View 1 RepliesSo does anyone know of one that actually works? I have tried i8kfangui, but it no longer works with Windows Vista 64 bit, due to the unsigned drivers issue.
I disabled the signed drivers thing by booting while pressing F8.. and it installed perfectly and worked until I restarted Windows normally..
Then it said fanio driver not found or something, and refused to work unless I boot by pressing F8..
So anyone have a solution? Speedfan doesn't seem to work either.. I want to set the fans not to kick in so load until a certain temp .....
Recently bought a E6400 with T9600 and intel GPU. See signature for more details. I'm running windows 7 x64.
My problem is that the fan goes on "high" very quickly in my opinon. It will stay like this until i stop surfing or doing stuff. If i stop it will go down until i start work again.
I wanted to check with others what kind of experience you got with the E6400 and the fan noise. I need to use headphones while working, and using the laptop in the sofa while the wife is watching tv is out of the question!
I recently came across something regarding the right USB port of my M1530 (the port right below the Slot-Loading Optical Drive and next to S-Video).
The two ports on the left were full (one 160GB External HD and a Logitech V450 Mouse Receiver). When I plugged my other 80GB external hard disk to the right USB port, a pop-up box said that I should plug it into a "high-powered USB port" to maximize its performance or something.
Sure enough, when I was transferring big folders of music files, the transfer rate was very slow. So I plugged the external hard disk to one of the ports on the left, and the speed was back to normal
I have a sony vaio Sz691N laptop and got windows 7 64 bits installed. The high definition audio controller is always disabled after restarting. I have to go to device manager to enable it every time. it is annoying me. Has anyone had the same problem before and has a solution?
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy MacBook has been acting weird lately. Its fan speeds just go up to as high as 5k while I'm surfing the web (Firefox), 3k on average. No embedded flash videos, etc. I've searched the net for solutions and none of them work for me. I tried checking my Activity Monitor, and the app that uses the highest CPU % is Firefox at 12% at most. I happened to see Quicksilver go up to 97% for a second then it disappeared. I tried looking for any hidden Print Jobs but I had none. I have 1 stuck process according to Terminal, but that's basically it. I have a 2.4ghz white MacBook, 10.5.6.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI tried to copy data from one hard drive to another, and a little notice came up saying I would be better using a high speed port. I was cleaning out my closet yesterday, and noticed on my FZ box it says it comes with 3 high speed ports, but only two show in device manager, which are the two on the right side, as the drive I was transferring from was plugged into the one on the left.
View 8 Replies View Relatedmy laptop has displayed this problem. Both on two Acer TravelMate 6413 and the current 6463, I've found that the fan speed varies with system activity. Elsewhere on these forums I've seen advice about altering the CPU speed and GPU speed to keep the fan speed down, but my problem seems to only be about coming out of standby.
Normally, the fan speed varies with the load on the machine. If I put the laptop into standby and bring it back out soon after, the fans quickly race up to speed and then vary with the load on the machine, expelling hot air.
If I leave the laptop in standby for up to an hour, then resume from standby, the fans come on at high speed, blowing cool air. This continues until I put the laptop under heavy load - then the fan speed comes down and starts to vary as expected once more.
Acer say it's a known microsoft issue, but I can find no evidence of it. I think it's probably an unresovled BIOS fault.
I have a Sony Vaio VGN-Z590 with windows 7 32 bit professional installed. When I switch to speed mode and hook up a monitor (24" dell LCD) via HDMI->DVI the graphics card temperature goes up to around 80-95C (measured with real temp 3.40) and the CPU temp also goes up into the 60-70s. No programs are using the CPU heavily. During this process the fans go up to max and the computer gets really loud. I have all the latest drivers installed and the latest BIOS.
I was wondering if anyone else has a problem like this? Would installing 64 bit windows 7 be better? It makes it really noisy when I hook up a monitor via HDMI. Any ideas?
Everything is perfect in stamina mode, low temps, low cpu usage.
I have a HP ENVY dv6-7273ca with the following system information...I am running Windows 8.1, along with HP CoolSense. The notebook is always on a hard and flat surface, with plenty of space around it for ventilation. I periodically clear the fan vents with compressed air as preventative maintenance.
Over the past few weeks I have found that, for no apparent reason, the fan has got increasingly loader and I would experience intermittent 'black screens' at start-up. It has now got to the stage where the fan is constantly working at a high speed, and is extremely hot to the touch. This includes at initial start up, even after long periods of shutdown, and with no other software other than the OS running.I have always run HP Support Assistant via Windows, and there does not seem to be any issues shown by this software. I have also tried to run the HP System Health Scan, but all I get is a constant progress bar. I have tried this in Google Chrome and Internet Explorer.I have checked, and I have the latest BIOS update. I am running the ENERGY STAR power option.
Does anyone know what the speed is of the iLink port on the new Sony Vaio Z Series Core I7?
I'm trying to decide whether to get the Vaio Z with 3 usb ports or 2 usb ports and 1 iLink port. If the iLink port is a lot faster then the usb ports i'll probably get it with an ilink port. If it's a slow ilink port (400 mbps) then i'll probably get the laptop with 3 usb ports.
It would be nice if it comes with a fast ilink port (800mbps) so i can get a faster connection if i connect the laptop to an external hard drive.
I have an Inspiron 5100 That when turned on turns off after about 5 seconds. Once in a while I can get it to turn on but it blues Screens (memory Dump) after the Windows Splash screen about 80% of the time and the other 20% it runs fine. I saw this post Inspiron 5100 won't stay on for more than 10 minutes. and thought I would try Cleaning it out, The Fan turns on so its not that. I also Put new thermal Grease on the Cpu since the old stuff was dried and flaking off. This, I am sad to say, had no effect what so ever. So I Thought I would Ask the Laptop Guru's here to see if my assumption may be right. Do you think that the Proccessor is bad and needs replacing?
View 10 Replies View Relatedconsider me lucky I guess) Anyways, I was on it when it suddenly shut down unexpectedly. Straight up black screen, no lights on in the front, nothing. The power cord box light even went off.
After unplugging the cord and moving to another plug the green light came back on for the power supply box.
The laptop does not function whatsoever. No charging light and so on. I revoved the battery and re-inserted it .....
so my old ac adapter was starting to break..the end that plugs into the laptop was falling off..then it stopped charging the laptop...i have been using another laptop for awhile and decided to buy a new ac adapter for my 5100...well i got my adapter today and plugged it in..the 5100 powered on and i turned away for a second and looked back and the screen had a bunch of words and the only thing i caught at the bottom it said press f2 then it shut off...so i tried to power it back on and it went to the dell intro screen where u can press f2 and then it shuts off...everything turns on the fan and the screen comes up but as soon as it gets to the dell screen it turns off..
When i tried powering on again the lights flashed and nothing turned on..i unplugged the adapter and plugged it back in and the lights flashed as i did that...i pushed power and it started up again only to turn off at the dell screen..as the adapter is plugged in the battery light doesnt stay on at all..just flashes when u plug in the adapter...the light stays on when u turn on the computer but everything just dies within a few seconds..i tried pressing f2 before the computer shut off but it still just turns off
I've been using my inspiron 5100 to play videos on my LCD TV for a couple of months now. Today I went to use it "stand alone" and I have no video on the laptop's LCD. Here's what I've done so far.
No I did not leave it in external video mode (in fact when I "CTRL F8" I can scroll through all 3 modes).
The following 3 scenarios are the same with or without the external VGA connected) (with the exception of the TV display of cou
I know about the DC Jack problem the 5150 has and I don't think this has that it works great with the AC adapter plugged in.
I have already tryed another battery and same results. I ordered a new AC adapter and I am (albeit impatiently) waiting for the arrival. So in the meanwhile I thought I'd ask here if anyone has any ideas (And if the AC adapter doesn't work)????
I have already done a search and the only relevant item I found was something about the LVC14A chip issue and was wondering if it could be that?
I have a ProBook 4535s. I just did a fresh Windows 7 install but I can’t get the USB controller and SM Bus controller drivers to work. I downloaded and installed them from the HP website, but they are still showing yellow in Device Manager.

I tried everything and still need drivers for DV7-6C63NR:
SM Bus Controller
Network Controller
also I cannot get my WiFi adapter to turn on with the button on keyboard - I suspect that it must be my network controller but I cannot locate the driver for it.
After downgrading my hp 15-g073nr notebook PC from the preinstalled Windows 8.1 to Windows 7 64 bit I have the common driver problems others are having and I managed to resolve all but a couple.
I am still missing the following drivers: PCI Encryption/Decryption Controller and the SM Bus Controller.
I had to format the wife's old Dell Inspiron 5100 and reinstall XP. I did not have the install CD that has all the drivers so I went to the dell website and downloaded all that I needed.
I got everything installed but the hardware manager says I have an "ethernet controller" that does not have a driver. It has a Broadcom network card in it and it says the driver is loaded properly and that the device is functioning correctly .....
I just changed mine Windows 7 64 bit os to windows 7 32 bit os. After setup all of the driver were installed beside Network Controller which i think the wireless lan is. My laptop is N4110 inspiron.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy wireless is not working yet. I'm assuming its because Network Controller is not installed yet. How to install the Network Contoller driver for Inspiron 1525?
1) new hard drive installed
2) installed OS from Factory CD
3) I have followed the proper sequence for driver installation
4) I tried drivers using my Service Tag and not using service tag (it installed Ethernet but not the Network Controller)
5) i don't see any manufacturer info or model information in the sysinfo or Control Panel properties
Only way to possibly identify the wireless card is from the card itself and that isn't mush work either:

I just upgraded to 4gb RAM on my 1521 from 2gb. After I installed it I checkethe <Properties> on XP to see if all the RAM was showing up, 3.37gb showed up. But I noticed the processor speed was down to only 795mhz, so I checked it with CPU-Z again and that read 795mhz as well.
I went into BIOS and turned off the AMD PowerNow option and it bumped it back to 1.9ghz. I ran CPU-Z again and it was at like 1.895.2ghz, but i noticed the bus speed was down to 199.5 mhz. Shouldn't that be like 333 or something? I've attached some screenshots from CPU-Z after turning off AMD PowerNow, with PowerNow all cpu specs are much lower.

View 4 Replies View RelatedRecently got a hand me down laptop. My brother did a reinstall of Windows 7 and formatted the hard drive before handing it over.
Its having issues - I'm trying to play FM 2013 but keep getting crashes during games. When I looked in Device Manager there were a load of yellow !. Most I solved by just right clicking and updating the drivers. The 540M graphiics were not showing up a all - so I had to download these from the website myself - but now have the Nvidia centre - which seems to work.
But still the SM bus controller still shows a yellow ! - and the game continues to crash, sometimes it forces a system shutdown.
When I click on the yellow ! and get a hardware ids i get:

I'm running stock 2x 512 mb 533 Mhz ram right now.
I would like to upgrade but I can't find information about my motherboard ANYWHERE. It's not listed on the dell system specs website, either.
So, my question comes down to which would be better:
PC-5300 (667Mhz) ram with 4-4-4-12 timing or PC-6400 ram (800Mhz) with 5-5-5-18 timing?
What is the maximum speed of memory that the e1505 can use? If it's 667 Mhz, I'm of course going to go for the ram with faster timing, but if it's 800 Mhz then I'll go for the speed. I'm using a 2.0 GHz core 2 if it matters, and all I could find it bios is that it's a mm061 "system
I have a 1520, 2Ghz Duo, 2.5 Gb Ram, running XP.....I also have a Line6 Guitarport USB audio interface. When I use this the audio often drops out a lot, especially when acessing the hard drive - what can I do about this? -
it's a 5400RPM drive - will upgrading to a 7200RPM improve things? It seems something is effecting the USB data stream.
The hard drive I have is a WDC WD1200BEVS-75UST 120GB
Also, is the drive running in SATA mode - when using HD tune it says:
Standard: ATA/ATAPI-8 - SATA I
Supported: UDMA Mode 6 / ATA/133
Active: UDMA MODE 5 ATA/100
I've downgraded my Inspiron 1420 recently to XP SP3 with all the device drivers properly installed. Everything seems works fine except that I found fan1 & fan2 always on at max. high speed (very noisy) and CPU always max. at 1.5GHz (seems lost SpeedStep control, checked enabled in BIOS, with SpeedStep control cpu speed should drop to lower rate while the notebook is idle), the fans and cpu speed status are checked via the utility program I8KFANGUI.
If I enabled automatically temperature control in I8KFANGUI then fan1 can turn off as cpu cool down to below 55c and only turn on at Low speed at 60c (still very quiet, noise no noticeable) but still fan2 is always high at 4XX RPM constant rate, I8KFANGUI in fact reported fan2 is not controllable even for just turn on and off .....
i really want to get rid of this stupid annoying speed-step technology. there is an option in bios that will allow me to turn it off, but it will put the processor at 1.2 Ghz, i want it at its fullest at 2.00 Ghz,
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have two apparently identical Inspiron 8500's. Intel Pentium 4-Mrated @ 2.4 Ghz.
One runs at 2.4 Ghz as shown in system properties, CPU-Z and other utilities.
The other runs at only 1.196 Ghz max, shows 1.196 Ghz in BIOS. Bios version A08 apparently the latest offered.
I've tried swapping batteries, power supplies and cooling fans. The fans and grills are clean, and the BIOS proves this isn't an issue of temperature or something that changes after bootup. I've installed speed switch XP, which also shows 1.196Ghz and nothing can be set in that program that changes it either.
I've downloaded the "Speedstep" software update from Dell ... no solutions there. It doesn't step down or up, just runs at max of 1.196 Ghz, which is of course noticeably slower than its twin.
