Dell :: How To Reduce Number Of Processes At Start Up
Mar 14, 2009
I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 and stops responding during use, it does not freeze up totally, just the programs being used stop responding.
Sometimes they will start back on their own after waiting a few minutes and other times I have to reboot. I have 61 processes showing with no programs opened. I have been told this is my problem.
It also is slow to recognize a DVD inserted in the DVD drive as well as a USB memory stick. How can I make sure my laptop is running and working properly with as few processes running as needed? I have downloaded and ran every program I can find in relationship to this problem and everything checks out OK on computer.
It also shows letters slowly as you type. This is not happening everytime but maybe 70% of the time i use a program involving typing.
I need to find the exact model number like dv6xxxxXX (like dv 6234TX)
I have a hp DV6000 (1.73 Core Duo T2250,2 GB Ram, 120 HD, Geforce Go 7400)
Now I bought this laptop used. there is only a charger and the laptop...
The back of this laptop does not have the Service Tag...it has been taken off...
Then i went to the bios but under product model and number it is blank.... (so my first question is WHY isnt the bios detecting the product model number and serial number in the FIRST PLACE?
I also used the auto detection method on hp site but it is unable to identify ...
When I turn on my Vaio Z, there are always around 85-90 processes running. That's a significantly more than my 3 year old Dell!
I also would also like to ask about the fan on my computer, which seems to always be on. It can't be heard in a room with people, but by myself, the sound becomes a nuisance.
Is it normal to have this fan on at all times (once in a very rare while, it turns off and is silent)? Is this an issue with my computer? Is it due to the fact that there are too many processes running
On my new fw, task manager says that I have around 106 processes going at once. This number is huge! All i want to do on the laptop is surf the net, do microsoft office documents, watch films, listen to music on itunes that is basically it.
Do you know which processes I can safely close to reduce this number and increase the performance of the laptop, as that many processes is obviously going to slow it down.
Or remove completely. Some of them don't even have descriptions, but bluetooth for instance I don't use, I could stop those three? Then that would leave only EIGHTY. There are so many processes running, almost all of them say 00- but I take it that doesn't mean they are not using the processor & more to my concern heating up my notebook?
Is there a list of processes somewhere I could safely stop on a vaio? For someone who is not up to the task of clean install (I read the sticky), I'm just wondering if there's anything else that could make a difference before I accept a restocking fee.
I need XPS 16 to watch HD movies. I am interested in Full HD 1080p screen and Blu Ray optical drive with 500GB 7200rpm HDD. No gaming. Now I am thinking ways to reduce heating issues.
What minimum processor and GPU is sufficient for my usage?
I would like to reduce the tempeture of my CPU and GPU. The current tempeture of the GPU is 60C and CPU 50C. I have thermal paste between the heat sink and the chips, but it is not enough. I would like to know if someone has tried the thermal copper pads from ebay or another effective method.

Do you know if the thermal copper pads can really reduce 20% of the tempeture in GPU and CPU?
I was wondering if there are any ways to lower system temperature on MBP? My machine gets hot (particular the left side) even though I am just doing simple tasks like surfing and word processing.
I am considering purchasing a 256g SSD for my late 2008 MBP. Of course the speed increase is a given, however I have read in numerous reports that SSDs significantly reduce heat.
If I were to replace the HDD with an SSD will heat issues disappear completely or will the MBP still be too hot for a lap due to heat generated by the video card?
I am playing games like Modern Warfare 2, L4D2, GTA4, BF2 non stop. I have been playing for about 14 hours a day for the last 5 days, and obviously the fans are going at max speed non stop.
Will this extended heating damage/reduce the life of the laptop?
So I noticed having hopped on my FE790 (3-years old) with Hi-Color technology that the contrast is SOOOOOO much better than on my FW465.
The colors on me FE790 look so much more vibrant and it was rather painful to look at the same picture of a multicolored flower on the FW with the FE790 right by its side.
I decided to use the Catalyst Control Ceneter from ATI to try to tweak the settings
Is there a way to reduce the amout of RAM allocated for video card?I don't play games so only 16-32Mb should be more than enough. I have 4Gb of RAM and only 2.99 are available. I know that for a 32bit OS only 3.4-3.6Gb are available.
I brought HP pavilion n010tx with windows 8 and I upgraded to windows 8.1 after that I Can't reduce my brightness in my laptop and it shows brightness adjustment is unavailable....
How to reduce screen brightness below standard level in ThinkPad T520 ?
I think it is possible somehow, but I don't know how. I reduced brightness to zero using Fn key + End key, but it's not enough, I want to make screen darker, because my eyes get tired.
I am looking to buy the XPS 1647. However having a number pad is very important to me, I was wondering if there is a function which can turn the keyboard into a numberpad?
My Inspiron 5421 won't start. I can hear the drive start and after a few seconds I get a 4-beep code (RAM read/write failure). The warranty expired about 6 months ago.
My Dell Studio 1555 won't start anymore. When I want to turn it on, I get a beeping signal (2 beeps) and nothing happens. I tried all possible troubleshooting tips from the dell website (disconnecting all power and hold power button, reconnect to power, checked battery with the button on the battery, all fine, can't get into bios because computer doesn't start at all) but nothing works. Recently I also checked if the motherboard is connected properly and there is no issue either.
I also purchased a new dell adapter because my old one was a little bit damaged. The adapter is like the old one, and it's originally dell and the correct one for the studio 1555 so it can't be the adapter. Laptop also doesn't start when the battery is not in and it's only connected to the power.
I'm trying to locate the serial number of my laptop and it appears to have been removed. It's not under the battery. Is there somewhere in the operating system that I can retrieve this information?
I have laptop Dell Inspiron 3200 p-2. I wanna buy cmos button battery before i open.I am not sure how to install. Please let me know the nmae/number of this button battry
I have 2 problems I need to resolve with my studio 15 which needs tech support and I spent the last hour waiting and then talking with a support rep and not
understanding anything she said. Problem 1, I want to transfer ownership from my mom who bought to myself
My status changed to shipped this morning at 8am, but I haven't been provided a tracking number to follow the package.
I'm shipping "Canada standard" or do you think something's up?
I got an Email saying it was shipped but no tracking number is there an automated system I can call in canada to get an update since the web side says NA?
Anyone, by chance, know the part number for the HDD bracket and plastic cap assembly for the M1330? This is bascially the assembly that goes around your HDD with the 'cap' on the end that mates up to the laptop case.
I've been looking on Dell's site for a bit (and ebay) and can't seem to find the part. I'd like to pick up a spare for my Win7 Drive I've been playing with, rather than swapping the HDD in and out of my existing frame.
