Dell :: M1530 & Windows 7 X64 Thread!

Jan 10, 2009

I am starting this thread for the discussion of Windows 7 x64 installation on the M1530. Please limit the thred to 64 Bit only.

I just took delivery of my 1530 this morning and now have it exclusively running Win7x64. So far, so good on basic functionality, but I hope to delve into performance and gaming issues tomorrow. I will be running benchmarks in order to compare 7 and Vista.

So far I have only installed Symantec AV 2009 Gaming Edition and Steam. Everything else is either stock to Win7x64 or came down via Windows Update.

Dell :: M1530 And Crysis Warhead Settings Thread

Sep 19, 2008

I'm currently working out an optimal set of settings to get this thing running at an average of 40-45 FPS with eye candy and thought I could get some ideas here of where to go. Could we have those users with the game post their settings and driver versions and what performance you're able to land?

And what specific settings dictate the nature of the explosions? I'd be satisfied maxing those out while keeping the other things at "Mainstream."

forgot to mention the game is being run in dx9 mode

Would be good if people who have been running the beta, or have access to technet could share the experience and information with the rest of us who have pre ordered and are waiting for october 22nd to install this on our machines....

Dell :: Should We Start An Official 1640/1645 And Windows 7 Thread?

Oct 19, 2009

What does everyone think about starting a dedicated thread for the XPS 1640 (and 1645?) with Windows 7? ("Official 1640/1645 and Windows 7 Thread")

I think starting now, there will be a flurry of driver updates, behaviors, tips, questions, etc.,

and it seems it would benefit everyone to have all those in one place instead of having to search through a myriad of individual posts

HP/Compaq :: Windows 7 Update Thread

Nov 13, 2009

Got my update disk today.

While installing and 'expanding files', the disk tray popped open at 21%. I pushed it back in, waited an hour, and it never went past 21% (Though the HDD light was chugging along like it was doing something). I restarted and now I'm waiting to roll back to Vista and start over. Anyone else have a similar issue on a Dv3?

Update: I ran the disk again after rolling back and it gave me the same problem. An error message pops up after it says "Windows needs to be restarted". That message is one of those 0.5second messages you can't really read, then the tray pops open, and windows restarts.

Sony :: Vaio Z11 Series And Windows 7 Thread

I want to install Windows 7 on my UK Sony VGN-Z11VN, however, cannot find the Windows 7 drivers inc Globetrotter WWAN driver.

People are discussing newer Z models in other threads and cannot find much info about installing it on the Z11 and I'm sure lots of Z11 owners also want to install Windows 7.

Therefore I'm creating this dedicated thread for us Z11 owners how to install Windows 7.

Dell :: [Official] XPS M1330 Windows 7 X64 Thread [Official]

Nov 24, 2009

I created this thread with the intention of grouping all who have, or in the process, or are planning to upgrade to Windows 7 x64 for the XPS M1330.

Personally I'm currently on Vista Ultimate x86 (because it's a Product Red) and I'm entitled to a free Windows 7 Professional x64 license from my school. I've read that it's not possible to upgrade directly from higher-to-lower (in terms of level of OS).

Like for mine I'd only be able to upgrade directly if I had a Windows 7 Ultimate license.

Hence for my case, I would like to seek the advice from the helpful fellas here on my upgrade (sequence) options.

Currently I have 2 partitions, as per default. C drive as OS and main partition of 285GB and D drive as RECOVERY of 9.99GB.

Questions:
1) If I were to install Windows 7 on a newly created partition, ie. F drive (as my DVDRW is on E drive now), would I be able to format my C drive (after backing up data from it) and turn it into a storage drive?

2) If 1) is possible, should I partition F drive to 20-25GB as the norm capacity for Windows 7 OS installation, or should I allocate more space? (I'm asking this because I've never done an OS-only partition + Data-only partition in any computer I own because I don't see the usefulness of it LAST TIME.

3) If I had an OS partition in F drive, 20-25GB, and the Data partition on C drive (after formatting Vista), would I be able to swap these 2 drive letters so C drive becomes my Windows 7 OS Drive and F drive becomes my Data drive?

4) If that's the case, would I still be needing D drive (RECOVERY), or can I format->delete it?

5) Having 20-25GB in C drive, assuming I've swapped F drive with C drive, where would I be installing my applications? Do I need to install applications into the OS drive or can I install it in the Data drive? Because if it were the case that applications NEED to be installed into the OS drive, I'd need to allocate a little more space in now-C drive, right?

Dell :: Windows 7 And New Hdd On XPS M1530

Jul 18, 2009

I am thinking of pre ordering a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium for my 1530 to keep it up to date.

Here in the UK it's only £45 delivered, but rather than formating my Vista copy I was gonna get a new 7200rpm drive to put it on, cos it's a good excuse!

Anyhoo, my questions are;
Can I swap drives without voiding my 3 year Dell warranty?
Which version, 32bit or 64?
What are the pros of the 64bit over the 32?
Finally, will I be able to get drivers for my hardware, eg Dell bluetooth module and webcam etc, even on the 64bit version?

I Installed the windows 7 beta and had everything up and running smooth after i installed all my apps i went to add my music library to winamp. Now ahead of time everything works fine in vista and it seemed to work smoother and faster in win7 to this point. My harddrive with music is on a NAS drive that is on my linksys wrt610n router.

the three times i tried to scan my music from the NAS drive to winamp it blue screened.

I could not get it to bluescreen any other time but when i was trying to add my music library to winamp. Anyone expierance this or have any idea how to fix it?

It bluescreens and reboots so fast i do not even get any information from the bluescreen.

3 gb of ram
seagate 200gig 7200rpm drive

And the gadgets are dead as well. cant even run it..

Tried to install Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility like a first, then Chiptet driver -but unsuccsesfull..the Intel turbo memory driver installation had problems too. Dad to instal them in under "vista compatible mode"

Dell :: For Windows 7 On An Xps M1530

Jan 13, 2010

Currently, I had to have dell fix/ replace my motherboard/ gfx card and the HDD as both died on me.

Since I was unable to recover data from the other harddrive I was thinking about upgrading to windows 7. Though unsure if it was worth it for me to bother with the 64 bit version thus sticking with the 32 bit if upgrading at all.

As when I was reading up on it, I noticed that the reason 32 bit OS reserve that extra .5 gb of 4 gb was for I/O or some other reason.

So What I am wondering is if I installed the windows 7 64 bit version, would it allow my processor to touch the reserved/ unaddressable section of the ram ( the .5 gb of 4 gb of ram I have installed windows doesn't recognized. In vista it recognized only 3.5 gb of it .....

I am loving W7. Its really slick and best of all simple. So far just about everything important seems to be working fine. I updated the nvidia driver. But there are some things that seem to be non-functional...

such as the the sound drivers (even though I get sound. Sound Blaster says I need them in order to install), webcam, bluetooth and scroll bars on the mouse pad.

I was wondering if there are any drivers that have been released that fix these issues. If not... oh well don't really care but it would be nice to have everything working.

Dell :: How To Install Windows XP 64-Bit (x64) On XPS M1530

Nov 18, 2008

How to install Windows XP 64-Bit (x64) on XPS M1530

Is it possible? Yes it is! For those of us who enjoys Windows XP and need that 4GB+ ram for bragging rights, here is a HOWTO (with pictures) for you. This is working on a Dell XPS M1530 with an PM965 chipset, T9300 CPU, 4GB DDR2 ram, and 256MB GeForce 8600M GT video card. I will not guarantee that this will work on ALL Dell XPS M1530 systems. For those with the same laptop specs, this should work for you.

You will need:Basic knowledge of installing WindowsA genuine Microsoft Windows XP 64-Bit CDDrivers pack (downloaded in this thread). This will not include drivers for your video card, touchpad, and fingerprint.Agree that by following these steps, I am in no way liable for your actions and you will take full responsibility to any damage to your computer, if it may occur

Steps:
Optional step, but recommended. Install the latest BIOS for your M1530 from the Dell website. More info on benefits of BIOS A11+ drivers here: 8 gb on xps m1530, with A11

Download the essential drivers pack HERE: [url]

Put this driver pack inside a flash drive or an external hard drive that uses a USB port. You will need this for later steps.

This essential drivers pack includes:

- Intel Mobile Chipset Driver
- Ricoh R5C832, R5C833, R5C843 Driver
- Sigmatel STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio Driver
- Marvell Yukon Ethernet Controller Driver
- Creative Labs Laptop Integrated Webcam Driver
- Intel Wireless WiFi Link Adapters Driver

*Most of these drivers are for other laptops such as the M1330, M1730, Inspiron, etc. that support Windows XP 64-Bit. Since these laptops share common hardwares, these drivers work fine on the M1530.
Before installing XP 64-Bit you need to disable the Flash Cache Module and switch the hard drive mode from AHCI to ATA. To do this, restart the computer, and then press F2 to go to the BIOS.

In BIOS under Flash Cache Module, change it to OFF:

Then under SATA Operation, switch it to ATA:
