I am looking for a new laptop for school, and I have been looking closely at the Dell Studio 15.
I have a couple of member discounts on Dell.com (I have built this same one on the dell website), but they don't seem to do enough to match the low cost of this one from BestBuy:
I've been looking for a new laptop from Dell, and had trouble deciding between the Studio XPS 13, Studio 1555, and Inspiron 1440 (all configured to similar specs).
I'm leaning more towards the SXPS 1340 because of the build quality and size, and I just have a couple of questions before I make the order:
1. Heat: Besides the physical design aspect where the screen partially blocks the exhaust vent, the BIOS update from Dell supposedly "fixes" the heat.
But does anyone know what exactly the BIOS update does? I'm just afraid that it discreetly clocks the CPU/GPU at a lower speed to control the heat...does anyone have benchmarks showing the before&after performance of the BIOS update? .....
I have two friends that have them and I like them. I really like the fact they have true HD screens. Although When I build it on Dell's site I dont get an option for HDMI. My one friend has an HDMI port on theirs.
Anyways are they any good?
I would get the 2.20 Core i3 version i think. 4gig ram. and I think the stock intel HD graphics.
I am interested in the Dell Studio 15, but I'm in no rush to purchase. Is this a good time to spend the money? Is there a hardware upgrade or a new release looming?
I recently got a Studio 17" WUXGA screen and as i was testing out my computer and following Les's removal bloatware guide [big thanks] and reading many of the posts in the Studio owners thread I tried to identify my screen.
I've been doing a lot of research lately and I have come to the conclusion that as far as the specifications go, the Dell Studio XPS 13 is what I want.
However, I am concerned about the overheating in the laptop, as reported by some reviewers on the net. I don't mind if I can't keep it on my lap (my dv6137tx couldn't be kept on the lap for too long either!), but I am concerned about failure rate increasing due to heating.
Also, I am wondering if its a good value for money given that it is costlier than the Studio XPS 16, 17, etc and still comes with only a 13.3" screen. I would be happy to hear from other Dell users, Studio XPS 13 owners in particular.
The rough configuration I was looking for before coming across the Studio XPS 13 was:
1. CPU = Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 (or better), [1066 Mhz FSB with 6 MB L2 Cache preferable] 2. Memory = 3GB DDR3 at 1066 MHz 3. Graphics card = nVidia GeForce 9500 or higher 4. Hard disk = 250 GB, 7200 RPM 5. Screen size = 15.4" or higher 6. 8x DVD ± RW Drive 7. Internal Modem 8. Integrated 10/100/1000 Ethernet card 9. Integrated Wireless adapter
Oh and I am interested in running Linux.
The Latitude E6500 cannot be shipped with the GeForce 9500 card and I am getting it only with an nVidia Quadro NVS160, which I understand is as fast as the GeForce 9200 .....
It comes with an Intel Core i5-430M Processor (2.26Ghz, 4 Threads, Turbo Boost up to 2.53 GHz, 3M cache) while Studio 15 has an i3 processor(2.13 Ghz). It has the same Graphics card as Studio 15 and the rest of the features are also almost the same.
I'm looking to purchase a powerful notebook for my development needs. I use MS Visual Studio 2008 (in a VMware virtual machine), currently running on my DELL Precision T7400 desktop workstation (Dual Intel Xeon X5482, 3.20GHz / 32GB RAM / 4 x 300GB SAS HD with 15,000rpm). This thing is a pleasure to work with, everything just flies, even when multiple virtual machines are running at same time.
In next months I need to spend some time developing and testing at my customer's site. Now I need something comparable to my T7400 in means of performance, but portable. My first idea was, of course, a M6500. It seems to be a very powerful beast. However, until now I have no experience with such "mobile workstations". Can this thing really deliver what it promises?
recently got a replacement for my laptop with an xps 1645. However when it got here I was having a hard time viewing the screen with the wide screen view. My current laptop has a
15.6 945p HD+ WLED LCD
However I have an option to get either a
16" FHD RGB Display in Merlot Red with leather and 2.0 MP Webcam, 1645/1647
or
15.6 FHD WLED Display in Merlot Red with leather and 2.0 MP Webcam, 1645/1647
I'd prefer to have a more normal screen size. Can anyone tell me what is the difference between these three monitors.
I am trying to decide between XPS 1330 and Studio XPS 1340. So far, the differences are - * Better video card in 1340 (256 vs 128), *
Bigger hard drive in 1330 (500 Gb w/free fall sensor vs 320 Gb), * WLED display in 1330 vs CCFL backlit display in 1340, * Backlit keyboard in 1340. The price for both are pretty same.
I have M1710 (2.33 cpu, 512 7950 gtx,2 giga ram) and am having problems with it and dell cant fix it ,, so I think am going to get a replacement (M1730) so I want to know how good is it with games,, Like call of duty 4, ghost recon advanced war fighter 2, command and conquer, need of speed.
does it lag during the games casue I read a few things about that?
is the 8700 sli good?
whts the normal temp for the cpu and v.card?
I dont know the spcification for it but I think its going to be also 2 giga ram and I'll try to get the T7700 2.4 cpu or X7900 2.8 cpu with the AGEIA® PhysX<SMALL>TM</SMALL> Mobile Technology<SMALL>TM</SMALL> processing unit
I'll use windows Xp sp2 pro
is it going to be good as M1710 2.33 T7600 2 giga ram with 512mb 7950 GTX for games?
is the speakers better than the M1710 cause there is no subwoofer for M1730 ?
I currently have an XPS 1530 and I need a new laptop as I am giving this one to the wife. This laptop has been quite good to me. A couple of questions about the XPS 16.
The XPS 1530 is the perfect size for me. How much larger is the XPS 16? Is it Substantial? I don't want something similar to the 17 inch laptops that Dell has out there...they are just too large, Any insight would be appreciated.
I generally use the machine for heavy MS Office work...Web...and Photos. So, obviously the machine is more than adequate for this. My main question is which screen to get. I'd love to get the RGB, but will this be ok for what I am doing? Is the glare bad? Are there any drawbacks to the RGB?
I read on the net there is an issue with Dell product breaking down and bad customer service. Also can anyone tell me can I play Directx10 games with medium setting on this notebook. How fast it is?
I have a Dell XPS M1530 with a 320GB HDD. A few months back when I checked how much free space I had left it showed 295GB not 320GB in total.
Currently I have 224GB out of 295GB and this doesn't seem right to me because I have nothing on my HDD except for CCleaner and and a few small programs.
I figured that so much space was being taken up because when I downloaded Firefox which is 30MB, 10GB was taken off of of my HDD, same thing happens with whatever I download. I have no clue whats going on
where can i get a cheap, yet good/ok webcam for my laptop? i am probably going to get a new laptop by the end of the year, so don't want to spend too much on a webcam. i guess i just need one to hold me over till then... thanks.
I have a 9400 that the warrenty just expired after 3 years.
I have played over 300 days of wow, transorted it to work about 50% of the time + other heavy usuage. Its copped a thrashing and wont play the good games anymore.
Is the 8600M GT good enough for games such as Battlefield 2? I read a 4,000 plus benchmark somehwere...but others were mid 3000s on 3Dmark06...That's not much, but I think it's faster than my X800 XT is in the XPs desktop which plays BF2 fine.
I'm going to be going with a new gaming desktop within a year or so, but I still want the laptop to be able to handle BF2!
I just bought a 7200 mAh battery 9 cell from ebay. It dont last a month when the perfomance drop more than a half. So Im looking for a good batt that dont go dead so easily.
This batt was great for the first days. It last about 4 hours in high perfomance playing and 6 in normal use. Now it last 1 1/2 hour playing or less.
What desks do you guys use for your gaming replacements? I have an M1730 that I bring to work every day, but when I get home I have a 24" LCD an an external keyboard and mouse and speakers to hook up, and am sick of my ugly old ikea desk. What desks do you guys use, and is it laptop hook up friendly? Pictures?
