Just bought an Inspiron 17R SE 7720 with a 32gb SSD. Started it up today and completed the 'setting up windows' bit. Opened up 'Intel Rapid Storage Technology' and it can see both of my 750gb HDD, and the 32gb SSD but there is no 'accelerate' tab available.
Incidentally, when I click on My Computer, I can also see both 750gb HDD and 32 GB SSD- i though the latter was not supposed to be visible here. Under 'Computer management' the SSD has an 8gb 'Hibernation' partition and a second usable partition.
Having read numerous posts about this already, I have checked in the Bios that Intel Smart storage is already selected.
My Inspiron 15z was just repaired today (it got a new motherboard due to a different problem that is now fixed). But now, whenever I start up my laptop, I get an error message from Intel Rapid Start Technology Manager that says "Your system does not appear to have Intel Rapid Start Technology enabled." I have never gotten this error message before. It is only now after my motherboard has been replaced. I don't understand what Intel Rapid Start Technology is and if I should have it enabled, and if so how to enable it.
I'm in the process of upgrading my L521X/XPS 15 to Windows 8. The A09 BIOS introduced UEFI booting, which I of course intend to use. However, I can't get Windows installed when Smart Response is activated in the BIOS. The installer simply doesn't show any disks - even when loading the correct drivers. Changing to AHCI allows me to install - but of course without the benefit of Smart Response. Now, the question is: is it possible to use pure UEFI and Intel Smart Response Technology on the L521X?
I have a lenovo u410 with a 500gb hdd and a 24 gb cache. Now, I am experienced with hardware and software and have built/reinstalled a lot of computers before. This time it is a bit different. I did not get my windows 8 key with the computer only the OneKey recovery. I did do a backup with this program when the computer was new and I assume it is on the hdd.
So what I want to do is to replace the hdd with a new 2,5 in ssd and keep my windows 8 licence + all the lenovo goodness ( onekey feature, keyboard shortcuts etc..). What would be the best way of doing this? Can i transfer the backup I did to the new drive?
i have lenovo G510.i have enabled the Intel Virtual Technology is enabled from BIOS but when i installled Intel Processor Identification Utility shows Status as NO instead of YES. I have upgrades the BIOS 3.09 latest one so far but still same problem
While trying to install Intel Rapid Storage Technology(IRST) Driver on my Lenovo G560 Windows 7 64bit OS it is not able to install and gives me some error regarding hardware not match or etc. error then i came to know that to install AHCI driver i have to change in BIOS Sata controller mode from 'Compatible' to 'AHCI' i tried so and then restart the system but it gives BLUE SCREEN error while windows startup logo and restart again, any solution to use Rapid Storage Technology on G560 and actually this driver was installed when i purchased the new laptop but after certain format and fresh windows installation its no more able to install, how to install it back..........
I have Dell inspiron 15r which was fine till last night . But today when I turned on there is no response . Only power light turns on. No sound of fan or hard disk . No beeps. No change in power LEDs color. I did little research on net and tries to remove static charge but it won't work. Now power light is not turning of untill I remove battery. When I holds power button for few secs power light turns off for 1 or 2 seconds and turns on after that.
My laptop takes ages and ages to open applications, new browser tabs and websites. Quite often websites I visit give me a "session expired" message. Sometimes an application will give me a message saying "program not responding" but if I stay patient and don't close it, after some time the application opens!
I have a Dell Inspiron 3521 Laptop. I get this message from My Dell:
Dell Notification about Antivirus Conflict: You have more than one antivirus software enabled. This can lead to conflicts that may impact performance.
I have bought and installed BitDefender Antivirus ... the conflict must be from Windows Defender. Maybe I should uninstall Windows Defender ... how do I do this?
I had just closed it the other night after charging it. Then there was nothing - no boot, no LED with charger, no fan. I checked and the charger is definitely functioning, so I worry that this is a problem with the motherboard.
Since it's an ultrabook, I haven't been able to remove flea power since the battery is embedded into the laptop.I wonder if it would be possible for a technician to come have a look at it ASAP?
I need to disable the optimus technology on my dell inspiron 14R 5420, but can't find a way to do it in bios. My bios version is A15. Can I upgrade to another bios with more options?
I just purchased a Dell Inspiron N5050 laptop computer specifically because I wanted a computer that would support WiDi (IntelWireless Display) to my HDTV. I had been under the assumption that all current generation laptops included Intel Wireless Display technology.
After receiving the computer, I have just discovered that the wireless network card in this machine apparently does NOT support wireless display technology. Is there a way that I can replace the network card in this machine with one that DOES support wireless display technology or at least addan additional card to the machine that supports wireless display?
I have a Dell Inspiron N5110. The Warranty ran out in July of last year so for some reason I cannot email technical support directly.I ran the Dell PC Diagnostic test earlier today, all of which passed with the exception of the SMART Short Self Test which failed. Apparently my hard drive is "operating outside of normal parameters and should be replaced". I tried this twice, once with the Dell diagnostic software installed on my laptop and once using the downloadable diagnostics from the Dell website, both had the same outcome.
I then tried the system diagnostics accessed via the F12 key on system startup. Again all passed but the hard drive test which would not run and provided the following message:
Error code 2000-0142 validation 12985 Msg Hard Drive 0 s/n (omitted), self test unsuccessful status = 7
I have read around on the support forums that the next step to try is removing and replacing the hard drive then re-running the diagnostics. If this does not solve the issue and I have to replace the hard drive does that mean I will need to buy a new copy of windows to install on the hard drive, as my laptop came with no disks? I have backed up all my important files but obviously not any programs.
what my next steps would be and what the process is should I have to replace my hard drive? I am a "noob" in this area and don't want to spending uneccassary money on parts that don't need to be replaced or buying software I don't need to replace as it is already available if you see what I mean?
I recently ran a test on my laptop(N4050).It first showed me I had a SMART extended self test failure. Then I had a hardware failure message. I have attached one of the things.May I know what am I supposed to do? My warranty has expired.
We have a new (1month old) XPS13, which will not boot up. It was being used to watch a video online, and then when that had finished, the lid was closed. When we came to turn it on again, there is no response.
The laptop is plugged in, with a light on the power pack. Holding the power button down doesn't illicit a response. I have seen some mention online of booting up into diagnostic money keeping the function key down and pressing the power button, but still no response.
There seems to be no way of telling whether there is any charge in the battery, so difficult to tell what is causing the issue.
I have installed XP on my Latitude E6500. Baseline is the ALPS Touchpad sucks, it is unprecise, slow and sometimes hangs. The worst I have ever experienced. I even had it replaced by Dell hoping to receive a newer Hardware revision but just got the same pos again so nothing changed.
What really annoys me is that when I wakeup my PC from Standby or Hibernation the Touchpad does not respond for about 20 of seconds so I have to wait.
Of course I have the latest driver 7.2.101.216 from Dell installed.
I have two identical Dell Inspiron17R 5720's with the same problem with the Quote Key. When pressed once, nothing appears on screen. Press again and both appear. Get the same result if shift key is used for double quotes.
The same results get transferred to an attached USB keyboard, so it must be something wrong internally, either in Bios or Windows 7 (SP1)'s setup of the Standard PS/2 Keyboard.
All of a sudden the SD Card Reader on E5430 laptop doesn't work When I insert SD card nothing happens. Before, a window would pop up, or I could see the SD card in my computer.
No nothing happens and it doesn't show up under my computer.
Also, under device manager -> storage controllers, not there any more.
I believe it's a O2 Micro OZ600xxx card reader. I tried installing driver, but still doesn't see SD Card when inserted.
If the SD Card reader is just dead? Or do I have a driver issue. Windows 7 Professional 64bit
i couldn't able the laptop to Turn it on, it was functioning well up to last night.
Referring to the forum i tried by removing battery and pressing the power on button for 30 seconds in-order to discharge it and then connected again to power supply but couldn't make it ON ,
The touchpad of my Lenovo G50 (i3-4010U) is not working properly (windows 8.1). Sometimes when I use the touchpad, the arrow don’t move. Until it close and open the display, it’s don’t move. In addition, this method does not always work. I have gone to options and I've turned off touchpad options "two fingers" mode, but nothing change. I have still in function an old notebook pc (from 2007, not Lenovo!), and has never had this kind of problem. I need my computer for travel work but this problem becomes very difficult my job.
when I got my 9400/E1705 I was always sad for not having the AHCI option available in the BIOS.
This was asked for so many times:
- "Notebooks BIOS should support AHCI" [url]
- "Enable AHCI in Dell Notebook BIOS" [url]
- "Please give us BIOS support for SATA AHCI mode on Inspirons!" Please give us BIOS support for SATA AHCI mode on Inspirons!
- "Give us real bios control" [url]
- "Bios release" [url]
In the Sony forum, they have found a way to activate these options even if they're not present in the BIOS:
How to Enable Intel VT and AHCI on a Napa/Santa Rosa platform Phoenix BIOS Vaio laptop ... The only item you'll need is a bootable DOS media. Click one of these links for instruction for creating a bootable floppy disk (with USB floppy drive) or usb stick.USB flash1 or USB flash2 or CDR (add modified table file to image before writing). Instructions:
1.Download symcmos and copy it to your bootable DOS media. This utility is used to modify your Phoenix BIOS settings. Also, download a DOS text editor and copy it to the media if you feel comfortable editing a file in DOS.
2.Go to the BIOS by pressing F2 during start-up, or when the VAIO logo appears, and reset the settings to factory default. Save and reboot.
3.Go back to the BIOS and enable the boot from external devices option. Save and reboot.
4.Press ESC when the VAIO logo appears to bring up the boot selection menu and select the bootable DOS media. At the prompt, type "symcmos -v2 -lDefault.txt", without quotes, and note that there's no space in between the flag and filename. This will create a literal symbol table from the NVRAM named Default.txt which contains all the current BIOS settings. Reboot by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del. If that doesn't work, hold the power button until the notebook turns off.
5.Use the DOS text editor (or boot to another OS and use a text editor there) to edit the generated Default.txt file. Change the following lines and save the modified file to something else (e.g. modified.txt):
i would like to upgrade my video card, if it is possible and if it is worth it. my 1720 has the mobile intel 965 express chipset family. ive seen sigs (dr650se and someformofhuman) stating that they have the nvidia 8600m gt and was wondering if this is compatible with my 1720.
also i found out through this forum that i can upgrade my cpu (which is the measly t5450 1.66 ghz) to the beastly t9300, and add a 2nd hard drive (which is my first step in upgrading this dell because i only have a 160 gb drive).
i was looking for a new laptop until i came across this forum and found out the possibilities of my dell. i decided to stick with this and just upgrade it! thanks for the insight, and thanks in advance for all the help that i will be asking for!
