I have inspiron N5110 . I recently upgraded my bios version from A9 to A11(to solve the Win 8 black screen problem) . But unfortunately the battery timing is reduced to 2 hours only . before that it was nearly 4 hours. I switched back to windows 7 and i want to get that bios version back..

I have downloaded the current BIOS for the N5110 to upgrade for a Windows 8 upgrade. However, this may sound rather trite but I cannot find any explicit instructions on how to perform the BIOS update. even pointing me to a process procedure that has been written to follow.

Using Windows 7 on an Inspiron N5110. Get a black screen when system loads indicating a previous incorrect shutdown, with the options to load Safe or Normal. But the system will not accept any of these options, as a matter of act, the system will not accept anything.

I can't update the bios past V 07. When I looked through the support posts I found people asking the same question and when I did a search I found over 300.000 hits for the same problem many Dell laptops. What I have NOT found is Dell addressing the problem. Is it the update engine it's self or a problem with the computers? I installed all the patches and all the updates for my computer except the Bios.

Recently, my HDD and DVD drive went-off together and Dell replaced the parts.
Since new HDD has been placed, support team installed Windows 7 Home Premium and I had a excellent booting time of 20 seconds (total boot time, BIOS A07, no mSATA).
While upgrading Dell drivers for bluetooth,prompted for BIOS update and upgraded it now.
After upgrading my BIOS to A09, now my BIOS boot time itself 19 seconds, and windows boot time is 23 seconds.
Why previously good performance went down after upgrading BIOS...
getting the password for a Dell N5110. That's the only fix listed in the A10 release. I wanted to let everyone know that if you have an nVidia graphics card in your E1705 or any other laptop from 2006-2008 you should check for the latest BIOS update because these cards have faulty thermal design that causes overheating and failure. The symptoms are odd colored pixels, video flickering, rebooting and system crashes, program crashes, odd lines on screen, etc - once you start to exerience this it's already too late, your chip is damaged and needs to be replaced. Likely, at this point, every system out there is probably already experiencing some form of failure so to be safe, if you're still under warranty, I'd use it to get a new card as soon as you can and apply this BIOS update. I received a brief pop-up notice that there was an important BIOS upgrade for my Inspiron 7720 and then when I went out to the Dell Support Link there is a one paragraph stating that there is a critical new BIOS update. I had hope to read more about the update and what it required but there was nothing. So I clicked on the link, this launched a download of a file - 7720A13.exe and nothing else.
How am I to distinguish this file from a SPAMMER sending me a file?
I have an Inspiron 17R SE 7720 running Windows 7 64-bit Pro which has been working fine, but I was thinking about getting an mSata flash drive to cache the hard disk, and reading on this forum discovered that my A01 bios version wasn't up to the job, so tried to update the bios tonight.
I downloaded the 7720A12.exe from the Dell site but wanted to backup my bios first. Again searching this forum, I saw a post that said there was a backup option when running the exe. Wrong.
Running it from within windows it immediately said it was going to reboot (I wasn't given an option!). My laptop powered down as if doing a restart, but immediately hung.
There was nothing but blackness on the screen, no text, no beeps. It appeared to be stuck in a boot cycle, as the screen back light was coming on, and off, and on, and off etc, for 10 minutes straight.
I powered down and powered up and I get the dell logo and can enter the bios setup, but after that, no matter what I do, I get a dos based "BOOT MENU" with just these options on:
Network Boot <- does nothing except messes up the display of this menu Setup <- loads the bios settings Diagnostics <- runs a diagnostic program which tests the hardware and reports all tests pass Change boot mode setting <- does nothing except messes up the display of this menu
I can't get passed this menu.
I've tried booting from a DVD - both a Windows 7 installation disk, and the Dell recovery DVD I created when I first got the laptop, neither DVD boots, and apart from buzzing the DVD drive, don't have any effect at all.
Both disks have been tested in another Inspiron laptop I have, and I also set the boot priority order in the bios so that DVD is the first item in the list.
I've also tried a bootable USB stick, but no joy there either. The light on the stick shows it's being accessed, but I still end up at the Boot Menu above.
I just bought a T7500 processor to upgrade my Aspire 5315. I understand that a bios upgrade should be performed before replacing the cpu. I read about some problems with bios version 1.34 and some went back to 1.33 and there is a new bios 1.43 now.

just like my sony laptop FW510f, it have the ATI 4650, but the GPU frequency is 450 and memory is 600. i think dell can do like it to avoid the fan's noisy(its runs when i press the start button), and the throttling problem.
BTW: my 1647's fan keep spin and the gpu temp is 50 when its idle, is it normal? the ambient no more than 20c
I purchased a Latitude D505 from a police auction and the BIOS setup is locked by password. It will not allow me change setups, such as system time.
Under system security it shows Primary Password unabled, Admin Password Enabled, Configure Setup Disabled and Configure Password enabled.
I need to clear these in order to setup new HDD and operating system.

i own an aspire 5672 wmli i`ve done many upgrades to it and always try to have the latest updates for all my drivers but i`m curious i see in the europe site has different bios updates with different dates there is a update wich is the latest on 3239 from 2008 and there is another from 2/23/2007 3236 but under vista now i use vista ultimate should i use the one for vista is there some difference, some integration for vista or something or just go for the latest 3239?
