Dell :: Remapping MediaDirect Button [ Studio 17 TouchButton]
Apr 7, 2010I know this has been covered a billion times but a lot of the posts I am reading are ancient.
What is the best / latest method of remapping the Dell Media Direct button on my Dell Studio 17 (touch button).
I would like it to open something else.... e.g. itunes...
Could I assign the button to perform a task? e.g. defrag C drive or am I being a little too adventurous?
Sony :: Laptops' 'Silent Mode' SR590
Jan 2, 2010I recently purchased a Sony SR590, and while I love it, I'm personally VERY susceptible to fan noise.. thus I find problems with being able to hear the fan run constantly. The fan seems to turn on, as soon as I open skype and windows media player...
I recently discovered Sony's 'silent mode' function.. and it seems to cut the fan noise level down. What's the difference between performance mode and silent mode? Do you suppose it's alright for me to keep on silent mode, for my state of sanity (literally)?
From time to time, I run Lightroom CS2, which seems to be my most CPU intensive program... otherwise I usually just have a few internet tabs open, windows media player, and a few chat windows.
Sony :: VAIO CS Series + AV Mode Button
Sep 24, 2009I bought a Sony VAIO notebook from Japan (VGN CS52JB). With the help of this site I managed to convert it into Vista Home Premium English version which was originally Japanese.
Everything works perfect except the AV mode button and the capture button. (which worked fine originally)
I installed "VAIO Event Service" and "VAIO Launcher", which I thought need to have that functionality.
Do I need to install any other VAIO applications to get it working?
Dell Inspiron 15 :: Airplane Mode Button Not Working
Jan 7, 2014I am have recently bought a dell inspiron 15 7000 series laptop. Its only been a month that I have been using it. Everything was fine but my airplane mode button (the button beside F12 and PrtScr which are working fine) stopped working. Every other buttons on the button row is fully functional so I fear its not a keyboard matrix problem? Â

Jan 27, 2014sometime in sleep mode my Yoga fall into irresponsive mode without any possibility to do anything. The power button is simply not working - pushing it for more than 30 second not change anything... Yoga red light is slowly blinking, the fn key is lighting, the fan is working, processor is heating and this follows to full drain battery.
Is any possibility to reset or reboot this "thermal brick" Yoga mode? Some computers and tablet have the hard reset button to work with such a situation - have Thinkpad Yoga similar solution (i.e. button combination invoking reset)?
Sony :: Setting Special Button Function? (Vaio Button)
Mar 20, 2010I have an S series and when I press the silver VAIO button it mutes the sound.
I haven't found where to change the function of this button.
I've only removed the following Sony apps:
media gallery
pmb 5 and pmb plugins (click2disk/image optimizer/movie story)
vaio content metadata intelligent analyzing manager
vaio transfer support
Unfortunately I can't remember the default function of this button. Perhaps it was the media gallery? I'd like to change it anyhow.
Lenovo X Series ThinkPad :: X230 Not Wake Up After Sleep Mode / Power Button Blink With No Response
Sep 5, 2012I just got my x230 yesterday and I'm having some weird issues.Â
(1) whenever my laptop goes to sleep mode. I can't seem to make it wake up. The power button would just slowly blink and would not respond to anything. I would have to hard reset my laptop for it to turn on. When I turn it back on, it would go the "Start windows normally" screen.
(2) whenever I close the lid, I'm guessing it tries to go to sleep mode, then if I wake it up, the system seem to reboot and would go to the "start windows normally" screen.
Both seems to all relates to sleep mode.

Sony :: S And SR Laptops
Mar 31, 2010so it looks like the SR has been discontinued and there is a Best Buy exclusive called the S. Is the S or another similar model going to be available through the Sony site and if so when? I called them in January and they said the S would be available shortly but I've only seen it through best buy. I ask because I'd like to custom order the specs through sony and also get a different color.

Aug 15, 2009Sony VAIO product manager, Xavier Lauwaert, addressed the issue on the Windows Partner blog. His post [answers] to a specific comment about the lack of VT capability provides an astonishing explanation and fix roadmap:
It's great that Sony are "looking forward to leveraging [Windows 7] on their platforms." However some of their recent laptops are unable to leverage all the features of Windows 7.
Sony's decision to disable Virtualization Technology on the Intel chips on their high-end notebooks makes little sense when you consider that these machines are targeted at business consumers. It was also annoying to find this out _after_ I had bought the machine, since none of the pre-sales literature mentioned it.
Even more so when you realise that Windows 7 will include a virtual Windows XP installation to provide backwards compatibility. This will run with impaired performance on any Sony laptop where VT has been disabled. I would be interested to know what the Windows 7 team think about Sony crippling their customer’s ability to use their carefully constructed backwards compatibility feature?..........

Sony :: Are Bags With Magnetic Flaps Dangerous For Laptops
Apr 14, 2010I just bought a Targus bag for my Sony Vaio, and one of the features of the bag is a magnetic flap that closes. Inside the bag has pockets where I store my portable harddrive. Dell :: XPS 1340 Volume Control Button/missing WIFI Button
May 16, 2009Ok after 3 days of using the 1340 I just realized the button on the top panel that you can use to increase/decrease volume stopped working. I had updated the latest drivers from Dell site but not sure if that is the reason.
Also non of the other buttons that are for DVD work either. And I know they were working when I got the laptop and only thing I have done is update with latest drivers.
Dell Inspiron 14R :: While In Sleep Mode Goes Into Hibernation / Off Mode In About 2-3 Hours
Feb 14, 2013I have a Inspiron 14R for about a year and half now. This computer has done this since day one for some reason:
When I put the 14R in SLEEP mode, the computer remains in sleep mode for about 2-3 hours, then the computer shuts itself off, or goes into hibernation mode on it's own. The computer has Windows 7 Premiuim.
I have the power saving modes all set too SLEEP, and none in hibernation in any of the selections. I cannot for the life of me why this computer does this. I have a Lenovo I bought about a year later using Windows 7 Premium with all the same settings in the POWER section, and while in sleep mode, it STAYS in SLEEP mode, no matter the length of time in that mode. Any setting I need to turn off, and where to find it?Â

Apr 21, 2009I finally bought my Z series and trying to clone my HDD to my SSD using Acronis True Image with the SSD being on the outside of the computer using USB.
When it reached 80%, everything shut down as If the computer went into standby mode with the power light intermittenly turning amber. I turned it on again manually but the screen stayed blank. So I have to redo the whole cloning process again. it happened 2x already?
My Thinkpad never really went into sleep mode during cloning.
Sony :: Vaio Z In Stamina Mode
Nov 3, 2009Since I installed the new driver of Windows 7 for my Z, I have some wierd problem in Stamina mode (see attached photo). I wonder if someone has the same problem. I installed the driver in the same time that I update my Z's RAM to 6GB (bought a 4GB). It may be my new RAM, but I don't have any problem in Speed mode, no error with Memtest, and no BSOD either.
