I m using dell laptop since 2 years ,last week i try to update my pc with windows latest graphic update unfortunately after update the screen became blank with cursor blinking on it. Now I couldn't access my pc. Safe mode also not working,tried to get in through last known good configuration but it doesn't work.
View 6 RepliesI have a dell M5030. When I power it up I see the dell logo with F2/F12 options. I can get into both of those, after that screen disappears it goes to a black screen with a blinking cursor in the upper left hand corner. I have tried various "fixes" that i can find online, from powering it down hitting f12 to try and boot from hard drive, nothing seems to work. I have ran the diagnostics fully and no errors come up, but I can not seem to get it to do anything. F8 does not work for me to try to go to safe mode.

The spec of my laptop is:
- intel i7 dual core 3537U-2Ghz
- win 8 64-bit
- AMD Radeon HD 8730M
- screen resolution 1920x1080
The problem is:
The screen suddenly went black when I was watching tutorial about using Windows 8 from the Start Screen, which immediately closed the video, and a few seconds later the start screen appear. When the start screen appear, the size of the tiles and the fonts became smaller then before the black out happened. Then a warning box appear saying "No AMD graphic driver is installed, or the AMD driver is not functioning properly. Please install the AMD driver appropriate for your AMD hardware".
My g and h keys stopped working after a Windows 8.1 update occurred on my Inspiron 15R-5521. I didn't even want te update--but could not stop it.
I have tried updatin BIOS drivers, input drivers, and altering keyboard functions in control panel.
today i tried turing on my laptop its a G56. and the hp logo came on after that i got a black screen with a white cursor blinking. now i tried the hard reset that did not work, there are no blinking lights. i also tested the hard drive and memory and everything passed. i also tride f11 system recovery and does nothing just goes to a black screen again. also a friend of mine has the same exact laptop i tried swapping hard drives to see maybe if it was my computer but his hard drive work fine on my comp. then i put my hard drive in his comp and did the same exact thing, black screen with the white cursor.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am booting a Dell Latitude E5420 running Windows 7 and after the POST it just shows a blinking cursor..... BUT WAIT... not ALL the time... it does manage to boot into the windows after I choose the HDD from F12 options or sometimes even when I keep on shutting down and starting up again and sometimes when I do a restore checkpoint in the repair options....
The Diagnostic tests are not working when I go through the F12 and just hangs up showing the message -

I can't understand... if it was consistently NOT booting or showing a consistent error... but here the behavior is erratic (except for the MATS test failure....
I have an S440. I've had it for one week. Two days ago I downloaded the Windows 8.1 update from the store. Since then, when I start up the computer, it doesn't even taken me to the 'sign in' screen. There's just a black screen. When I move the cursor, it briefly appears, flickers, then disappears again.
I understand this is an issue with the graphics drivers. So I ran Windows in safemode and disabled Intel R HD Graphics family and AMD Radeon HD 8600 series graphics drivers.
This, unfortunately, hasn't fixed the problem. It still boots to a black screen with an occasionally flickering cursor. I'm currently running in safemode.
I got automatic Windows up date last night. After the updates, I can't do anything except turn on the computer, see the HP page, the green log in with password page, then all goes dark blue and freezes. It will not even rcognize the keyboard to back out. It is an HP Envy 20 all in one desktop. I have removed the back, all looks good, everything is secured and in place.

Then, it'll finally get to the welcome screen, but before it loads my desktop, I'll get another lingering blank screen with a cursor. Honestly, I'm grateful that my computer is still starting up at all... But is there any way to fix the lingering blank screens? 1. How I can recover to operate the HP MIni 110-3100 I have?
2. What are the differences in 110-3100 versus the 110-1030NR
3. If I decide to buy the -1030NR instead of having the -3100 repaired, what I am giving up and ALSO, what does the NR stand for?
I have a new Dell Inspiron 17R with Windows 8 (bought dec 12). From the last two days, the laptop freezes after boot. The screen (touch wood) is fine, since it gives me option to trouble shoot and all. I have a feeling its a windows 8 problem. I have done all the things (such as pressing fn and power logo) as mentioned in other posts. Still its not working. As of now the laptop is in pre-boot system assessment - all are done but Hard Drive 0 is stuck at 10% from the last 15 mins!
Why is the screen black / blank after booting dell logo? I do get 'Welcome' message below the Dell logo but after that the screen is blank.
Do any of you with VPCZ1s get a blinking cursor before Windows 7 starts? I do not recall getting a blinking cursor with the factory installed configuration and now, after a clean install, I get it. The blinking cursor reminds me of an old desktop PC!

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've had a problem with my LCD for a while now. For around six months the screen sometimes turns black unless it is at a particular degree to the keyboard. For example, at 90 degrees there is a good chance that the screen will flicker and will mostly be black. More than 90 usually works.
Couple days ago I turned my laptop off and before it shut down left the room. When I came back after 15 minutes I heard the beeping sound. I turned the laptop off immediately. After that, every time I turn on laptop, nothing happens apart from beeping. I tried 'D' and then turn on. Also f12. Nothing changes, screen stays black. I also removed battery and pressed on turn on in order to get rid of excess charge.
I have Inspiron 15R 5521 and there is windows 7. I download lots of video drivers. one of them is AMD radeon HD 8730M driver. when I try to set up and use, it says that is not suitable with this pc or windows. what will I do now? Is windows 7 cannot be used with inspiron 15R 5521 ? what will I download?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 5521 that is about a year and a half old. In the last two weeks, it's begun to make a beeping noise and will not boot up. As far as I can tell, there's no pattern or end to the beeps -- it's just one beep continuously. The longest I've let it beep before I couldn't stand it anymore and popped the battery out was 25 beeps. There are about two and a half seconds in between each beep. Up until very recently, taking the battery out and putting it back in seemed to solve the problem, but that no longer seems to work.
I've researched beep codes but can't seem to find one matching that description.
Running Windows 7. The BIOS version and date is Dell Inc. A05, 1/3/2013, SMBIOS Version 207.
What's the difference between UEFI and Legacy and why can't I install Windows 7? I put the Windows 7 CD into the CD-Rom and the installation doesn't start up. It does start up only when I change the bios to legacy. What's the difference between UEFI and legacy? Is it possible to install it on UEFI? If not, if I will install it on legacy, will everything be ok?

I recent;y installed a version of windows on my Dell Laptop, Inspiron 6000. I worked for a week or two then when I turned it on a couple days ago, it won't go pass the black screen with the blinking white line. A user some where on this site on an other post that had similar problems said that it to re-install and delete the existing partition and create another one with 120GB. I did but when creating another partition, I tried to type in the 122880 MB (122880MB = 120GB), and upon pressing ENTER, the numbers 122880 goes back to the number of MB of the partition disk space I had previously. I hope this all make sense. I do not have the money to buy another laptop. I have a Windows XP CD, but not the original. The laptop worked fine before with this version.
To fix the blinking line on the start-up black screen, all I need to do is to re-install windows XP and change the partition to 120GB. But every time I try to change the number of MB, it doesn't work but reverts back to the original number. Is there another way to fix the blinking-white-line-on-the-start-up-screen?
Also, I tried to use the repair control...doesn't work.

I tried to use the last known good configuration and it started out fine but I got the black screen again. I can't go into the safe mode, it only goes as far as loading the files. I tried booting from the cd to do a repair but that options says there are no problems. I attached an external monitor and I get the same black screen with the white cursor. I am running Vista Home as my operating system.

Although when you hold for talk sake the Light of your mobile phone around 1cm away from the Screen you can see the Desktop of the Laptop. So basically the laptop is working but theres no light to light the screen up it just stays black as if it isnt turned on.
Whenever I switch on my Inspiron 6400, either via the On/Off or Media Direct button, the screen almost always goes blank within less than a second. I would like to reset the computer to its original factory settings via F8 or reinstall the operating system via F12 but cannot do so because of the blank screen. Occasionally, I hear the sound which accompanies the window screen a few seconds after switching the computer on; the computer will also sometimes whirr and the number lock and wife symbols will illuminate, all whilst the screen remains blank.
This problem first developed yesterday when I received the message "NTLDR is missing". With a bit of perseverance yesterday, I could eventually get the computer to work by repeatedly switching it on an off, but this no longer seems possible today.My computer has Windows Vista.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy Dell Inspiron 1526 won't restore after hibernation.
After a recent Vista update the laptop was placed in hibernation mode before the normal 'restart to complete update' process. After a minute or so i press a button expecting to see a logon screen, instead the monitor was off, blank screen with no power.
I presss every button but nothing happened. After a restart the monitor remains off but i can still hear 1526 checking the cd drive. I restarted several times trying the Fn+F8 option with an external monitor and pressing the up button while holding Fn but still the same.
1526 appear to be in a wierd state because i placed a XP boot cd and restart then hit Enter several times. If the backlight or inverter was the only problem then 1526 would boot from the cd as normal though i wouldn't be able to see. It doesn't, it simply power up, checks the cd drive then does nothing.
Just two days ago I was using my laptop then turned it off like any other day. Later in the day I proceeded to turn it back on and received the dreadful 7 beeps with a blank screen. For the time that I've had it, I've taken good care of it, (never dropping it etc.) I have read on some of these forums that the 7 beeps could mean a bad motherboard/processor.
