Dell :: M1530 Processor Upgrade
May 3, 2010
I've been out of the hardware game for quite some time. Cisco for 2 years will make you forget stuff.
I have a Dell XPS M1530, T9300 processor. I am wondering if I can upgrade to the T9900. Also, my current processor is 32 bit. Can I get a T9900 in 64 bit, and will it work with my mobo? OS doesn't matter, can redo it. I am trying to beef it up for better gaming. 3gb ram is killing me...
Another question. Just wondering if it is possible to get an i5 or i7 instead? Will the i7 physically fit into the slot? 45nm
Yet another question. The laptop runs hot already. With a processor upgrade, surely it will run hotter.

So I want to upgrade my M1530's precessor from the 2.0Ghz one it has now (can't remember the whole name) to one with 2.4Ghz so it can play games better.
But is this possible and if it is, how do I do it and how much would it cost?

I've been wondering what is the max processor the M1530 motherboard will accept. I've searched these forums but didn't find the answer I was looking for.
Mostly I found people asking if it's possible to install a newer processor and how to do it, but nothing on what is the maximum processor the board will accept.

I've had the T5450 processor in my M1530 since March 2008 when I bought it and I feel that I should upgrade it along with the RAM rather than buy a new computer.

if it is possible to upgrade my Studio 1535's processor (Intel C2D T5750, 2.0GHz). I cheaped out on most of the parts when I first bought this thing, as I was somewhat strapped for cash, so I went with the bare-minimum processor, but now I think I can do better.
So, is it possible to replace my processor? If so, what are some compatible models? I'm looking for at least 2.4GHz, for the record.

I was looking through some of my spare parts the other day and I came across a Pentium M 2.13GHz processor I removed from an old laptop I had a while back. The only problem is it was just thrown in a drawer with some other laptop parts, where its sat for about a year.
I was just wondering if anything bad could come from using it in my laptop since it hasn't been stored in ideal conditions. I looked at it pretty closely and there don't appear to be any bent pins or anything.

i'm new to these forums and know VERY LITTLE about computers. i bought my laptop 2 years ago and cheaped out on the processor to save some cash.
i want to upgrade the processor now because it is a little slow for my liking plus i want to be able to play some newer video games like BC2 and MW2.
my current processor is an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T7100 @ 1.80GHz
I dont know too much about computers like I said but im pretty sure I want one that can run at at least 2.4GHz and read that the T8300 ran at 2.4GHz in a thread but that thread was about 3 years old XD.
edit: found an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T8600 @ 2.4GHz for $210. is that a good deal?

I'm using a Pentium M (730) 1.6 GHz processor. For the moment instead of buying a new laptop I'm interested in upgrading the processor.
The Bios shows that it can detect and appears to be able to use a dual core processor but none of the 9300's were ever sold that way.
The motherboard uses a m-FCPGA socket. Does anyone know or has tried to use a dual core processor in this motherboard? I'm even curious as a project but,
if someone has info/data on this I would truly appreciate the info. I have a 250 GHz harddrive and 2GHz on the RAM. Looking to speed this thing up a bit before finally putting her out to pasture.

I am looking to upgrade my Vostro 1500 from a T5270 to a T6400. Does anyone know if this processor is fully compatible with the Vostro? It does have a Socket P setting.
The T8*** and T9*** all have the Socket P. The T64** came out after the 8's and 9's. I would appreciate any help. I don't want to go extreme with it and spend an arm and leg but just get a little boost. Also I know the T6400 will run cooler and use less battery.

I just bought a inspiron 1545 and after buying it I have a little bit of buyers remorse concerning the processor. I opted for the Intel Core 2 Duo T6500 at 2.1Ghz, but now I think I would have been better off with a faster processor as I am planning on keeping this laptop for as long as possible.
The two processors within my budget that I am looking to upgrade to are:
P8700 (2.53Ghz) (currently an option for the inspiron 1545 configuration)
or
P8800 (2.66Ghz)
My question is whether or not the inspiron 1545 can handle these processors? I know that on the spec page for the inspiron 1545 it says that it can handle any core 2 duo. I just want to make sure that is true. I tried asking a dell tech person but he was unsure/didn't really know anything.
In addition, would I be able to upgrade to a P9700 if I wanted to?

I recently checked prices of laptop processors and found a 3.06ghz Pentium 4-M (socket 478, 533 fsb) for $55. This is the right socket, and I know the Inspiron 9300 can handle a 533 fsb, but is this processor going to work? I'm currently running the 1.6ghz at 533 fsb.
I know this processor was never an option for the 9300, hence the concern, but if it'll work for $55 why not? And, if it doesn't work, what is the highest I can move up to?

I have a Dell Vostro 1700 that ran fine with Adobe CS2 then I upgraded to CS4...
now xp takes ages to boot up and load applications - I even tried a fresh format and upgrading ram to 3GB.. -
Currently I am considering upgrading my processor from a T7250 to a T9300(or T9900) - Would upgrading the processor solve my problem and make my computer run super fast? or do I need to get a new laptop?

I'm getting a Studio 1555 with the t4200 Penryn Pentium Dual Core CPU. Would a P8600 Core 2 Duo work if I put it in the socket? It seems to be exactly the same core, just faster FSB and multiplier. My guess is Dell use the same motherboard for all 1555 laptops.

I have a Vostro 1500 that is in excellent shape. It has a T7100 processor (Merom, 65nm, 2MB cache, 800FSB, 1.8ghz). Does anyone know how high I can go?
I think Merom processors go all the way up to 2.6ghz on the 800 bus, and can have 4MB cache.

Are the components that come in a 2.26 ghz motherboard compatible with a 2.53 or 2.66 or higher ghz processor? I plan on ordering a Z590 as I fear the 690 will end up starting at a higher base price (ie like in Canada), and then upgrading it with a faster processor, more ram, etc. I just want to make sure I can do all of those things without issue.

I've been having trouble deciding on whether I should upgrade my 5920's processor/ram and if it was worth it.
I play games moderately and I just need it to perform to my standards, so far in testing this laptop it doesn't hold up too well in FPS in the games I play (Counter-Strike: Source, Warhammer, etc).
I was wondering, if upgrading my processor from the T7300 to the P8600 or maybe even the P9500 would help at all in the performance increase.
In CSS, the computer itself gets 230 FPS on the video stress test. In the real time gameplay it holds up to it, but it's just that it isn't perfect and is sometimes skippy and I will get random chops every few minutes or so. I concluded that most of it was due to the heat and possibly due to the slower processor and amount of ram I have (I have 2GB).
If I can't get this laptop working up to par I'm going to have to invest in another one, as I plan on having a laptop that I can use for school and at home on external monitor and accessories without it being the 20 pound 17" gaming laptop.
Another thing is, will using the P series of processor lower my overall laptop heat and power consumption since they are 25W compared to the T7300's 35W?

My acer 6935g has a T6600 2.2ghz processor at the moment which has a 800mhz fsb.
My question is this: what is the fastest processor that i can use? Can i upgrade to a 1066 fsb processor ? Or do i have to stick to the 800 fsb range of processors..?
My ram is curently 3gb of ddr3 pc3-8500 which i am upgrading to 4gb. So as i understand it, my ram will work at the faster fsb if i should be able to upgrade to the faster fsb range of cpu's, or have i got this wrong?
What would be the effect (if any) of a faster 1066 fsb cpu on the battery life, i mean would there be a noticable reduction ie 30 minutes or more...?
