I have had my acer laptop just over a year know and everything has been fine until a few months ago. All of a sudden my dvd drive stopped working which was a major problem as I routinely back up my hard drive as I use it for work. The warrenty has runout.
i could hear something rattling inside but laptop was working fine so i just left it alone. But 2 days ago it seems that harddrive completely stopped working, windows is not booting up and in bios it says it didnt detect any harddrive. So i opened botom cover to see if maybe that rattling was some loose screw and that made harddrive not work and there was a loose screw and i screw it back in (it was just a screw on the bottom not the one that holds harddrive. But my harddrive seems to not work at all and making weird noises when i turn laptop on.
I'm thinking of removing my DVD drive and replacing it with a caddy and hard drive as explained here.
I don't use the DVD drive very often and would much prefer a 500GB or 1TB hard drive in there. The DVD drive can then be used externally via the eSATA port using this cable.
The ideal solution would be to use this NewmodeUS caddy as it supports the larger 12.7mm 1TB 2.5" hard drives and has a removable faceplate. The problem is the price.
At $55 including postage to the UK plus customs, VAT and clearance fees on top it's going to work out pretty expensive for what is essentially a slimline SATA to SATA extension
I replaced the hard drive on my inspiron 1545 and tried to restore it with the dell data safe disks that I made when I got the machine. Windows 7 loaded but I couldn't do anything with it, It was very slow, I couldn't even get it to update. So I loaded in the windows 7 disk that came with it and now I have windows up and running and updated. My question is what drivers do I need to install. I went to dell/support and entered my service tag number and it came up with a list of drivers (46 of them), some I know I need but others seem to be for things I don't know if I have on the computer. How do I know which ones I need?
Also I read something about a file called Dell System Software but its not on the drivers list. Do I need it or not?
to figure the mess that are DVD laptop model numbers? I assume from the past that the bay in my NX9420 is a 9.5mm multi-bay II, yes?
I was going to grab a UJ-852 drive as it is listed as compatible with the NW9440...and near as I recall the only difference between the two models was the graphics card options and the included warranties.
My NX9420 has been running pretty much 24/7 since I bought in in around in early 2007.
Been through three HDD upgrades and now at 500GB, 4GB RAM...still plugging along wonderfully. Until the DVD drive started popping open just because...I finally had enough, took it out, opened it up and the danged front ribbon cable was so weakened it just fell apart in the middle at the bend...soooo, no real hope of repair so I felt it best to just upgrade the drive to something newer...hence does the UJ-852 and will it fit...I truly have looked, emailed vendors and cannot seem to figure out of the drives are only for the external Multi-bay II or I can remove any attached adapter and use the old mounting bracket then slide it into the bay and be done...maybe a new drive but nothing more...
I want to replace the drive on my MBP (pre-unibody) with a "Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500GB" which I intend to buy from amazon.
I still have 2more years of warranty and I don't want to void it by installing it myself I don't know if the rules may vary depending on country but I'm currently in London.
I know this has been asked many times already, but I am still confused about how well a large storage HDD can be integrated.
If I plut in something like the ultrabay, wouldn't the case be opened and let in a lot of dust into the system? I watched a youtube video with someone trying to do the same on an older Z.
He went the ghetto route and use full size SATA cable. At the end not only is there hole where the optical drive used to be
I have purchased a DVD Writer to replace the DVD-ROM the laptop came with. With some of my old laptops, these drives were held by one screw or a spring loaded lock, but this does not seem to be the case with the Acer.
which screws in which order need to be taken out to replace the drive?
if I can replace the optical drive in the Vaio SR590? It's a DVDRW, I want to put in Bluray. If Bluray drops in price, and I get a slim bluray drive, can I put it in the SR590? Looking at the computer, it seems the current drive's design is a bit different than a standard notebook optical drive. Seems like it will stick out a bit on the sides...
I've seen many posts from people who want to use a traditional 2.5" HDD in their new Z11 laptops instead of the DVD/BR drive. I have a working solution.
I picked up a Lenovo Ultrabay III adapter for a W510 I had on order and subsequently canceled after 2 months of delays in shipping.
The DVD drive is attached via a micro-SATA connector. If you haven't seen one before, here's a comparison to a regular SATA connector .....
provide explanations or pics for the under keyboard removal on this Sony Vaio VGN-N150P laptop?
I can tell you that I've not found it in all the stickies... some of the models are 'close' but NO CIGAR. Google has not helped, seems like Sony has tried its darndest to BE UNHELPFUL. Even chatted with them, no joy.
I bought a VAIO TT couple of months back - at a time when it was being removed from shelves (in anticipation of VAIO X launch). At that time I hurried and picked up the only model that was available here in Amsterdam.
Its a TT21WN model with 128 GB SSD + Optical Drive (DVD). The SSD in use is a Samsung model - MMBQE28GFMUP-MVA (Slim uSATA).
Now ofcourse 128 GB is not enough so here is what I want to do:
1. Upgrade the 128 GB SSD to 256 GB or 512 GB if possible AND
2. Replace the Optical Drive with another SSD (max capacity possible)
regarding:
- Where can I find the SSD with such capacity and good quality
- How do I replace the current SSD with the new one (guide/manual)... is it easy/hard? Should I go to a service center instead of doing it myself?
- Is it possible to replace the Optical Drive with SSD? Again how easy or hard is it, and how to go about it?
Like all 2008 MacBook Pros, my DVD burner does not work.
Can I take it out and somehow work a hard drive in that same space?
What is really annoying is that I used an external DVD burner most of the time, specifically to protect the built-in DVD burner, so when I went to resell it... I would not have to list "perfect except the DVD burner does not work."
I recently received an Acer 3680. Upon bootup, it gives a SMART error for the HDD, warning of imminent failure and a need to back up all files. According to the previous owner, it has been doing this for months. I want to repace the HDD, but have some concerns about the service / recovery partition. I recently made some back-up CD's and reinstalled Windows Vista Home Basic. This was done to wipe out the previous owner's data, plus see if the backup dics really would work. The CD's I made are the only discs I have for it.
If I buy a new hard disk drive (larger and a different model than the current one), will I be able to create a service partition on it, with whatever information is supposed to be on the service partition?
Will the backup CD's I made from the eRecovery software be able to install the OS onto a new hard drive, or will they only work with that exact model drive?
Basically, I am preferring a new HDD that will be partitioned and have the data just like the current one, but larger, with no SMART errors. Is this possible?
Am totally new here. i need to change my HD that is 100 gb came with. i bought 250 gp but i dont know how to remove old hard drive. how can i remove old hard drive from Acer Aspire 5670 ? I opened the HD lid but then lots of stuff in side under silver cover.
I need to replace the hard drive on a Pavillion G6. Unfortunately we do not have recovery discs. Is there a way to reinstall Windows 7 without having to buy the operating system?
the speakers in my laptop just stopped working for no reason what so ever, to make matters worse when i plug in headphones they were fine, it's only the speakers that don't work.
