Dell :: Inspiron 1520: Upgrading Cpu From T5450-T7500 Change Gaming Perfomance- Has 8600m Gt
Sep 23, 2009
Just like the title said, will upgrading my cpu from the T5450(1.66ghz) to a T7500(2.2ghz) change my gaming performance or is the T5450 enough power to fully run my videocard.
I OC my videocard by 30% so the clocks are 617.5Mhz/520Mhz instead of 475/400mhz, does the ocing get bottle necked by the weak cpu?
Is it worth the $100 to upgrade my cpu or should i just save the money and buy a new laptop because my 1520 is almost 2 years old but it's a very good laptop, i can get 4700 and sometimes even 4850 on 3dmark06.
ok so the title says it all im getting all the vertical lines, this ty 200 dollar ddr2 card was the worst purchase for this laptop.
Read all threads about dells extended warranty for this issue. everyone talks but is there a way to get it replaced by dell I called customer service, the well known joke of dell, and i hung up on them about 5 min into convo.
Me and my sister have 2x 1520's and I'm looking to upgrade my RAM. Both laptops have 2gb of RAM and still contain the original build from Dell.
I have a few questions...
1. They're both running Vista Home Premium -- what's the most RAM it can handle? 2. Do they contain 2x 1gb sticks, or 1x 2gb stick?
I know there's tons of different RAM available, so could someone please link me to a 2gb stick that'll fit and work in my laptop? The cheaper the better, but ideally with a decent warrenty and from a respected company if possible.
I spoke with a Dell technician and they told me that the reason my computer was randomly shutting off was because it was overheating and that I needed to replace my heatsink and fan, each costing around $12. I was wondering if buying a notebook cooler might be a better way to go. Any notebook coolers that anyone recommends?
Finally, does anyone know what a technician would charge to replace a heatsink and fan?
I downloaded a program called speedfan and it gives me the following temperatures on my notebook:
HD0: 45C Temp1: 84C Core0: 63C Core1: 63C
Core temperatures moved up while computer was put to heavier use if it makes any difference:
Core 0: 76C Core 1: 74C
Anyone know if this is normal? Computer isn't working too hard right now.
I am replacing the installed Seagate Momentus 160 gb 5400 SATA disk with a Seagate Momentus 320gb 7200rpm SATA hard disk as I need the extra space to hold my growing itunes collection and feel the extra speed would also be welcome.
I have the original Dell installation disks (Operating System, drivers etc), the installation disks for the subsequently installed software (other than the freebies including iTunes etc available on the net) and have backed up all my critical data to an external hard drive using the vista backup facility for subsequent restoration once all the software has been installed.
I will of course keep the 160 gb drive available with all it's data intact as a secondary safeguard until I have satisfactorily completed the installation and testing of the new disk.
I have a Inspiron N4110 and I was wondering if I could upgrade or change my specs to increase gaming performance.
HERE ARE MY SPECS:
Windows 7 Home premium 64-Bit (6.1, Build7 7601)Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2350M CPU @ 2.30GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.3GHz6144 MB RAMDirectx 11Intel(R) HD Graphics family32-bit Right now
I have a acer 5920g with a 8600m gs 256mb ddr2. my bios is last version 1.3813 and my vga bios version is nvidia 60.86.54.00.27. The chipset is pm965. The vga is MXMII
I have obtained a 8600m gt 512mb ddr2 from a compal fl90 free. It's MXMII too
I've installed 8600m gt in my acer and when run it only see a black screen. Laptop is runnig but i don't have any image.
I've read somethig about a acer vga bios for the 8600m gt but i don't know what i've to do.
I don't know if i have to install this bios in the 8600m gt in another laptop. There is something patch for this card?
This vga bios is possible to install in any 8600m gt?
I have purchased a mobility hd 4650 from an Acer spare parts source and intend to replace my 8600m GT with it.
The order has been shipped and will hopefully arrive within 2 weeks.
Based on this thread (5920G Upgraded To...Radeon HD 4650?!) I should be able to simply install the card physically (I've disassembled this laptop for a processor upgrade before) and then just throw on the drivers (the device comes with the Acer vBIOS preloaded)..................................
I was thinking of trying to upgrade a couple of parts of my Dell 1520, namely the hard drive and cpu (i've been told the 8600M GT is the best graphics card the 1520 can handle?).
Now I don't have a clue about what processors I'm able to upgrade to whatsoever, so if anyone can stear me in the right direction that would be fantastic. My current Dell 1520 uses an Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 @ 2.0GHz if that helps at all?
As for the hard drive, is the "Western Digital 320GB 2.5" Hard Drive Scorpio Black SATAII 7200rpm" drive compatible? I think the 1520 uses SATA right?
I ordered my 9400 with an ATI X1400 and now that I see from reading this forum that it is considered a pretty lame GPU I was wondering:
Since I don't play games on my laptop (except Civ4, which runs fine) should I even care that my GPU sucks. Is there anything other than gaming that the GPU does that would make me consider upgrading. I have a 2GHz CPU and 2 gigs of ram and I'm really quite impressed with my first laptop. I'm just one of those idiots who gets jealous when he notices that his "toy" has an inferior component in it.
i have a xps m1730 with a t7500 specs in the sig after buying a few pu hungry games i realized that something had to be done so can i replace an x9000 to replace my t7500?
I just wanted to double-check if it's possible to drop in a Santa Rosa "refresh" into an older M1300 (Nov. 2007, std. SantaRosa w/ T7500, latest BIOS) and if it makes sense to...
I can buy a "boxed" T9300 for about €300, which does not exactly translate into a cheap upgrade so before I do so, I'd like to know if anyone's done it and if the performance boost is worth it...
So I'm trying to upgrade my ram, right now I have 2Gb that the system sees, however when I crack open the back all I see is 1 slot that has 1 chip in it which is a 1GB chip...
Recently my fan has been making a lot of noise whenever it starts up.
Sometimes it sounds like it's getting caught on something as it spins and it trips for a few seconds. Other times it makes a high pitched, not particularly loud but noticeable, noise,
or it'll sound like it's blowing out a lot of air, usually more then it really is. It's also made a sort clicking sound before, similar to the noises a processor on a normal computer might make when loading or booting or something, but I know it's for sure coming from the fan
First of all I wanna say that I'm a new member on this site. I've checked it out a few times and it seems that people get good help and tips so I decided to register too.
Anyway I bought an inspiron 1520 right about 2 years ago. It's my first laptop and I havent had any troubles with it whatsoever and it's been surving me great.
However 2 years of wear and tear have taken its toll on the outside plastic cover of the computer. One of the corners is cracked (the one to the right of the volume and play/pause buttons) the metal part is a bit bent but it's nothing serious .......
A month after getting my new toshiba (insignature) and letting my sister being to use my old laptop because her 9 year old system decided to fail at life.. the computer decides to fail completely.
I have no idea what the issue is... The laptop will turn on, and turn on I mean the power light will come on for a second or two.. and then the light with go back out and the computer is completely off
I have an Inspiron 1520 with a GeForce 8600M GT graphics card. I spilled some coke on it some time ago, and had to replace the keyboard, and also the media buttons don't work really well, so I purchased a new palmrest.
My problem is, that the TV-Out doesn't work anymore... although...it does work, in the way that I can figure out some image on the TV, but it's all black&white and flickering. Also, when Windows boots up, I can't see the "Welcome" screen, it's just black,
and suddenly the desktop appears with all the loading apps. It's 100% TV-Out related, because I recently reinstalled Windows, and it went just fine until I tried again the tv-out (which still did not work).
I'm having some problems with my charger. When I plug it in and turn the laptop on it says that it couldn't recognize the charger and won't charge, the laptop itself works, however. Sometimes it does charge, but rarely. I'm in a little hurry and didn't search thru the forum. Apologize if this issue was answered before.
I just uploaded this video of my problem, you should be able to stream it, if anyone has any problems then let me know. And sorry for the quality, I only have a camera phone to hand, you should be able to see what happens anyway...hopefully

Basically what happens is, I press the power on button of my machine, everything appears to be normal, the power LED turns on, the Hard drive activity LED flickers on and the DVD drive "clicks" (im sure some Dell owners know what I mean by this) BUT then all the lights go out (besides the power) and nothing is shown on my screen, no BIOS loading, nothing.
Does anyone know what might cause this?
I tried yesterday to get it to work but after about 7 hours I just gave up, nothing I did changed anything (I thought the CPU/GPU may of come unattached from the motherboard but after reseating them the problem was still there
I reformat my Dell inspiron 1520..first i installed the dell media direct and install the OS..
then i installed the driver...then after that my laptop keeps on having error..it says an error has occured..
windows will automatically shut down to prevent damage..keeps on having error..i dont know what to do ( help pls...i must use the safe mode to prevent this error
After installing XP media center on my inspiron 1520 i am unable to get it to recognize usb devices. I looked in the device manger at the drivers and it is missing some for the usb. I am not sure which one to download. I tried installing some and they did not work. I went to dell's site and did not find anything.
can't see a thing on the screen. He left the laptop on hibernate for around 3 hours and when he came back, the screen was very dark.
He says he's restarted several times since then and the only thing which seemed to "light up" the screen was taking the power out; allowing the laptop to run on battery. However, just 5 minutes ago, even though the laptop was on battery, the screen has gone dark. He can barely make out MSN conversations by shining his lamp onto the screen but he can't see the mouse cursor.
