HP/Compaq :: ZAGG InvisibleShield For The Dv5

Jan 6, 2009

I sent ZAGG an inquiry to see if they are planning on making an InvisibleShield for the dv5.

YES THEY ARE!

They are actually having people send their dv5's in so they can use them as templates for the final product. I'm sending mine in tomorrow, which sucks because I just got the laptop in the mail today. But I can handle living without it for a week and a half since they are paying for everything except the shipping to their facility in Utah. Totally worth $20 for the shipping and insurance considering it's $14.95 for a custom order, $10 for installation and $39.95 for most of the laptop InvisibleShields. Plus they are installing it and working with that stuff is kind of a pain (I put it on my iPhone).

You might be able to get in on this if you contact their customer support. You would have to get your laptop there by Monday of next week (Jan 12th, 2009).

Dell :: Studio 1569 ( Studio S15z-2249CPN) Best Buy Blue Label CNET Review

Mar 28, 2010

What I found quite interesting in the cnet review is that their performance testing of the Dell 1569 was second place just behind the Toshiba E205-S1904 (the other Best Buy Blue Label). I do not understand why, the specs are basically the exact same specs, EXCEPT our Dell has a 500gb 7,200rpm hard drive while the Toshiba has a 500gb 5,400 rpm hard drive. I would think, if anything our performance would be slightly better than the Toshiba because of our 7,200rpm hard drive. All the other specs are the same.

So, with that being said, why did the Toshiba have slightly better performance numbers than ours, since as I keep stating all the specs are the same except we have a faster hard drive?

Dell :: Studio XPS 1645 / Studio 1747 Wireless Configs

Dec 3, 2009

Does anyone have any idea why? Is this something affecting Dell globally or is it just UK/Europe in a mess?

I guess I could survive with just wireless G, but it seems ridiculous to be limited to that these days;

I guess I could also just order it and pick up an intel/dell Wireless N card for ~£25 and install it myself,

but again the question arises, why is it necessary? I assume some of you do have an 802.11n card of some description in your 1645/1747's have you seen any problems with it? .....

Dell :: Audio Latency /Solutions With All Studio & Studio XPS

Feb 24, 2009

Recently i ordered a Dell Studio XPS and like many of you with dell's,my main use was to be for audio production,dj'ing or any sort of thing pertaining to music.After ordering and then reading up online,ALOT of people are having problems getting the latency and/or pops skips & jumps out of their sound source.

Some say the problems lie within the Lan card,some say video card.And most importantly,Dell does not have an answer to the problem because they are not trained to understand audio type situations(Unfortunately).So...Here is where we are going to solve this thing(or try really hard because besides that...these are prett good laptops otherwise) Once i get mine in the next 3 days,im going to tell you what i did because i WILL fix it or at least try hard and fail.

Dell :: Studio And Studio XPS Laptops, Who Are They For And What Are The Primary Differences?

Apr 23, 2009

I'm interested in purchasing one of these two. Probably 15'' for the Studio or the 16'' for the Studio XPS.

I'm just a bit confused as to what the target users are, they seem very similar. From what I can see, the Studio XPS just has a better exterior and a superior display.

I intend to use the laptop for document editing, media (HDMI out to hdtv, most likely) and casual gaming. Price range is about 1300 CAD.

Dell :: Studio XPS 1645 Or Studio 1747 ???

Nov 6, 2009

I'm university student and ntb is meant to be carried almost daily (16" is ok for me), it's mainly for multimedia oriented jobs, some programming in C and Mathematica, some photoshop or even premiere (occasionaly), A LOT of movie watching. I also want it to be futureproof and well-built.

Dell XPS 1645 meets most of my criteria, but there are few things I'm unsure about...
1) after reading a couple of reviews and many posts on this forum I'm really doubtful if RGB-LED is worth the extra money. I'm not doing colour sensitive job (however I do sometimes edit RAW images in PS), but i want things on the display to look natural, especially in FullHD movies... (and I'm occasional gamer too)

Those who had honor to work with RGB-LED: would you pay for it in my position???

And just to make sure I haven't overlooked something: biggest DISadvantages of RGB-LED are supposed to be: inaccurate colors, bigger power consumption and some heat produced;
while advantages should be: 0,4" gain in size, wider gamut and (maybe) better brightness...

Do you know any more to be added?

2) I'm also considering usual Studio 17 with Core i7 720QM (almost the same config), because it should be cooler, it has numpad and place for additional hdd (I'd buy 80GB intel ssd 34nm for system while keeping stock 500GB for data, I think it's beatiful idea), but what I DISlike about studio 17 is: dimensions, weight, speakers and design (and maybe a bit worse overal built quality).

So which one do you think is better for me?

3) how does combined e-sata/usb work? Since I have a external e-sata drive I have to plug 2 cables at the moment: USB for power and e-sata... With this 2-in-1 port do I need only 1 special cable? Or is it meant to be either/or thing??? From the placement of combined e-sata/usb on the opposite side of ntb than other USBs I'd say that 1 cable should be enough,

Dell :: Studio XPS 1645 Vs Studio XPS 1647

Feb 23, 2010

I am looking to get a Studio XPS 16 soon, but can't quite decide on which model to get and had a few questions...

1) What is the battery life of the 1647 (i5) compared to the 1645 (i7) assuming they have the same specs. I've read that i5's should last longer, but I really couldn't find anything comparing the two for these systems.

2) When configuring the 1645 and 1647 side-by-side with the same specs. The 1647 is about the same price as the 1645, if not more (depending on which processor selected). I thought the i5's were supposed to be less expensive than the i7's. Since they are about the same price, would it be better to go with the i7? Any reason to choose the i5 over i7?

The studio 14z seems to be a little smaller and lighter than the xps 13.

14z also suppose to have a 6 hour battery life with 8 cell. better than xps 13

The xps 13 has a 9500m vs the 9400, but i heard thats only for conserving battery, or does it outperform the 9400

Dell :: Studio 15 Or Studio XPS 13?

Jul 29, 2009

Looking for some help deciding between the Studio 15 and Studio XPS 13. With my school discount, they come within $20 of each other, spec'd the way I want, so price does not factor in.

The laptop will be used primarily for word processing, Internet, and old (non-3D) games so I would elect to take a 2.1 GHz Core 2 Duo and the standard integrated graphics on each.

Reasons I am drawn to the XPS model is it is lighter and more portable, looks a lot nicer, has a better backlight (inlcuding trackpad buttons), and is supposed to be much sturdier.

I still like the 15 because it has much better audio and speakers (+sub), supposedly stays cooler than the 13 (which is important since I want to use it as a LAPtop), and offers a matte screen option which I would prefer over the glossy in the 13 .....

Studio:: Studio 15 Motherboard

I bought my Studio direct from Dell. When i called they said that they couldnt add my thumbprint scanner, so they upgraded me from 2GB ram to 4GB, 250GB hdd to 320GB, and from the T5800 processor to the T8100.

My question is what motherboard do you think I am going to be getting becuase the T5800 and T8100 cant both fit the same kind of motherboard, so what are they doing? The T8100 isnt an option if you go online and configure it so I'm wondering what is going on

No complaints though... lets see thumbprint scanner, 2x ram and better cpu...

Dell :: Studio 15 Or Xps 16

XPS16 or Studio 15

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am planning to buy an new laptop for home (games,video,music and ect.) and considering two options:
Dell xps 16, i-7 core 720QM (1,6ghz, 6mb cache), full HD LCD 1080p with true life, 4096MB 1333Mhz memory, 500GB hardrive, 9cell baterry, 1GB ATI HD 4670 videocard, +bluetooth (999£)

Dell Studio15 (1558), i-7 core 720QM (1,6ghz, 6mb cache), 4096MB 1333Mhz memory, 500GB hardrive, 1 GB ATI HD 5470 video, 9cell baterry, Full HD LCD 1080p Wled with truelife, =bluetooth (900£)

As you can see both xps and studio can have the same tech. spec. So it is hard for me to choose wich one is better. I red a lot of reviews about them. And can tell some advantage of each of them.

Dell studio 15 advantages:

1. A bit cheaper

2. Runs better Windows 7 operating system. (Dell studio xps was built for vista operating system but also can run windows 7, but older models has some problems with it)

3. Has more upgrade options then xps (dont know if it is advantage because xps was built as high performance laptop meanwhile studio 15 as medium performance laptop but after some upgrades from dell company we now have a studio 15 which you can upgrade to high performance.)

4. Newer model laptop then xps16

5. Doesnt have so many overheating problems then xps16. (At least medium performance studio 15, dont know how about high performance, anybody knows how it is with overheating for studio 15 with intel - i7)

XPS 16 advantages:

1. Style

2. Sound system

3. Video card ATI 4670 slightly better than ATI 5470 for games. But both are not the best cards for gaming. I called to dell and told them next time to release a laptop for home with better video card options. Because it doesnt make sence when you have to choose between 512MB and 1GB crap.

4. I heard that xps 16 LCD 1080p is better than upgraded Studio 15 LCD with same tech. spec.(full HD, 1080p, truelife). Dont know if its trueth.

So can anybody tell wich one i should buy. Especialy who uses these laptops can you give me advice. i dont want a gaming laptop because i hate alien W. design. I need a high quality, good performance, nice laptop for a good price.

Dell :: Just How Bad Is Studio XPS 13?

Mar 9, 2009

I've been meaning to get a new laptop for some time now, and when I first saw the specs of the SXPS 13 I thought it was a dream laptop. Problem is that when I started reading reviews it seems like it has a huge number of problems, including:

- heat, heat and more heat (I hope to use it on my lap regularly, but on low power)
- audio driving hogging half of CPU
- sporadic freezing and crashes
- bloatware
- fingerprint magnet
- battery life being substandard (big problem for me)

That said, I'm not sure whether the above problems are just affecting a small portion of users or are widespread. So I was wondering if I could get an idea of how good/bad the SXPS really is from those who have actually had first hand experience.

Dell :: Studio 15 Fan

Oct 8, 2008

I did my bios update on my studio 15, I have had some issues with the fan (which is pretty much since I got the thing). Sometimes it runs normal, I use the computer, fan turns on in its "low" mode, making just the light hum that you can barely hear, if I game, it turns onto medium, etc etc. But sometimes (more often than not really) the fan just turns on and stays on its HIGHEST speed, nonstop, to the point where my cpu temp has actually dropped as low as 28 degrees with the fan still running non stop. Its the main fan, on the back left that keeps running. But, there seems to be a slight solution. If I life the left side, specifically the left side, corner closer to me, the fan eventually stops, the computer runs normal and all.. just as long as I keep that corner lifted. If I even place my hand on the underside of the computer there, the fan turns on again, full blast. Now, I know this could be crappy sensors, or it could be my power management system (vista's default one i think)... But I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas, since I would rather not have to send it back for 2 weeks just so they can change a stupid sensor.
