View 4 RepliesMy hard drive is partitioned C:58.5Gig, D:397Gig.The C drive quickly filled up with programs. I have 100% of my files/photos/music on the D drive and have 346 gig free on D. Is there a way to increase the C alllocation as it is generally full and bogs things down.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am puzzled to see that part of my 320 gb 7200 drive is not recognized. A right click on C drive states that I have 282 GB left out of 297GB. I do not want to move forward with my install before accounting for this space. So...anyone have any advice?
As I have a Dell Studio XPS 1640 it has a a few of Dell specific driver I must install or I wil not have certain features. I am not thinking dock here. Bios ,chipset, IDT Sc. Windows grabbed the latest driver for the Radeon 3670 but not the Catalyst SW. Nor would I want it to. Has anyone dl'd the latest Catalyst suite? Any fellow xps owners out there test driven Dell's drivers on Win 7 pro yet?
I purchased a VGN-SR430J/B and I cleaned it with killdisk and installed windows 7 32bit.
This model comes with a 320GB HDD, yet when I go to my computer it says that I have 273GB free of 287GB total. So I assume the 14GB (287-273) being used is somehow the 2.5 GB Windows 7 32bit. But 320 - 287 is 33GB, where did it go? Where can I look?
I have an HP Elitebook 6390P; I remember seeing for the Thinkpads someone could remove the CDROm Drive and put a hard drive into this slot and then put into the cdrom drive.
is it possible with the HP Elitebooks?
I have had my dv5t 6 days. Every time I check, there is less and less space and I am doing nothing really but surfing and e-mailing, and trying to get the TV tuner to work right. lLast night there was 177GB free, shut it down and went to bed. Checked it after a half hour or so this morning and there was 175 GB, now here I sit in the library and I just checked it again after e-mailing and downloading a 2mb file, and there is 173 GB free. I haven't even begun to use it. Juse a few days ago there was 183.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've got a TZ-195 which is about two years old. It has a 48gig SSD drive which was just too small to accomodate data plus a biggish .pst file for using Outlook offline. I bought a TT-190 with a 128gig drive which solved the problem, and left the TZ lying around.
Now the TT is on the fritz (won't boot up) and I want to revive the TZ so I can use it while the TT is being fixed.
What is the best way to expand the storage space?
1. Swap out the SSD drive for a bigger one.
2. Plug in a 32gig ExpressCard drive.
3. Install a Mini PCI Express drive (like from an eee) in the one empty Mini PCI slot.
Easiest and cheapest by far is Option 2. But I am thinking this is going to have a very slow data transfer rate? The Express Card standard allows either USB or PCI bus to be used, but as far as I know the ExpressCard SSD drives all use the slower USB bus. Or will it not be enough to make a difference, given that all my programs will be on the main hard drive?
I'm having a problem with my SR290. The hard drive free space keeps on decreasing. Its fallen from 200 to 175gb, and I haven't installed any new programs. Is this somehow related to Vista Business and does anyone have a solution?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a newish (4/2014) Thinkpad E440 with a 500 GB HD. All of a sudden, the hard drive has filled up. I cannot account for all of the space. Here's what the system says:
Â
35.2 GB available of 452 GBApps: 31.4 MBPictures: 76.1 GBVideos: 137 MBMusic: 20.9 GBDocuments: 8.14 GBDownloads: 0 bytesRecycle bin: 0 bytesÂ
So you can see this is a wee bit over 135 GB. Where in the world is the rest of the space? Here's what I've looked at / done so far:
Â
"System Protection" is turned on and is currently using 10.48 GB. I have the max set at 3% (13.59 GB). There are currently 3 saved restore points. --> EDIT now it says it's using 5.97 GB and there are only two restore points now.I've run "Disk Cleanup" and it says I could regain 33.6 MB. Whoo-whooooo!The disk was 1% fragmented so I ran defrag.I ran the error checking tool on the drive and it said there were no errors on the drive. Now, after finishing the defrag, I've lost more space "as we speak"20.4 GB available of 452 GBApps: 31.4 MBPictures: 76.1 GBVideos: 137 MBMusic: 20.9 GBDocuments: 8.14 GBDownloads: 0 bytesRecycle bin: 0 bytesÂ
FYI: When I go to Lenovo Solution Center and click on Support and then go to Configuration History, the calender there shows the yellow triangle with the exclamation point in it for "System Events" on every single day that I use the laptop. When I click on one of those days, it shows multiple "Application Errors". This has been going on since the day I got it. I don't know if there is a log somewhere that is spiraling out of control.
Â
I forgot to say I use Kaspersky Pure 3.0 for virus software and I have it performing a Full Scan, a Vulnerability scan and a Critical Areas scan every day. I also scanned the drive with Malware Bytes and it did not find any malware. Also I am running Win 8.1 - it came that way from Lenovo.
When I empty my hard drive or delete apps or files I have less room on my hard drive. I have an Aspire V3-9809.

I have an Inspiron 1300 laptop with a 1.5Ghz Celeron M processor in. I was wondering if it is possible to replace this with a faster intel dual core processor. I have established that the celeron is in a 479 socket so would a dual core that fits in a 479 socket work.

I have 3 years old dell inspiron 1300, everything worked just fine till today morning, i can't turn my computer on without the plugging in the charger, my battery is always at 0.0% (charging),
the battery was working just fine couple days ago giving me over 1:30 hours on battery power but takes more time to charge as when it was new,
and yeah, the bat. charging LED is always on (solid Green).
Bios setup shows the battery performs normally and this what i get from the Device information (Ubuntu) :

basically I am thinking of connecting an extra monitor (19', 20' 22' ?) to my Dell Inspiron 1300 which has Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 900...
how do I go about this?
Dell Inspiron 1300, turn the power on, the three led's at the top of the keyboard flash, the power light illumintes then after about 3 or 4 seconds turn off, there is no fan noise or any other noise I can hear.
I have removed the memory, the wireless card, the hard drive and the cd rom, still same symptoms.
Also removed battery and still same symptoms.
Checked battery and power cord on another 1300 works fine.
Right now I am leading toward either a bad invertor or bad motherboard.
I am not sure if the invertor supplys any signal back to mother board to say it is powered up or not. As a test I did unplug the cable from monitor to mother board and tried to turn on unit that way, but still same symptoms.
I'm seeking feedback on a lightweight replacement for an Inspiron 1300 I once had. Something if I needed to use I could use while propped up in bed, nothing heavier than my old Inspiron 1300 which I don't know exactly how heavy it was but I need to replace it with another laptop, possible one lighter than my Inspiron 1300 which I would be using most of the time for web surfing and email. I know the lighter the laptops are the more expensive they are.
View 9 Replies View RelatedAs soon as i power on the laptop (INSPIRON 1300), the screen blinks and goes blank.
On several attempts of troubleshooting, nothing resolved.
On pressing Function+CRT/LCD, the screen is white and no other signs.
there are no beep sounds heard during the start-up process and no logos appear.
I have a problem in bootin my inspiron 14z. Everytime when I start the boot, it always stuck at Dell logo. Sometime, it said that internal hard disk drive not found to resoldve this issue, try to reseat the drive. The system was running well just until last night.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been looking everywhere for an answer to this question and can't find it. I have an Inspiron 9300 (old.. I know), and it still works great for everything I need it to do, except one thing. I have no storage space at all.
I've been looking at throwing in a new HD, preferably as large as possible.
The only problem is all the conflicting things I hear about these systems.
First off, I know that mine is an ATA model, not SATA. I'm definitely looking for storage space above all else. So whats the biggest drive this laptop will support? I've been looking at this one (Western Digital 250 GB 5400 RPM), but I've heard things about the bios only allowing hard drives up to a certain size.
I have a HP computer and I was wondering if it is possible to replace the Dell hard drive with the HP and save myself some money.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using Dell Inpsiron 1526 with 160 GB HDD (5400 RPM I think). I want to upgrade it to higher capacity.
Can you tell me if Inspiron 1526 has extra bay for 2nd hdd. If yes, can I use the 160 GB HDD with the new HDD i buy(I'm thinking to buy Seagate Momentus 7200 320 GB).
If its possible to add 2nd hdd, what extra accessories will I need? I mean the caddy, cables, etc.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 Laptop, last week when switching on the laptop I was presented with an error saying "Disk Read Error", the laptop would not boot up at all not even in safe mode.
I ran Dell diagnostics and it gave me a error code of 0146 which is harddrive related. I then attempted to repair the windows installation using chkdsk /p and /r but this seems to have made things worse! When booting up, all i can see is a blank screen
What is the MAX Size hard drive my Dell 9400 can take ?
The 9400 went down during last night and came up on the screen with this.
** Hard Drive - DST short Test**
Test Result : Fail
Error Code 2000-01-42
Msg : Unit 0 : DST Log Contains Previous Error(s)
I replaced the hard drive in my Dell Inspiron N5110 laptop. Â I need to get the programs and data files transferred to the new drive. Â I have a Repair Win 7 - 64-bit CD, made from the old hard drive -- do I use that to boot up the computer? Â Or do I use the old hard drive image that I have stored on an external hard drive?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI ran the diagnostics tools and it failed to detect hard drive. I'm trying to use a usb OS but it fails to boot too. I tried tweaking the configs in the bios setup ( sata port, etc) , yet I cannot even use an external boot drive.
View 2 Replies View RelatedHow do I tell what type of hard drive I have in my Inspiron 1520? I am pretty sure it's IDE/ATA, but I am seeing info in my web research that says SATA. Not sure which to buy. Maybe this is a dumb question.
View 6 Replies View RelatedJust brought home a Dell Inspiron 15 from Best Buy tonight. While going through Windows Explorer and trying to figure out the goofy "Libraries" thing for Windows 7, I noticed that my hard drive is partitioned like so:
OS (C): 38.4GB free of 58.5GB
Local Disk (D): 186Gb free of 229GB
Now I am always used to everything being on 'C'. When I tried to copy all my stuff over from my previous Dell 1420, it wouldn't all copy over to any of the libraries or my "user" folder (Erin) since I didn't have enough space. So despite Windows 7 setting up all these nifty folders in my "Erin" folder (C:/Users), I can't fit all my stuff there.
Is Dell partitioning their hard-drives differently? Am I nuts for thinking mine is set up weird?
