Sony :: Vaio Z11MNB: Brightness Adjust Doesn't Work In SPEED Mode
Mar 12, 2010
I've just installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit on my Vaio Z11MNB. As Google told me there is a problem with the FN + F5/F6 brightness adjust in speed mode.
All Sony software ist installed correctly and in the newest version I found.
As in many threads mentioned I followed the right order. But I still cannot adjust the brightness in speed mode
This thread Problem with Vaio Z Windows 7 brightness lead me to the right graphic drivers I thougt... Okay these drivers[url] are for the ZD790 but this shouldn't matter it's the same 9300GS chipset...
The following sony software is installed:
SETTING_UTILITY_SERIES_5.1_5.1.0.11200
SFEP_DRIVER_SONY_8.0_10Q1_O_7_8.0.1.1
SPIC_DRIVER_8.0_09Q3_7_8.0.1.1
SONY_SHARED_LIBRARY_5.5_5.5.0.10160
VAIO_CONTROL_CENTER_4.1_4.1.0.10160
VAIO_EVENT_SERVICE_5.1FH_5.1.0.12010
VAIO_POWER_MANAGEMENT_5.0_5.0.0.11300
VAIO_SMART_NETWORK_3.1_3.1.0.11250
Another smaller problem: From time to time there is a yellow exclamation mark at the SD-Hostcontroller in the device manager. I've googled a lot but there seems to be no other driver than the windows included. VEN_1180&DEV_0822
I upgraded from the pre-installed Windows Vista to Windows 7 Professional (new, up-to-date legit copy from MSDNAA, no pre-release version).
When I am in Speed mode, I can not adjust the screen brightness by using Fn+F5 and Fn+F6. I really would like to have this functionality back again .....
just can't seem to get my Brightness controls to work in speed mode in windows 7.
I've tried 169.09, 180.70 and the most recent forceware drivers.
I've installed the registry file that was recommended in one thread. I've tried all kinds of orders. Still, nothing.
I've currently installed (in this order) SPEF SonyPI Shared Library SonyUtils DLL Event Service The Registry Patch NVIDIA Drivers
They work fine in STAMINA, but not in SPEED. I can't even access them through Windows Mobility Center or Power Options. I can change them a very small amount though the NVIDIA control panel through the "adjust color settings" tab. Otherwise, theres no mobility options in the NVIDIA panel.
I just installed Win7, sticking as much as possible to this method: VAIO FW Clean Windows 7 Install Guide
everything's working, all FN keys, volume multimedia zoom LCD out, all but brightness.
problem is, using the FN keys, the brightness dialog is showing, but I can't increase or decrease it. brightness does not show up on power managment nor on mobilty center. the power plans from vaio ("VAIO optimized") are showing, but still if I pull the plug screen stays on maximum brightness...
It seems for some reason my Z690 does not work well in the speed setting. This results into videos that seem to refresh a lot, games that are slow and have jagged edges and in general slow video performance.
Whats funny is that on stamina setting, all my graphics actually do quite well. Videos play fine as do the games /w smooth edges
I have a VAIO VGN-SZ55GN but I found out that I can't switch between speed/stamina mode.
I had had the intel graphic driver installed automatically after I'd installed a new OS onto the laptop but I can't get the nVidia driver to work.
I tried shutting down the laptop, moved the switch to speed and turned on the laptop again but I still can't get the laptop started up w/ nVidia graphic card.
I have a Sony Vaio VGN-Z590 with windows 7 32 bit professional installed. When I switch to speed mode and hook up a monitor (24" dell LCD) via HDMI->DVI the graphics card temperature goes up to around 80-95C (measured with real temp 3.40) and the CPU temp also goes up into the 60-70s. No programs are using the CPU heavily. During this process the fans go up to max and the computer gets really loud. I have all the latest drivers installed and the latest BIOS.
I was wondering if anyone else has a problem like this? Would installing 64 bit windows 7 be better? It makes it really noisy when I hook up a monitor via HDMI. Any ideas?
Everything is perfect in stamina mode, low temps, low cpu usage.
I open this post to report a brightness problem on Lenovo Z500 Ideapad. Yesterday I've upgraded to OS Windows 8.1 and when I adjusted the screen brightness it goes off, and brightness adjust function doesn't works. I've solved my problem reinstalling the Intel video drivers, downloaded from Lenovo Driver Support.
It seems that Windows 8.1 upgrade disables video drivers.
HP HDX16 with P7350. In CPU-Z I see core speed 1595.8 I'm observing and it changes to 1595.9 and then 1596.0 and then 1596.1 and then shoots up to 1995.0 - I have never seen it reach 2.0 and never go down below 1595. When processor speed changes I can here problems with sound while listening to music.
Another thing is the Bus speed, which is fixed at 266.0mhx, isn't it supposed to be 1066?
I've got little issues with screen brightness on my T510.
Sometimes after returning from hybernate/sleep I cannot control screen brightness at all (chaning it by Fn+Home/End or from PowerManager just dont work).
The company I work for just gave me a new Thinkpad T440P and I have a screen Brightness problem. the shortcuts on the keyboard doesn't work with or without the fn button and the brightness gauge doesn't show up in the power options too.
Someone suggested to that I should download and install the latest Intel HD Graphics Driver for Windows 7 from the support page [URL] ... but after the installation ended a pop up on my screen said that my Laptop doesn't have the minimum requirements for this driver! so who come it's in the drivers section for this model?
I can run in safe mode and in stamina mode all day long, however when I switch to Speed mode after a few secs the screen goes black and the notebook just turns off. Anyone have any ideas? I am at a total loss. I have tried a complete restore and also tried Natius drivers.
I can't seem to change the brightness level in Speed Mode, be it through Fn keys or Power Option on the laptop. I've tried disabling UAC and running VESMgr.exe and VESMgrSub.exe as administrators. And still can't alter the brightness level. Everything else works, just the brightness option won't work in Speed Mode. Stamina Mode works flawlessly, giving me the option the change the brightness level how I want.
my laptop,VGN-Z720D/B, can't switch to speed mode without restarting computer, which means I need to switch mode by turning off or restarting the laptop, I updated the BIOS and graphic drivers and reinstalled the whole OS by using recovery disc, it still doesn't work. Is it possible the hardware problem?
I tried to copy data from one hard drive to another, and a little notice came up saying I would be better using a high speed port. I was cleaning out my closet yesterday, and noticed on my FZ box it says it comes with 3 high speed ports, but only two show in device manager, which are the two on the right side, as the drive I was transferring from was plugged into the one on the left.
I am having problems to reduce the brightness of my screen (i cant use it full brightness)
What happens is that if i press FN + F3 or F4 (sound) it works perfectly, but when I try FN+F5 or F6 I can listen to the sound that i pressed that, I can see the little black window with the bars but it does not reduce.
how to fix it?
again, it is a VAIO VGN SZ340P. Windows XP profissional SP3
I just realized that if i change from speed to stamina on my keyboard, the FN+brightness works properly
For some reason the brightness on my lcd isn't adjustable. It's stuck at full brightness, on battery, on power, doesn't matter. I've had this laptop for about 2 weeks now. When I first got it, the brightness levels were working, but now they are not. OS is Windows 7 Home.
FN - Brightness Down brings up a on screen display showing the brightness level at full and goes down by about 1, though I see no different in the brightness. It doesn't matter how many times I press the button, it never goes down more than 1.
Control Panel -> Display -> Adjust Brightness -> Power Options: The slider at the bottom shows the brightness level at lowest setting. The FN - Brightness adjustment will move this slider up / down on the scale, but there is no change in the screen brightness.
Anyone have any ideas as to why I can not adjust the brightness and how I can get it back to where I can adjust it?
just brought acer aspire 4937G to replace my dead 5584(which the graphics card dead). so reinstall XP from old laptop to new one.
before i install the graphics driver, i'm able to adjust the brightness. but after i install the driver(latest from acer), i totally cannot adjust the brightness. is either very dim, or very bright.
i tried getting latest driver from nvidia, but during setup, only HD audio, dont have any display driver to install.
Another problem on my Lenovo Thinkpad L520: After installing the Lenovo Power Management Driver, I can no longer adjust the LCD brightness by using the FN+DEL/POS1 keys. Immediately after adjusting the brightness, it gets reverted to its old value, set in the Power Management software.
I tried the Windows 7 driver (1.65.05.21) and the WIndows XP/7/8 driver (1.66.0.22), both with the same result.
This is really annoying and I am very frustrated with Lenovo right now, since this is not the only problem I am having with the laptop.
I have a HP Envy dv7 Notebook PC. It recently just downloaded the new HP Assistant and I wanted to adjust the brightness because it was too bright for the dark room I was in. I tried using the F2 and F3 keys to lower the brightness and I tried to adjust it from settings and control panal but the brightness doesn't adjust when I move it up or down. I tried shutting down my computer and restarting it but I still can't adjust the brightness.
Brightness is stable and the keys of btightness up and down are not working or can say that not changes the screen brightness. since so long and due to this the battrey backup is affacted..Having windows 7 ultimate 32 bit..
