I work with my mac (Macbook Unibody Late 2008) and my buddy with his crappy netbook running Windows XP. It seems that his netbook is able to find significally more wireless networks than I can get with my airport card. The networks we both can find, his netbook always has a FAR better signal than what my Macbook and pull. Can anybody let me know if theres some kind of issue with my airport card or is there something i dont know about with wireless networks....
I have a Printer, 2 Macbook Pros, and 4 Vista PCs connected to an Airport Extreme. The 2 Macs see the printer just fine. But I couldn't get the Vista machines to see the printer.
I had WiFi with my trusty AirPort Extreme...until I installed AirPort Express. Now I have a whopping nothing!
AirPort Express keeps blinking the amber light of death (with internet connected), and will not transmit a signal. {Yes I have troubleshooted this thing over and over again to no avail}.
I have also switched the internet cable back over to my trusty AirPort Extreme, which will give me a green light, which promptly throws my network name into the list of available networks, but there is no signal strength displayed (in bars) and the Mac cannot connect to it.
I hope someone out there in MacLand might have a possible solution before both of these non-working airport devices find themselves flying out the window!
I setup the dual band Airport extreme station a few weeks ago and my Macbooks Pros have been working no problems. Blazing speeds.
When it comes to my 2 desktop PCs, though, a lot of problems.
My one PC connects and says it is connected, but the internet does not work. The page does not display at all.
My other PC (which Im on right now), also connects, but only Firefox works. IE does not display the page. I think FIrefox does work on both PCs, I just dont have it installed on the first one to verify.
What is going on? Even my iphone works flawlessly.
bought the newest airport extreme after my DIR-655 modem crapped out on me. I was surprised to see that the touted feature of MIMO is not supported by any of the current Macs.
I have 2 computers at home: the Macbook Pro and a desktop. I was thinking of getting an Airport Extreme router... I want to be able to access the hard disk of the desktop, from the Macbook. Can Airport Extreme do that?
I have had my 13"mbp for a few months now, and recently the internet just stops working, nothing comes up nothing disconnects, websites will just continue to say "loading" and eventually brings up the failed to open page, if I disconnect my airport and reconnect it works fine it has started to do this more and more now and usually ranges from about 5-15 minutes. One night I got extremely pissed off as it did it every 5 minutes for 1/2 an hour or so. Every now and then it will work fine for an hour or two of surfing the internet. I am pretty sure it is something with my airport and my wireless router. I have used other wireless routers and not once have I had this problem, and while I am surfing my gf can use the internet on her computer or i phone without being disconnected its just me. I have tried reseting my router and that did nothing. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do or if there is something I can check, it is an older extreme wireless G dlink router.
I currently use an orange livebox for the wireless at home, signal is great everywhere except in my bedroom, where I would really like to have access to the internet, but am currently just out of range.
Am i right in thinking that the said item increases the range of the current wifi meaning i could connect to the internet in my room?
my girlfriend just bought the airport express and is having trouble setting it up. She said she hooked up the express to the wall and connected it to her dsl modem and then connected the modem to the ethrenet port in the wall. After install AirPort utility on hermacbookshe tried setting up the express but it can't find it. The express has a flash orange light and I read the manual and it says it can't establish a network connection. We've tried unplugging it and plugging it back in and tried multiple ethrenet cords but it still doesn't work.
On my macbook I noted that when I just switch the airport ON, in order to search for some WIFI networks, the macbook completely freezes if I have the 3G usb already connected to internet.
This happens also if the 3G pen is only searching the 3G network (after being plugged) and then I switch the airport ON.
Why does this happen?
May all people having a 3G subscription try this?
I do not understand why this occurs. I will try on Monday in the Apple store but I would like to have your help also. For your information, I have a huawey e169 3G drive.
I live at a Loft where everyone tenant has their own ATT 2wire modem. Periodically, the connection will drop and sometimes, it won't connect back. The 2wire modem at my loft WAS WPA protected and I've read that if you change it to WEP, it would solve the problem. I thought this was legitimate as my 2wire modem back home is WEP protected and my connection never dropped back at home.
So I changed it to WEP here at the Lofts and for about a day, there was no dropped connections. Now, the dropping is back even on WEP.
Ive always used FAT32 for compatibility on ext. HDDs, but now i need to put a massive 100GB image on an ext. drive, how should i format the drive so that both a Macbook and an XP computer can access it?
I am playing games like Modern Warfare 2, L4D2, GTA4, BF2 non stop. I have been playing for about 14 hours a day for the last 5 days, and obviously the fans are going at max speed non stop.
Will this extended heating damage/reduce the life of the laptop?
I thought this was only happening to me, but after reports of many other users online, it seems that after the SL upgrade, many Mac users have been witnessing this "service battery" message that displays when you hover over the battery icon.
My mac was bought in Jan 2008, but i do not think it's in bad shape.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is Apple planning to address this?
Just want more information, that I'm sure you guys are aware of..
I just bought a new HP ENVY-4 with Windows 8 pre-installed. After some weeks in which it worked fine, the computer started to have some trouble. Then it simply did not start anymore. As I shitch on, stay for a while with black screen and then a blue mask appears saying "selected boot image did not authenticate". Only chance is therefore to press ENTER and then the computer shut off completely. I went trough your forum and tries almost everything. Recovery tools run, but not resolve. After the treatment, the problem is still there. I noticed that If I try to run the tool "repair problems to start windows", computer says that was not able to repair.. I also open BIOS and changed the setting relevant to secure boot and legacy mode... the computer simply does not start! I finally re-formatted the PC trhough the USB reboot key, (done with the HP support tool, when it was new)... same problem appear as I restart!
I just removed the stock HDD that came with my M4-1015x and now I'm trying to install windows 7 to the SSD that I replaced it with. However, upon boot up I get the message "Selected boot image did not authenticate. Press <enter> to continue" when the laptop attempts to read the OS from the disc. I've never seen this before... (It's a legitimate DVD copy of Windows 7) ...
I was trying to install windows 7 when i got the "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GTP disks etc"  Error.  I know i needed to disable something in bios but this laptop's bios isn't very detailed , i tried disabling the Legacy boot and now the laptop doesn't boot up anymore, not even in bios. When i power it on all i get is a black screen and the Caps lock blinks twice.  I tried pressing the windows key+B+ power button for one second while the laptop is shut down but it didn't do anything.
I have a Inspiron Mini 1012. I created the restore factory image on a usb through the Dell DataSafe local backup program that it came with. Had no problem installing it. But when I turn on computer and boot into the usb I get an all black screen with the following. BTW the laptop has no problem starting up regularly no issues at all. Will be selling and want to wipe the drive.
WINDOWS BOOT MANAGER:
WINDOWS FAILED TO START. A RECENT HARDWARE OR SOFTWARE CHANGE MIGHT BE THE CAUSE.
System Will not Wake Up from Sleep Mode / power button continues to glow even when shutdown option is selected Motherboard failure due to any internal short circuit could be the reason of this technical glitch...
My MBP keeps "forgetting" my wireless network at home. It will work fine for a while and then it will stop connecting and give me a connection timeout error. If I change the password on the network (WPA2) it will work fine for a while. iPhone works fine on the same network and MBP works fine at school on unsecured network. it's the last generation, right before unibody
Right now I have a 1st generation Time Capsule that is set to work with b/g wireless adaptors because the iPod Touches in the house need to be able to connect to the 'net. I'll be picking up an Airport Express in the near future. Will I be able to switch the Time Capsule to the 5Ghz N setting, and be able to extend the network using the Airport Express while configuring the Airport Express to broadcast to b/g adaptors?
I have a USB dongle connected to the USB port on the left side of my MBP. I'm not sure which side the wireless adapter is located in the MBP, but there seems to be interference between the two as I just been having alot of problems connecting to my wireless network. Because of the lack of space on my desk, the left side of the MBP is facing toward a wall (parallel to it), so therefore the Magsafe, USB, and audio ports are facing toward the wall. I have not been able to even detect my wireless network until I decided to remove the USB dongle temporarily and rescan for wireless networks. It finally worked then! So, do you guys think there is a possibility the USB dongle is interfering with the wireless adapter built in MBP? If so, what can I do about it (the right USB port is powering a WD Passport because the left USB does not provide enough power)?
I have an Airport Extreme linked to an external hard disk. The HD is formatted in GUID partition scheme and it's split into 3 partitions.
One of the partitions is a Macintosh HD partition with Snow Leopard on it. I can boot into Snow Leopard when the external HD is plugged via USB to my MBP.
But when I plug it into the Airport Extreme, I couldn't find a way to boot from it. Do you know a way?
I've got my Vista computer and OS X computer on the same network. I set up Mac's file sharing via SMB. So I can see my entire Mac HD from my Vista computer now. I tried transferring some files to it, and it was incredible slow, around 170kbps. I know there's ways to transfer much faster than this, so maybe I'm doing something wrong.
The MacBook is wired to the router, while the Vista is wireless. At the moment I don't have an extra ethernet cable.
If I'm running a copy of say Warcraft III or Age of Empires on my Vista 64 desktop, and have a Powerbook G4 running Leopard 10.5.5 on the same network with another legit copy of the game on it, can the games "see" each other on the network and allow network play, even though its two different OS's?
Or is it a strictly Windows to Windows or Apple to Apple setup in order to game in this way?
out of the blue connecting to a server takes about 20-30 seconds. This problem remains, also the connections close by themselves. When I boot linux on this machine there is no problem. Other machines on the network have no problems. Connecting to these other machines with this laptop show the same results ->slow connection, difficult browsing. (the domain controller is a slack box - no machine restrictions are in order)
-Firewall is down for the occasion but no effect. -There were no recent updates. -It doesn't matter what interface I use wireless or Ethernet.
My guess is problem with samba. Restarting samba or restarting osx have no effect. Resolve.conf shows the right info and HTTP traffic is normal. I find reinstalling is no option. I want to know the problem and if there are more users with the same problem. OS: OSX 10.5.6
