Dell :: How Good Is The 720p XPS 16 Screen?
Feb 21, 2009I saw the thread about how bad the 1080p screen on the XPS 16 is, but what about the 720p screen?
View 10 RepliesI saw the thread about how bad the 1080p screen on the XPS 16 is, but what about the 720p screen?
View 10 RepliesIt's a P8600, 4 gig RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 512. Now the specs are great, I'm very impressed with this laptop, being able to play a game like CS Source in 720p with all settings on high with FPS over 100! (No anti-aliasing on though, but whatever, nevermind).
The screen, however, is absolutely atrocious! I'm actually shocked at how bad the screen tearing gets during videogames... honestly before I used to read complaints about screen tearing I'd always wonder what the big fuss was and now I know since I had never experienced screen tearing so bad before.
I paid a good £599 for this laptop and am seriously considering returning it. What's the point of having above average specs when they're horribly tainted by a -poor monitor?
I am not very good with resolutions and I tried doing a google search.
I was just trying to figure out if the Dell Studio 1458's 720p LED screen is as good as the 1280 x 800 LED screen on the XPS 13.
I just got the 720p screen and it looks ok but well, you know, kind of average. The text is not that crisp and the colors don't have too much contrast. I'd like to return it and get the 900p but is it that much better?
Also, is the text going to be much smaller? I spend most of my computer time reading or writing text so having it really small or always having to resize it will be a pain.
I've been re-installing Vista on my M4400 (LED RGB Screen) and it Looks to me that it is just not as White as the LED screen on my M1330.
i just love the sharpness and whiteness of the LED (Sec5441) of the 1330.
The M4400 screen is very nice and all that and the color is much truer - but it is just not white.... Have the same problem on my Dell 2408wfp - its just not white.
I have an, HP 15 Notebook PC (Product Name), Prod # is F9H61UA#ABA
I am running on Windows 8,1, 64 bit.

When I try to watch a video all I have is a green screen, audio is good.
Im getting my very first laptop I had it narrowed down to the Dell Inspiron 14 Dell Vostro 1320 and various Blue label best buy options (hp dv4).
Anyway Im close to making a decision except I have an optional upgrade to 900p I can make with the Inspiron 14.
I just want to know if i should make the upgrade to 900p? and would it actually be worth the money? Its like an extra 60 dollars. Does 720p give pretty clear concise hd quality?
Just wanted to clarify the resolution, since I can't seem to find a reliable source for answers..
Some people claim that the Studio 14z 720p has a resolution of 1366x768, while others claim that it's 1280x800.
I read in the dedicated thread for studio1555 that the 720p resolution screen is quite bad. I was wondering if anyone had one of these laptops and could take a picture of how it looks? Is it all grainy and splotchy?
View 10 Replies View Relatedjust curious. read the review that the 9-cell can last 4 hours. wondering how the 6-cell will last.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm putting my order in for an XPS 16 next week. Spec:
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo P8600(2.40Ghz, 1066MHz, 3MB)
4096MB 1067MHz Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM
1GB ATI® Radeon™ HD 4670
320GB Free Fall Sensor (7200RPM) Hard Drive
Internal DVD+/-RW (DVD & CD read and write)
However, I'm pondering the screen size. 1080p on WLED is only £10 more expensive than 720p; but I'm wondering if it's worth it. I mean, 141DPI is massive over the 97DPI on the 720p panel, but can one see such small and finer detail on a relatively small screen? .....
how many of you have used this laptop to play fairly demanding games like Counter-Strike Source or Call of Duty 4 at 720p? Have you had any issues with it?
I recently returned a refurbished Studio 1555 because I was unhappy with the severe screen tearing issues I experienced. I know the refresh rate of the monitor is only 60 Hz, but I've used a 60 Hz screen before and never had I witnessed screen tearing so bad. At one point I turned on V-Sync in CS: Source, and my FPS fell to 30. With a 60 Hz screen, the lowest it should go is 60 FPS.
I'm currently looking at other Dell Studios and before I buy one I want to certify that it was just a faulty screen that I received with the laptop.
I just had a few Dell Studio 1555 questions. Some were resolved from reading other threads, but others (which I'll ask here) were not.
1) The Dell Studio 1555 can be :
720p = 1280x720
900p = 1600x900
1080p = 1920x1080
Which do you recommend? Are there pictures available to see what the screen would look like? I'll be using this computer for light gaming, mostly schoolwork, and some movie watching.
2) What upgrades do you consider needed for the Dell? Like the Creative sound upgrade for $20 (CDN), or things like that .....
I hav a 3 months old Studio 1555.
T6400
4GB RAM
320 HDD
256 MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570
1366 x 768 LED screen.
When I had bought this laptop, 720p was the only screen available in my country but now they are providing 1080p too.
Dell has agreed to upgrade screen from 720p to 1080p.
Ironically the remote diagnostics technical guy himself was only 99% sure of success, not 100%.
When the screen was changed last week, the newer screen looked too white and faded, right from the system boot up. When Vista loaded, it first showed the older 1366 x 768 resolution then automatically adjusted to the native resolution 1920 x 1080.
however the screen looked same i.e. very white, faded, not so clear and colors almost washed out. Screen was checked twice but showed same result So i had to keep the original 720p only. Technician thought that the screen was faulty so sent it back .....
MasterShroom got me to change my mind from 900p to 700p for the Studio 1555 laptop I'm getting. Eventually my mind told me "900p! 900p!". So I made this thread.
Please post a screenshot (print+screen) of your desktop if you have both:
1. Dell Studio 1555, and
2. 720p, 900p, 1080p screen
Please state which screen it is (720, 900, or 1080) and if you want, let us know how you like it
I have a Studio with the ATI 3450 with the T5750 and I was wondering if it would be able to handle movies at that quality.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just bought a Full HD LCD (SAMSUNG LE32B553) when I connect with HDMI to my Vaio FW11M I can only choose 720p in HDMI Resolution Setting menu.
Its that normal? I have Windows7 x64
How can I get the exact resolution of 1360x768 (720p) in my HP dv2700 using the HDMI cabel? I currently have the 179.48 drivers installed and I couldnt figure a way to get a 1360x768 !? I tried using customs resolution but it wont work, the TV (samsung) keeps giving me a 1920x1080 which is not the native resolution.
I also own a desktop with an Nvidia 8800gt graphics card and it recognizes the 1360x768 resolution immediately, I dont why this is happening since both the laptop and desktop use similar drivers?
I was looking into buying a dell d830 With 2.5GHZ Core 2 Duo, 4GB's and Windows 7 with Microsoft Office 7 and CS3, Is that any Good?

I currently have an XPS 1530 and I need a new laptop as I am giving this one to the wife. This laptop has been quite good to me. A couple of questions about the XPS 16.
The XPS 1530 is the perfect size for me. How much larger is the XPS 16? Is it Substantial? I don't want something similar to the 17 inch laptops that Dell has out there...they are just too large, Any insight would be appreciated.
I generally use the machine for heavy MS Office work...Web...and Photos. So, obviously the machine is more than adequate for this. My main question is which screen to get. I'd love to get the RGB, but will this be ok for what I am doing? Is the glare bad? Are there any drawbacks to the RGB?
I read on the net there is an issue with Dell product breaking down and bad customer service. Also can anyone tell me can I play Directx10 games with medium setting on this notebook. How fast it is?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have two friends that have them and I like them. I really like the fact they have true HD screens. Although When I build it on Dell's site I dont get an option for HDMI. My one friend has an HDMI port on theirs.
Anyways are they any good?
I would get the 2.20 Core i3 version i think.
4gig ram.
and I think the stock intel HD graphics.
I have a Dell XPS M1530 with a 320GB HDD. A few months back when I checked how much free space I had left it showed 295GB not 320GB in total.
Currently I have 224GB out of 295GB and this doesn't seem right to me because I have nothing on my HDD except for CCleaner and and a few small programs.
I figured that so much space was being taken up because when I downloaded Firefox which is 30MB, 10GB was taken off of of my HDD, same thing happens with whatever I download. I have no clue whats going on
where can i get a cheap, yet good/ok webcam for my laptop? i am probably going to get a new laptop by the end of the year, so don't want to spend too much on a webcam. i guess i just need one to hold me over till then... thanks.
View 7 Replies View RelatedThe new Dell Studio 15s ship only with facial recognition.
I am wondering how secure is this? As in the past I have heard some software will authenticate even a photo of the person..
Is the webcam in the laptop enhanced for the purpose of detecting a real person's face?..
I have a 9400 that the warrenty just expired after 3 years.
I have played over 300 days of wow, transorted it to work about 50% of the time + other heavy usuage. Its copped a thrashing and wont play the good games anymore.
