Jun 5, 2009I just installed windows 7 on my SR190. The fn volume keys work but my brightness keys don't. Also, the vaio mode switch isn't starting up. something about application failure. Is there a specific order for the driver installation?

Jan 14, 2009I can't seem to change the brightness level in Speed Mode, be it through Fn keys or Power Option on the laptop. I've tried disabling UAC and running VESMgr.exe and VESMgrSub.exe as administrators. And still can't alter the brightness level. Everything else works, just the brightness option won't work in Speed Mode. Stamina Mode works flawlessly, giving me the option the change the brightness level how I want.

Nov 9, 2009just can't seem to get my Brightness controls to work in speed mode in windows 7.
I've tried 169.09, 180.70 and the most recent forceware drivers.
I've installed the registry file that was recommended in one thread.
I've tried all kinds of orders. Still, nothing.
I've currently installed (in this order)
SPEF
SonyPI
Shared Library
SonyUtils DLL
Event Service
The Registry Patch
NVIDIA Drivers
They work fine in STAMINA, but not in SPEED. I can't even access them through Windows Mobility Center or Power Options. I can change them a very small amount though the NVIDIA control panel through the "adjust color settings" tab. Otherwise, theres no mobility options in the NVIDIA panel.

Feb 14, 2013I have a Inspiron 14R for about a year and half now. This computer has done this since day one for some reason:
When I put the 14R in SLEEP mode, the computer remains in sleep mode for about 2-3 hours, then the computer shuts itself off, or goes into hibernation mode on it's own. The computer has Windows 7 Premiuim.
I have the power saving modes all set too SLEEP, and none in hibernation in any of the selections. I cannot for the life of me why this computer does this. I have a Lenovo I bought about a year later using Windows 7 Premium with all the same settings in the POWER section, and while in sleep mode, it STAYS in SLEEP mode, no matter the length of time in that mode. Any setting I need to turn off, and where to find it?

It runs great! actually, very impressed. anyway, about the only frustrating thing is that S3 or System standby is not available.
its grayed out on the start menu....I have power button behavior manually mapped to standby, but it hibernates instead

May 12, 2014I entered Safe Mode in my Envy TS 15 running windows 8.1 to fix some issues with my Norton software and now I can't figure out how to exit back to normal mode. Internet is shut off in safe mode (even though I selected safe mode with networking) so I can run any of Support resolutions. How to do this?

Dec 24, 2014The laptop goes into a restarting mode, which after computer loaded the desktop and taskbar keep on restarting itself. Cant click or do anything in it.

When I turn my Z into sleep, it seems so easy to be back on again if I put it into my cases.
Everything looks fine if I just put it on the desk but it's always back ON when I take it from my suitcase

May 3, 2009Is anyone else out there running Windows 7 RC that just came out?(please don't whine about the fact this isn't production software, I work in IT and i purposefully installed this to start tinkering).
Whenever I close the lid on my m1330 and it goes in to sleep mode when I open it later I find it is turned off.
When i turn it on it boots up and says windows shut down unexpectedly and give me the safe mode prompts, etc

Apr 21, 2009I finally bought my Z series and trying to clone my HDD to my SSD using Acronis True Image with the SSD being on the outside of the computer using USB.
When it reached 80%, everything shut down as If the computer went into standby mode with the power light intermittenly turning amber. I turned it on again manually but the screen stayed blank. So I have to redo the whole cloning process again. it happened 2x already?
My Thinkpad never really went into sleep mode during cloning.
Sony :: Vaio Z In Stamina Mode
Nov 3, 2009Since I installed the new driver of Windows 7 for my Z, I have some wierd problem in Stamina mode (see attached photo). I wonder if someone has the same problem. I installed the driver in the same time that I update my Z's RAM to 6GB (bought a 4GB). It may be my new RAM, but I don't have any problem in Speed mode, no error with Memtest, and no BSOD either.

May 7, 2009thought that hibernate was better because it turns off the computer and saves battery except on my laptop the power button is defaulted to sleep so I would have thought that they would default it to that for a reason.

Feb 26, 2015For the last 2 days I have been trying to install Windows 7 x64 in UEFI mode on my laptop but it seems entirely impossible. Whatever I do, the boot menu (F12) just won't show any UEFI devices AT ALL, just the normal DVD and/or USB options. Obviously when I try to boot from either normal DVD or USB, Windows 7 setup freezes at the "Starting Windows" screen, I'm pretty sure that's because it is not running the EFI bootloader of the setup.
For the record, I can't just install Windows 7 in Legacy/BIOS mode because it is then impossible to install the Synaptics Touchpad driver under Windows because the Touchpad device is not discovered for whatever reason.

Sep 24, 2009I bought a Sony VAIO notebook from Japan (VGN CS52JB). With the help of this site I managed to convert it into Vista Home Premium English version which was originally Japanese.
Everything works perfect except the AV mode button and the capture button. (which worked fine originally)
I installed "VAIO Event Service" and "VAIO Launcher", which I thought need to have that functionality.
Do I need to install any other VAIO applications to get it working?

I recently run into the problem that when closing the lid, that the notbook does not enter standby mode as it should. It keeps on, screen black, and no response to anything... if this happens, I can only turn it off and on again.

Feb 25, 2009I can run in safe mode and in stamina mode all day long, however when I switch to Speed mode after a few secs the screen goes black and the notebook just turns off. Anyone have any ideas? I am at a total loss. I have tried a complete restore and also tried Natius drivers.

I recently discovered Sony's 'silent mode' function.. and it seems to cut the fan noise level down. What's the difference between performance mode and silent mode? Do you suppose it's alright for me to keep on silent mode, for my state of sanity (literally)?

Sony :: Why Does My Z Turn Back On After Sleep Mode
Feb 13, 2009After I put my laptop on sleep mode and shut the lid down, I always see the computer turn back on automatically after only a few minutes (I can hear the laptop working and the light turns green, although the monitor remains off).
Why is this so? The laptop also seems to turn off after a while it is turned back on from sleep mode.
I also notice my Z having a particular video error at times. That is, sometime, the laptop monitor turns black for a few seconds, turns back on at the highest brightness setting, and a error message pops up saying something about how it was unable to find a driver.

Dell Inspiron 15R-5520 :: Cannot Boot Windows 7 Install DVD In UEFI Mode
Oct 22, 2012I received my Dell Inspiron 15R - 5520 laptop and am attempting to set it up to perform a UEFI boot to a Windows 7 (64 bit) installation. I am using bios version A11 which is the latest available.
If I use legacy, I am able to boot fine to the Installation DVD and install/use the system. If I use UEFI (non-secure boot), it will freeze during the boot process for a long period of time. I do not ever get to the GUI to attempt installation. I have tried clearing the disk partitions using diskpart -> clean to ensure it is not due to having GPT vs MBR and have also tried changing the SATA adapter to ATA vs AHCI.
Alternately, I am able to boot to, and install Windows 8 RTM in UEFI mode.
Before I get a lot of responses of "Don't use UEFI", the reason I purchased this laptop was for the purpose of dual booting between windows 8 and windows 7 for development purposes, and require the use of secureboot to properly test the software I am developing. If this laptop is not able to run Windows 7 in UEFI mode, I will need to return it and select an alternate vendor.
Dell Studio 1537 :: HardDisk Not Detected In Windows Repair Mode?
Jan 23, 2013my Windows is not able to boot and I have to repair it with a Windows Vista DVD taken from another Dell (Desktop) PC. The installation is not able to detect a drive and so I am not able to select a Windows installation to repair. I need the drivers for the Harddisk (or controller) to add it to the repair process. The problem is that on the Driver support page only firmware for the hard drive is available but no .inf file that I need for the repait.
where I can find the .inf file or if it is possible to extract the file from the destroyed windows installation (via live-linux).
Lenovo P/Y/Z Series :: IdeaPad Z510 - How To Install Windows 8 In UEFI Mode
Jan 24, 2014I have been struggling with installing w8 on my Ideapad z510 laptop in UEFI mode, but neither I could succeed it nor I could I find something that might work. I will clearly explain the case.
Point 1:
As I understood, to succeed w8 install in UEFI format, one needs to choose "UEFI First" mode from Boot Menu in BIOS. Then, the source of the boot needs to be specified to identify the rigid path to the documents to load so that new OS could be installed correctly.
Problem1:
It is possible to chose UEFI First from boot mode, but it's not possible to choose the USB path for UEFI booting in this case, which doesn't allow you to succeed a UEFI boot to your computer. You can't reach the DVD or USB, where the installation files are, and start installation process.
Point2:
Considering the first case, you need to choose Legacy Support mode to boot your computer and reach USB disk or DVD to install new OS on the computer.
Problem2:
To succeed UEFI mode booting to the computer, you need to see 4 different partitions on your disk at point of disk selection, where you choose the disk you'll install your OS. However, when you select the Legacy Support mode from BIOS, the disk partition is limited to 2 in my case, which are:
Primary diskSystem reserved (350 MB)Hence, when I continue with the installation, the OS is installed on Legacy mode. After installation, when I go to BIOS to choose UEFI mode for boot mode, the laptop checks some connections from network and says
EFI network 0 for IPv4 failedEFI network 0 for IPv6 failed respectively.
PS: Please don't tell that "you can't install, because your computer doesn't support", because I received the computer from technical service and a version of W8 was installed on it in UEFI mode. However I deleted it to install W8 pro.
Sony :: Vaio Z690 Speed Mode Graphics
May 9, 2009It seems for some reason my Z690 does not work well in the speed setting. This results into videos that seem to refresh a lot, games that are slow and have jagged edges and in general slow video performance.
Whats funny is that on stamina setting, all my graphics actually do quite well. Videos play fine as do the games /w smooth edges
