Dell :: E6400 High Fan Speed At Low Temperatures

Nov 25, 2009

Recently bought a E6400 with T9600 and intel GPU. See signature for more details. I'm running windows 7 x64.

My problem is that the fan goes on "high" very quickly in my opinon. It will stay like this until i stop surfing or doing stuff. If i stop it will go down until i start work again.

I wanted to check with others what kind of experience you got with the E6400 and the fan noise. I need to use headphones while working, and using the laptop in the sofa while the wife is watching tv is out of the question!

HP/Compaq :: High Idle/under Load Temperatures

Mar 5, 2009

i purchased one compaq cq45-137tx in december. I guess it' similar to the dv4t models marketed in other countries.

model details

there are couple of temperature issues with this lappy ( ambient temp 25-30C):

1. at idle ( just media player or maybe a pdf file open), the cpu temp is at 43C, northbridge always above 50, gpu always above 55.hd also tends to operate at 45-48C. this is inspite of the fact that i am running this thing with no vents blocked ..and in fact the RAM, cmos battery and hd covers removed to allow better air circulation.

2. at normal load ( game like burnout paradise, with utor going on in background), cpu tends to reach 60 C, gpu at 80 C , northbridge at 70C and hd at 60 C.

3. cpu temp never seem to change really. tried using various s/w' like realtemp ( shows 28 C for gpu..which i dont think is feasible). only when i reboot after a high load session, the s/w' show higher temperatures ( and the notebook shows erratic behavior with display artifacts!).

4. the only fan in the machine never appears to speed up or down. i don't have an issue with the noise, as long as it helps this thing run cooler.......

HP/Compaq :: HP Dv5t Temperatures Are Abnormally High, Over 100C

Jun 27, 2009

My HP dv5t is about 10 months old, with a P8600 and Geforce 9600 GT. After just an hour of playing Company of Heroes, my max temperatures for the CPU is 95C and GPU is 110C. I didn't lift the back since I can't right now, but even when I do have it lifted, I think only the GPU goes down to about 99C or so while the CPU is still around 95C max. The CPU idles at 58-60C and GPU about 68-70C.

Anyway, I tried blowing some compressed air in it and it looks good a few weeks ago, but I'm still getting these temperatures. I'm really concerned since I haven't found any posts where others have this degree of overheating, maybe it's just me? I'm not playing on my lap or bed so it's not that. I don't really experience any glitches or crashes yet, but it seems like others have problems at temperatures that aren't as high, so it's probably only a matter of time. I run stock drivers and bios and haven't done anything drastic to it. When I first got this, the temps maxed out at around 80 for CPU and 95 for GPU. But yeah, anyone else having this bad of a problem and what can I do right now?

Here's an image, I wish I had those min temps as idle but those were when the computer just turned on:

Lenovo G505 B / G Series :: High CPU Idle Temperatures

Aug 10, 2014

I bought my G505s in August 2013 and I'm only noticing now that it's been running pretty hot.I've been using several different programs to try to see and compare the temperatures of the quad core CPUs. I've also looked in many different fourm communities and have found this is not at all like the common overheating problems with the G505s. Others have experienced other heating problems when they play games, as their cores go to around 70C to 80C

"How so," you ask?Details and actions I've taken:

1. My temperatures soar to above 80C each when idle, and over 100 when doing light work.
2. BIOS and drivers have all been updated to the latest versions available for Windows 8.1 as per the Lenovo website.
3. I have never played games on the laptop, so I know the overheating is not because something related to that.
4. I cleaned my computer yesterday, although there was hardly any dust build up.

My temperature readings come from speccy, and hwmonitor.

HP/Compaq :: HP Pavilion Dv6-1240ep - Reaches High Temperatures While Gaming

Feb 18, 2010

I aquired this Laptop in...October 2009. I'm really happy with it, but I have a question.

It reaches high temperatures while gaming, about 90º-95º and it's keeps around 70º in idle.

I haven't noticed any problem with performance or anything, only the fan kicks really high as soon as I start a game.

Is it normal? I always heard that AMD Cpu's are hotter than Intel.

Apple :: MacBook - Fan Speed Just Go Up To As High As 5k While I'm Surfing The Web

Mar 25, 2009

My MacBook has been acting weird lately. Its fan speeds just go up to as high as 5k while I'm surfing the web (Firefox), 3k on average. No embedded flash videos, etc. I've searched the net for solutions and none of them work for me. I tried checking my Activity Monitor, and the app that uses the highest CPU % is Firefox at 12% at most. I happened to see Quicksilver go up to 97% for a second then it disappeared. I tried looking for any hidden Print Jobs but I had none. I have 1 stuck process according to Terminal, but that's basically it. I have a 2.4ghz white MacBook, 10.5.6.

Acer :: Fan Speed Goes High When Coming Out Of Standby (TravelMate 6463)

Aug 29, 2007

my laptop has displayed this problem. Both on two Acer TravelMate 6413 and the current 6463, I've found that the fan speed varies with system activity. Elsewhere on these forums I've seen advice about altering the CPU speed and GPU speed to keep the fan speed down, but my problem seems to only be about coming out of standby.

Normally, the fan speed varies with the load on the machine. If I put the laptop into standby and bring it back out soon after, the fans quickly race up to speed and then vary with the load on the machine, expelling hot air.

If I leave the laptop in standby for up to an hour, then resume from standby, the fans come on at high speed, blowing cool air. This continues until I put the laptop under heavy load - then the fan speed comes down and starts to vary as expected once more.

Acer say it's a known microsoft issue, but I can find no evidence of it. I think it's probably an unresovled BIOS fault.

Sony :: Vaio Z Speed Mode High Temps And CPU Usage

Mar 10, 2010

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-Z590 with windows 7 32 bit professional installed. When I switch to speed mode and hook up a monitor (24" dell LCD) via HDMI->DVI the graphics card temperature goes up to around 80-95C (measured with real temp 3.40) and the CPU temp also goes up into the 60-70s. No programs are using the CPU heavily. During this process the fans go up to max and the computer gets really loud. I have all the latest drivers installed and the latest BIOS.

I was wondering if anyone else has a problem like this? Would installing 64 bit windows 7 be better? It makes it really noisy when I hook up a monitor via HDMI. Any ideas?

Everything is perfect in stamina mode, low temps, low cpu usage.

HP Envy Dv6-7273ca :: Fan Is Constantly Working At High Speed And Extremely Hot To Touch

Nov 4, 2014

I have a HP ENVY dv6-7273ca with the following system information...I am running Windows 8.1, along with HP CoolSense.  The notebook is always on a hard and flat surface, with plenty of space around it for ventilation. I periodically clear the fan vents with compressed air as preventative maintenance.

Over the past few weeks I have found that, for no apparent reason, the fan has got increasingly loader and I would experience intermittent 'black screens' at start-up.  It has now got to the stage where the fan is constantly working at a high speed, and is extremely hot to the touch.  This includes at initial start up, even after long periods of shutdown, and with no other software other than the OS running.I have always run HP Support Assistant via Windows, and there does not seem to be any issues shown by this software.  I have also tried to run the HP System Health Scan, but all I get is a constant progress bar.  I have tried this in Google Chrome and Internet Explorer.I have checked, and I have the latest BIOS update.  I am running the ENERGY STAR power option.

Dell :: E6400 CPU Speed Issues

I have noticed an interesting issue with my new e6400. Whenever my system is on battery power, my processor speed maxes out at 783 MHz no matter the load on the system.

I am starting to find this pretty annoying. Even when my usage is up to 100% the processor does not speed up to its max of 2.53 GHz causing my laptop to run pretty slow.

I doubt that is the HDD since it is more south. Also it's not the fan, I can distinguish the noise made by the fan.

I should probably record it with my microphone.

Dell :: All Of The Sudden: Low Temperatures + Fan Always On

Oct 21, 2008

I've owned my M1330 for a few months now, and have been very happy with it. But today, all of the sudden, things changed. I understand that a fan speeds up when a laptop gets hot, but this is not the case here.

All of the sudden today, this started happening: The fan is always on (around 3000rpm). However, the temperatures are usually low (CPU:38-50 , GPU:47-49). The laptop doesn't even get hot.

I've already cleaned the dust out of the the fans/vents, just in case.

My bios is the one that came with the laptop: A09

Dell :: M170 Temperatures

Oct 20, 2007

I recently purchased a M170 with 6800 Ultra off ebay and have been using it for the past week or so. During this time, I have noticed that the temps get quite high when running graphic intensive applications. I currently have an e1705 with a 7900GTX installed so I am familiar with the heat dissipated from a high end graphics card but the M170 seems to get very hot in comparison to my e1705. I am not sure what are considered high temps so I will just post my readings from I8kfan (these are the peak temps):

CPU: 95
GPU: 91
Mem: 77
Chipset: 80

Are these readings too high or about normal?

Dell :: Post Your S-XPS 13 Temperatures

Mar 7, 2009

Alright boys 'n girls!

Considering all the debate going on about the ventilation on this system, I figured it would be best to see the sort of temperatures people are getting.

Post your HWmonitor screenies or the temps alone! Also, make sure you post what power mode you're in! Don't forget to mention whether you have the 9500 or the 9400!

Let's see those screenies!

I think after we get some temperature readings, we will be able to conclude just how bad the ventilation issue is.. if at all.

Dell :: Monitor The Temperatures On 7950 GTX

Jan 4, 2008

i'd like to know what kind of temps to expect from a normally working card.

What are your temps on idle (normal room temp 20c-30c)
and what are the max temp it reaches when say we run the ati tool graphical view. (Just for reference - when idle, ATI Tool reports 65c on my card, and after running the 3d view of ati tool the card will reach 104c).

I'd like everyone who has that info to post it here and i'll do the math and calculate the avarage working temp of that card.

Since different monitoring progs report different tempratures please state which program is reporting the temps.

Using I8kfangui my temps are 59 to 82c with out any temp offset
Atitool temps are Identical 59 to 82c
Nvidia Mview is the same 59 to 82c

Now I though there was an 8 degree of set for I8kfangui, but its running the same temps as everything else is this my actual temps or there still an 8 degrees offset making my temps higher?

Dell :: Studio XPS 1640 Temperatures

Jun 22, 2009

Just got my new laptop 1/2 a week ago and installed a clean 7 on it. My idle temperatures are as follows:

Processor (T9800): ~43 degrees
ATI: ~48 degrees
HDD (500 GB 7200 RPM): ~40 degrees
Motherboard: ~44-50 degrees

This is at idle! When I game for a while, all temperatures hover at ~60 degrees. Is this normal?

My old laptop with a T5750 idles at 19 degrees for the processor, does the T9800 produce this much extra heat?

Also, if other 1640 users can post their specs and temperatures it'd be great.

I started playing WoW from this morning and the cpu fan started running on full speed after 2 minutes in the game. Also laptop turned off suddenly twice today maybe because of CPU overheat.

I already tried "SpeedFan" but it has no support for Dell motherboard. What should I do?

I live in India and ambiance temperature is high here, 20-30 C.

Dell :: M1530ACPI Temperatures Mains Vs On Battery

Jun 14, 2009

Here's an odd one I haven't found much info on...

When gaming, I noticed that the difference between my ACPI temps on mains VS on Battery are a bit of a concern...

For the first time last last night, it shut off on me which I guessed was the lovely overheating. Anyways I know my CPU and GPU temps are great and run very cool so it wasn't to do with GPU temps etc

The only difference when the machine shut off was I was gaming on Battery - So I ran some tests and found that there is a major difference between the ACPI temps when gaming on batt than when on mains.

Temps when gaming:

On Mains of ACPI (THM) = 71c max
On Battery of ACPI (9 cell batt) = 100c +!

For info on other temps on load:
CPU max = 60c
GPU max = 72c

It's nothing to do with positioning of laptop etc as I ran the test in the same position. I'm running windows XP Pro too.

So, what causes such a massive diff in temps of the ACPI chipset comparing mains to on battery ? This is like an instant change when you pull out the mains (under load), so I've narrowed it down to batt vs mains!
