The system default setting of the adjust plan brightness is DC 40% and AC 100%,
now when unplug it 40% on DC mode, then plug in AC, found LCD brightness have not change to 100%, still keep with 40%. Reboot one unit with 3 cycles on DC mode; also duplicate this phenomenon after plug in AC adapter.
(the default brightness on AC always change from 100% to 40% ) any one face this problem ?
I downloaded VLC as a movie viewer. I used to used Media Player, which I understand and was easy to make playlists. However, most times I start a downloaded movie it plays in QuickTime, which I hate. How can I make VLC my default movie player? I am using Safari.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have recently bought a Dell Inspiron 17, 5000 series with a 17" monitor and am running Windows 8.1.On previous laptops that I have had, when I have pressed the Number Lock key the first time, it has activated it and it has remained active no matter how many times I turned the machine on and off, which is ideal as I have several spreadsheets running, so need to enter numbers and currencies quickly. However, the Inspiron 17 loses the Number Lock memory when it is turned off, so every time I turn it back on again I have to remember to activate it again.
Possible to apply a setting that will keep the Number Lock active, ie so when I press a number key it will work no matter how many times I turn the laptop on and off?
Vista's defafault settings for "Power Saver" sets the minimum and maximum processor state as ZERO percent for battery. I don't understand this. If I open performance monitor the processor is shown as 80% max on AC power. If I disconnect the AC power while on "Power Saver" the monitor shows 40% max frequency. Why ZERO percent as default settings, to me that would mean it wouldn't even run.
Certainly for running light stuff it runs a lot cooler, the fan hardly cutting in at all.
I just bought a new Dell 5520 with switchable graphics. It has 2 graphic cards:
Intel (R) HD Graphics 4000, and
AMD Radeon HD 7670M
Now, here is my problem, whenever i try to run any game I have to switch to the ADM card. But some games ask to choose a Graphics Adapter at which point I can only select the intel HD Graphics Card and not the AMD one. I tried to set High Graphics setting with AMD Catalyst Controller but the game does not seem to detect it. What do i do?? Is there any way I can select AMD card as my Default Graphics Adapter?

I will be going to mainland China in 2 weeks. I bought a electrical converter. I am confused as to use the "High" or "Low" setting on the converter for my Z690?
Nothing on the Sony charger on wattage! I see a 19.5V Output and Input of 100-240V /1.5A and 50-60Hz
The converter/transformer has a high switch for appliances between 50 and 1650 watts and a low switch for equipment under 50 watts.
So if the Z690 charger is over 50W, I set the switch to High? I am just concerned that I will damage the laptop since the High goes up to 1650 watts?
I just connect my VGN-Z591U to my XBR-1080P via 1.3 HDMI cable.I'm very disapointed about how the text look on the screen.It look very crappy,but orthewise picture and movie look perfect.When I chage setting to 720p the text look better but pictures and movies become worse.

I am trying to set up a quick reliable business machine and part 1 is clean install exactly what do I need (resource DVD) and are there any threads to direct to me also does the machine come preinstalled with vista or XP? I avoided the bluetooth, camera, and fingerprint reader and fancy graphics card because I never used these on the Sony and had a millions of issues with drivers. Sorry I am coming from a childhood of macs and a bad experience of PC's my plan is to clean install right out of the box to avoid losing any important files. View 1 Replies View RelatedI forgot my administration windows log in password after a vacation. I have down loaded a free program called Ophcrack and had set my laptop to boot from a cd 1st but I just cannot get the laptop to boot from a cd. It just keeps booting up from the internal drive.
The cd is an image and is bootable on my desktop.

I did not make a password reset disk (I am learning it the hard way now!). I don't want to do a "System Recovery" because I do have quite a bit of data on it.
I realize there are paid windows password recovery tools out there but I would like to use this "free program" to try to crack it 1st.
How to set the bios properly so the notebook can be booted from a cd. I also did try to boot it up from an usb drive but the notebook kept booting from its internal drive.
The touchpad on/off function does not persist through system lock/unlock. For instance, with the touchpad disabled, locking my computer will re-enable the touchpad (as will signing back in to my computer account if I take the trouble to disable the touchpad before entering my password).
I permenantly use an external mouse, want to leave my touchpad disabled as it interferes with typing. Thus, I see this as a bug. Is there any way to change this behavior short of a bug report? Perhaps some buried setting?
Running Win 8.1, user is account password protected, but not linked to a Windows live account.
Edit: Laptop has a Synaptics touchpad.
Solution: Solved by going into Control Panel -> Mouse Settings -> Change Mouse settings -> Device Settings -> Settings (Device needs to be enabled for this to be accessible) -> Advance Tab -> Touchpad Status
Under touchpad status, setting was changed to 'keep previous enable/disable status'.
By default, the brightness setting on my dell xps m1530 is set to max on AC. I prefer to set it 3 at pushes of the down button.
But I whenever restart or when the screen turns off automatically after inactivity, it just resets back into the full brightness. Is there anyway to make it 'remember' the brightness that I set it to?
I noticed this problem with my studio 1537, I usually use a external bluetooth mouse at home, but I don't bring it to school. When I do use the mouse I disable the mouse touchpad.
However the problem is that if i kept the mouse on and connected and allow the laptop to sleep, when I turn it on the next day at school I don't have mine external mouse with me and the touchpad is still disabled, which I thought it would have automatically enable itself since it doesn't detect an external mouse.
I was just wondering if anyone does this and might have already figured out a way to solve the problem. So far the only way I can fix this problem at school without using external mouse is to restart the laptop all over after I wake it up from sleep first.
my Acer Extensa 4420. A few days ago while on my laptop the BSOD suddenly popped up and my laptop shut down. A restarted it and while it did log in, I got notices saying a lot of stuff was corrupt. I ran chkdsk to see if i could diagnose the issue, and it stated the system volume was corrupt. As time went by using windows became erratic. I decided to try to restore my acer back to factory settings using the eRecovery program. This program would stop working every time right before the process began. Eventually windows stopped booting up at all. leaving my at a boot screen the endlessly looped. I installed Ubuntu shortly after, and managed to get my PQSERVICE partition recognized by the GRUB bootloader and Ubuntu itself (as a mounted drive). The problem is that whenever I do boot to the PQSERVICE partition and look through the options in the recovery center, there is no restore to factory default settings.

The volume is consistently low and has a very annoying reverb and echo effect, even with those settings turned off. I have only had it for a week, and I have been very pleased with everything else accept the audio.
