I tried to copy data from one hard drive to another, and a little notice came up saying I would be better using a high speed port. I was cleaning out my closet yesterday, and noticed on my FZ box it says it comes with 3 high speed ports, but only two show in device manager, which are the two on the right side, as the drive I was transferring from was plugged into the one on the left.
View 8 RepliesI have a Dell Latitude E6430 laptop running windows 7 64-bit. Â When I try to use it with a docking station, the USB ports on the docking station do not work. Â When I try to use a USB mouse with it, it only works with one of the USB ports. Â When I try using my printer (HP laserjet 1320) through the USB ports, it doesn't work (it did previously with a Dell latitude E6430 running windows 7 64-bit).
I've installed the latest BIOS upgrade, updated the USB and intel chipset drivers. Â How do I get these working?
I have a Sony Vaio VGN-Z590 with windows 7 32 bit professional installed. When I switch to speed mode and hook up a monitor (24" dell LCD) via HDMI->DVI the graphics card temperature goes up to around 80-95C (measured with real temp 3.40) and the CPU temp also goes up into the 60-70s. No programs are using the CPU heavily. During this process the fans go up to max and the computer gets really loud. I have all the latest drivers installed and the latest BIOS.
I was wondering if anyone else has a problem like this? Would installing 64 bit windows 7 be better? It makes it really noisy when I hook up a monitor via HDMI. Any ideas?
Everything is perfect in stamina mode, low temps, low cpu usage.

I am trying to diagnose whether my problem is linked.
Last week i was using it fine and then all of a sudden it just stopped working. When i rebooted the sony vaio screen at the start has green lines and other dotted lined running from top to bottom. It then went into start up repair from which at first i managed to get it to load but now will not load at all.
I have tried reinstalling the OS (W7) which worked for a while but then the same problem came back and now i cannot get it to start at all.
The error reportsays something like

Before all this it did get very hot.

The video drivers from nvidia site are not working, neither do the alternatives from laptopvideos2go.
I've just installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit on my Vaio Z11MNB. As Google told me there is a problem with the FN + F5/F6 brightness adjust in speed mode.
All Sony software ist installed correctly and in the newest version I found.
As in many threads mentioned I followed the right order. But I still cannot adjust the brightness in speed mode

Another smaller problem: From time to time there is a yellow exclamation mark at the SD-Hostcontroller in the device manager. I've googled a lot but there seems to be no other driver than the windows included. VEN_1180&DEV_0822

My problem is that the fan goes on "high" very quickly in my opinon. It will stay like this until i stop surfing or doing stuff. If i stop it will go down until i start work again.
I wanted to check with others what kind of experience you got with the E6400 and the fan noise. I need to use headphones while working, and using the laptop in the sofa while the wife is watching tv is out of the question!
My MacBook has been acting weird lately. Its fan speeds just go up to as high as 5k while I'm surfing the web (Firefox), 3k on average. No embedded flash videos, etc. I've searched the net for solutions and none of them work for me. I tried checking my Activity Monitor, and the app that uses the highest CPU % is Firefox at 12% at most. I happened to see Quicksilver go up to 97% for a second then it disappeared. I tried looking for any hidden Print Jobs but I had none. I have 1 stuck process according to Terminal, but that's basically it. I have a 2.4ghz white MacBook, 10.5.6.
View 10 Replies View Relatedmy laptop has displayed this problem. Both on two Acer TravelMate 6413 and the current 6463, I've found that the fan speed varies with system activity. Elsewhere on these forums I've seen advice about altering the CPU speed and GPU speed to keep the fan speed down, but my problem seems to only be about coming out of standby.
Normally, the fan speed varies with the load on the machine. If I put the laptop into standby and bring it back out soon after, the fans quickly race up to speed and then vary with the load on the machine, expelling hot air.
If I leave the laptop in standby for up to an hour, then resume from standby, the fans come on at high speed, blowing cool air. This continues until I put the laptop under heavy load - then the fan speed comes down and starts to vary as expected once more.
Acer say it's a known microsoft issue, but I can find no evidence of it. I think it's probably an unresovled BIOS fault.

Â The notebook is always on a hard and flat surface, with plenty of space around it for ventilation. I periodically clear the fan vents with compressed air as preventative maintenance.

Over the past few weeks I have found that, for no apparent reason, the fan has got increasingly loader and I would experience intermittent 'black screens' at start-up.  It has now got to the stage where the fan is constantly working at a high speed, and is extremely hot to the touch.  This includes at initial start up, even after long periods of shutdown, and with no other software other than the OS running.I have always run HP Support Assistant via Windows, and there does not seem to be any issues shown by this software.  I have also tried to run the HP System Health Scan, but all I get is a constant progress bar.  I have tried this in Google Chrome and Internet Explorer.I have checked, and I have the latest BIOS update.  I am running the ENERGY STAR power option.
So a few weeks back, one of the two usb ports on my DELL XPS L502X fell backwards inside the socket, making it unreachable. That wasn't a big issue since I still had one perfectly fine usb port. This morning, when i tried using my wireless mouse (that had its receiver inside the 1 working port), it din't work. I replaced the cells but it still did not work. I put in another usb stick and the computer wouldn't recognize it. It acted as if there was nothing there at all.
When I check my USB port statuses from the device manager, it shows that both the hubs are working. I cannot understand what is going on. The port doesn't have any visible damage, and it looks perfectly normal but doesn't work.Â
Dell XPS L501X USB Ports not working properly. My USB 2 port work intermittently and my USB 3 port doesn't seem to work at all.
In November I installed Windows 8 Pro 64 bit on a new Crucial CRM4256SSD 256GB m4 Solid State Drive. Everything seems to be working except the USB Ports. I know my laptop is an unsupported Windows 8 system. What USB drivers I need to install to get them working correctly.
I have Dell Vostro V131 that I recently formatted. Now I have Windows 7 enterprise version. However, two of three USB ports did not work. I downloaded all the possible drivers that were available at Dell website. In the Device manager drivers for USB controller and one 'unidentified device' are missing that anyhow are not corrected.
Also, though the drivers for biometric devices are shown to be properly installed, but the device does not work.
Furthermore, external display through VGA port could not be connected, though HDMI port is working fine.Â
All the drivers install fine, but usb 3.0 is not installed correctly. USB 3.0 ports do not work.where to find the driver?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI just got my new M6800 laptop- put it in the docking station and everything seems to work except for the USB's on the docking station.
I have had to plug my peripherals into my laptop.  This is by design for the docking station. Why do I have a docking station?  So that I can have an external keyboard and other peripherals permanently connected when I am in my office.
Went in device manager and searched for USB driver updates and mine are apparently up to date.
No trying a dell support chat window- let's see how long this takes....
I have a T540p laptop with Windows 7 installed on it, and when I insert it in the docking Station (Ultra Dock 90w) the USB ports don't work.Â
I tried with another laptop setup with Windows 8.1 and everything works fine. I also tried with another docking stsation, I have the same issue. I suspect something wrong with Windows 7.Â
All drivers are properly installed as the computer is new. I also performed the docking Firmware update from this page [URL] ... but this didn't work.Â
HP HDX16 with P7350. In CPU-Z I see core speed 1595.8 I'm observing and it changes to 1595.9 and then 1596.0 and then 1596.1 and then shoots up to 1995.0 - I have never seen it reach 2.0 and never go down below 1595. When processor speed changes I can here problems with sound while listening to music.
Another thing is the Bus speed, which is fixed at 266.0mhx, isn't it supposed to be 1066?

I have a VGN-FW550F and i did a clean install and installed W7 Ultimate. First I had no problems, but after a while all my usb ports went crazy. It is keeps telling that the USB device cannot be recognized, even when I unplug all the USB devices.
I've had this problem before. I couldn't take it anymore so i restored it back to the pre-installed W7HP.
A few days ago i've had to format my hard disk 'cause i've had some problems. I forgot why i delete Windows 7 Ultimate so I've installed the Ultimate version again and now I remember why I deleted Ultimate.

i have a sony VGN-FW463J/B and it turns out that none of my usb ports are working. i tried to like uninstall the usb controller (not sure if i did it right) and it didnt fix the problem at all

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently noticed a high pitched noise coming from what seems like my screen. I have a VGN-FW w/ a T9600, an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 graphics with 1GB dedicated video RAM, the extra-wide HD display, and a blue ray burner. I noticed this noise while I was converting a few movies (wich I noticed was taking up 100% of my CPU) and now it seems to be ever present. The only way to get rid of the high-pitch noise is to either turn the brightness on the screen all the way down or continually move the screen-pushing it up and down and such. Whenever I stop moving the screen, the high pitched noise comes back.

Sony Vaio Intel® Core™ 2 Duo P7450 (2.13GHz)with Intel® Centrino® processor with Blu-ray Disc(which seems to be a Pioneer BD?), 4GB RAM.
Lame version seems to be 3.98
Ive had a vaio Z 2.53Ghz for a few months working very well. Lately Ive been noticing that the system feels really slow. I just ran a CPUZ and got the readings that the CPU is operating at 1/2 speed (around 1.26Ghz). I ran a few benchmarks (SySoft Sandra/Everest) and was confirmed again that the system is running at 1/2 speed. I remember that runnig on batteries usually the CPU slows (lower CPU multiplier) down to conserve batteries but mine is plugged-in and it does not make any difference. I opened it up and took out the CMOS battery for a few seconds to re-set the BIOS to see if that would fix it. Same problem.
Also I noticed that my power settings Tab incontrol panel are all grayed out so I cannot change or access them... this is all so weird... I know that setting power settings in XP's to the maximum performance profile, turn off Intel SpeedStep which is what I suppose is forcing my system to permanently using a lower multiplier...
