Again, I had to restore my OS and re-image my drive. Â I tested and checked the HD and go no errors. Â Ran disk check and disk check /r... Â But if I tried to run a windows update it would just go into startup repair and I would eventually have to just reload my os and re-image the drive.
I spoke to an agent from Dell about it... Â He suggested I wait a month before trying to do the windows update. Â Perhaps they have a bug. Â Â Â
So I waited two months and tried an update again, last night.  This time, I would get the dell logo, with f12 option, that would go away and then "windows is loading necessary files", but then the screen would go black and dell screen came up gain, then "windows is loading necessary files".  I let it do this for almost an hour.  Windows never started...  I had no option to get into safe mode or any other boot modes. I have a regular desk top pc that I have done windows update and it has no issues.  Â
I am running windows 7 64bit.
I got my Z890 the other day, and I have now started to reformat the thing and get it cleaned up. I've been following Sigma957's guide, and when I try to install the Sony Shared media thing I get the error, "This update can only be run in Windows Vista". What's up with this?

While installing and 'expanding files', the disk tray popped open at 21%. I pushed it back in, waited an hour, and it never went past 21% (Though the HDD light was chugging along like it was doing something). I restarted and now I'm waiting to roll back to Vista and start over. Anyone else have a similar issue on a Dv3?
Update: I ran the disk again after rolling back and it gave me the same problem. An error message pops up after it says "Windows needs to be restarted". That message is one of those 0.5second messages you can't really read, then the tray pops open, and windows restarts.
