Dell Inspiron 15R :: Number Lock Key Does Not Stay On
Feb 3, 2013I just purchased a 15R and the number lock key does not stay on. I also purchased an R17 in December and that laptop holds the number lock.

Jul 20, 2014The keyboard on my HP Pavilion g6 is locked. It was working and then my cat ran across the keyboard and must have hit a key that locked it. The mouse pad works. No cap lock or number lock on. I have already tryed:
1) going in control panel and unchecking everything in make keyboard easier to use.
2) Took the battery out for a few minutes.
3) have rebooted computer may times.

Jan 29, 2013My dell laptop can't turn on. When I press power button, there have no activity. I see Num lock LED is OFF, Caps Lock LED is ON and Scroll lock is always blinking. LCD screen not display anything.
Here is the screenshot of my LED blinking.
1. I dissemble my laptop and remove unnecessary components and cable. I have tested and connected only with Motherboard , CPU and RAM.
2. I tried to replace with new RAM. But it can't solve problem.
3. I tried to remove Battery, only AC power can't solve problem.
4. I tried to replace new CMOS battery. But it can't.
Acer :: Number Lock Should Active On Boot Up?
Oct 18, 2008Acer 17" notebook Aspire 9425WSMi. Vista Home Prem SP1.
How do I get this PC to always start up with the Number Lock on/active? Given that the PC has a full size keyboard, it is a nuisance to always have to manually activate.
There does not appear to be any option in the BIOS settings that I have been able to access at startup.

Apr 4, 2008I have an inspiron 9400 that has been having some issues lately. As of right now, when I push the power button, the power light comes on but it does not boot or even post. The Num lock stays on and the caps lock and scroll lock lights blink for about 40 seconds then the whole thing shuts off. what those blinking lights mean. I have search dell support but have found nothing.

Dell Inspiron N5110 :: Starts But Won't Stay On
Jan 19, 2015I have a N5110 that just recently started acting up.When I turn it on, it shows me the dell screen and then it tries to boot windows but then it turns off right away. Sometimes it gets far enough to show me a black screen with white lettering that says windows boot manager and wants me to select windows 7 as the operating system but when I try to hit enter to select it, the laptop wont respond and it turns off.
I tried pressing f12 and running diagnostics. Sometimes it will respond and let me get to the blue boot device screen but then it stops responding and wont let me run the diagnostic, then it turns off.
This also happened yesterday but after a few tries i was able to run the diagnostic and it came back saying everything was great, then my laptop rebooted and worked just fine. But today when I try to turn it on it wont work, I have been at it for over an hour.also, when i try to boot it, it will sometimes give me beep codes: 2 beeps, then 1 long beep. It only has time to do this once before it turns off.

Dell Inspiron 7520 :: Not Charging - Won't Stay Powered On
Nov 17, 2014My Inspiron 15R SE which I purchased from Dell Canada in February 2013 recently acted up on me. It was just like any other day, I run the laptop battery down, then plug in the power adapter when its low.
This time however, the laptop just suddenly shutdown (not through Windows, like just up and died). I tried to power it up again and each time, barely 30 seconds after it powers up, it just up and dies.
I had to do work on it so I thought I let it sit for awhile to charge the battery, thinking that I can run it on battery at least. But alas I left it there for even a whole night and the battery did not even charge a drop.
I then tried removing the battery and only running on power adapter only but it won't even start. I have also tried another power adapter but the same issue persists so I can safely rule out the power adapter.
The power port doesn't look damaged either seeing as I have always loyally bought Dell throughout the years, and I really need to get work done (it is my primary computer).

Jan 30, 2013Had a laptop for just over 2 years so out of warranty. The laptop will not stay on for longer than 30 seconds - 1 minute, it doesn't matter what I'm doing (tried going into everything, Bios, safe mode, etc). I've bought a new battery and nothing has changed.
The laptop has had overheating problems in the past, whereby it would turn off if the fan was in someway impeded. Since this problem I have tried blowing into the fan and even used a hoover but nothing has worked.
Does it sound like its an issue with a fan or something else?

Jan 1, 2015My Inspiron 1545 use to randomly shuts down (direct shutdown), I think i was due to over heating because i could feel the bottom of the laptop get really hot, so i started to have the laptop elevated for better air flow, that worked for a little while but then it would have the same problem, i have not cleaned the inside of the laptop or ever opened it, but i plan to do it to see whats going on, i don't think i have a warranty on it anymore so i think will experiment, but before i do that, i wanted to know what could be the cause of this problem, my best guess is i need to clean it or replace the CPU fan.
Also, I left my laptop in the car overnight and i was really cold out, after that night, now the laptop doesn't stay on more than 2 mins.....
Dell Inspiron N5040 :: Hard Drive Will Not Stay In Place
Apr 8, 2013We thought there was a hard drive issue on my laptop Dell sent replacement drive(It showed drive missing on diags). However, it appears the original issue was the drive was coming loose from the connector. Now anytime I set the laptop down or on the side the hard drive comes loose. We can not find any type of strap or screw that holds the hard drive in place. It is a model N5040. All screws were tightened and none appear to be missing.

Dec 7, 2014I have a new Inspiron 7000 series that I'm setting up. I have a restore app running to download a sizable amount of data from my old backup to this new computer.
Although I have the laptop plugged in and told it to NEVER sleep when plugged in - and I adjusted the hard drive (advanced power management) to stay awake for 120 minutes, it still seems to be going to sleep after a short (less than 1 hour period of time).
I have to hit the power button and wait for the screen saver, then I swipe it out of the way and must login to my laptop. The restore application stops running when it goes into this sleep mode.
Frustrating as my settings all seem to imply the system should stay awake.

Nov 22, 2014I have recently bought a Dell Inspiron 17, 5000 series with a 17" monitor and am running Windows 8.1.On previous laptops that I have had, when I have pressed the Number Lock key the first time, it has activated it and it has remained active no matter how many times I turned the machine on and off, which is ideal as I have several spreadsheets running, so need to enter numbers and currencies quickly. However, the Inspiron 17 loses the Number Lock memory when it is turned off, so every time I turn it back on again I have to remember to activate it again.
Possible to apply a setting that will keep the Number Lock active, ie so when I press a number key it will work no matter how many times I turn the laptop on and off?

Most of the time the laptop will not boot up and I get the single blinking LED on Caps Lock and Num Loc. However, if I am persistent and keep trying the start button it will boot up. After it boots up every thing works fine. I can even do a restart and it will stop and boot back up. But if I do a shutdown then I will have to push the start button several times (it will come up with the single blinking LED on Caps Lock and Num Loc) before it will boot up again.

I wiped and re-installed my os yesterday.
The 5810T does not have an led for caps lock or num lock so the osd indicator is invaluable.

Jan 18, 2015I own a Dell Inspiron 17R SE 7720.
Recently, out of nowhere the computer is not powering up. I plug the power cable in (without the battery) and the caps lock key's light lights up but nothing else happens.
Once I place the battery into the laptop with the power cable, the third light on the front of the laptop (below the touchpad) lights up in this sequence and keeps repeating itself:
Amber/red
Amber/red
Amber/red
Amber/red
White
Then repeats from beginning.
I have tried the usual, power discharge by making sure all power sources are removed and holding down the power button for 60secs. Tried with known-working RAM and also with an external monitor - no luck.
There are no other POST notifications that I can see, no beeps etc. Just the lights on the front which only happens when the battery is plugged in with the power cord. I cannot find anywhere in the manual what the lights mean.

Oct 6, 2009My fiance has had an Inspiron 1501 for some time. Today after she put the computer to sleep, the PC would not come out of sleep mode (typical windows problem); however,
button the fan kicks on and then the screen stays black and the CAPS lock and SCROLL lock lights come on and stay illuminated. I could not find the POST code for these two lights remaining on. I've tried re-seating the processor, as well as cleaning out the heat sinks.
I'm afraid that the PC may have overheated and fried the board/processor/some component, but I wanted some advice before I began searching for a new laptop

Aug 15, 2010.After I push power button, one of 3 lock lights, the A lock flashes blue, and a steady blue power light occurs to right of keboard, for about 5-7 seconds, then turns off after a soft high pitched beep.. The computer did get hot before this occurred. Tried getting new power cord because old one was not correct one. Tried booting up with and without battery & did not work. Screen never comes up.

When I press the power button, the power light comes on but I don't hear a fan whirring, the battery light also comes on. The screen is totally blank and the caps lock icon continually flashes and after about a minute the computer shuts down.
