MasterShroom got me to change my mind from 900p to 700p for the Studio 1555 laptop I'm getting. Eventually my mind told me "900p! 900p!". So I made this thread.
Please post a screenshot (print+screen) of your desktop if you have both:
1. Dell Studio 1555, and
2. 720p, 900p, 1080p screen
Please state which screen it is (720, 900, or 1080) and if you want, let us know how you like it
I just had a few Dell Studio 1555 questions. Some were resolved from reading other threads, but others (which I'll ask here) were not.
1) The Dell Studio 1555 can be : 720p = 1280x720 900p = 1600x900 1080p = 1920x1080
Which do you recommend? Are there pictures available to see what the screen would look like? I'll be using this computer for light gaming, mostly schoolwork, and some movie watching.
2) What upgrades do you consider needed for the Dell? Like the Creative sound upgrade for $20 (CDN), or things like that .....
I hav a 3 months old Studio 1555. T6400 4GB RAM 320 HDD 256 MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 1366 x 768 LED screen.
When I had bought this laptop, 720p was the only screen available in my country but now they are providing 1080p too. Dell has agreed to upgrade screen from 720p to 1080p.
Ironically the remote diagnostics technical guy himself was only 99% sure of success, not 100%.
When the screen was changed last week, the newer screen looked too white and faded, right from the system boot up. When Vista loaded, it first showed the older 1366 x 768 resolution then automatically adjusted to the native resolution 1920 x 1080.
however the screen looked same i.e. very white, faded, not so clear and colors almost washed out. Screen was checked twice but showed same result So i had to keep the original 720p only. Technician thought that the screen was faulty so sent it back .....
I just got the 720p screen and it looks ok but well, you know, kind of average. The text is not that crisp and the colors don't have too much contrast. I'd like to return it and get the 900p but is it that much better?
Also, is the text going to be much smaller? I spend most of my computer time reading or writing text so having it really small or always having to resize it will be a pain.
I read in the dedicated thread for studio1555 that the 720p resolution screen is quite bad. I was wondering if anyone had one of these laptops and could take a picture of how it looks? Is it all grainy and splotchy?
Im getting my very first laptop I had it narrowed down to the Dell Inspiron 14 Dell Vostro 1320 and various Blue label best buy options (hp dv4).
Anyway Im close to making a decision except I have an optional upgrade to 900p I can make with the Inspiron 14.
I just want to know if i should make the upgrade to 900p? and would it actually be worth the money? Its like an extra 60 dollars. Does 720p give pretty clear concise hd quality?
It's a P8600, 4 gig RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 512. Now the specs are great, I'm very impressed with this laptop, being able to play a game like CS Source in 720p with all settings on high with FPS over 100! (No anti-aliasing on though, but whatever, nevermind).
The screen, however, is absolutely atrocious! I'm actually shocked at how bad the screen tearing gets during videogames... honestly before I used to read complaints about screen tearing I'd always wonder what the big fuss was and now I know since I had never experienced screen tearing so bad before.
I paid a good £599 for this laptop and am seriously considering returning it. What's the point of having above average specs when they're horribly tainted by a -poor monitor?
how many of you have used this laptop to play fairly demanding games like Counter-Strike Source or Call of Duty 4 at 720p? Have you had any issues with it?
I recently returned a refurbished Studio 1555 because I was unhappy with the severe screen tearing issues I experienced. I know the refresh rate of the monitor is only 60 Hz, but I've used a 60 Hz screen before and never had I witnessed screen tearing so bad. At one point I turned on V-Sync in CS: Source, and my FPS fell to 30. With a 60 Hz screen, the lowest it should go is 60 FPS.
I'm currently looking at other Dell Studios and before I buy one I want to certify that it was just a faulty screen that I received with the laptop.
Can an owner of a Studio 1555 with a 1080p screen please tell me what other resolutions besides the native are available? (in windows settings and ati ccc)
I'm gettin a Vaio FW as a replacement to my FZ. The only question I have now is wheter I should get the Xbrite-ECO 1600x900 or the FullHD 1920x1080 screen.
Will the 1920 be too small to actually use? Also my FZ is Xbrite-Hi Color, the sharpness and contrast and colors are VERY important to me that's why I never got an ECO display. Is this 1600x900 "ECO" like all "ECOs"?? (narrower viewing angles, less vibrant colors than Hi Color and so on..)
Or are they the same screen with different resolutions only?
I'm putting my order in for an XPS 16 next week. Spec:
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo P8600(2.40Ghz, 1066MHz, 3MB) 4096MB 1067MHz Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM 1GB ATI® Radeon™ HD 4670
320GB Free Fall Sensor (7200RPM) Hard Drive Internal DVD+/-RW (DVD & CD read and write)
However, I'm pondering the screen size. 1080p on WLED is only £10 more expensive than 720p; but I'm wondering if it's worth it. I mean, 141DPI is massive over the 97DPI on the 720p panel, but can one see such small and finer detail on a relatively small screen? .....
Does anyone know if the 900p screen on the inspiron 14 is the same as the one on the studio 14z?
It seems like people here are saying the screen on the 14z is great and I was wondering if the same panel is used in the inspiron 14, as that would be the laptop I'd like to buy.
As per the thread title does anyone know if the Studio 1557 is available with a 900p screen in the UK? It's not listed on the site as an option but I wondered if anyone had asked them as it seems to be available to people ordering in the US.
I think I'll find the 720p screen too low res but I'm concerned that the 1080p will be too high for a 15 inch screen hence the query.
I have been looking to buy a laptop for a while, and would prefer to go with an i7 model, hence I am looking at the studio 15 as Dell is the only company to have i7 laptops available in Australia. For some reason the options for inbuilt 3g and a 1600x900 screen are available on the model with the old processor but not with the i7.
The normal resolution screen will likely be too low so I am not going with that. Is 1080p on a 15" screen able to be used for word processing and general office tasks? This laptop will be an all in one - office use, multimedia and a music production laptop.
Should I go out of my way to find a 1080p 15" laptop to trial.
If I have a 1080p/5.1 source on my laptop (BD, .mkv, etc.), will I be able to output that signal via the HDMI port?
I've read about some laptops only supporting HDMI video/not supporting HD resolution output/HDCP issues and just want to confirm that the Studio is capable of this.
I've been reading the threads for a while and wanted to get some more opinions on the 1555 vs SSE. I know the SSE is basically the 1537 with the edge to edge monitor.
I placed my order for the SSE last week with an estimated delivery date of 6/15 I could cancel my order and go with the 1555 with an estimated ship date of 6/01. what do you think. I have ~$1000 to play with ......
I am about to order a Dell Studio 1555 tomorrow. It is a graduation present and I plan to be using it (hopefully) for all of college..........................
I got it in November, sometimes when i go to ANY of my browsers to view pages with flash. The whole browser freezes and crashes, so i start it up again and go to the page, and crash again.. so i try to use another browser (i literally have chrome, Firefox, safari and IE) all of them do the same exact thing.. and once it crashes there's no way to get it back up unless you restart. It gets very annoying having to restart my laptop about 5 times a day. I've done everything, uninstalling flash player, reinstalling it, reinstalling browsers.. I've even reinstalled my OS because nothing else would work. I don't understand why this laptop has so many issues. Randomly freezes, crashes etc. Its basically brand new and i shouldn't have these issues. My old Compaq presario cq60-215dx NEVER ever did any of these thing this Studio laptop does. This laptop is about 400 dollars more than my Compaq.. Also, i dual booted Vista and Windows 7 and Vista is a hell of a lot faster, it boots up faster and never crashes.. It just seems as if Dell did something to this OS to make it a piece.. help?
I just received my new Studio 1555 with Core2 P8600, 4GB RAM, Windows7 64Bit.
It freezes up on me at lease twice daily. I can't spot the problem, it has froze once when using excel, many times watching youtube videos and once using a tax software.
Everything just hangs and freezes. Can't do anything, have to hold the power button down. A few times when youtube froze, the sound stayed but in a frozen state.
What can it be?
Dell sent me some additional ram to upgrade to 8GB but that hasn't helped.
I have updated all drivers.
Please help. I'm tired of waiting on the phone and going through with Dell for hours and hours.
