I have the M1530 and the option to upgrade to Windows 7 Pro was presented to me and I took it. Sadly,
I started having some problems with a game so dear to me.. So instead of going back to Vista I tried to figure out Windows XP Mode.
Situation : I finish surfing web and I wanna give it a little break. I close the lid.
I have set it to goto sleep when lid closed (if any1 suggested this). I come back open up but the laptop didnt go to sleep, HDD activity is minimal but I can hear it spinning.
Also the screen is still bright but black, I can still change the brightness though with the Fn+upArrow or Fn+downArrow. In order to return to functional state I have to HARDreset.
just installed win 7 on an old trusty x300 (1.4Ghz PM, 640MB of RAM).
It runs great! actually, very impressed. anyway, about the only frustrating thing is that S3 or System standby is not available.
its grayed out on the start menu....I have power button behavior manually mapped to standby, but it hibernates instead
I have a Inspiron 14R for about a year and half now. This computer has done this since day one for some reason:
When I put the 14R in SLEEP mode, the computer remains in sleep mode for about 2-3 hours, then the computer shuts itself off, or goes into hibernation mode on it's own. The computer has Windows 7 Premiuim.
I have the power saving modes all set too SLEEP, and none in hibernation in any of the selections. I cannot for the life of me why this computer does this. I have a Lenovo I bought about a year later using Windows 7 Premium with all the same settings in the POWER section, and while in sleep mode, it STAYS in SLEEP mode, no matter the length of time in that mode. Any setting I need to turn off, and where to find it?Â
Is anyone else out there running Windows 7 RC that just came out?(please don't whine about the fact this isn't production software, I work in IT and i purposefully installed this to start tinkering).
Whenever I close the lid on my m1330 and it goes in to sleep mode when I open it later I find it is turned off.
When i turn it on it boots up and says windows shut down unexpectedly and give me the safe mode prompts, etc

View 5 Replies View RelatedI received my Dell Inspiron 15R - 5520 laptop and am attempting to set it up to perform a UEFI boot to a Windows 7 (64 bit) installation.  I am using bios version A11 which is the latest available.
If I use legacy, I am able to boot fine to the Installation DVD and install/use the system. Â If I use UEFI (non-secure boot), Â it will freeze during the boot process for a long period of time. Â I do not ever get to the GUI to attempt installation. I have tried clearing the disk partitions using diskpart -> clean to ensure it is not due to having GPT vs MBR and have also tried changing the SATA adapter to ATA vs AHCI.
Alternately, Â I am able to boot to, Â and install Windows 8 RTM in UEFI mode. Â
Before I get a lot of responses of "Don't use UEFI", Â the reason I purchased this laptop was for the purpose of dual booting between windows 8 and windows 7 for development purposes, Â and require the use of secureboot to properly test the software I am developing. Â If this laptop is not able to run Windows 7 in UEFI mode, Â I will need to return it and select an alternate vendor.
my Windows is not able to boot and I have to repair it with a Windows Vista DVD taken from another Dell (Desktop) PC. The installation is not able to detect a drive and so I am not able to select a Windows installation to repair. I need the drivers for the Harddisk (or controller) to add it to the repair process. The problem is that on the Driver support page only firmware for the hard drive is available but no .inf file that I need for the repait.
where I can find the .inf file or if it is possible to extract the file from the destroyed windows installation (via live-linux).
I entered Safe Mode in my Envy TS 15 running windows 8.1 to fix some issues with my Norton software and now I can't figure out how to exit back to normal mode. Â Internet is shut off in safe mode (even though I selected safe mode with networking) so I can run any of Support resolutions. How to do this?

It never got to finish operation. Now it is just coming up with a black screen saying, Windows boot manager
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change it might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. insert windows installation disc and restart computer (which it will not let me do)2. choose your language settings  and then click next 3. click repair your computer
if you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance

I just installed windows 7 on my SR190. The fn volume keys work but my brightness keys don't. Also, the vaio mode switch isn't starting up. something about application failure. Is there a specific order for the driver installation?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI can't seem to change the brightness level in Speed Mode, be it through Fn keys or Power Option on the laptop. I've tried disabling UAC and running VESMgr.exe and VESMgrSub.exe as administrators. And still can't alter the brightness level. Everything else works, just the brightness option won't work in Speed Mode. Stamina Mode works flawlessly, giving me the option the change the brightness level how I want.
View 10 Replies View RelatedFor the last 2 days I have been trying to install Windows 7 x64 in UEFI mode on my laptop but it seems entirely impossible. Whatever I do, the boot menu (F12) just won't show any UEFI devices AT ALL, just the normal DVD and/or USB options. Obviously when I try to boot from either normal DVD or USB, Windows 7 setup freezes at the "Starting Windows" screen, I'm pretty sure that's because it is not running the EFI bootloader of the setup.

For the record, I can't just install Windows 7 in Legacy/BIOS mode because it is then impossible to install the Synaptics Touchpad driver under Windows because the Touchpad device is not discovered for whatever reason.
just can't seem to get my Brightness controls to work in speed mode in windows 7.
I've tried 169.09, 180.70 and the most recent forceware drivers.
I've installed the registry file that was recommended in one thread.
I've tried all kinds of orders. Still, nothing.
I've currently installed (in this order)
SPEF
SonyPI
Shared Library
SonyUtils DLL
Event Service
The Registry Patch
NVIDIA Drivers
They work fine in STAMINA, but not in SPEED. I can't even access them through Windows Mobility Center or Power Options. I can change them a very small amount though the NVIDIA control panel through the "adjust color settings" tab. Otherwise, theres no mobility options in the NVIDIA panel.
I have been struggling with installing w8 on my Ideapad z510 laptop in UEFI mode, but neither I could succeed it nor I could I find something that might work. I will clearly explain the case.
Point 1:
As I understood, to succeed w8 install in UEFI format, one needs to choose "UEFI First" mode from Boot Menu in BIOS. Then, the source of the boot needs to be specified to identify the rigid path to the documents to load so that new OS could be installed correctly.
Problem1:
It is possible to chose UEFI First from boot mode, but it's not possible to choose the USB path for UEFI booting in this case, which doesn't allow you to succeed a UEFI boot to your computer. You can't reach the DVD or USB, where the installation files are, and start installation process.
Point2:
Considering the first case, you need to choose Legacy Support mode to boot your computer and reach USB disk or DVD to install new OS on the computer.Â

Problem2:
To succeed UEFI mode booting to the computer, you need to see 4 different partitions on your disk at point of disk selection, where you choose the disk you'll install your OS. However, when you select the Legacy Support mode from BIOS, the disk partition is limited to 2 in my case, which are:
Primary diskSystem reserved (350 MB)Hence, when I continue with the installation, the OS is installed on Legacy mode. After installation, when I go to BIOS to choose UEFI mode for boot mode, the laptop checks some connections from network and says
EFI network 0 for IPv4 failedEFI network 0 for IPv6 failed respectively.
PS: Please don't tell that "you can't install, because your computer doesn't support", because I received the computer from technical service and a version of W8 was installed on it in UEFI mode. However I deleted it to install W8 pro.
I am thinking of pre ordering a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium for my 1530 to keep it up to date.
Here in the UK it's only £45 delivered, but rather than formating my Vista copy I was gonna get a new 7200rpm drive to put it on, cos it's a good excuse!
Anyhoo, my questions are;
Can I swap drives without voiding my 3 year Dell warranty?
Which version, 32bit or 64?
What are the pros of the 64bit over the 32?
Finally, will I be able to get drivers for my hardware, eg Dell bluetooth module and webcam etc, even on the 64bit version?
i have installed Win7 in my friends xps m1530 machine (Core 2duo-2.00ghz and 2gb ram, 160gb hdd with 7200rpm, nVidia 8400m gs) i didn't install any update or anything
View 3 Replies View RelatedInstalled Windows 7 but my mic is acting up. There's all this static and noise for some reason. I've tried different Sigmatel audio drivers but I can't seem to fix it.
I reinstalled Vista to make sure my hardware hadn't stuffed up but it's working fine on Vista.
I've attached a recording of 'Kalimba' from the music samples of Windows 7 which is playing from my speakers while my room is silent
According to Dell's website it is recommended that I NOT upgrade to Windows 7...which I don't understand AT ALL! My machine is only a year old, it's not outdated to run Windows 7 and has the recommended hardware that Micrsoft suggests.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI Installed the windows 7 beta and had everything up and running smooth after i installed all my apps i went to add my music library to winamp. Now ahead of time everything works fine in vista and it seemed to work smoother and faster in win7 to this point. My harddrive with music is on a NAS drive that is on my linksys wrt610n router.
the three times i tried to scan my music from the NAS drive to winamp it blue screened.
I could not get it to bluescreen any other time but when i was trying to add my music library to winamp. Anyone expierance this or have any idea how to fix it?
It bluescreens and reboots so fast i do not even get any information from the bluescreen.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI cant disable startup sound in windows 7, as well as logon or shutdown sound. I have tried to turn it on , and off an on.. but nothing.
and second problem is microphone..I am using Skype and it seems that mirophone level is set up too low...or maybe something with driver.
I've tried vista driver and the one from W update , the troubleshooting tool aswell, but it is still dead.
And the gadgets are dead as well. cant even run it..
Tried to install Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility like a first, then Chiptet driver -but unsuccsesfull..the Intel turbo memory driver installation had problems too. Dad to instal them in under "vista compatible mode"
Currently, I had to have dell fix/ replace my motherboard/ gfx card and the HDD as both died on me.
Since I was unable to recover data from the other harddrive I was thinking about upgrading to windows 7. Though unsure if it was worth it for me to bother with the 64 bit version thus sticking with the 32 bit if upgrading at all.
As when I was reading up on it, I noticed that the reason 32 bit OS reserve that extra .5 gb of 4 gb was for I/O or some other reason.
So What I am wondering is if I installed the windows 7 64 bit version, would it allow my processor to touch the reserved/ unaddressable section of the ram ( the .5 gb of 4 gb of ram I have installed windows doesn't recognized. In vista it recognized only 3.5 gb of it .....
My three week old X230 lost the ability to connect to my wifi router. I can pull up the airplane mode toggle with Fn+F5, but there is no response. I have done a factory reset, installed all Lenovo and Windows updates, uninstalled/reinstalled the intel wifi drivers. The lenovo utilities tells me the radio isn't turned on, but I can't figure out how to turn it on other than the usual ways, but they don't work. All is well in the hardware manager. I have reset the bios to default settings. I updated the bios to 2.06 when I first got the machine, and it ran fine. I can connect via a network cable.

When I take the laptop out of a sleep mode it goes immediately back into sleep mode. I do get the screen to enter my password but it's only there for like 2 seconds.Â
The second time I Â take it out, it works fine. Just a bit annoying that I have to do it twice pretty much 95 % of the time.
I am starting this thread for the discussion of Windows 7 x64 installation on the M1530. Please limit the thred to 64 Bit only.
I just took delivery of my 1530 this morning and now have it exclusively running Win7x64. So far, so good on basic functionality, but I hope to delve into performance and gaming issues tomorrow. I will be running benchmarks in order to compare 7 and Vista.
So far I have only installed Symantec AV 2009 Gaming Edition and Steam. Everything else is either stock to Win7x64 or came down via Windows Update.
Installed Windows 7 as my main OS yesterday. Its a beta 1 but its a lot better than Vista in every way possible (supports the 185.20 Nvidia beta driver).
