Since I installed the new driver of Windows 7 for my Z, I have some wierd problem in Stamina mode (see attached photo). I wonder if someone has the same problem. I installed the driver in the same time that I update my Z's RAM to 6GB (bought a 4GB). It may be my new RAM, but I don't have any problem in Speed mode, no error with Memtest, and no BSOD either.

I have a VAIO VGN-SZ55GN but I found out that I can't switch between speed/stamina mode.
I had had the intel graphic driver installed automatically after I'd installed a new OS onto the laptop but I can't get the nVidia driver to work.
I tried shutting down the laptop, moved the switch to speed and turned on the laptop again but I still can't get the laptop started up w/ nVidia graphic card.
Can I adjust the brightness to maximum value or any value when in stamina mode on the Z ?

I have the switch itself set to "Stamina" but neither mode even brings up the little green light beside it. It is completely unresponsive.
Does anyone know if there is a way to switch from stamina to speed on the Sony VGN-SZ450N without the external switch? I think my switch is broken

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have my destop wallpaper/background set to change every 30 minutes, pulling from the entire picture library (which is a few gigabytes). I have noticed that every now and then...say, maybe 10-20% of the time. The desktop background goes completely black after the switch. This happens whether the switch is set to Auto or I manually flip the switch (which makes sense, actually).
The only thing that restores the picture to view is logging off and back on. None of the following have any impact or cause the picture to display:Right-clicking on the desktop and selecting.....
I bought a Sony VAIO notebook from Japan (VGN CS52JB). With the help of this site I managed to convert it into Vista Home Premium English version which was originally Japanese.
Everything works perfect except the AV mode button and the capture button. (which worked fine originally)
I installed "VAIO Event Service" and "VAIO Launcher", which I thought need to have that functionality.
Do I need to install any other VAIO applications to get it working?

I recently run into the problem that when closing the lid, that the notbook does not enter standby mode as it should. It keeps on, screen black, and no response to anything... if this happens, I can only turn it off and on again.
I have a Sony Vaio VGN-SR38 and I can't get the switch mode to work.
When I click the "mode" button or the "setting" button, nothing comes up... none of the button seems responsive.

It seems for some reason my Z690 does not work well in the speed setting. This results into videos that seem to refresh a lot, games that are slow and have jagged edges and in general slow video performance.
Whats funny is that on stamina setting, all my graphics actually do quite well. Videos play fine as do the games /w smooth edges
I have a Sony Vaio VGN-Z590 with windows 7 32 bit professional installed. When I switch to speed mode and hook up a monitor (24" dell LCD) via HDMI->DVI the graphics card temperature goes up to around 80-95C (measured with real temp 3.40) and the CPU temp also goes up into the 60-70s. No programs are using the CPU heavily. During this process the fans go up to max and the computer gets really loud. I have all the latest drivers installed and the latest BIOS.
I was wondering if anyone else has a problem like this? Would installing 64 bit windows 7 be better? It makes it really noisy when I hook up a monitor via HDMI. Any ideas?
Everything is perfect in stamina mode, low temps, low cpu usage.
just can't seem to get my Brightness controls to work in speed mode in windows 7.
I've tried 169.09, 180.70 and the most recent forceware drivers.
I've installed the registry file that was recommended in one thread.
I've tried all kinds of orders. Still, nothing.

They work fine in STAMINA, but not in SPEED. I can't even access them through Windows Mobility Center or Power Options. I can change them a very small amount though the NVIDIA control panel through the "adjust color settings" tab. Otherwise, theres no mobility options in the NVIDIA panel.
I've just installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit on my Vaio Z11MNB. As Google told me there is a problem with the FN + F5/F6 brightness adjust in speed mode.
All Sony software ist installed correctly and in the newest version I found.
As in many threads mentioned I followed the right order. But I still cannot adjust the brightness in speed mode

Another smaller problem: From time to time there is a yellow exclamation mark at the SD-Hostcontroller in the device manager. I've googled a lot but there seems to be no other driver than the windows included. VEN_1180&DEV_0822
Trying to get rid of these questionably useful programs -- but I don't see entries for them in add/remove programs in the control panel (or for any of the other useless VAIO software packages that come on OEM machines sans "fresh start")

When I put the 14R in SLEEP mode, the computer remains in sleep mode for about 2-3 hours, then the computer shuts itself off, or goes into hibernation mode on it's own. The computer has Windows 7 Premiuim.
I have the power saving modes all set too SLEEP, and none in hibernation in any of the selections. I cannot for the life of me why this computer does this. I have a Lenovo I bought about a year later using Windows 7 Premium with all the same settings in the POWER section, and while in sleep mode, it STAYS in SLEEP mode, no matter the length of time in that mode. Any setting I need to turn off, and where to find it?
I know this might have been mentioned b4 but I really donno how to search in a long Z official thread...
When I turn my Z into sleep, it seems so easy to be back on again if I put it into my cases.
Everything looks fine if I just put it on the desk but it's always back ON when I take it from my suitcase
I have a VAIO VGN-AR41E and want to be able to play PS3 on it. There are a small group of buttons near the screen which one has AV mode written above it. However when i push this nothing happens. There is also one on the keyboard (Fn+F7) but this also does nothing

View 5 Replies View RelatedI finally bought my Z series and trying to clone my HDD to my SSD using Acronis True Image with the SSD being on the outside of the computer using USB.
When it reached 80%, everything shut down as If the computer went into standby mode with the power light intermittenly turning amber. I turned it on again manually but the screen stayed blank. So I have to redo the whole cloning process again. it happened 2x already?
My Thinkpad never really went into sleep mode during cloning.
I snapped the ribbon going to the Stamina / Speed switch. Now, i'm always in stamina mode.
is there any way to switch to the speed mode using software?
thought that hibernate was better because it turns off the computer and saves battery except on my laptop the power button is defaulted to sleep so I would have thought that they would default it to that for a reason.

I recently discovered Sony's 'silent mode' function.. and it seems to cut the fan noise level down. What's the difference between performance mode and silent mode? Do you suppose it's alright for me to keep on silent mode, for my state of sanity (literally)?
From time to time, I run Lightroom CS2, which seems to be my most CPU intensive program... otherwise I usually just have a few internet tabs open, windows media player, and a few chat windows.
After I put my laptop on sleep mode and shut the lid down, I always see the computer turn back on automatically after only a few minutes (I can hear the laptop working and the light turns green, although the monitor remains off).
Why is this so? The laptop also seems to turn off after a while it is turned back on from sleep mode.
I also notice my Z having a particular video error at times. That is, sometime, the laptop monitor turns black for a few seconds, turns back on at the highest brightness setting, and a error message pops up saying something about how it was unable to find a driver.
I have a Vaio Z, model is VGN-Z12GN.
I upgraded from the pre-installed Windows Vista to Windows 7 Professional (new, up-to-date legit copy from MSDNAA, no pre-release version).
When I am in Speed mode, I can not adjust the screen brightness by using Fn+F5 and Fn+F6. I really would like to have this functionality back again .....
ive installed win7-32bit on my vaio sz650. everything works fine while connected to the power supply. but in battery mode my graphic driver keeps resetting sometimes, (and crashing the system).
this failure occurs mostly while watching video files or surfing on interactive websites.

ive tried using the different graphic-modes (speed/stamina) but the failure still occures in both modes. so i guess its not a problem with the drivers.
I just installed windows 7 on my SR190. The fn volume keys work but my brightness keys don't. Also, the vaio mode switch isn't starting up. something about application failure. Is there a specific order for the driver installation?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI can't seem to change the brightness level in Speed Mode, be it through Fn keys or Power Option on the laptop. I've tried disabling UAC and running VESMgr.exe and VESMgrSub.exe as administrators. And still can't alter the brightness level. Everything else works, just the brightness option won't work in Speed Mode. Stamina Mode works flawlessly, giving me the option the change the brightness level how I want.
