Heya im planning on buying my XPS 16 within the next 2months.
Ive seen that there ATi 4670 costs £50 more than the 3670, and as im currently unemployed £50 is alot of money.
I play games on ps2, not laptop anymore though, so wont be needing graphics card for gaming.
But so would the 4670 actually provide any other advantages in like laptop speed when surfing net and having multiple pages open at same time, or increase speed when watching movies online? ect
Is it possible to use the GPU client with the 3670? I need a driver of 8.7 or later but I currently have 8.512. And since ATI doesn't support their mobile GPUs... is there a mod that will allow me to run F@H GPU client?
I bought a Dell XPS 16, with 2.53 GHz prossor and a 512 ATI HD3670 graphics card. I partioned my hard disk and installed XP on one of the partition.
XP installed fine, updated fine from microsoft, validate to an original copy and everything fine, except for m graphics card part of it...
i downloaded the xp driver from ATI website amd tried to install it, but itjust wouldn't do it....i tired display only drivers, the full catlyst driver packk no use....
every single time i install it it gives me a error message "setup did not find a driver compatible with your currrent hardware or operating system, setup will exit now" .....
I recently installed ATI Tray Tools on my SXPS 1640, and found out that the clock speed of my GPU is set to 400Mhz. This seems sort of low, because on AMD's website it says that the Mobility Radeon 3670 has a core clock speed of 680Mhz.
1.) Would it be safe (or possible) to raise the clock speed back up to 680Mhz?
2.) Did Dell do this on purpose to prevent overheating?
Oh, and I'm currently using the Catalyst 9.11 driver (modded with MobilityModder).
should I buy the Dell XPS 1640 (P8600, ATI 3670). I intend to use the Dell XPS 1640 for web surfing, watching movies, and play some light games online. Would my Dell XPS 1640 with ATI 3670 will have these problems like overheating and throttling?
After reading those horrible stories about XPS 1640 like overheatinga and throttling). I am not so sure about buying them.
I've owned my studio xps 1640 for about a month now. Had zero issue with it. Yesterday, while doing some browsing, listening to a net cast etc.
I was notified by Vista that my card had failed and was reconnecting? This did not work and brought up a blue screen telling me that if this was the first time this had happened to reboot (which it then did anyhow) so I did not have time to catch the rest.
I went to Dell's site and Dl'd every bios, chip set and urgent driver update they had. I tried the Ati update but like others have mentioned it did not seem to take. I read that someone had this card fail on their first Studio. Is this behavior a forerunner of a critical malfunction?
so tomorrow my friend will put his laptop together, (he will get the ati 3670 card, he could get the 4670 (if he paid some extra money) but he is not some super-gamer and said he could live with 3670 without any problem.
i knew that ati 3670 512mb and nvidia 9600M gt 512mb was pretty similar, but ati 3670 performs actaully better, (quite much better).
I just sold out my three week old macbook pro 15 unibody on ebay....useless filthy piece of crap...utterly over-priced block of aluminium.
And now I am typing this on my DELL studio xps 1640 .I have a simple question, Will it be extremely risky if I try to overclock my gpu, ati mobility radeon hd3670 512mb gdrr3? Also, I am a gamer, but not one of those
who faints if the fps drops by a point. I mostly play games like gta san andreas, cod4, world of warcraft, fear, soldier of fortune, assassin's creed, prince of persia, diablo, half-life, far cry , mafia, nfs etc. Is it necessary to overclock?
last night I ran 3Dmark06 on my SXPS16 with 3670 GPU, and I was surprised by the way it ran (in a negative way).
The machine is all standard Windows Vista Ultimate 64Bit as it will be replaced by a similar machine with 4670 GPU. Specs are as displayed below (only with the 3670 GPU instead of the 4670) .....
I lucked out on my exchange and ended up being given a Studio 1640 instead of an XPS M1530, I would appreciate a link to the current best driver as far as performance goes for the aforementioned card
how their system performs with WoW? cause i can't go past fair video quality, w/o the game just being choppy and unplayable. i can't even get past 30 fps, this just seems ridiculous to me. i have all the latest drivers, my pc undervolted, a cooling pad, so i doubt its overheating. i'm using W7, if anyone has any suggestions for me other than a fresh install i'd greatly appreciate it. if worst comes to worse i'll do a fresh install, but i'd rather not redownload all the i have on my laptop.
I currently have the default driver which is 8.612. Looking at the ATI, there is a new catalyst suite that came out a few days ago, version 9.8 for the 4000 mobility series. Should I download that, or should I just go for the one listed on the dell site?
I used to have a 3670 motherboard and dell gave me a 4670 and everything is great, but I can no longer see gpu temp in the monitor. I could at first and some how it's just gone now.
My dell technician ruined my laptop 1640 and they are going to build a new one for me. Shall I go for the 1647 i5-520M + 5730 DDR3 or my previous build 1640 T9600 c2d 2.8ghz + 4670 GDDR5? I've added a screen shot of the specifications.
I'm looking my XPS 1640 using GPU-Z today, and I'm really confused about the GPU code. It reads out M96, which should be mobility radeon 4650 according to this amd website:
I wanted to use the hardware acceleration on the ati 4670 but when i go to use it with powerdirector it shows it as faded, does anyone know if the drivers that dell has doesnt enable this feature on the 4670's?
I just noticed on the most recent bios update page for the Studio XPS 16 under the the Fixes and Enhancements tab it says "support new configuration with Gfx ATI Mobility Radeon?HD 4670".
This is probably an indication that the HD 3670 is going to be replaced with the newer HD 4670 sometime soon. If you are thinking about buying a Studio XPS 16 anytime soon you might want to wait.
The recent addition of the 4670 option is what sold me on the SXPS 16, but I am ok with waiting a bit to save some money.
I guess my question is: in general, how long does it take new products to appear on the outlet website? or if you KNOW when the 4670 SXPSs will hit, can you tell me that?
Hey guys I've been browsing the forums for awhile for the XPS 16. Since I don't have the throtlling problem (Thank god because of the new bios and 130 watt adapter)... I'm wondering what the best drivers are for the ATI Mobility graphics..
To be honest, I'm not getting good framerates at all..
I'm using the mobility drivers straight from ATI...
Now I see 3 options.. 1. From dell 2. From ATI Striaght 3. Desktop ATI Modded
