Dell :: E4300 Freezes When Going To Stand By
Apr 29, 2009
I bought a refurb E4300 about a month ago. I really like the design and really want to keep this laptop, but I've come across some random issues, I've never dealt with before and it's getting to annoy me.
The most recent one is when the computer sits for about 10 min (the setting is set to 10 min) and goes to standby.
The blue microsoft screen comes up and the words "Preparing to stand by" shows up and it freezes.
I can still move the mouse (I notice the pointer moving), the keyboard still works (toggle lighted keyboard), but the screen stays as is. The only way I've solved this is to do a hard reboot. Painful.
My other issue was from the other day. I didn't want to disturb anyone so I plugged in my headphones.
After that, I couldn't control the volume. None of the volume controls worked at all. In face, only one source of audio was coming up.

I'm looking for a computer set up. After some research, I'm leaning towards a Latitude E4300 (with decent specs) and the above mentioned display. The idea is to have a powerful, yet portable notebook for taking to class and mobile study sessions, then having the display function as almost a desktop computer. Has anyone had a similar set up before?

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the E-View stand and/or port replicator.
I use my E6500 with an external monitor in an extended desktop and would like a hot dock/undockable setup, and the stand and replicator sound like they would work well for this purpose.

After wake up from stand by mode my system brightness is always set 100%.
Adjustment '-' or '+' brightness in 1 degree returns it to bios values.
Anyone have similar problem?

At work we ordered a Dell Precision M4400 laptop
Processor: T9300 or T9500
RAM: 4GB
OS: vista Basic
When the laptop arrived I took out the 80GB HDD and installed a Western Digital 320GB 7200 RPM drive and created 2 Partitions so that we could dual-boot with Windows XP SP3 and another Windows XP SP3.

Is there a way to find out what laptop I actually have, a 7535 OR a 7535G.
What does the G stand for? Does it make a much of a difference in drivers if I got them mixed up?

I've got an ongoing problem when I resume from "Stand By" with my i9300. It's been an issue since I first purchased my machine,
it's consistently repeatable, and occurs regardless of which drivers I use or which combination video card / BIOS I run or whether I'm running XP or Linux.
The issue is as follows: if I close my lid or activate the "Stand By" button either through the start menu/ "Turn Off Computer" dialogue or via the keyboard; the machine will only properly resume when plugged-in.

I've read on here that the G stands for dedicated graphics. However my 7720 has a dedicated graphics card and does not have the G designation. I've never seen any explanation of what the Z stands for. So does anyone know for sure what they mean?

I've been having this problem since I received the notebook from Dell last March.
When the notebook goes into standby or hybernation mode, upon awaking, the screen becomes unreadable. The screen looks like a fractal image, swirling spirals and squares of colors.
When the box comes up that says 'This computer is locked' you can't type in the username or password lines and I have to push the power button and restart the notebook everytime after stand by or hybernation mode is used

I am thinking on purchasing a SP2309W for my M4400 but i don't know if it will fit the E-Port Replicator Plus with the E-Monitor Flat Panel Stand
what I would like to know is if anyone knows if it fits the stand (the monitor is VESA compatible?) and if the 4400 will support the max resolution of the monitor (2048 x 1152) and if I need special cables for this.

i had purchased a Lenovo y500 about a month back. I have WiFi issues when i put the laptop on sandby and then start up.When the laptop starts after stand by it sometimes shows no networks available which usually gets solved after turning wifi on and off or turnig airplane mode on and off.
although sometimes it will show the wifi network but will be unable to connect and sometimes will connect and drop within a few mins after which it wont show any networks. these issues are more frequent when on battery than charging.
I have unticked the "turn off to save power" option in the network adapter setting.happens with Bluetooth turned off also drivers are updated to latest
my newtwork card is Qualcomm Atheros AR9485WB-EG (driver version : 10.0.0.227)(date:20-02-2013) in advanced settings there is
option ................................................................................value
1.) 802.11b Preamble ........................................................ long and short/long only (currently on long and short)
2.) adhoc11n........................................................................disable/enable (currently disabled)
3.)network address............................................................. not present

When I flip to tablet or stand mode (i even get the toast notification that it's switched), the touchpad doesn't disable. I am still able to move the pointer and click. The keyboard however is disabled. I have installed the bios update, energy manager thing, and latest firmware from Synpatics.

To start I should remind everyone that i'm not a mac user. I have never owned a mac or used OSX properly before today. As such, my opinions should be taken as coming from someone who has much knowledge and experience as far as PC's are concerned, but who is a total mac n00b.
First Impressions
When I first walked over to the Macbooks I was quite taken aback. The build quality is out of this world. In fact, I immediately walked over to the latest PC laptops to compare and immediately thought "manufacturing FAIL". Really, the Macbooks are italian sports cars, and PC's are 30 year old farm tractors to use the typical "car analogy".
The Macbook
I really only had any interest in the Macbook when I first went to the Apple stand, but came away with the intention of buying a MacBook Pro. Let me explain:
The MacBook's build quality is awesome. It's solid, no creaking plastic or flexable build, completely and utterly solid. Awesome.............

I broke my XPS M1330 at work and one of the laptops the computer dept is suggesting as a replacement is the Dell E4300.
I played around with one that my colleague has. The size of 4lbs is okay, the performance seems okay for my usage pattern. However, there's a major show-stopper: the screen. I'm none too impressed by the screen, in terms of contrast and black levels. This review confirmed my impression:
Notebookcheck: Review Dell Latitude E4300 Laptop ). And it seems this laptop does not offer any screen upgrade option.
Also resolution was okay, but I wouldnt mind a bit more, although that is not a deal breaker like the other two issues.
So is there any Latitude or corporate Dell unit that would basically be an E4300 with a better screen?

Windows 7 runs amazingly on this machine (specs in sig). Though, it ran fantastic with Vista as well.
Despite my overall good experience thus far, there are a few things to note:
1) The webcam. Yeah, it works fine with AIM and what not out of the box, but I'd like it if Dell released an official Win7 driver + Win7 Webcam Central to better support the Latitudes.
2) The Ambient Light Sensor. It's a bit wonky under Win7, so I've left it disabled for the time being and manually change the brightness when needed. Again, I'd like to see Dell release a Win7 version of the ALS Utility found under their Vista drivers.

I'm in the process of trying to decide between getting an E6400 or E4300 to replace my aging Toshiba A105-4074. I'm somewhat surprised by the lack of discussion here about the E4300 compared with the huge number of threads about the E6400.
I have an E4300 here at work that I have been impressed with, so I have hands-on experience with it. I haven't had any hands-on experience with the E6400, and have only seen one briefly. While I've read lots of good things about it, I wish I could use one for a couple of days in order to get a feel for it .....

The Dell E4300 for example is generally inferior (IMO) to the Vaio Z (heavier, slower, uglier, lower quality screen, lower quality build materials, etc.) yet it costs just about the same."
Sony Z here in Canada: $2614 before tax ($45 shipping)
If you make the warranty the same (3 years), $2943 before tax + $45 shipping
Same specs, I paid $2100 before tax (and free shipping) for the Dell E4300. Is it worth the difference when the keyboard (I don't like the Z's keyboard)?
I have to wait the same week (Oct 14/15) to receive either.

Any idea if Dell will ever release an updated GPU driver to support Flash 10.1 hardware acceleration?
Currently the driver is 8.15.10.1855.
EDIT: Never mind. According to the Adobe release notes PDF, support starts with driver version 8.15.10.2021. Looks like we're outta luck until Dell releases a newer driver.

I'm interested in buying a good portable notebook and the E4300 is one of the main contenders because of the solid build, good batterly life and its weight and size
So I've been reading many mixed reviews about the latitude e4300 where many people thought it didn't live up to what you would expect from a premium business notebook with a premium price.

Curious what the main issues, complaints, etc. have been with the e4300 now that it's been out for a while. (Also, I'd love confirmation of it's actual weight.)
I was originally considering this the only potential competition to a Sony Z (as I am after light, slim but powerful/normal components). However, I've since backed off the idea of a e4300. Still

I need some advice on picking the E4300 or E6400. The pricing in my country is a little different from the US I guess. I'm stuck on deciding with which machine as the pricing is about the same (see below).

Well, the latitude E4300 is very cool, i like it, it has great design, but what the hell they were thinking about when they made the 6-cell battery ugly like this?
so i can't get it, we paid like 1500$ for great laptop and we can't enjoy it cause of just a damn battery!
don't you think it is the right time for us to ask about the bay battery for E4300 ? does anybody knows when Dell will lunch the bay battery?
i think i will not use this laptop with this ugly 6-cell batter anymore, i will throw it in a box till getting bay battery!
