I have an old HP pavilion dv5 laptop wish won't start up, fan works power light on screen is on but blank with just curser dash top left corner, now I've took hard drive out and tryed starting in BIOS no joy took ram out and I get 3 bleeps when I turn on ....

I do get into the Setup Utility but nothing there that fixes the problem.
I do get into System information, but again, nothing there to fix this start up problem.
Estimates at local shops to fix start at minimum $110 - obviously could be higher
However, Amazon selling HP Mini 110-1030NR for $110
Questions:
1. How I can recover to operate the HP MIni 110-3100 I have?
2. What are the differences in 110-3100 versus the 110-1030NR
3. If I decide to buy the -1030NR instead of having the -3100 repaired, what I am giving up and ALSO, what does the NR stand for?
I recently purchased an Acer Aspire R7-572-6423 touchscreen notebook. It works great for the most part except for the touchscreen seems to glitch out every once in a while. What happens is out of nowhere the touch screen will start registering a click in the very upper left corner of the screen (as seen by the Windows 8 touch visual feedback) even though I am not touching the screen. The clicking happens very fast (several times a second) and makes the notebook unusuable.
I can make the clicking stop by touching and holding my finger on the screen near where the clicking is happening. However, as soon as I lift my finger, the clicking resumes.
To fix the issue, I have to do a touch screen calibration (Windows settings -> Tablet PC Settings -> Calibrate -> Touch input). However, the calibration appears to be off using this method (I cannot swipe the windows 8 bar to the right) so I then do a calibration reset (Tablet PC Settings -> Reset). This generally resolves the issue for a while.
I have tried moving the screen into different positions and cleaning the screen but the issue still comes back on occasion.
I have an HP Pavilion g4-2149se Notebook running Windows 7.For the past 2 weeks almost, whenever I start my computer, before getting the Windows welcome screen, I get a lingering blank screen with a cursor. Then, it'll finally get to the welcome screen, but before it loads my desktop, I'll get another lingering blank screen with a cursor. Honestly, I'm grateful that my computer is still starting up at all... But is there any way to fix the lingering blank screens? It's making me nervous.I've looked around the web for a solution for days, and anything I could find I've tried, but nothing has worked. I uninstalled all recent Windows updates, hoping one of them had went wrong, but no luck I scanned for virus' and malware and found nothing. I've only downloaded one program since I noticed the problem began (4K Video Downloader), though the program doesn't seem to be a problem.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm more of a desktop user but my husband gave me this laptop on January 2007. Since then, I think I only used it for less than 20 hours (we don't have a wireless)... when we got out of town.
The last time I used it, about a year ago, it turned off by itself. I tried to use it again when I got home but the screen is just blank whenever I turn it on. What could be the problem? I don't think it's a good idea to send it for repair to HP as the warranty expired already.
when I turn it on, all the blue lights turn on... but the screen won't therefore I can't use it. Ealier, I hooked up an external monitor but didn't work. Could it be an LCD problem?
The notebook doesn't have any scratch or whatsoever. It still looks like new, yet not working.
I am currently using windows 8 as my OS. When I attempt to start my laptop the Dell logo flashes on the screen and the screen turns blank/black and sits there for a few min before displaying an empty bar and F12 Boot Options in the bottom right hand corner.
I have attempted to press F12 to try and load windows in safe mode but everything is frozen at this point.
Is there a way to determine if its a hardware issue or windows issue. When I searched for the issue I found some with a similar issue but the link provided for support was no longer valid
I received my M6400 with 1920 x 1200 RGB LED Display, I just noticed that at the Left Bottom corner there is an Orange type color shadow, just on top of the Start buttom in the taskbar, is this normal ? do I have to ask Dell for a replacement ?, do I need to do any color adjustment configuration ?

I set "When I close the lid" action to "Do nothing" when on battery power.
Now when I close the lid, the system is still on, which is good, but mouse cursor behaves strangely. After several seconds, it is usually moved to right bottom corner (over the clock/date area in desktop), with circle around it. Mouse is just completely unusable.
I am not sure what is wrong, maybe the touchpad/trackpoint/touch screen is being activated when the lid is closed, but the system is still running?
I watched a movie on Thursday evening and closed the lid of my acer aspire E531 laptop. (Chosen shut down method) I wanted to resume working about 2 hours later and was greeted by only a grey screen. Machine powers up but then just the blank screen. After switching on, the fan starts for about 30 seconds and then stops and then the blank (grey like screen)
I've tried some solutions posted on internet ( remove battery and hold power button; press ctr alt del twice; press F8 on start up) Nothing worked. The remove battery solution ignited some response from the machine, i.e. grey screen seemed to turn white with feint blocks in background almost checkered blocks, but very very feint.
I have a dell inspiron n5040 . Its only 1 month old.since 2days ago everytime i try to turn it on all i get is a blank screen with audio of 7 beeps a pause then 7 more and so on. I have read a few posts about taking the battery out and pressing the power button for 30 secs and also trying with just the ac power, I don't think this works for my problem. View 4 Replies View RelatedI just bought an HP touchsmart pavilion N229tx last week and I noticed now that it started creating grinding noises every 3 seconds whenever my laptop is on and running. The noise is coming from near the vent where the air is supposed to come out.
Also when I bought the laptop and opened it the first time I keep having the fan error upon startup saying that it had found that a fan is not operational I think it is error 90B. this now happens everytime I turn on the laptop.
i got a hp dv2000 and sometimes when i start it up and it gets to the user selection screen i cant find my cursor to select my user account. I keep moving my finger on the touch pad but cant find it. View 3 Replies View RelatedAll of the diagnostics have been run, multiple times to determine the BIOS light flash count blank screen issue, and all other suggestions run, including an additional monitor, with no success.
Hard drive, disc drive, everything works, or at the very least sounds like it is attempting to work as required on start up, just a blank screen. Final diagnostic points to the video card as the culprit? With all of the new systems available around $300, would like to know if it is the video card, and if it is worth the fix or just purchase an entirely new system?

I have a HP pavilion G6 which worked fine for like half a year. Today i wanted to startup my laptop, but it seems to be stuck on a black screen (with my cursor appeared) after the HP loading screen. Sometimes at the startup it says "preparing automatic restore", but results after loading at the same black screen.I tried to solve this problem with the following things:
1. Hard reset (turn off everything, hold power button 30 seconds, turn on everything and startup etc.)
2. Replacing RAM. Someone at the forum said this worked, but it didn't.
3. Tried taking off all USB devices such as mouse, DC adapter etc. and started up but didn't work.
A month ago i tried doing a factory reset, but my laptop seemed to be stuck on the same black screen.
I have a Dell 1525 laptop which will not boot beyond the Dell logo, I get a black screen with a white cursor. I tried to use the last known good configuration and it started out fine but I got the black screen again. I can't go into the safe mode, it only goes as far as loading the files. I tried booting from the cd to do a repair but that options says there are no problems. I attached an external monitor and I get the same black screen with the white cursor. I am running Vista Home as my operating system.

Laptop passed the compatibility checker no probs & has all the updates installed, but every time we try, we get either
1. windows 7 install failure message then black screen with cursor
or
2. straight to black screen with cursor.
This is even after changing to the low res setting that is mentioned so often when googling the issue.
I've looked on the Acer site, but it says if I got it from pc world I should take it up with them?
Anyone here have any advice to get it to work, or should we just smash the laptop off a wall?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a HP Pavilion dv9500 notebook and yesterday after more than two years of pretty much running smoothly it wouldn't boot. First it actually booted into windows but the whole desktop screen was frozen with mouse cursor. So I turned it off, turned it back on and it booted into blue screen and restarted itself. After couple of tries I booted into safe mode which was running fine.
I wasn't sure what the problem was but I was thinking it must be software related, so I loaded an image of my system which I've used before and knew was ok. But even after putting a brand new OS it was doing the same thing.
One time I was actually able to boot into normal mode so I thought maybe the issue got resolved magically. But, I have my external monitor plugged in and even when in normal mode the signal wouldn't go through, so I had to use my laptop monitor. I kept trying to switch the signal and even though it was showing the icon like it's transferring nothing happened. So I checked my video card properties and the card all of the sudden had no drivers and was basically unrecognized by the OS.
I am using dell inspiron N5040 laptop from last 1.5 years. from last 2 months suddenly its going to blank screen. There is no sound at that time.

This happened to be about 10 times (the first time I spent about 3 days on the phone with a technian) already and I always have to reinstall Windows Vista to get my laptop working again. Today I found out that whenever my computer updates my video drive my screen will go blank, is this normal? What I can do to prevent this from happening again? My screen also goes blank when I install a video driver from the dell CD, but when I uninstalled it in safe mode and restart my laptop my screen is no longer blank.

On several attempts of troubleshooting, nothing resolved.
On pressing Function+CRT/LCD, the screen is white and no other signs.
there are no beep sounds heard during the start-up process and no logos appear.

When I switch the laptop on, I can hear the fan, the wifi and caps lights come on but the display remains blank. This happened about two weeks ago so I did a hard reset and that worked. When my laptop, which is a pavilion g6-1112sa model that I've only had for two tears went into sleep mode yesterday I tried to awaken it but the screen just remained blank. I've tried a hard reset again today but it doesn't work at all.
