Feb 3, 2009Well can it? I want to put one in mine. I guess it's anybody's guess, but I would assume the motherboard will apply the right stepping. The voltage and chipset and socket requirement is the same.

I t was working well until lately when it became slower and slower, I formated it and reinstalled everything but the problem persisted
I did a Windows experience index and the memory operations and CPU scores are 2,8 when initially they where easily over 5 in both categories, it means a great degradation

Jun 9, 2009You can see the processor I have in my Signature, Core 2 Extreme X9000.
Basically, I've never dabbled in overclocking before. However I have been running a lot of CPU intensive programs recently, and decided it might be time to try and overclock the CPU. I have a few queries though.
1: Is it normal for the fans to be on full blast when overclocked? I put it up to 3.4GHz, and as soon as I started my computer it sounds like it's going to take off...
2: Will this void my warranty? In the BIOS Dell says it can cause problems and run down the life quickly - However it doesn't say it'll void the warranty. Confirmation anyone?
3: In reference to question 1, if @ 3.4GHz it will continue to sound like a jumbo jet, what speed/s can I go to without it maxing out the fan?
4: My temperature for my CPU is currently jumping from between 48 and 61 degrees quite rapidly. Is this normal when overclocked?

Apr 6, 2010Is anyone running the Corsair X256 SSD with an E6400 without any problems?
I recently replaced my stock drive with the X256 SSD (love the speed) Everything worked beautifully for three day, on the fourth... "No bootable devices found, please reseat your hard drive" message appears at morning boot.
I reseat the drive and boots fine. Next day, same thing... I found myself reseating the drive every morning multiple reseats at times. Appears to happen every morning and when resuming from sleep.
I have the latest drives, chipset, BIOS, you name it. I posted on Crosair's Forum and was advised to disable sleep mode. I did and problem still occurs. Today Dell sent out a tech to replace my motherboard, I guess I'll know tonight or tomorrow if the cause was the Mobo.
Anyone successfully running an SSD on their system?

Jan 4, 2010I've always been interested in Readyboost... It seems really clever to use flash memory for what it's good at, random data access. But usually flash drives and SD cards are very slow, like 3MB/sec.
Well I discovered that Sandisk makes a Memory Stick rated for 30MB/sec. I always thought Sony was foolish for creating another proprietary standard (a la Betamax), but in this case it seems to be the best for raw speed, and good for me since I can dedicate my VAIO CW's MS slot to Readyboost. I figured for $29 I might as well buy one and do some experimentation
So far I've done an HD Tune benchmark, but I can't test write speed because Windows doesn't allow you to delete a partition on a MS (HD Tune requires NO partition to exist). If anyone knows how to do this, let me know. Right now it's formatted as FAT32, but I don't know how that influences HD Tune.....
Acer :: TM 800Hardware- Extreme Scrolling
Jul 17, 2007I am having a problem with my TravelMate 800.
The mouse and keyboard are involved. When attempting to type (in Word or in a web-browser), the cursor will immediately scroll downdown, and will only stop when pressing the "escape" key. When you start typing again, the problem re-occurs, making typing extremely frustrating. The "page down" key also doesn't work.
When restarting, a blank screen will appear with a blinking "-" cursor at the top of the screen, and the notebook will beep nonstop until you press a key. Windows will then slowly load. It is not a virus problem as I've checked using Norton Antivirus, and removed
spyware.
I believe it's most probably a software problem, and have tried to repair my system, but the recovery CDs didn't work. I got fed up and tried to format the notebook.... at first, the system CD loaded, but wouldn't go anywhere and there was a "not ready reading from drive z: abort, retry or fail" option, and none of the options worked. After attempting to reboot the second time, it would come up to a point saying:
PS/2 device found
EGA/VGA connected
Mouse driver installed

Sep 20, 2009I work with my mac (Macbook Unibody Late 2008) and my buddy with his crappy netbook running Windows XP. It seems that his netbook is able to find significally more wireless networks than I can get with my airport card. The networks we both can find, his netbook always has a FAR better signal than what my Macbook and pull. Can anybody let me know if theres some kind of issue with my airport card or is there something i dont know about with wireless networks....

Nov 7, 2009I had WiFi with my trusty AirPort Extreme...until I installed AirPort Express. Now I have a whopping nothing!
AirPort Express keeps blinking the amber light of death (with internet connected), and will not transmit a signal. {Yes I have troubleshooted this thing over and over again to no avail}.
I have also switched the internet cable back over to my trusty AirPort Extreme, which will give me a green light, which promptly throws my network name into the list of available networks, but there is no signal strength displayed (in bars) and the Mac cannot connect to it.
I hope someone out there in MacLand might have a possible solution before both of these non-working airport devices find themselves flying out the window!

May 4, 2010I setup the dual band Airport extreme station a few weeks ago and my Macbooks Pros have been working no problems. Blazing speeds.
When it comes to my 2 desktop PCs, though, a lot of problems.
My one PC connects and says it is connected, but the internet does not work. The page does not display at all.
My other PC (which Im on right now), also connects, but only Firefox works. IE does not display the page. I think FIrefox does work on both PCs, I just dont have it installed on the first one to verify.
What is going on? Even my iphone works flawlessly.

Jul 4, 2009I just got my Airport Extreme router, and I set up a wireless network easily. However, it doesn't cover the whole house.
So I have another router (Asus WL-530G) and I am thinking of using either of the two routers as a base and the other one as an extender.
I have tried extending the Asus network with the Airport.I got this message:"The network you selected cannot be extended"
I tried setting up a WDS network with Airport Extreme as main, remote or relay. None worked, it said no other apple airport device can be found.
Is this a compatibility issue, or did i miss something?

Feb 1, 2013I own a Dell 7520 and it has four 3.0 usb ports. However, I have discovered that one program I use does not support Intel 3.0 USB ports only USB 2.0 ports. So the only port that program will use is the Realtek USB card reader on the 7520 because that is a native 2.0 port.
According to a poster Innogen on the Intel support forum "The BIOS in my Dell Inspiron 7520 allows me to disable it so that the USB 3.0 ports revert to USB 2.0 functionality." but I can't find any such functionality in my BIOS (using version A06).

I tried uninstalling the Intel USB 3.0 drivers in WIn 7 Ultimate hoping that when I rebooted it would install USB 2.0 drivers but it simply reinstalled the USB 3.0 drivers.
I would really like to get this program working on my computer and while I am not happy about losing USB 3.0 functionality I can live with it until the vendor gets its act together and starts to support Intel USB 3.0.

Jan 3, 2010Alright, so I purchased a Studio 1745 with a Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 (2.8GHz/1066Mhz w/ 6 MB Cache), but after three delays I really don't want to give Dell my business anymore.
There is a HP with an Intel 1.6GHz i7-720QM processor on Amazon with better specs for less money. Basically,
I am wondering if there are any downsides to ordering the new i7. I don't understand how the separate cores work exactly, so I just want to know if it is an equal or better processor?

Mar 21, 2009I installed the Intel X25-M SSD in my 1 year old M1330 today, adn installed Visat x64 ultimate on it. Initially i felt some performance increase, but maybe not as much as i had hoped for.
I then ran benchmark test (read) in HD Tune Pro, and averega eonly turned up as being 105 mb/s. I have read several test and reviews of the X25-M and none of them showed those rates.
Almost all of them showed about 210 mb/s (read). My burst rate is 82.5 mb/s, cpu usuage 26.3%.
Could any one perhaps tell me why there is such a big difference in the tests? I should have all the latets drivers and firmware updates.

But is there anything i need to know before i put the SSD in the laptop and proceed with the installation. I understand there are a couple of things I need to do in BIOS and one of them is to change the SATA setting to AHCI???? ATA?? instead of RAID. And then after installation i change it back to which one???
I would do a search on the forums, but its the crappy search tool which makes its hard for me to do a specific search.

Jan 8, 2009I've been following notebookreview's threads for quite some time since I'm planning on replacing my good-old veteran Inspiron 8600 with a Precision M4400, which currently suits my needs best
I was just about to order the laptop from Ireland (which is the cheapest and most secure way of getting the M4400 to where I live at the moment - Bulgaria) but a couple of days ago I saw a piece of news about five new processors - T8700, T9550, T9800, Q9000 and P9600 Processors for the Centrino 2 platform. Now I'm waiting for the P9600 which is a bit faster (2.66 GHz)but most important for me is that it has a lower TDP rating than what I initially planned to order - T9400. I travel a lot so battery life and power drain are important for me.
Does anyone have information if the M4400 will have a P9600 option in the nearest future so that I wait a bit more? I remember that some time ago the P9500 was available within the M4400 configurator but then Dell misteriously discontinued offering it
It is also romoured that Intel will reveal the new i7 mobile processor versions soon which makes me think it all over again and maybe wait a bit more. My only doubts are that the mobile i7s would have a higher TDP which will eat up the battery in no time

Jul 16, 2007Well when I opened up my E1705 to install it, I saw there were only 2 power cords (I dont know what to call the small power cables). Anyways the 4965 has 3 ports for power as you can see in this picture
I upgraded from a Dell 1500 draft N, which has only 2 of those powers, one on the left and right, but not one in the middle like the Intel has
I tried installing it with only the left and right ones, the same way the dell one was installed and it seems to work fine, but the Wifi light blinks like crazy if im ever doing anything (such as gaming, or everytime something is downloading)

Oct 20, 2008I opted for 2 7200 RPM drives for my configuration. I also selected the quad core processor, 1gb video and 8gb of ram. I was very close to purchasing with SSD drives, but my first experience with SSD wasn't very good. I purchased one of the first XPS 1330 with the 32gb SSD option. I really bought into all the hype and after about 60 days I swapped it out with a 7200 rpm drive. Anyway, looks like SSD drives have improved drastically.
I was just reading some reviews and performance tests on the Intel X-25 80gb SSD drives. I'm considering buying two for the M6400 and setting them up RAID 0. I really don't care about storage space.

So far using HDTune and other tools to perform read/write test, I have been getting very low performance than the actual average speed from Intel.
My m6400 is a QX9300, 8GB ram, using AHCI with the latest Intel drivers and tools.
