Sony :: Hard Drive Space
Aug 18, 2009I purchased a VGN-SR430J/B and I cleaned it with killdisk and installed windows 7 32bit.
This model comes with a 320GB HDD, yet when I go to my computer it says that I have 273GB free of 287GB total. So I assume the 14GB (287-273) being used is somehow the 2.5 GB Windows 7 32bit. But 320 - 287 is 33GB, where did it go? Where can I look?
Dell :: Missing Hard Drive Space
Oct 29, 2009I am puzzled to see that part of my 320 gb 7200 drive is not recognized. A right click on C drive states that I have 282 GB left out of 297GB. I do not want to move forward with my install before accounting for this space. So...anyone have any advice?
As I have a Dell Studio XPS 1640 it has a a few of Dell specific driver I must install or I wil not have certain features. I am not thinking dock here. Bios ,chipset, IDT Sc. Windows grabbed the latest driver for the Radeon 3670 but not the Catalyst SW. Nor would I want it to. Has anyone dl'd the latest Catalyst suite? Any fellow xps owners out there test driven Dell's drivers on Win 7 pro yet?

Jan 26, 2009I have had my dv5t 6 days. Every time I check, there is less and less space and I am doing nothing really but surfing and e-mailing, and trying to get the TV tuner to work right. lLast night there was 177GB free, shut it down and went to bed. Checked it after a half hour or so this morning and there was 175 GB, now here I sit in the library and I just checked it again after e-mailing and downloading a 2mb file, and there is 173 GB free. I haven't even begun to use it. Juse a few days ago there was 183.

Nov 5, 2009I've got a TZ-195 which is about two years old. It has a 48gig SSD drive which was just too small to accomodate data plus a biggish .pst file for using Outlook offline. I bought a TT-190 with a 128gig drive which solved the problem, and left the TZ lying around.
Now the TT is on the fritz (won't boot up) and I want to revive the TZ so I can use it while the TT is being fixed.
What is the best way to expand the storage space?
1. Swap out the SSD drive for a bigger one.
2. Plug in a 32gig ExpressCard drive.
3. Install a Mini PCI Express drive (like from an eee) in the one empty Mini PCI slot.
Easiest and cheapest by far is Option 2. But I am thinking this is going to have a very slow data transfer rate? The Express Card standard allows either USB or PCI bus to be used, but as far as I know the ExpressCard SSD drives all use the slower USB bus. Or will it not be enough to make a difference, given that all my programs will be on the main hard drive?

Feb 22, 2014I have a newish (4/2014) Thinkpad E440 with a 500 GB HD. All of a sudden, the hard drive has filled up. I cannot account for all of the space. Here's what the system says:
35.2 GB available of 452 GBApps: 31.4 MBPictures: 76.1 GBVideos: 137 MBMusic: 20.9 GBDocuments: 8.14 GBDownloads: 0 bytesRecycle bin: 0 bytes
So you can see this is a wee bit over 135 GB. Where in the world is the rest of the space? Here's what I've looked at / done so far:
"System Protection" is turned on and is currently using 10.48 GB. I have the max set at 3% (13.59 GB). There are currently 3 saved restore points. --> EDIT now it says it's using 5.97 GB and there are only two restore points now.I've run "Disk Cleanup" and it says I could regain 33.6 MB. Whoo-whooooo!The disk was 1% fragmented so I ran defrag.I ran the error checking tool on the drive and it said there were no errors on the drive. Now, after finishing the defrag, I've lost more space "as we speak"20.4 GB available of 452 GBApps: 31.4 MBPictures: 76.1 GBVideos: 137 MBMusic: 20.9 GBDocuments: 8.14 GBDownloads: 0 bytesRecycle bin: 0 bytes
FYI: When I go to Lenovo Solution Center and click on Support and then go to Configuration History, the calender there shows the yellow triangle with the exclamation point in it for "System Events" on every single day that I use the laptop. When I click on one of those days, it shows multiple "Application Errors". This has been going on since the day I got it. I don't know if there is a log somewhere that is spiraling out of control.
I forgot to say I use Kaspersky Pure 3.0 for virus software and I have it performing a Full Scan, a Vulnerability scan and a Critical Areas scan every day. I also scanned the drive with Malware Bytes and it did not find any malware. Also I am running Win 8.1 - it came that way from Lenovo.

Apr 4, 2013My hard drive is partitioned C:58.5Gig, D:397Gig.The C drive quickly filled up with programs. I have 100% of my files/photos/music on the D drive and have 346 gig free on D. Is there a way to increase the C alllocation as it is generally full and bogs things down.

I am going insane, on the device manager it says I have two HDs, but I think one of them has been partitioned, the one with the windows data on (C drive) the HDs in my computer are displayed as this:
I've been told of a program call 'Raid' or something, but I'm really not sure what it actually does.
I just want to know if the two smaller HDs are partitioned and if possible, how to join them up again,

Apr 22, 2009I picked up a 4730Z last week, and it has a 120GB HDD in it. I need a little more room, and am looking to add the full 4GB's of ram.
My question is which hard drive to get for this model. I'm not sure if I can use a 3.0 GB/s SATA or not or if I should get a 1.5 GB/s. I want at least a 320GB drive, but can't find any that specifically say there's a jumper option for 3.0/1.5. Search function yielded me no results either for the 4730Z specs.

Oct 14, 2014I was trying to replace a cracked screen and was having problems so tried to put the original one back in and order another one. However now when I power up the computer the front 2 lights - charging and lights come on but the hard drive doesnt even flicker nor does the wifi and the screen remains black. It doesnt even try to boot. SOmething else must have come loose or shorted I guess. Should I pull the laptop completely apart and check all connections now or what is likely to be the problem? Everything was working ok previously as I hooked the laptop with cracked screen up to a monitor and it worked perfectly before i started mucking about with the screen.

Mar 6, 2015I was given a laptop aspire v5-122p and the ALT+F12 for internal recovery is not working. The hard drive and partition seems corrupted and damaged. Windows 8 try to start but a message says there was something wrong and that it will try to fix fit but it restart and do the same in a loop. I scanned the hard drive with an application that let me run it from a usb bootable flash drive. The hard drive came with sector errors.
If i install a new hard drive, can i order an erecovery disc and install everything or do i have to do something special? i read somewhere that clean hard drives need to be prepared first with another set of tools provided by Acer. The tools provided in the link are in an ISO named "Format CD".

Nov 28, 2014I just got my Aspire V touch, so I don't understand why the Acer applications keep crashing when I try to open them. All of my other apps open fine without crashing. (Acer apps i.e.: Acer Recovery, Acer Quick Access, etc.) Why only Acer apps are crashing? I'm trying to make my recovery files.
Also, what is AOP Framework? It always crashes when my laptop is waken up from it's sleep. Can I uninstall it?

Nov 30, 2008My high school-age son was working on an English paper when something fell off a shelf and whacked his Aspire 3680 right above the hard drive bay. It started clicking and finally crashed.
The computer won't run with the hard drive installed. It makes nasty clicking sounds trying to boot, and finally beeps and powers off. Without the hard drive, the laptop powers up and runs BIOS just fine.
We can buy a new hard drive, but it seems awful to pay Acer another $20 + $10 shipping for the Vista restore disk!

Dec 30, 2014I have an Acer Aspire 5750Z notebook which has fallen out with it's best friend the 2TB USB 3.0 Seagate expansion drive. The acer does not want to communicate with the external hard drive and will freeze, crash and stop responding. When the hard drive is not connected, the Acer is quite happy infact it works faster than it did before. Here is a list of the things:
1) I have removed the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers software. The acer restarted 3 times (to be expected) and reinstalled the missing drivers.
2) I have managed to gain a limited amount of access to the seagate where I partitioned one sector but it crashed again before I have the chance to do the other, and I have been unable to access the seagate since.
3) When I view disk management, I am never able to see the seagate drive sectors E and F but occasionally after running the seagate drive settings software I will see drive E but I am unable to access it.
3) I have checked the device manager for hardware conflicts both with the seagate connected as well disconnected and there are no hardware conflicts
4) I am tempted but not sure if I should flash the BIOS with this BIOS_Acer_1.21_A_A

Oct 12, 2014i was wanting to boot from a usb stick to try out ubuntu. and acer rep told me that in order to do that, i needed to set a password in the bios system. so i did so, and turned off security to set the password. when i boot now, i get that little blue screen to put in my password, and i know what is is, but when trying to turn that off and using f2 to enter the bios normally it won't let me. it will ask me in a different format for the password.
My password that i put in is blue. and it takes me to the default screen where i can put in another password to get into windows. acer told me i needed to send in the computer and pay 100 dollars which isn't gonna happen anytime soon. i really need to get into the bios system to change the order up the boot sequence so i can try out ubunu. or any other program i want. i just tried to update the bios driver, and it still asks me for a "sato security password" just to clear the air. it has some number and letters associated with the pop up.

Feb 16, 2015I have an Aspire 5750G that started out with 1TB of disk space. Now it says I only have 100GB free of ca. 650 GB! How did 1TB turn into 650 GB?! I've been trying to use Nero Backitup 2014 to back up my drive to my NAS, and couldn't - I think the capacity shrinkage is why. (Nero tells me there isn't room on my laptop to update, even though I'm trying to update FROM the laptop to the NAS. I went through the procedure with Nero Support, and they couldn't find out why it was happening.) I've done a disk defrag, but still haven't regained the missing capacity.

OS: Win7 64 Home
Problem: My 1TB capacity (not usage) appears to have shrunk to 650 GB.
Program troubles: Nero Backitup 2014 can't deal with the missing capacity, even when I try clearing out my NAS and doing a repeat backup. The exact error message is: It is not possible to sync because the space is full at this location: (My C: drive) Check the space and try again.
Tried: Defragging, no luck.

Sep 26, 2014I have Acer Aspire 5742G notebook and I'm having problems installing the Windows 7 OS on my new SSD hard drive (I bought the SSD because the original hard drive is failing and making blue screens all the time...)For the factory restore, I'm using restore discs. I burned the discs few years back when the laptop insisted me of doing it (by using eRecovery or something, 3 dvds total).
The computer tries to install the OS with the dvds (asks to insert a dvd and then press a key). The actual problem is that the installer is just going in loops, restarting and eventually freezing in the end.. Reboot -> Acer logo -> Windows is loading files... -> Starting windows -> Reboot -> etc.That kept going for more than a hour (on the first dvd!) and suddenly it just froze on the "starting windows" screen.. So I had to reboot and star over again.I can still use my old formatted HDD, should I make new set of recovery discs or use an USB drive?
