Dell :: E6400: It's Normal That Fan Work Noisy When I Copy Files?
Sep 5, 2009
I got my E6400 + regular dock few weeks ago.
I'm working with Windows 7 64bit.
When the dock is connected and I'm transfer files from computer in my network to the E6400.. The fan start work at full power and it's very annoying
I just got my 1st macbook and was trying to burn win 7 iso file in my macbook.
1st problem, it wont let me copy and drag/paste the files from the usb, said that i do not have enough access/permission.....then the copying thingy hangs, will not close until i forcequit the finder. Then all the files in the usb flashdisk disappeared....could not be seen...cant eject it eitherhad to unplug it without ejecting .
I tried burning with my brother's old macbook (tiger) everything was a breeze, no prob except the dvd was not able to be read when i try to boot with bootcamp....
I have tried repairing permission with disk utility but that didnt work either.
Just last week I got nice E6400. Since the first day of possession I observing that right side rest pad (on DVD drive side) getting quite hot, where you start feeling good amount of heat while typing.
Just got my E6400 with the LED WXGA+ (1440X900) screen. My first reaction is what a hell! I got these lines on the screen, its almost as its only displaying every second line or something.
Maybe its the display drivers.. so i start testing different drivers but no luck, it wont change. See below for example:

Should it be like this? Do I miss the right drivers? My monitory sais General PnP, not any specific.. I'm using windows 7 x64. If its hard to see the vertical lines let me know and i'll try to get better pics.
i have a ACER Travelmate 2482WXMi, i have done a fresh install of windows XP home, i have done a full format of the hard drive, but i have issues the touchpad will not work only in safe mode. I have installed most of the drivers through safe mode, but the mouse will only work when i connect an external mouse when it's in normal mode.
Also i do get some bad sectors on the hard drive, and it takes over 2mins to shut down the comp. I havent installed programs yet, except PC Wizard 2008. Also the laptop is not the base model with 512MB ram i have added a 1gb stick and it works fine. I am thinking maybe its the hard drive. If
I recently purchased the Latitude E6400 and was wondering if there is a way to set up the fingerprint reader to work for online websites such as gmail etc. It works to log in but can it also work for other things too
I cannot type but I can use the keyboard trackpoint and trackpoint keys. I have tried changing the keyboard, but the same problem persisted. The drivers were good and I can attach keyboard via USB for full functionality. Could it be a problem with the palm rest where the keyboard attaches to or something else?
i recive my notebook dell xps 1530, it has vista home premium sp1, really i dont like vista, but i would like to do a security copy, because i paid for the license, how can do this? and, how can i use in a future because really i dont know how to do? i had an hp pavilion and it was very easy to do this,
I have already searched and followed any possible solutions I have found but I still only get about 4-5mbps either copying files onto a USB OR copying onto an SD card.
Before I enabled advanced performance in Disk policies I was only getting about 500kb/sec after that I get 4-5MB/sec
but I'm still not happy with that. My friends inspiron 15 copied the same files at 12MB/sec onto the same SD CARD!!!! I know I should atleast be getting 10.
On my xps the fan i running nearly all the time...is this normal. It runs all the time if i turn on the laptop and do nothing on it. Sometimes it stops for 2-4 min. It is quit noisy...... Are you guys xps' doing the same thing???
I got a Dell a few weeks ago and I didn't want to be left without all the right drivers etc so I just went with the install they put on it and took out all the bloatware.
Should I create a 2nd partition, and install a 2nd copy of Vista on that and then gradually migrate all the drivers and programs over to that side and then just eventually delete the first side? Would that improve performance as well?
Then when Win 7 comes out I can just upgrade to that as well.
Anyway of knowing if I would get any conflicts or missing drivers or anything? Any problems you can think of?
I just bought a latitude E6500 (intel 8600 - 2.4 GH, 3GB RAM, Samsung HDD 200 GB 7200; Vista Business) from an ebay resaler here in UK. From a one day experience I can tell that is is a beautifull machine but it is VERY NOSY all the time no matter what i do - it is like this from the time it gets turned on and stays noisy the whole time. When I put it next to my old Latitude D520 it is almost like a desktop noise. I am not sure if it is only the fan because there's no air flow coming from the radiators neither from the side one nor the vent on the bottom. I thought that there can be somehow that the fan is not working but it turned and blew very hot air for a vew seconds when i updated the BIOS. The noise is mixed with some high friquensy noises coming from where the wents and the proc is. I am confused if it is a hardware issue or it can be fixed somehow ... It comes with a 3 years warranty but i wonder if i should use the 7 day return policy and return it to the seller; which will be pityy because the machine is really beautiful..
Is there any way the DVD drive noise can be reduced? When I put in some DVD/Cds it is so loud I can't even here the sound coming out of the computer. And the all laptop vibrate , I am almost afraid it will damage the drive altogether.
The thiing is, it does not do it for all dvd/ cds. but when it does, it is pratically useless using them. And when I am in a public place it is outright embarassing!
I've been frustrated all week dealing with a new HP dv7t that arrived on Monday (9/15). The moment I powered it up, the fan started running at full speed and hours it hadn't kicked off a single time. I've never heard a notebook fan more audible or more annoying before. It would be impossible to use the system in a library or other quiet setting without distracting others. Even with fan running at gale force, the wrist rest to the left of the touchpad was always uncomfortably HOT! I did figure out how to change the BIOS setting that had the fan set to 'Always On'. But it still ran 90% of the time!
I called this morning and got my Return Authorization, so it's going back on Monday and I refused to trade it for another HP....the fan in a store model I checked out yesterday was just as loud as mine....so that puts me back to square one- looking for a new laptop!
I've decided that I'd rather have a 15.4" model than a 17", so the Dell Studio 15 is high on my list. I also love the XPS M1530, but both of the nVIDIA graphics cards offered are included in the current nVIDIA mess that's been all over the news....
So, the Dell Studio 15 with the ATI Radeon HD 3450 graphics card and either the 2.1GHz T8100 or 2.5GHz T9300 is my front-runner at the moment. But I've got a few questions for those of you with some hands on experience and knowledge of the Studio models-
What percentage of the time does the fan run during normal usage (email, spreadsheets, internet)?
Is the fan noise muted like most other notebooks? Or is it more audible?
Are there any areas of the keyboard, wrist rest or touchpad that become uncomfortably warm to the touch?
I have a whole bunch of data and stuff in "huge number" of old CDs. I want to consolidate them into 2 or 3 1Tb HDDs.
The CDs could be Data, Audio, Bootables.
I could go into Windows Explorer and do the drag & drop / Copy / Paste thing. A couple of issues. Windows Explorer is SLOW, and the STATUS it shows when copying files is not REAL. I'd like a REAL percentage status showing copier.
Something that helps me spend the least amount of time, attention on making this happen. Minimum Intervention.
Ideally it would be a program / app that does the following:
1 - Does fast copying
2 - Automatically creates new folders in a specified location as it copies & places the content of the next CD
3 - Prior to copying it asks what MODE the CD needs to be backed up > ISO, Simple File Copy, Audio (Raw / mp3), "Name the Folder".
4 - Copies showing REAL status and REAL (estimated) time left until this one is complete
5- Once completed with one CD / Disk > It NOTIFIES with Visual / Sound clue > EJECTS the Disk > Prompts again for next disk > Asks same "WHAT KIND OF COPY" question for the next disk. > Does this until all Disks are backed up - Like a BATCH of them are done.
Does some kind of Cataloging as it copies. Maybe asks for Categories / Labels / Tags.
my ipod is about to die and i need to copy all the mp3's off of it without messing up the songs names (i know if you copy/paste it renames some songs to SF57KLY or something like that). so is there a reliable program out there you guys would recommend to me for getting my songs onto my lappy? by the way, i am using windows XP. i also dont mind buying a program if i know it will work, so it doesn't have to be free.
I just got the DV3 from Costco and was wondering if my new machine has a problem. The Fan is just so noisly compared to my macbook pro. The fan keeps going high and low by itself.
I downloaded the speedfan to see my tempearture. The result is.....78 degrees C without doing anything intensive. Is there a problem or is this just how HP laptops work?
I got this 7720SE from woot 3 days ago and after i played metro2033 on day 2 problem came up.. before that the laptop was really quiet even though steaming its like silent mode . and you wont hear anything .
right now you can hear the fan sound even though i am not doing anything and when i try to open up some folders or software like Steam the scratchy sound ( not loud but annoying) came out ( the ones you hear from old computers.
i tried online support but they keep saying i have to call customer care because theres a "pending issue" with my account ...
I have a new 5721 running ubuntu 12.04 and the fan runs full speed constantly from seconds after loging in. I am using s fraction of the CPUs' power and still the fan runs full belt and is pretty noisy. I have read that Dell computers are certified to run ubuntu, but this seems to be a problem with no solution after hours of searching the web for an answer.
My Inspiron 6400 laptop has suddenly slowed down really slow. Connection speed, downloading even typing is painfully slow. I've been told my Wndows XP service pack 3 which I installed recently may be unstable and needs to be . So I need to get a copy of it to download again. My warranty has expired.
I have an HP Pavilion dv9006ea, IntelCore2CPU T5500 1.66GHz, 3GB RAM, Nvidia GeForceGo7600, Windows XPpro+SP3, Ubuntu, with a noisy fan. According to the manual there are 4 spare parts numbers. The easy part is between Intel or AMD, but do I need the fan for UMA or discrete video memory?
I have a noisy fan on my studio 1558 and on occation it blacks out and restarts. Is this an ongoing issue for this model and are their any recalls for these issues?
