Dell :: E6500, Intel WiFi And Other Questions

Feb 21, 2009

After some troubleshooting, it seems to be related to the Intel Wifi services, of which I have several listed under "Services" in msconfig.

My Wifi card is the Intel 5300 and if I only run the Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi Service, start-up happens without lag.
If I add any of the other Intel Services (Wireless REgistry Service, Wireless SSO Service, Wireless Event Log), it can take several minutes of unresponsiveness before things finally work.

Do I need these other services? WiFi seems to work fine, as far as I can tell. I use the Intel Conncection Manager , not the Dell utility to connect.

Second question: I move my laptop frequently from the table to my lap and back, and the adapter plug comes lose fairly easily, even though the cord is not pulling on it.
Is this a common problem with the E6500?..

Dell :: E6500 And Intel Wifi 6300 Driver Issues

Apr 15, 2010

seeing that Dell released a driver supporting 6300, I went and bought one to replace my 5100. Plugged it in, and it wasn't recognized. Fair enough, I went to reinstall the driver.. which immediately finished. Setup log said error discovering intel device, or something like that.

Problem is, the device is working fine as far as windows is concerned - it is detected, I can connect using windows networks screen. But ControlPoint Connection manager does not see it.

What am I missing?

Dell :: M4400 WIFI Catcher And Other Questions

May 28, 2009

i just got my M4400 and from a first contact, i am very happy with it. i have a question about the WiFi Catcher.

it seems it does not recognize the wifi card (5300) although i am able to connect to the internet over wireless. when i press the button, a window that says radio is off appears.

Also in Dell Control Point it seems like there is no wifi connection in the DCP connection manager and all wifi related options are disabled. i can only see and use the dial up and ethernet connection in this software.

Dell :: Add Intel 5300 Wireless To Latitude E6500

Jun 27, 2009

I just picked up a Latitude E6500 from the outlet, and it only comes with B wireless. People on the forum have mentioned that the E6500 has 3 Mini PCIe slots. One is full length and has 3 antenna connections, one is half length with 2, and one is half length with 1 (for Bluetooth).

I'm planning on upgrading with an Intel 5300 wifi card, it's amazing how cheap they are on eBay. The 5300 comes in two configurations, full and half, but it's a 3x3 antenna, so it'll have to go in my full length slot.

However, most of the listings seem to be for half, and they cost the same. I figure I might as well get the cheaper half length card that also saves .5 ounces of weight if it'll fit in the slot, and the antenna wires will reach. Does anyone know if this would work, or do I need to find one of the full length cards?

Dell :: VLAN Support On Intel 82567LM On Latitude E6500?

Jul 13, 2009

Has anyone else tried getting the VLAN support working on a Dell Latitude E6500? The network device I have is a "Intel(R) 82567LM Gigabit Network Connection".

Using the latest drivers available from support.dell.com, both the Dell download page and the driver report it as version 9.50.14.2. The Dell download page states it as A01, and dated 2009-02-24. The driver reports a date of 2008-04-04.

Under the "Advanced" tab of the properties from Device Manager, it shows "Priority & VLAN" as set to "Priority & VLAN Enabled". However, it doesn't appear to provide a way to add and configure the VLANs.

For Intel network cards, this typically requires the Intel PROSet application. The only download I can find from Dell is the "Intel 825xx Gigabit Platform LAN Network Device - Application", 14.0.2/Gold Build 01, A00, 2008-08-13 - and it is for 32-bit Windows only

Dell :: Intel Wifi Cards?

When I customize a Dell 15/17 or XPS 16, there are only options for Dell wifi cards. I believe these are Broadcom cards. I dual boot Linux distros and Broadcom cards are generally a headache for Linux users. I also don't like that Dell doesn't include the same Intel wifi card options as they do for their Latitude and Precision series .....

Dell :: The Intel 5300 Wifi Card

So, I have just ordered the M1330, and it comes with the 1505. When I asked the dell rep about the 5300, he said it was not compatible with the M1330 due to the motherboard or something?

However, I've read that some people have made the switch, my questions are as follows:

How hard is it to change wifi cards for a noob?
Will this void my warranty?
What are specific gains?
My brother has an M1330,

Dell :: Intel WiFi 5300 Not Compatible With T9400

Oct 31, 2008

I chose the Intel WiFi 5300 over the WiFi 5100 as I understand it is the better card. However, a few hours later I received an email telling me my order was cancelled because the 5300 was 'unavailable'.

I contacted Dell chat this morning, and was told that the part was available but was incompatible with my processor choice. Apparently the 5300 is a Centrino 2 part, and is only compatible with a Centrino 2 processor. I thought the T9400 was a Centrino 2 processor?

If it's true that the parts are incompatible should I go with the T9400/WiFi 5100 or the P8400/WiFi 5300? The Dell chat guy told me that these were the only compatible configurations. If I try to order T9400/5300 again will my order be cancelled again - anyone else tried this?

Problem:

Temporary Solution:

I go to Device Manager and find that the "Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN" slot has the exclamation sign next to it so I disable the card and then reenable it again, then the problem is gone (the WiFi light turns on and I can now finally see wireless networks in the "Connect" window) .....

But, it still disconnects! What the heck!? I might have had this same issue in Windows 7, but I can't really remember. All I know is that when I tried to back it up using WHS, it would always fail.

Dell Latitude E7440 :: Intel Proset WiFi Connection Utility

I've been having issues with this with this utility either not connecting upon resuming my laptop or even from a fresh start. I visit many offices at I am the IT manger and all the connections are saved in profiles but despite them being saved they won't connect even when I try to connect manually. The only way to get the adapter to connect is to right click Proset running in the tray and click "reset proset". Even now while typing this I am connected via wifi but the proset icon shows "connecting"

I've tried updating the wifi adapter drivers from Dell and Intel directly and also completely removed the drivers and re-installed them but I am still having the same issue.

Dell Latitude E6400 :: Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN Drops Connections

Dec 9, 2008

I just recieved my Latitude E6400 today. I like the laptop, but the Intel Wifi Link 5300 AGN adapter continually drops my wireless connections to my home Linksys WRT54G access point and router. This is a version 5 Linksys unit running in mixed b/g mode with WEP encryption. It is running with a unique SSID which is not broadcast.

At first, my connections would drop and it seemed related to the Control Point software preinstalled on the E6400. So I uninstalled the Control Point System Management and Connection Management software, and this seemed to result in a small improvement: I can do a download successfully, but if I'm idle any amount of time the connection drops. This last makes me think power to the Wifi Link card might be getting turned off somewhere if there is no activity. However the Control Point Security Manager software is still installed (as it came from the factory) and might also be contributing to the problem.

I've used an 802.11n-compatible WiFi card in my home. The driver version for the WiFi Link is 12.0.0.82 and is dated 07/08/2008. The Linksys access point has been here a couple of years and is running Linksys firmware version v1.00.6. It is set up for 128-bit WEP encryption. I've had numerous laptops connect to it, all with older Broadcom b/g cards, and as long as the WEP encryption is set properly there has not been a connection problem. now to see if I can duplicate the connection dropping issue.

Acer :: 6920g- Upgrade To Intel 5300 Wifi

Oct 30, 2009

Just recieved my intel 5300 wifi card ready for the upgrade.

Upgrade physically went semi well, the 4965agn that was fitted was a devil to get out.

Seems like acer decided to get superman to tighten the two screws that hold the wifi card down. In the end the only solution was to remove the 2 pillers from the pcb(with pliers and brute force) and remove the card.

Windows xp fired up fine, no wifi connected popup. drivers were my first thought.

Checked device manager, code 10 on the device. tried new drivers, old driver sets, no progress.

Also there was a few links about the pcie 2 and pcie 1 compatiblity problems. But a pcie2 card should run at the pcie1 speeds when fitted to that slot, so that shouldnt be the problem.

Ive ordered a 2nd intel 5300, one that should be 'more' compatible..we will see. will post update on that when it arrives.

as of this point id say that the intel wifi 5300 does not play well with the acer 6920g.

Acer :: Adding Intel 5300AGN Wifi To Travelmate 4230

Oct 12, 2009

I've been wanting to upgrade this laptop, but it seems very snappy even with "only" 1gb RAM and 1.6ghz C2D.

One area it does need improvement on is the built-in G wireless. I would like to upgrade this to an Intel 5300AGN, but the 4230 only has two antenna connectors (for those not in the know, the 5300 has three connectors). An option of course is to install the 5100.

Where can I find the thread on a mod to add a third antenna?

Slightly off topic... What's the best N router or WAP for the 5300 to exploit the 300-450mbps theoretical transfer rate?

Lenovo T400 / T500 :: T540p Battery Drain In S4 Sleep State After BIOS And Intel WiFi Driver Update

Aug 17, 2014

On my T540p, I configured the rapid start technology according to [URL] ....

Since I have performed a BIOS update to 2.14  and an update of the Intel Wifi driver to 17.0.5, I experience the problem of battery drain when the computer is in S4 sleep state, at a rate of approximately 0.125% per hour (on the 56Wh battery).

This was not the case before these updates. There was no noticable power drain in S4 sleep state, even not over multiple days. I'm using Win7, I set all the WoL capabilities both in BIOS and in the Intel driver to disabled, according to [URL] ....

External device USB charge settings are also fully disabled in BIOS and Power Manager. The problem does not occur when the system is fully shut down, but in S4 Sleep state, which should be a zero-power state too, as it was before the updates. In the details of the BIOS update it is stated " Fixed an issue where the computer might fail to enter sleep state". Could the power drain be a side effect of this fix? Or is it an issue with the (new) Wifi driver, as it was the case for the Y410P?

How could this battery drain be avoided?
