Alright, so I purchased a Studio 1745 with a Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 (2.8GHz/1066Mhz w/ 6 MB Cache), but after three delays I really don't want to give Dell my business anymore.
There is a HP with an Intel 1.6GHz i7-720QM processor on Amazon with better specs for less money. Basically,
I am wondering if there are any downsides to ordering the new i7. I don't understand how the separate cores work exactly, so I just want to know if it is an equal or better processor?
what the performance difference is between the Intel Core i7-620M and the . Intel Core i7-820QM. I always thought the quad core 820QM was faster, but on the hp website the dual core 620M is more expensive.
Is the 620M faster? And is it faster for specific things only?
I own a Dell 7520 and it has four 3.0 usb ports. However, I have discovered that one program I use does not support Intel 3.0 USB ports only USB 2.0 ports. So the only port that program will use is the Realtek USB card reader on the 7520 because that is a native 2.0 port.
According to a poster Innogen on the Intel support forum "The BIOS in my Dell Inspiron 7520 allows me to disable it so that the USB 3.0 ports revert to USB 2.0 functionality." but I can't find any such functionality in my BIOS (using version A06).

I tried uninstalling the Intel USB 3.0 drivers in WIn 7 Ultimate hoping that when I rebooted it would install USB 2.0 drivers but it simply reinstalled the USB 3.0 drivers.
I would really like to get this program working on my computer and while I am not happy about losing USB 3.0 functionality I can live with it until the vendor gets its act together and starts to support Intel USB 3.0.
Where's the cheapest place to buy the intel 5300 wireless mini card for my xps 1530? Also, how much of a difference is it from the Dell Wireless 1395 mini card?
I installed the Intel X25-M SSD in my 1 year old M1330 today, adn installed Visat x64 ultimate on it. Initially i felt some performance increase, but maybe not as much as i had hoped for.
I then ran benchmark test (read) in HD Tune Pro, and averega eonly turned up as being 105 mb/s. I have read several test and reviews of the X25-M and none of them showed those rates.
Almost all of them showed about 210 mb/s (read). My burst rate is 82.5 mb/s, cpu usuage 26.3%.
Could any one perhaps tell me why there is such a big difference in the tests? I should have all the latets drivers and firmware updates.
My Intel SSD X25-M will be arriving in a few days. Lets hope it has the latest firmware..
But is there anything i need to know before i put the SSD in the laptop and proceed with the installation. I understand there are a couple of things I need to do in BIOS and one of them is to change the SATA setting to AHCI???? ATA?? instead of RAID. And then after installation i change it back to which one???
I would do a search on the forums, but its the crappy search tool which makes its hard for me to do a specific search.
I've been following notebookreview's threads for quite some time since I'm planning on replacing my good-old veteran Inspiron 8600 with a Precision M4400, which currently suits my needs best
I was just about to order the laptop from Ireland (which is the cheapest and most secure way of getting the M4400 to where I live at the moment - Bulgaria) but a couple of days ago I saw a piece of news about five new processors - T8700, T9550, T9800, Q9000 and P9600 Processors for the Centrino 2 platform. Now I'm waiting for the P9600 which is a bit faster (2.66 GHz)but most important for me is that it has a lower TDP rating than what I initially planned to order - T9400. I travel a lot so battery life and power drain are important for me.
Does anyone have information if the M4400 will have a P9600 option in the nearest future so that I wait a bit more? I remember that some time ago the P9500 was available within the M4400 configurator but then Dell misteriously discontinued offering it
It is also romoured that Intel will reveal the new i7 mobile processor versions soon which makes me think it all over again and maybe wait a bit more. My only doubts are that the mobile i7s would have a higher TDP which will eat up the battery in no time
Well when I opened up my E1705 to install it, I saw there were only 2 power cords (I dont know what to call the small power cables). Anyways the 4965 has 3 ports for power as you can see in this picture
I upgraded from a Dell 1500 draft N, which has only 2 of those powers, one on the left and right, but not one in the middle like the Intel has
I tried installing it with only the left and right ones, the same way the dell one was installed and it seems to work fine, but the Wifi light blinks like crazy if im ever doing anything (such as gaming, or everytime something is downloading)
I opted for 2 7200 RPM drives for my configuration. I also selected the quad core processor, 1gb video and 8gb of ram. I was very close to purchasing with SSD drives, but my first experience with SSD wasn't very good. I purchased one of the first XPS 1330 with the 32gb SSD option. I really bought into all the hype and after about 60 days I swapped it out with a 7200 rpm drive. Anyway, looks like SSD drives have improved drastically.
I was just reading some reviews and performance tests on the Intel X-25 80gb SSD drives. I'm considering buying two for the M6400 and setting them up RAID 0. I really don't care about storage space.
I tend to only buy Laptops when theres a Die shrink, if not the performance gains and battery effciency are insignificant.
I am looking for ward to a new system preferably on a 32nm die, will they get here by Christams 2009 or are they delayed? I know The back to school season is used to get rid of old back stock and NOT to launch "new" products.
I figured pulling the trigger on an RGB LED screen and 45nm CPU Monetveniea and 4GB DDR2 was a good start.
I am looking forward to
-32nm from Intel offered by DELL (or others) -DDR3 of course - USB 3.0 (maybe some desktops have it)
I installed the 64bit version of windows 7 a few days ago and have had some graphics issues ever since.
The best I can describe it is that it makes my screen look like an over compressed JPG image, all blocky and broken up, until I refresh it in some way then its fine for a while.
I have the intel GM45 chipset. I started with the drivers Windows 7 found after (clean) install but switched back to the ones provided by Dell when the issue showed up. That didn't cure it though.
When I customize a Dell 15/17 or XPS 16, there are only options for Dell wifi cards. I believe these are Broadcom cards. I dual boot Linux distros and Broadcom cards are generally a headache for Linux users. I also don't like that Dell doesn't include the same Intel wifi card options as they do for their Latitude and Precision series .....
I've spent half an hour searching and still haven't found the answer. I'm set to order a Studio XPS 16, but am stuck on the wireless card. There are two Intel 5300 cards listed, a mini and a half-mini.
The half mini says it has "MyWiFi". That's not listed on the mini card
Intel® 5300 WLAN Wireless-N (3x3) Mini Card add $0
Intel 5300 Ultimate-N Half Mini Card (3x3) with MyWiFi [Included in Price
I am purchasing a dell m4400 and want to know what is the "intel vpro" option. After a little googling and searching these forums I understand it allows an IT dept to troubleshoot problems remotely.
Now I dont have an IT dept (with the exception of myself) so does anyone know if this option would allow a dell take control (from there side) and fix any software problem I may have?
Will a Dell XPS M1710 take the new Intel Core 2 extreme or rumored quad core processors of the future?
Just a yes or no will work, no hard feelings or need to flame/rant and yes facts and links help
What I know now- - The new $800-$1000 X7800 Core 2 Extremes cost a lot and I'm assuming run hotter then the current gen of core 2. - [url] Might have answered my own question but still im lost on the subject - [url]- another
After some troubleshooting, it seems to be related to the Intel Wifi services, of which I have several listed under "Services" in msconfig.
My Wifi card is the Intel 5300 and if I only run the Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi Service, start-up happens without lag. If I add any of the other Intel Services (Wireless REgistry Service, Wireless SSO Service, Wireless Event Log), it can take several minutes of unresponsiveness before things finally work.
Do I need these other services? WiFi seems to work fine, as far as I can tell. I use the Intel Conncection Manager , not the Dell utility to connect.
Second question: I move my laptop frequently from the table to my lap and back, and the adapter plug comes lose fairly easily, even though the cord is not pulling on it. Is this a common problem with the E6500?..
So, I have just ordered the M1330, and it comes with the 1505. When I asked the dell rep about the 5300, he said it was not compatible with the M1330 due to the motherboard or something?
However, I've read that some people have made the switch, my questions are as follows:
How hard is it to change wifi cards for a noob? Will this void my warranty? What are specific gains? My brother has an M1330, the internet some times.
My E4300 (in sig) has the above NIC, but whenever I boot up my laptop (from standby, hibernate, or even from shut down), it won't connect to the internet unless I disable the device and re-enable it.
The NIC recognizes that a cord is plugged in and that there is a connection, but it just won't initialize it and connect to the internet.
I only get "Local Access" until I reset the device, as I said earlier. This seems to only happen when on battery power.
I have the latest Dell driver for the device, and I've tried tweaking many power settings, but it just won't connect on battery unless I reset the device.
