Dell :: Latitude E6430 / USB Ports Don't All Work And Docking Station USB Ports Do Not Work

Mar 1, 2014

I have a Dell Latitude E6430 laptop running windows 7 64-bit.  When I try to use it with a docking station, the USB ports on the docking station do not work.  When I try to use a USB mouse with it, it only works with one of the USB ports.  When I try using my printer (HP laserjet 1320) through the USB ports, it doesn't work (it did previously with a Dell latitude E6430 running windows 7 64-bit).

I've installed the latest BIOS upgrade, updated the USB and intel chipset drivers.  How do I get these working?

Dell Precision M6800 :: None Of The USB Ports On Docking Station Work

Oct 31, 2014

I just got my new M6800 laptop- put it in the docking station and everything seems to work except for the USB's on the docking station.

I have had to plug my peripherals into my laptop.  This is by design for the docking station. Why do I have a docking station?   So that I can have an external keyboard and other peripherals permanently connected when I am in my office.

Went in device manager and searched for USB driver updates and mine are apparently up to date.

No trying a dell support chat window- let's see how long this takes....

Lenovo T400 / T500 :: T540p - USB Ports In Docking Station Don't Work

Sep 1, 2014

I have a T540p laptop with Windows 7 installed on it, and when I insert it in the docking Station (Ultra Dock 90w) the USB ports don't work.

I tried with another laptop setup with Windows 8.1 and everything works fine. I also tried with another docking stsation, I have the same issue. I suspect something wrong with Windows 7.

All drivers are properly installed as the computer is new. I also performed the docking Firmware update from this page [URL] ... but this didn't work.

Dell Latitude E7240 :: AC Adapter Does Not Work With E-Port Docking Station

May 25, 2014

We are running more than200 dell computers in our company. lately we purchased E7240 for some users but it looks like the AC adapter does not work with the Dell E-Port docking station we have and that cause the USB hubs not to function at all.

Currently the workaround is to plug the AC adapter to the laptop instead of the docking station.

Our BIOS is updated to the latest version. also a message comes up when the ac adapter connected to the docking station before the windows boot up saying the ac adapter won't charge.....

Dell XPS L502X :: USB Ports Do Not Seem To Work

Apr 22, 2013

So a few weeks back, one of the two usb ports on my DELL XPS L502X fell backwards inside the socket, making it unreachable. That wasn't a big issue since I still had one perfectly fine usb port. This morning, when i tried using my wireless mouse (that had its receiver inside the 1 working port), it din't work. I replaced the cells but it still did not work. I put in another usb stick and the computer wouldn't recognize it. It acted as if there was nothing there at all.

When I check my USB port statuses from the device manager, it shows that both the hubs are working. I cannot understand what is going on. The port doesn't have any visible damage, and it looks perfectly normal but doesn't work.

Dell Vostro V131 :: USB Ports Did Not Work

Dec 4, 2014

I have Dell Vostro V131 that I recently formatted. Now I have Windows 7 enterprise version. However, two of three USB ports did not work. I downloaded all the possible drivers that were available at Dell website. In the Device manager drivers for USB controller and one 'unidentified device' are missing that anyhow are not corrected.

Also, though the drivers for biometric devices are shown to be properly installed, but the device does not work.

Furthermore, external display through VGA port could not be connected, though HDMI port is working fine.

Dell Latitude E5520 :: Will Not Start In Docking Station

Aug 10, 2012

We have an unusual problem with a Dell Latitude E5520. It has been built with Windows 7 32bit SP1 and McAfee EndPoint Encryption, as we do with all of our laptops.

When the laptop is powered on and then docked, everything works fine. If you then give the laptop a restart whilst docked, it just doesn't! It shuts down and stays in some kind of power save mode. I have been through all of the Power options, including closing of the lid and turned off everything that could be causing this to happen, but still nothing.

If the power button is pressed whilst docked, the light comes on but that's it, no activity. Undock it, power up, close the lid and dock it again, all of the external screen, keyboard and mouse work as you would expect. I believe all of the drivers are up to date (it is a new laptop).

The docking station is an E-Port Plus DP/N: FFCV6 A00

Dell Latitude E7240 :: Not Working With PR03X Docking Station

Oct 8, 2014

My Latitude e7240 when docked onto the PR03X docking station, the power adapter that is plugged into the PR03X completely goes dead.  The only way I can reset the power is by unplugging and replugging the AC adapter FROM THE WALL.  Tried the spacer.   Tried double powering (1 adapter into the PR03X and another adapter into the e7240).  Also tried plugging the laptop on first without power, and when powering up the laptop, it would boot up 10x slower than normal and sometimes hang.  Also tried multiple other PR03X just to be sure the one i have is not faulty.  The same problem is repeatable.  The laptop has the latest BIOS.

It seems there is a power mismatch of some sort that would cause a) the adapter to fail, and then b) for the laptop to run extremely slow because of what?Is the problem caused by a faulty docking port on the e7240? I assume the PR03X is compatible to the e7240??

Dell Latitude E6820 :: Docking Station Not Recognizing 2nd Monitor

Feb 24, 2013

I have a Dell Latitude E6820 and have just connected a new Dell E-Port Plus II Docking station.  Plugged in to the docking station are two monitors, one plugged into DVI Connector 1 and the other plugged into DVI Connector 2.  The laptop is running Windows 7 64 bit.

Try as I might, I can not get the system to recognise the second monitor.  I have tried the following to get this to work.

- Enabled Optimus (I think that is what it was called in the BIOS) - When I enabled this, neither of the monitors would work via the docking station

- Disabled Optimus - One monitor works

- Attempted to detect the other monitor via Control Panel > Display > Adjust Resolution (monitor not detected)

- Swapped monitors and cables in case it was a cable or monitor issue.  All Cables and Monitors have been verified as working as expected.

- Attempted to connect one monitor via VGA cable.  Only one monitor was detected

Dell Latitude E6400 :: Laptop Reboots When Inserted In Docking Station?

Apr 12, 2011

My Dell Latitude E6400 laptop reboots when inserted in the docking station. I can run all day and say I hot dock it out of  the docking station and go away for half an hour. While away I use the laptop. When I return I snap the laptop back onto the station and.... it reboots! It started about a week ago. Always worked before. The peripherals are two displays, ext kybd, mouse. No USB stuff. Ethernet connected in the dock. This setup is unchanged for months now. Docking contacts clean. Under laptop too.

BIOS is most recent (did a few months ago). I reset defaults in the BIOS today after looking for any setting that may change this issue, but no improvement. Device Manager has nothing relevant either. What's wrong? The hard reboot is really bad as I lose all my in progress work and get all these Auto Recover files to manage... and logins... and restart apps... I'm not interested in putting the computer to sleep between transitions, as it has always been working flawless up to last week.

Dell Latitude E6420 :: E-port Docking Station / CPU Usage Will Shoot Up To 100%

Dec 16, 2014

when I dock my in my E-port docking station, my CPU usage will shoot up to 100%, and it may come down periodically to the 80s or 90s, which makes my laptop virtually unusable for anything. I tried a different power cord but it made no difference. Undocked, it works just fine, so it's obvious it's something wrong with the docking station.

Dell Latitude E5440 :: Intermittent Power Connection To Docking Station

Dec 16, 2014

I was given a Dell Latitude E5440 and a docking station for my work.  I brought in a wireless mouse and keyboard that I use for input (the reason for mentioning this will become evident later).  The computer and dock were NIB and are ~ 2 months old.  I have a Dell external monitor plugged into the dock via a DVI cable, and use it as a secondary monitor.

One thing I noticed early on with this setup is that the interconnection between the computer and dock is 'flimsy', at best.  If I move the computer/dock on my desk by sliding it around, I lose connection and the external monitor image disappears.

My current issue is related but a bit different, I think.  On 3 separate occasions in the past couple of weeks, the notebook screen has gone black without warning and the system has shut down.  Once I was able to get the system back on, I was able to determine that the cause was that the battery had drained to 5%, and the system had shut down.

What I find odd is that this has happened while the unit is on the dock.  What is even more odd to me is that, apparently, while the notebook has lost power connection to the dock, the video connection to the external monitor remained in tact.   That is, in fact, the main reason I did not notice that the battery was draining.  That, and the fact that I was never shown a warning that the battery was getting low and I should find an outlet.  So, only the power connection pin or pins of the dock appear to be affected.  This happened last night when I left for home.  I had not touched the computer all day, since I have the wireless keyboard/mouse I mentioned above, but I did shut the lid to put the system into sleep mode.  However, during the night, it apparently shut off because, the next morning, when I went to turn it on, I was greeted with a black screen stating the system had shut down unexpectedly and did I want to boot into Safe Mode.  Upon booting, both PowerPoint and Word prompted me to 'recovery' my files that had been opened when the power was lost.

Questions: Why I would not receive a warning from the PC that the battery was getting low, so that I could either check the power connection or have time to gracefully shut down.  That is much more preferable than the system behaving the same way it would if I had simply removed the battery when it was on.

Dell Latitude E7240 :: USB Ports Disabled While Docked?

Nov 3, 2014

I have just gotten an E7240 computer and have noticed that the USB ports on the back of my computer are disabled when the computer is docked which is a very unfortunate feature of this new computer model. It seems there are many people posting complaints about this feature on the internet. It basically takes a computer that has 3 USB ports and makes two of them rather useless. It is very useful if a USB receiver for keyboard and mouse can be plugged in to the back of the computer so that the mouse can be used easily when docked, but also when the computer is taken off the dock to go to a meeting room. This then leaves the side USB port available for devices such as wireless projectors when in the meeting room. Although this computer was designed to behave this way, I think that most users would agree that this is a critical issue that needs to be seriously considered and fixed by Dell as soon as possible assuming that there is not already a work around available.
