as the title says im having bother getting the laptop to play a rip of 300 in 1080p the file format is mkv
i have all the usual codecs installed and i have tried it with wmp and vlc media cetner edition and cant seem to get it to work smoothly
Has anyone had their Studio 1747 with a 1080p screen crash while playing 1080p video full screen?
I tried playing a movie trailer full screen in 1080p on youtube and mine crashed.
I have a new 1647, I did a clean install of Windows 7, updated to latest Dell BIOS for this laptop and currently I am plugged in via direct connection (battery taken out) to a 130W power adapter.
I am using VLC to playback a 1080p anime video. For the most part, video playback was smooth up until like 10 minutes ago. Laptop is noticibly warm, VLC keeps buffering. I'm assuming it's throttling .....
Will the M1330 HDMI output 1080p video and 5.1 audio at the same time? I can't seem to find the answer to this. I'm planning on getting a Plasma TV with a DVD 5.1 Audio system.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI recently picked up a Compaq Presario CQ40-332TU - it's pretty much a bottom of the barrel bargain laptop, I know, but I was pleasantly surprised at how well it handled playback of 720p video, even output over HDMI to a 720p HDTV.
The relevant specs are as follows:
Intel T3400 (2.0GHz)
2 GB RAM
GMA 4500MHD
Running video through:
Quicktime 7.6.4
VLC 1.0.3
My question is, can this computer play 1080p video? My understanding of the integrated video card is that it SHOULD be able to handle 1080p playback quite smoothly. However, I can't ever seem to get it to run for more than 10 seconds at a time without dropping frames and getting video lag and severe ghosting / pixelization and artefacting. I'm currently running the RC1 of Windows7 (I'm waiting for the prices here in the Philippines to drop as they're a bit exorbitant)
I got my E6400 + regular dock few weeks ago.
I'm working with Windows 7 64bit.
When the dock is connected and I'm transfer files from computer in my network to the E6400.. The fan start work at full power and it's very annoying
my temp is:
Core 0 - 33C (89F)
core 1 - 36C (95F)
ACPI - 42C (106F)
HDD - 44C (111F)
the processor is T9550 (I'm undervolting the processor)
My XPS M1330 is about a year old, I run windows XP, and I use the copper mod since it used to overheat when playing games. It's been perfectly fine for the last few months though.
Recently, sometimes when I try to play a video file or open specific programs (so far, photoshop and certain games) the screen turns bizarre colors and then quickly crashes .....
I have been looking to buy a laptop for a while, and would prefer to go with an i7 model, hence I am looking at the studio 15 as Dell is the only company to have i7 laptops available in Australia. For some reason the options for inbuilt 3g and a 1600x900 screen are available on the model with the old processor but not with the i7.
The normal resolution screen will likely be too low so I am not going with that. Is 1080p on a 15" screen able to be used for word processing and general office tasks? This laptop will be an all in one - office use, multimedia and a music production laptop.
Should I go out of my way to find a 1080p 15" laptop to trial.
Can an owner of a Studio 1555 with a 1080p screen please tell me what other resolutions besides the native are available? (in windows settings and ati ccc)

I just had a few Dell Studio 1555 questions. Some were resolved from reading other threads, but others (which I'll ask here) were not.
1) The Dell Studio 1555 can be :
720p = 1280x720
900p = 1600x900
1080p = 1920x1080
Which do you recommend? Are there pictures available to see what the screen would look like? I'll be using this computer for light gaming, mostly schoolwork, and some movie watching.
2) What upgrades do you consider needed for the Dell? Like the Creative sound upgrade for $20 (CDN), or things like that .....

When I had bought this laptop, 720p was the only screen available in my country but now they are providing 1080p too.
Dell has agreed to upgrade screen from 720p to 1080p.
Ironically the remote diagnostics technical guy himself was only 99% sure of success, not 100%.
When the screen was changed last week, the newer screen looked too white and faded, right from the system boot up. When Vista loaded, it first showed the older 1366 x 768 resolution then automatically adjusted to the native resolution 1920 x 1080.
however the screen looked same i.e. very white, faded, not so clear and colors almost washed out. Screen was checked twice but showed same result So i had to keep the original 720p only. Technician thought that the screen was faulty so sent it back .....
MasterShroom got me to change my mind from 900p to 700p for the Studio 1555 laptop I'm getting. Eventually my mind told me "900p! 900p!". So I made this thread.
Please post a screenshot (print+screen) of your desktop if you have both:
1. Dell Studio 1555, and
2. 720p, 900p, 1080p screen

I've read about some laptops only supporting HDMI video/not supporting HD resolution output/HDCP issues and just want to confirm that the Studio is capable of this.
I found my old HI8 Video camera a while back & just found an Adpator at FRY's the will charge my old out dated batteries.
So I figure its time to start shooting some video again with it. on HI8.
But wonder what might be involved with pluging in my older video cameras RCA cables into my Mac & making it all download to my I-Movie or whatever I have to do?
Do I just plug it in with an adaptor & go? Or do I need some sort of program?
if it is possible to get SonicStage Mastering studio to encode output files as MP3. It appears to be limited to only WAV or DSD out.
Also has anyone found a forum anywhere of like minded SonicStage Mastering studio?
I have been remastering some CD's I produced a long time ago and really like some of the plugins in this app, but having to convert WAV to MP3 as a separate step is a pain in the ... The compressor and parametric EQ pulgins are really nice.

There is no Dell splash screen when it is turned on either so its not like the video driver went bad or something.

there are many out there that likes to dab in linux, unix, opensource, and usually those folks demand nvidia video, and will not even think twice about a rig unless the nvidia option is available..
ati video cards are very hard, if not impossible to configure with linux..i know, i have tried.....i just wonder who makes these decisions for dell, and if they even smart enough to realize this...
i went to dell laptop sales chat ,and asked them about the nvida choice -
1. don,t have info
2. might be a product shortage
3. design team made the ati decision
4. will pass along the info

Everything works fine except eSATA. I've tested in in Windows Vista 64bit and Windows 7 64bit. Same thing in both - the computer completely freezes up when it'd usually be detecting the drive after plugging in. I'm plugging in an external HDD that works fine on my other computer.
The other computer's using XP so that could make a difference. I'm more suspecting a Dell hardware or drivers issue though. I'd be interested to know if it's a problem everyone has and Dell will maybe fix it in a year or so. They've already released a BIOS update and I've got that; no change.
Wanted to know if you can upgrade the Studio 17 Laptop to the optional video card (ATI mobility 3650) that Dell shows on there web site

Beause it lags a little playing COD4
I'm looking at the Studio XPS 16 right now, because the Studio 17 doesn't have the option of coming with a 512 meg video card ( very disappointing )
If you look at the base system for the Studio 17, it's an amazing machine with the 2.4 ghz chip, for around $1,000. Crazy stuff. This is a beautiful laptop, but with only 256 megs of fram on the video card it just isn't good enough.
With that said, what other options are there for laptops with a 2.4 ghz chip, and a 512 meg card out there right now ?
Tomorrow I will be ordering the Dell Studio XPS 17.3" for 1.5k.
It comes with EVERYTHING I've always wanted such as i7, 1tb HD, blu ray, 6g ram, etc.
My only quarrel is the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670.
1) Can this card handle all current games on high/max?
2) Can I upgrade it in the future by swapping it with something better?
At least in Windows XP it doesnt.
It works in the BIOS for example.
Any ideas?
