View 6 RepliesI have tried taking the battery out, and letting pc start  w/o it, hitting the f8 key and trying each solution, System restore won't work, and each fix I read about won't work either. I hate re installing the oS, as I lose everything on my pc.Â
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 1545 running Windows 7 64 bit SP1. Recently I cloned my old original SATA hard drive for a larger Seagate (600Gb). All is fin apart from no windows update and an annoying request to activate. When i try to update I get a message that my service isn't running and I need to re-boot. It is running and a re-boot makes no difference. In System properties the laptop says it is activated but Windows thinks otherwise.Â
View 5 Replies View RelatedA few days ago, on my Inspiron 1545, my power adapter stopped working.
I started using an identical Dell adapter (exact same model PA-3E) to supply power to the laptop, power was working fine, but the battery would not charge. Â The battery is at 0%.
In BIOS the adapter is recognised as the correct 90W adapter  but the battery is marked as "IDLE".
I have run Dell diagnostics and that says the battery is healthy, how can that be if it wont charge.
I have downloaded the current BIOS for the N5110 to upgrade for a Windows 8 upgrade. However, this may sound rather trite but I cannot find any explicit instructions on how to perform the BIOS update. even pointing me to a process procedure that has been written to follow.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIt's been over two years since the last update, but Dell finally released a patch for the faulty nVidia graphics chips to help delay failure. That's the only fix listed in the A10 release. I wanted to let everyone know that if you have an nVidia graphics card in your E1705 or any other laptop from 2006-2008 you should check for the latest BIOS update because these cards have faulty thermal design that causes overheating and failure. The symptoms are odd colored pixels, video flickering, rebooting and system crashes, program crashes, odd lines on screen, etc - once you start to exerience this it's already too late, your chip is damaged and needs to be replaced. Likely, at this point, every system out there is probably already experiencing some form of failure so to be safe, if you're still under warranty, I'd use it to get a new card as soon as you can and apply this BIOS update. Anyway, you can find the BIOS update here:

I have inspiron N5110 . I recently upgraded my bios version from A9 to A11(to solve the Win 8 black screen problem) . But unfortunately the battery timing is reduced to 2 hours only . before that it was nearly 4 hours. I switched back to windows 7 and i want to get that bios version back..

At the end i had to pull out AC cord and battery. Now its dead(No activity at all). how can i restore bios???
View 9 Replies View RelatedI received a brief pop-up notice that there was an important BIOS upgrade for my Inspiron 7720 and then when I went out to the Dell Support Link there is a one paragraph stating that there is a critical new BIOS update. I had hope to read more about the update and what it required but there was nothing. So I clicked on the link, this launched a download of a file - 7720A13.exe and nothing else.Â
How am I to distinguish this file from a SPAMMER sending me a file?
I tried to update bios in Inspiron N5110 but laptop freezed in the middle of update so I had to remove the battery to turn it off.
Now it won't turn on and just it makes three beeps and nothing else. how I can turn it on again?
I have an Inspiron 17R SE 7720 running Windows 7 64-bit Pro which has been working fine, but I was thinking about getting an mSata flash drive to cache the hard disk, and reading on this forum discovered that my A01 bios version wasn't up to the job, so tried to update the bios tonight.
I downloaded the 7720A12.exe from the Dell site but wanted to backup my bios first. Again searching this forum, I saw a post that said there was a backup option when running the exe. Wrong.
Running it from within windows it immediately said it was going to reboot (I wasn't given an option!). My laptop powered down as if doing a restart, but immediately hung.Â
There was nothing but blackness on the screen, no text, no beeps. It appeared to be stuck in a boot cycle, as the screen back light was coming on, and off, and on, and off etc, for 10 minutes straight.Â
I powered down and powered up and I get the dell logo and can enter the bios setup, but after that, no matter what I do, I get a dos based "BOOT MENU" with just these options on:
Network Boot <- does nothing except messes up the display of this menu Setup <- loads the bios settings Diagnostics <- runs a diagnostic program which tests the hardware and reports all tests pass Change boot mode setting <- does nothing except messes up the display of this menu
I can't get passed this menu.
I've tried booting from a DVD - both a Windows 7 installation disk, and the Dell recovery DVD I created when I first got the laptop, neither DVD boots, and apart from buzzing the DVD drive, don't have any effect at all.Â
Both disks have been tested in another Inspiron laptop I have, and I also set the boot priority order in the bios so that DVD is the first item in the list.
I've also tried a bootable USB stick, but no joy there either. The light on the stick shows it's being accessed, but I still end up at the Boot Menu above.
my question is, it is safe to update the BIOS from inside the Windows 8? I am ask because in the past my previous laptop, burned the motherboard of the laptop, because the bios update through the windows it was failed.

and after then not working
what can i do?
I ordered two basic Inspiron 1545's on March 16th. $479 each on the one day special.
Dell says it will arive on April 6th. Does Dell usually take this long to deliver?
Both have Dual Core Pentiums. Can they be upgraded to Core 2 Duo later? Are the CPU's soldered on the main board?
Ram is limited to four gigabytes, even though the laptop uses a 64-bit CPU. Is this something that might be fixed in a future BIOS upgrade?
Is there any way to upgrade the onboard graphics? I found an ExpressCard chasis that has PCI express slots, but it costs over $700. I could build a PC for less than that. Do I have any other options?
I just looked at the pictures and specs of the new Inspiron 1525 replacement, 1545, and I couldn't believe what I have read. No HDMI port, no firewire port, only 3 USB ports, no modem, no eSATA. Also, it is 15.6" 16:9 screen, which is fine, if they offer higher than 1366x768. It is more like the 13" Inspiron than the old 1525 to me. I think Dell is going to re-align Inspiron as a cheap line like the HP Presario line. Dell Studio will compete with HP Pavilion.
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy question is if the early 1545's came with LED's or CCFL's? I see all the 1545's now come with only LED screens.
I ask because on the 'Dell Outlet' it doesn't state if it's a LED screen or not. It just says: "15.6 WXGA Laptop Screen Display with TrueLife"
I am looking to buy a new 15" laptop. A top of the range inspiron 1545 costs £629 and the top XPS M1530 costs £849.
However, looking at the spec - the Inspiron seems to have:
> A better processor (Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor P8600 (2.40Ghz, 3MB, 1066MHz) vs Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T8300 (2.40 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 3 MB L2 cache))
> Faster memory (4096MB 800MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x2048] Vs 4096MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x2048])
My fan on the inspiron 1545 will not stop running. The laptop is quite hot. The battery from Dell died and replaced with a third party battery and adapter which have not been working well either. Battery will not charge so it is currently attached to power source at all times with the battery in the laptop.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI got an old laptop (dell inspiron 1545). I bought it charger and installed Windows 7. then I discovered that he had a strange problem. As if the keyboard is not calibrated. I press a button and he thinks it's another key ... I thought it might be a hardware problem but when I plugged in a USB keyboard had the same problem and even when I uploaded the "virtual keyboard " on screen the problem continued ... I went to the site of DELL and the diagnosis tool indicated the computer is fine (their detection software glitch found in DVD-ROM but it really has nothing to do with it) I still tried to delete the drivers of the keyboard from the computer and reinstall but the problem remains you might know calibration software keyboard?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've noticed that the screen doesn't seem to be evenly lit. For example when I set the desktop background to black, it looks pretty black at the top of the screen, but as I look further down towards the bottom it turns almost medium gray/blue-ish.
I've tried all brightness, contrast and gamma settings with no luck.
Has anyone else seen this problem, and is it a reason for sending back the laptop? Or is this something "you get" for buying a lower-end laptop like the 1545?
I was interested in getting another hard drive caddy for a 1545 but looking on Dell's website by model # they do not even list the 1545 per se.
They have a choice for "15" which I assume will include anything across the board for the 15 "family" models so I looked in there but no parts like this.
I tried ebay and googling around, found several places that sell spare Dell parts, even called & spoke to one but it seems to me that (a) Dell doesn't sell a part like this separately, and (b) places that do sell these kinds of parts are salvaging them from old/dead PCs and since the 1545 is a fairly new model spare parts haven't really surfaced for it yet.
Am curious if folks here know of any decent places to find this kind of thing though, since I certainly could be overlooking something!
none of my game discs or dvds or cds fit inside my laptops tray... the ball inside is too big to fit inside the hole on the dvd
