I have recently bought a Dell Inspiron 17, 5000 series with a 17" monitor and am running Windows 8.1.On previous laptops that I have had, when I have pressed the Number Lock key the first time, it has activated it and it has remained active no matter how many times I turned the machine on and off, which is ideal as I have several spreadsheets running, so need to enter numbers and currencies quickly. However, the Inspiron 17 loses the Number Lock memory when it is turned off, so every time I turn it back on again I have to remember to activate it again.
Possible to apply a setting that will keep the Number Lock active, ie so when I press a number key it will work no matter how many times I turn the laptop on and off?
I just bought a new Dell 5520 with switchable graphics. It has 2 graphic cards:
Intel (R) HD Graphics 4000, and AMD Radeon HD 7670M
Now, here is my problem, whenever i try to run any game I have to switch to the ADM card. But some games ask to choose a Graphics Adapter at which point I can only select the intel HD Graphics Card and not the AMD one. I tried to set High Graphics setting with AMD Catalyst Controller but the game does not seem to detect it. What do i do?? Is there any way I can select AMD card as my Default Graphics Adapter?
The system default setting of the adjust plan brightness is DC 40% and AC 100%, now when unplug it 40% on DC mode, then plug in AC, found LCD brightness have not change to 100%, still keep with 40%. Reboot one unit with 3 cycles on DC mode; also duplicate this phenomenon after plug in AC adapter.
(the default brightness on AC always change from 100% to 40% ) any one face this problem ?
I downloaded VLC as a movie viewer. I used to used Media Player, which I understand and was easy to make playlists. However, most times I start a downloaded movie it plays in QuickTime, which I hate. How can I make VLC my default movie player? I am using Safari.
Vista's defafault settings for "Power Saver" sets the minimum and maximum processor state as ZERO percent for battery. I don't understand this. If I open performance monitor the processor is shown as 80% max on AC power. If I disconnect the AC power while on "Power Saver" the monitor shows 40% max frequency. Why ZERO percent as default settings, to me that would mean it wouldn't even run.
Certainly for running light stuff it runs a lot cooler, the fan hardly cutting in at all.

how to install Dell 1704 or Dell 1705 Wireless driver in my Dell Inspiron 5537. I always get trouble everytime I try to install them.when I install 1705 driver when I install 1704 driver I've tried to turn off and turn on Bluetooth again in PC setting but it doesn't work.
I admit that I messed up in trying to reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit without reformatting and using a flash drive and instructions downloaded from YouTube. And yes, I have learned a great lesson from this experience. Now I have purchased from DELL a Windows 7 CD along with a drivers CD for me to start over with. I would like to know how to do this the right way. I have a Inspiron laptop model 17R N7110. I am hoping that this fresh install will put this laptop back like it was when it was new. Minus the bloatware of course.
I have dell inspiron 3420 core i3 which comes with window 7 home basic 64x and I upgrade it to window 7 ultimate 64x.. but now i want to restore it to its original factory setting to home basic 64x... I searched it alot about restore to factory setting and apply all the suggestion but cant work. When I press F8 and select system repair after that select language then for log in it shows me two account one is mine one which i created and the other I don,t know where it comes from. So i select my administrator account but there when i click on restore to factory setting it shows a message that "system/window cant find recovery disk" like this type of message..

I have been given Dell inspiron 15 as a scholarship From a Firm..On start up it shows Firm logo instead of Dell logo..even when operating system is loading it shows the same logo.I have updated BIOS..More over installed a fresh copy of Windows 8.1.... This laptop has become very sluggish and I want to restore to factory default, however, contrary to the instructions on the website,when I press F8 I can get to a Advance Boot Options menu where there is an option to repair your computer but if I select this is takes me only back into Windows no "list of system recovery tools is given"....
The other options are Safe Mode, Safe Mode with networking, Safe mode with command prompt, Enable Boot Logging, Enable low resolution video, Last known good configuration ( advanced), Directory Services Restore Mode, Debugging mode, Disable automatic restart on system failure, disable driver signature enforcement and start windows normally.

Its running a windows Vista Downgrade to XP professional I am trying to set up a quick reliable business machine and part 1 is clean install exactly what do I need (resource DVD) and are there any threads to direct to me also does the machine come preinstalled with vista or XP? I avoided the bluetooth, camera, and fingerprint reader and fancy graphics card because I never used these on the Sony and had a millions of issues with drivers. Sorry I am coming from a childhood of macs and a bad experience of PC's my plan is to clean install right out of the box to avoid losing any important files. Thanks for any help I am getting the unit on the 30th so there is some time if I need to get some drivers dl'ed I did get the backlit key board I fell in love with it since it first came out on my pops old powerbook

How to go back to the original system (or application) setting of XPS 13 Ultrabook? I deleted a number of applications Dell put on when I purchased XPS Ultrabook, but now I want to use several of them. Is there any easy way to go back to the original system setting with having all applications Dell put on? I don't think any CD was enclosed in the box.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 and stops responding during use, it does not freeze up totally, just the programs being used stop responding.
Sometimes they will start back on their own after waiting a few minutes and other times I have to reboot. I have 61 processes showing with no programs opened. I have been told this is my problem.
It also is slow to recognize a DVD inserted in the DVD drive as well as a USB memory stick. How can I make sure my laptop is running and working properly with as few processes running as needed? I have downloaded and ran every program I can find in relationship to this problem and everything checks out OK on computer.
It also shows letters slowly as you type. This is not happening everytime but maybe 70% of the time i use a program involving typing.
My status changed to shipped this morning at 8am, but I haven't been provided a tracking number to follow the package.
I'm shipping "Canada standard" or do you think something's up?
I got an Email saying it was shipped but no tracking number is there an automated system I can call in canada to get an update since the web side says NA?
